Abby Craig Paranormal Mystery #1

Girl on the Ghost Train

Rate this book
Ghost whisperer Abby Craig is back home in Bend, Oregon, and she's finally ready to accept her gift. She figures that if the ghosts won't leave her alone, she might as well turn it into a business.

But as Abby grapples with troubling spirits, paranormal charlatans, marketing strategies, and mounting bills, her friend David calls from British Columbia saying his movie set is being haunted by a dead relative. Abby suspects that this is probably just another case of "David being David" but soon discovers there's more to his story than meets the eye.

A lot more.

Missing props, power failures, and jittery actors are costing the studio millions, leaving the director at the end of his rope. A growing darkness descends over the production and the "accidents" keep piling up. Abby's running out of time. Can she stop the malevolent entity before tragedy strikes?

Go back to where it all began... read Forty-Four again or for the first time.

Praise for Forty-Four...

"A FANTASTIC novel! Forty-Four was just about impossible to put down once I started. From the very beginning, there was an air of mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat... I highly recommend this fantastic novel!"
The Caffeinated Diva

"Everything from the setting, to the time frame, to the characters, was beautifully developed. This book is truly a gem and I highly recommend it. It literally took my breath away."
Avery's Book Review

"Sinclair sucked me in like a vacuum cleaner sucks up dirt. She brings mystery, love, and friendship to the book and weaves a lovely tale."
Just Another Book Addict

"IMPRESSIVE! Forty-Four is a wolf in sheep's clothing, and will take readers by storm. With so much information in such a small book it will impress readers to the detail and depth in so few pages. The conclusion will take your breath away. Don't miss you chance to check out this amazing story."
The Book Whisperer

"Fantastic, edge of your seat thriller. A MUST READ! It twists you about and as soon as you think you have it all figured out, throws you for the final loop with an ending that will break the hardest heart."

The story could have benefited from the attention of a good content editor.

2.5 stars, all things considered.

This story meandered all over the place instead of sticking to the main ghost mystery. What was the point of that whole story with the ghost hunters? Or of that whole interlude in Bend between the events in Vancouver and LA? In my opinion, it didn't bring anything to the story and was a drag to read.

I am also not a fan of the protagonist. For a self-described ghost whisperer, she is rather incompetent, not to mention incurious. Ghostly stuff happens, and she never actually follows up. A ghost tries to warn her repeatedly, but she doesn't even try to remember some of the words she is saying to run them through Google translate. Bad things happen at the studio... and she goes home to edit her book. Really?

I also didn't particularly like her as a person, especially when it comes to her relationship to Ty. He let her know, without doubt, that he didn't want her in his life after what she did... yet she can't take no for an answer. Why? Because she can't let him go, so he has to reconsider and take her back? And she will remind him of herself by texting him all the time? That's incredibly selfish and unhealthy.

Finally, for a book about ghosts, there was too little actual ghost interaction and way too much of Abby being spoiled by her rich actor friend.

Needless to say, I will not be continuing with this series.

Once again Jools Sinclair has given us a can't put it down book! This Abby Craig book has it all, suspense, drama, familiar characters and the charm that Jools always seems to easily capture in her books.
I highly recommend this book to all of you, make sure to read the Forty Four series also.

Let me start this by saying that Jools Sinclair is a phenomenal writer. She makes me think, scares me, makes me cry, and makes me happy. I have been hooked on her since my friend, Michelle, let me borrow the book, 44. I have read and journeyed through the protagonist, Abby Craig's life. She has really matured in this book. She is trying to find the new normal, and is embracing the fact that she sees ghosts and can talk with them. Her best friend and actor, David Norton is working on a new movie, but the movie seems cursed. Abby flies out and tries to help him save the day, even though she knows how dramatic he can be. David Norton is one of my most favorite characters in this series. I had forgotten how much I loved him until this book. He is dramatic, crazy, and pretty much everything Abby isn't, but she needs in her life. He provides sound advice with her on her love life, and real life. At the movie set, Abby doesn't seem to see anything out of place, but as the book goes on, she realizes David isn't being too dramatic, something sinister is at play. Jools included a sample of the next book that will be out later this year, but it was not nearly enough for me. I need more! Seriously, great book. Abby is back and better than ever! I highly suggest this book!

I'm giving four stars for Girl on the Ghost Train as I really liked Abby Craig. I thought she was kind and thoughtful and wanted to use her psychic abilities to help people. I liked the fact the book was split into quite short chapters, even though it meant they reached sixty or so.
The only thing I didn't understand was her gay male friend's need to share his bed with her. And her sister a little later on. Perhaps this is an American thing and I'm being very British, but I couldn't see the purpose of it and it didn't really add to the story.
The book was well written with not too many characters. Abby's ghost hunting and working out what had happened to Ed incorporated crime, supernatural and mystery into a story I can recommend.

Having written the 44 series of books I was gutted when the series came to an end however I was delighted when I found out that Jools Sinclair had plans to continue to deliver us stories centred around the main character from the series.
This book is a fantastic work that flows beautifully and draws the reader in to keep you turning the pages as you want to know what comes next but despite all of this I found that when I got to the end I had not expected what came and was pleased to find this to be a story that had an ending that made sense but you didn't see coming.
If you have read the 44 series then this is a must and if you haven't yet read the 44 series I highly recommend you do and that this is a book very much worth reading following that series.

If your a fan of the 44 series you'll love this book. Absolutely fantastic. Fast read. I was so excited to see this book in my library. It seemed like forever for this one to come out. I can't wait for the next. Fast paced easy read, characters remain the same throughout all stories which I'm very happy about. Want something that holds your interest do yourself a favor and read Girl On the Ghost Train you won't be disappointed.

Another good book

It started out a bit slow for me, but it drew me in as Jools usually does. She’s become my favorite author and a very good friend. I always recommend her books to my friends. This month here at the home we are starting a book club and I’m hoping to get more people reading Jools books. Can’t wait for the next book. Already got me hooked. Thank you so much my friend.

This is my favorite Abby Craig story

Which is weird, because I almost didn’t even read the series, due to the title of this book! I always feel like authors who have book titles that start with “Girl” are trying to get pulled up when anyone searches for Stieg Larßon’s “Dragon Tattoo” series.
Anyway, I’m so glad that I gave the first book a chance, because they just keep getting better!

Without a doubt another book you can't put down, an edge of the seat thriller, leaving you wondering what's going to happen next. If that's your style of reading then this book is for you. Great job Jools !!

I missed Abby and am really glad that she is back! The story was a little lack lustre, and I found David's habit of calling Abby, Abby Craig annoying. However the characters are well written and it is like visiting old friends. Looking forward to lots more Abby to come!
