Indie-Award Winning Author Amber Lacie is about all things books, glitter, and shenanigans. Never without a book or caffeinated goodness, she's managed a husband that worships at her alter and two awesome kiddos, all while pumping out tales of love and suspense. Growing up in Chicagoland, she's seen the nitty, and knows the gritty. As for love and home, that landed her in Beverly Shores, Indiana where she dreams up adventures for her characters so that you the reader can explore new bends in the road. Buckle up.
Every time I open an Amber Lacie book, I just love her more. This was a really good book, with great characters. I just loved Theron and Eve and the way they found their way to each other. I also really liked their family and friends, and the suspense had me guessing throughout the entire book. This was a great book. If you're not reading anything by Amber Lacie, you are truly missing out.
I read this book in one sitting, lying awake to finish it as I was so invested in the story.
Eve and Theron are a perfect match, both in and out of the bedroom/shower/wherever they end up. What they go through in the course of this book is beyond my imagination as I have never found myself in the same kind of situations. The ending in particular had me desperate for more.
The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger as this is part of a series.
I tend to skip sex scenes with reading as I’ve become a bit jaded towards those due to the number of books I read, but the author appears to have a good idea of what makes a good sex scene. I noticed more than a few minor grammar issues throughout. They didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the story however.
Gutted omg I’m so beyond words right now! Beautiful, heartbreaking, just so many emotions running through me right now! Lacie does an amazing job at creating characters that teach you at different levels! I cannot wait to dive into book 2!
I finished this book in two days and continued straight onto the next instalment, “Light”. This story is not what I expected at all, but an amazing surprise. I’ve been completely enthralled with Theron and Eve. By God can Amber Lacie write a sex scene! Holy hotness! 5*****
“Looking into his eyes in the mirror, I mouth the words I love you. He holds his palm out for me and I gladly take it as we walk out of the room.”
5 captivating and emotional stars!!! Wow this book really grabs you by the seat of your pants!!! It was such an emotional book, but I loved it!!
Eve was content getting lost in her books, while living with her best friends. She’s a beautiful girl surrounded by her friends and family. In her twenty six years of life, nothing exciting has ever happened to her. Everything is going perfectly for her. Little does she know, one summer at the beach could change her life forever. . .
Theron is the son of a cutthroat multi-billionaire business tycoon. He thought he left behind the world his father created, but things change. Now, he’s devoted himself to his eccentric grandma. His only hope at overcoming his past, is finding the one person he lost so very long ago. . .
When Eve bumps into Theron, their worlds collide. Nothing can prepare them for the instant fireworks and roller coaster ride waiting for them. But. . . One has a secret. Can their love overcome tragedy, lies, and secrets

Eve, Kayla, and Matt are all best friends and live together. Then one night out Matt is killed in front of Eve. Let me back up. Just before their night out Eve meets this handsome stranger in the laundromat and feels sparks when they touch. Now on the night Matt gets killed that same handsome stranger is there again except he is comforting and taking care of her. This is the beginning of a whirlwind romance for these two and it can end just as fast.
I had a hard time liking Eve. She was constantly in her head. I really wished I could have Theron's voice sometime during this story. I really wanted to know more about him and how he found his "beautiful". There is no HEA in this story. So it leaves you with a mild cliffhanger.
Amber Lacie is a one-click author. The second her fingers hit her keyboard magic happens. This is the second book i have read by her and i absolutely love it! Shadows is book one in a two part series. Normally i stay clear of books that are in parts like this, however this is a must read. It had me hooked from the first page and i could not put it down. The emotions, it had me crying like a baby more than once, giggling, swooning, fanning myself and so so angry! And then there are the twists that you dont see coming. The characters are well written and lovable, and an awesome storyline that keeps you gripped. Would recommend, without a doubt. Now i'm going to dive in to book two...
I revived this book for an honest review. The story grabs you straight from the go and draws you in. Before you know it you have hit the cliffhanger and the book stops. I love Theron and Eve. I can't wait to read book 2.
I thought it was self published, it was so bad, and I wanted to give that author the benefit of the doubt but it took me a YEAR of trying to slog through it to actually finish it. The cover feels great, it's actually textured.
Half a star for the crappy sex scenes and broken weakass female lead. Actually Half a star for the rockstar Grandma Isa amazing whitty dialogue.
I don't mind "damaged" main character, but I've read much, much better ones who actually get out of bed to save the world, be a better friend, sibling, not be a ... What was the quote in this book?
"Oh, quit being such a whiny bitch already. We've all lost someone dear to us, Eve. I didn't hunt you down to watch you wallow in self pity," says her best friend on my page 268.
But this was a new level of fubar meets fubar. It was a train wreck. Here's a brief few...
I get the seeing your friend needlessly killed in front of you after he professed his love for you after everyone was drinking. Enter fubar, the amazing guy who took her to the hospital was stalking her for 6 months. I could see why she'd freak out about that. Fast forward to punching his Dad in the face. Whaaaa? Broken hand, even weaker female. Not that I wouldn't brake mine, but the hits keep coming for this girl - ah, sorry for the unintended but funny pun. She's idiot enough to not get all the odd blatantly obvious digs that the author hits the reader over the head with. Here stupid reader this is important! Weird new boss asking about boyfriend related stuff she shouldn't know anything about in a work setting. Back up, this dude is like, never leave me! Ugh, clingy and obsessed. We find out through tons of idiot reader dream sequences that just can't be real - eye roll - (spoiler, it is), she connects the dots, then bam, best friend speaks through the grave in a letter in his 12 yr old mind in a scrapbook: I'm so jealous of this kid, glad he's leaving so I get you to myself... I paraphrase here, but I understand this kids jealousy. But, instead of recognizing it for what it was, aw, how did I miss the signals from my best guy friend? It's used to prove she was always down to sparky- electric zing -sex guy. Can I roll my eyes again? I'm worried they will be for-ev-er rolling around.
This author should just write funny snarky old lady's since the young one is an idiot who can't keep a thought in her brain but sex to not think about anything. But I guess it's a good way to put a bunch of sex in. There is a warning in the front of the book about the sex scenes, so I was on the look out for some serious shit. Hm, maybe the last one bordered on rape? The rest was him leading and her being like, okay. Can't argue with both partners enjoying and then him cooking. I've clearly read more serious "sex scenes" that this book would be ho-hum. Meh?
Why reviewers keep saying "sex and heartstrings"is beyond me. I was totally shocked when a full sentence popped up, it had to have come from an editor because the rest is choppy stream of consciousness, which is ok as a writing style as long as it is consistent. Maybe because best friend and then Grandma died? It was a shocking twist. And cliffhanger!
Half the book was a cliffhanger for the second book in the series. It should have been 2 books, 100 pages each. And would have made more sense.
She was doing better staying at brother's house, even got a new job with her first love, books. Moving on from boytoy's odd family dynamics. Yeah I get cliffhanger draw in.
I do want to know more about hot Evan the chauffeur... bodyguard?? Is that a cliff hanger to be explained in book 2? I thought she just wanted a hotty to drive her around, dirty old lady (running joke with hot gardner).
Not enough to pay me to read it... Don't be silly if you paid me, I'd read Book 2. Otherwise I'm glad I got this for free or super cheap in a resale bin.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This first installment has left me feeling so many different emotions. I've fallen head over heels in love with these characters. Eve and Theron prove that there really is ‘that one person’ out there and you might get to have fireworks if you're real lucky. They also prove that when it gets that hot, there's always a risk of being burned.
Eve meets Theron during a horrific event in her life and he is her knight in shining armor. The perfect romance. The bedroom scenes have that tummy quivering effect. The secrets and seeming betrayal threw me into a world of suspense and mystery that had my arms goose pimpling and my stomach twisting in knots. I cannot wait to read the next in series as this book left off with a gnarly cliffhanger. See you after book two!
Light: A Love Ever After Series, Book Two by Amber Lacie
This second installment of A Love Ever After Series, Light, is a continuation of Theron and Eve’s story. This contemporary romance started off much the same as the first, with a very traumatic event bringing the two together to fight for love, laughter, life…..light. After falling in love with the characters in the first book, I was pleasantly surprised that coming back to them in the second book felt like coming home. Suspense, mystery and romance guarantee to leave you aching for more. Thank goodness there appears to be a next in series to look forward to!
Matt is one of Eve's best friend. When Matt confesses his love to Eve, she is surprised and dismayed. In an attempt to deflect Matt, Eve leaves the bar. When Matt is attacked by a drunken man, and is killed, Eve is shattered. Devastated by the loss of her friend, consumed by guilt, Eve is completely caught off guard by the arrival of Theron.
Theron has searched for his beautiful girl for years. Now that he's found her, Theron resolves to never let her go. Theron and Eve quickly become inseparable, with Eve moving in with Theron as she can't face going back to the apartment that Eve, Kayla and Matt had shared.
But Evil lurks in the shadows, and its malevolent forces are beginning to be felt. Will Theron and Eve survive the darkness, and come through to the light, or will Evil triumph?
An enthralling read, it captivates from the first sentence. A well written story, with well developed, complex characters, unexpected scenarios, and an ending that will leave you gasping.
Wow. Shadows is just absolutely great. I did not want to put it down. It pulled me in from the first chapter and I was hooked. The heartbreak in the beginning was quickly replaced by intense love between Theron and Eve. Eve lives with her two best friends, Matt & Kayla, and works with Kayla in accounting. Eve's favorites thing to do is read and she's content with her life. Theron is a stranger she meets in the laundromat and there's an instant, strong connection between. Tragedy brings them together and things quickly progress in their relationship. Theron comes with an jerk father who wants to ruin him and somehow Eve is a part of it. She's doesn't understand how or why, but things start to click. Their relationship takes a turn for the worse and so does Theron. I was crying and angry during the last chapter and so desperately need to find out how it all ends up for Theron & Eve. I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend this book!
This is a great story. It has tragedy, suspense, excitement, love, hate, jealousy. I can't think of anything that could be missing, and I couldn't help but feel what these characters were feeling. Theron is practically perfect. He totally has to be the hero in a book because men like him truly don't exist in the real world. We barely got to know Matt, but what we do know about him makes me love him and my heart hurt for him. Eve seems pretty self involved throughout most of this book, but in her defense, she has been through more than anyone should have to deal with. And I can totally see the only daughter/youngest child getting a bit spoiled like that. That doesn't mean she isn't likable though. I really liked her, she isn't mean or intentionally rude. She just doesn't always think about how others are feeling. Her friend Kayla is a true friend. It's a great story, and I can't wait to read the next book!!!
I have no idea here to begin!! This book will pull at your heart strings for sure. I loved this story from the very beginning. This book will pull at every emotion you have, it will be the best emotional rollercoaster you will be on. I was addicted, I could not put this book down. I feel in love for Eve and Theron right away. My heart hurt for these characters, tragedy strikes Eve and Theron is hiding a secret about the past. Eve doesn't feel whole with out him with her. Will Eve and Theron be able to survive the secret Theron is hiding about her past? Will these two find away to make it work? I honestly cannot stress how much of a must read this book is and I cannot wait to read book 2.. Go get your copy right this moment, do not wait any longer to fall in love with these two.
The only reason I didn't rate this as a 5 star read is probably the same reasons others will. This author always blows my mind with her books and I love the emotion and action behind all the deceit and backstabbing and father against son. Man she always has these emotional crazy escapades where you want to choke one person for a minute then hug them the next. You want the girl to just stop and when she does the guy goes off script and then she does a cliff-hanger. Yeah by the time you get to the end you are truly wrapped in the madness and then it's over. But hey no worries the next book is already out so yeah I am all over it. An amazing read it's hot and steamy and then it's heart racing drama, everything we love.
This is a very well written story about dealing with lost friendship, lost love, and recovery. After the murder of her best friend, Eve finds solace in the arms of a man, Theron, whom she just met. Upheaval not only in her personal life, but at work, leaves Eve floundering. Who hasn't been there? When it rains, it pours! Right? Not only can this author, Amber Lacie, pour out emotions in her words, but her storyline provokes strong emotions in the reader. I found myself not being able to put this book aside from page one until I finished it. Put this book on your must read list.
I was not impressed at all with this book. While it had a good story line, I felt like it written by a teenager.
I was surprised to find out I have read a book by Amber Lacie before, Indigo, and I rated in 3 stars. It was also a good story line but lacked character depth.
This story has immense character depth, however Eve, our heroine is psychotic. Granted she is going through several things all at once that are completely unbelievable but she does not handle her emotions in any sane way.
There is a book 2 and I have to read it because I was given it for free for an honest review. I only hope this gets this better.
An emotional read, focusing on the loss of special people and how they cope with it. Betrayal, instant attraction, lies, you name it and its probably in this book.
I did enjoy the storyline, i think there could be a bigger lead up to them getting together. It was instant and as readers we like to see a build up of some sort. Also sleeping together the day after her best friend dies, kind of made me hate her for a bit. But people have delayed reactions right? Luckily i warmed up to her a bit.
This is the first novel in this amazing series. This novel follows Eve through her dealing with loss and Theron who is from her past but she does not remember there childhood friendship. This novel is beautifully written and well developed with no plot-holes. The character's are realistic and complex. This novel has a mixture of sugar & spice. It has mystery, love, lust, secrets, & many twist & turns. This novel will bring you to tears and laughter. I highly recommend reading this book as you will not be disappointed. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this amazing series.
As always this author's characters are dynamically written. The plot has twists and turns. You are taken on a journey of emotion an suspense from page one. This book does have a bit of a slower start than others by this author but the intensity of the storyline itself may even have you skimming over the hot scenes (which are great) to get back to the drama. This story like many others I'm sure will garner some hate mail for Amber... She seems to enjoy invoking intense emotions in her readers. She is really good at it! This book is a definite must read!

Shadows was the first Amber Lacie book I have read and I can tell you it won’t be the last! She has a way of grabbing you by the heart and throwing ALL the punches! Her writing style is raw, gritty and completely realistic. I absolutely loved Eve and Theron. They are engaging and the dialogue between them is natural. The chemistry will knock your socks off, too. Theron’s grandmother was hysterical. She just may have been my favorite character. I had to dive straight in to Light, Book 2 of the series, because I had to know what happened! This is a must read for over 18 romance lovers!
This is the first book Ive read by Amber and wow, what a story. I was hooked from the first chapter. It's full of twists and emotion. It's a love story with an evil dark side to it. At first I thought Theron was a crazy stalker but my opinion of him soon changed. When he met Eve sparks flew between them but neither of them realised what would be in store for them. I loved all the characters especially Gram.........She's the sort of old lady I would love to be !!.. This was a great mix of humour, hot sex, mystery and love, lies and deceit. Well worth reading !!
This is the first book that I have read by this author and my days, she ripped my heart out in the first couple of chapters! I was gripped! The instant connection between Theron and Eve gave me hope for my broken heart but I had a feeling something was brewing but what, I didn't know. In amongst the angst and heartache is Isla, Theron's Grandmother, what a sassy, spitfire!! She had me laughing out loud but also shedding tears. Now I need to read the next book in this series because this one left me all kinds of worried!
I really wanted to like this book, and I tried hard to get into it. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the main female character which made it difficult for me to enjoy the story as a whole. I give the author kudos for an interesting plotline. It would have been nice to have had a little more backstory for Theron. My main issue with the female character is that she seemed very juvenile and immature. I was waiting for her to step up and be a strong female lead, but it seemed like everyone in the story was steamrolling her. I loved Theron's grandma though. Great character.
Theron and Eve sure take you on quite a journey with all the things going on. This book has so many twists and turns that you just have to keep reading for more. I enjoyed reading this book. My first book I've read by this author. I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into but I was hooked. Eve kind of grated on my nerves some. I can't wait for more. Yes you will be on one heck of a journey reading this. Highly recommend.
Theron, and adonis with a sexy smile, dominates Eve in every way. Their connection is instant when they meet. Falling in love quickly isn't the issue with these two. Little does Eve know, that Theron is a boy she knew from her past. Lies, betrayal and heartbreak tears them apart❤
I can't wait to read the next book. Can their love survive or will the issues between them tear them apart?
this book was awesome! its about a young woman who thinks life is just great until she loses the one thing that is important to her. she bumps into a rich guy who nearly knocks her off her feet. can he bring her out of the dark and what about the secrets that are being kept! thanks for giving me a chance to read this book!
