Less than twenty-four hours after an EMP blast shuts down the east coast, good natured psychologist Naomi Baxter and her family escape the fallen city of Philadelphia. They head toward Virginia to connect with Naomi’s estranged brother—an ex-Navy Seal/doomsday prepper. However, countless dangers, bandits and unrelenting winter weather turn the three hundred mile trek into a deadly endeavor. Working along side the illusive Ryan family—near strangers she rescued from Philly, Naomi must overcome countless obstacles while choosing between the needs of her family and the collective group.
After a long very dangerous journey they reach the remote cabin of Naomi Baxter's brother.
Naomi, her husband Calvin, daughter Trinity and the entire Ryan family consisting of the elderly disabled father-3 brothers, his sons-1 sister-in-law and 16-year-old Becca the ex-Navy Seal is less than welcoming until Naomi convinces him to let them all into his fortified compound and two-story home.
The blended group soon learn that their salvation comes with a price but as time goes on everyone falls into a working rhythm with each other.
Then illness befalls the group at which time brother Allen, his relatives the Baxter family and the Ryan family find themselves at odds as well as in dire need of medicines unavailable to them.
The worst however is looming in the near future and as that time approaches this story becomes wrought with tension which of course ends in a cliffhanger to be picked up in the next book and the last of the particular series featuring these characters.
The mispelled words, improper use of verbs and pronouns, sentences that were put together with the wrong words, i just couldn't. One or two mistakes would be annoying but in this book, over the top. May have been a good book, but it wasn't worth struggling through all the mistakes to find out. Get a proofreader or friend who is acquainted with grammar and try again.
My rating of three stars is being generous. There is entirely too many mistakes in sentence structure and action sequence. The characters need to get with the program and get tough. The character of Naomi is such a pansy that she needs to be left outside the compound for anyone that wants to take her and make her realize that the world has changed. I don't know who edited this book but they should not be allowed to edit anything more important than the liner on the bottom o a bird cage.
As one might expect, a family running for their lives has many lessons in life. This family is no exception. Being a caring and kind people doesn't bode well for them! Will they become another statistic is hard to say. When the second book comes out we may just find a terrible end for all.
Badly needs a proofreader/editor. Engaging characters, gripping situations described by a writer who has no understanding of grammar, syntax, proper use of verb tenses, or use of common words and phrases. Book offers a prequel via useless links that do not deliver on the promise and starts the reader off with negative feelings.
Enjoyed the book. Naomi drove me insane. Spoiler alert. She is a bleeding heart liberal who knows how to use weapons. Her Dudley Do Right mentality drove e me insane. Loved Allen. Conner May surprise us. Looking forward to reading Book 2.
Good read. Tells the story of what happens, when society falls into chaos.
Good character building throughout the tale. You are kept immersed in the story and pulling for the families to resolve differences and prevail over long odds.
Excellent story. Had me hanging and second guessing what I thought would happened. And then it ended in a cliff hanger. grrrrrrr now I have to wait to read the next installment!
J.S.Donovan knows how put together suspense and horror in the pages of a book! As a family brings friends to a family home to survive the apocalypse they fight for survival and fight with each other. The only problem with is story was the typing.
This story really has me hooked. Our group made it out of the city to a safe house in the country. But is it really safe? I can't wait to buy the next book in this series.
Not what I was expecting but I enjoyed reading the book. Aftermath is very entertaining and there were some unexpected developments that occur in the story!
