I was able to read a free copy of the first installment of the Lady Mechanika: La Dama de la Muerte before. I was really amazed by how great that issue is and I promised that someday I would try to check the other stories in the Lady Mechanika series.
Lady Mechanika Vol. 4: The Clockwork Assassin
And now, I saw that there's another free reading copy of the incredible this comic book. I was ecstatic to get my hands on this digital copy, and I'm really happy and amazed at how great the tandem of Benitez and Chen in coming up with this another awesome story.
Lady Mechanika Vol. 4: The Clockwork Assassin
I'm looking forward to reading the other upcoming adventures of Lady Mechanika. This, in particular, is a worthy-read and really recommendable.

Lady Mechanika is at it again! In The Clockwork Assassin, Mechanika finds herself at the center of another case. Instead of just investigating, she must clear her name since she is the main suspect of multiple murders. Well-respected scientists have been murdered. An eye witness places her at one of the crime scenes. It's up to Mechanika to solve the murder mystery with the help of Archie and Inspector Detective Singh.

Volume four was just as good as the previous issues. This one is a bit longer than volume three, so I'm happy about that. The mystery is a very good one. Great clues and clever character development keeps you guessing. I loved the cloak and dagger aspects as they attempt spying on Blackpool. We also get more information about Archie's life and why he's so despondent all the time. We also learn a bit more about Blackpool and his connection to a new character, Ms. Cain - the sister of Elias Cain (the shady character from previous graphic novels). All of these side characters have a role in Mechanika's past; some of which we know and some that we don't. The art work is phenomenal. The fight scenes are fabulous. I love the character and plot development is always just as important as the art. Glorious mystery and development of this Steampunk world that I love so much.

Update: After reading this one again and again, my review still stands up. This is another great installment in the series.

The murder-mystery isn't much to speak of. The character designs and world building, however, are fantastic. In this volume, we peer into Mr. Lewis's (Lady Mechanika's inventor friend and sidekick) backstory. I like the nice touches of adding the gearworks frames around each page.

Received an advance copy from Benitez Productions and Edelweiss. All thoughts are my own and in no way influenced by the aforementioned.

Lady Mechanika, Volume 4: Clockwork Killer gives us a chilling mystery set in the dark streets of London. Famous engineers are dying left and right at the hand of a mysterious killer bearing a striking resemblance to Lady Mechanica. Who is trying to frame her? Lady Mechanika is in a race against time to stop the killer and at the same time trying to clear her name.

Joe Benítez supplies us with oodles of gorgeously detailed art. The storyline has plenty of action, suspence and a nice twist at the end. I’m a fan!

Themes: Victorian Steampunk on steroids, awesome artwork, we get to know more of Mr. Lewis’ tragic past, Lady Gwendolyn Cain and her cadre of veiled handmaidens was a delightful addition, lady Mechanika’s origins still remain a mystery.

Excellent book! I love the art! A Victorian clockwork assassin is taking out men from a secret organization. But is the assassin our heroine?

I read Volume 1 some time ago and thought I give this a try. Pretty much the same experience. Pretty nice artwork, if you don‘t mind that the women are built like Barbie and have rubber tire lips. I like the muted colours.

The murder mystery was ok, alas it did not interest me much. There is a twist at the end, but it is not terribly surprising.

If you are into steampunk murder-mysteries with busty women, this might be a great choice.

There is some confusion regrading the numbering. Not quite sure if this is Volume 4 or 5.

I received this free e-copy from the publisher/author via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review, thank you!

Pros: gorgeous artwork, interesting characters, short mystery

Cons:

When old co-workers of Archibald Lewis start dying, Lady Mechanika is implicated in their murders.

As with the previous volumes I loved the artwork. I love the sharp cheekbones and narrow chins. I love Lady Mechanika’s Victorian-steampunk outfits. There’s a lot of motion and animation to the frames.

This volume can easily be read independent of the others (there are 2 minor references to prior events). The mystery is fast paced and while there are only a few suspects, it’s neat seeing the team investigate. I was curious why Gwendolyn Cain wasn’t the first person they questioned given her entourage at the funeral and the description of the killer.

This volume collects three issues and tells a complete story that’s entertaining and beautifully rendered.

The artwork is top-notch, as it always is with Joe Benitez works and Lady Mechanika. Sadly the story was a bit short in excitement. Maybe because it was a shorter series (3 comics versus 5 or 6)? Maybe because it was too obvious who the killer was? Or maybe it was just too much of an arc to bring us into the next series?
Either way I love the artwork and all the covers; as always, but am a bit disappointed in the overall story and lack of further development for our core characters.
Hopefully the next series that builds on the story brings it back up to five stars.

Loved it to pieces. It might have benefitted from a longer story arc, but it has a tight plot, great dialogues and astonishing artwork, not to mention a fabulous cover gallery at the end. Highly recommended.

I received this from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Beautiful artwork, good story. I am confused about the naming, though. Cover says "Volume 4", but all the titles on Goodreads, Edelweiss, and Amazon say "Volume 5".

I received an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley

Once again I'm kind of disappointed that this volume is so short because I think it definitely could have benefited from a few extra details. Still, it was a fun read and I think the series has really come into its own with the last few volumes so I'm definitely glad i didn't stop reading this series. I absolutely love the new art style in this volume. I think the style is a good fit for this book and is a testament to the fact that you actually can draw a woman who looks sexy but not ridiculous. Also I liked the way that gears were incorporated into the panel framing and some of the cool new designs like the steampunk wheelchair and motorcycle thing.

3.5*

Joe Benitez continues his momentum and develops his steampunk creativity to the delight of fans of the genre.

A very classic, not to say banal, investigation, to be honest, but the exuberance of the designs and the flavour of the dialogues more than make up for it.

The day Benitez decides to ink - as opposed to scribble over - his drawings, we will be close to perfection in that regard.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the review copy in exchange for an honest review

One graphic novel I have heard a bit about would be Lady Mechanika. While searching through what kind of comics and graphic novels I could read through the library I found a few volumes of this graphic novel. Shortly after that I found this volume on Netgalley and decided to give it a try.

When I first looked into Lady Mechanika I had to really search what was what. Most of these big volumes are first published in six different issues. Adding on to that confusion is that this volume is marked as 4 on the cover and the inside page, but the file is called volume 5. I do think that you can easily settle into this without having read any of the previous installments.

The art is great. Very consistent. The whole tone of the colors fit very well with the steampunk elements and Lady Mechanika’s personality. The full spread bust and pictures of Lady Mechanika in the back are also gorgeous. However the adult females, lady mechanika included, are all drawn the same. Fanservice for males. Skimpy clothes. Very busty, very thin waist. I mean, I’ve seen skimpier clothes but even so…be aware of that when you go into these.

Lady Mechanika is a very tough lady but it is also clear to see that she has her attachments to people. Like Lewis. I wish there had been more of an emphasis on their relationship. This is not a very long volume and could have easily been lengthened with a few pages.

As for the main mystery, I thought it was a bit boring. It was quite honestly a rather standard murder mystery. The twist at the end was easy to guess. Again, I feel like this whole volume could have used a few extra pages to deepen things out here and there. The question proposed in the synopsis about Lady Mechanika was to my eyes not touched upon at all.

As it stands now, this is a very standard volume. Nothing special. Nothing that seems to hint towards a bigger story line. Just a simple murder mystery. A nice in between read, but that is all it is.

A man is killed in the street by being cut in two at the waist. Given the force of the blow a person with mechanical enhancements is suspected. At the victim's funeral a friend of the man is also killed without anyone noticing the deed, not even the dead man himself. The thing they have in common is that they worked for Athena Industries and Blackpool Armaments in weapons design. Singh accuses Lady Mechanika after a witness claims to have seen her killing a third victim.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A mysterious murderer lurks in the dark. The victims have been sliced in half by someone with enormous strength and skills, and Lady Mechanika is accused of the murders, as she is the only one capable of such brutality. But as the murdered victims are connected to each other and to Mr. Lewis, Lady Mechanika and Detective Inspector Singh will have to work together in order to find the real murderer. What dark secrets are hidden in Mr. Lewis' past? And how can a human being have committed these inhumane acts?

This is a stunning steam-punk graphic novel, part mystery and part thriller. The story is full of intriguing characters and the storyline grasps the reader's immediate attention. The artwork is absolutely stunning, and the concept is overall original and 100% worth giving your whole attention to. Definitely recommended for fans of graphic novels.

I hesitate to give this a low rating as the art style and characters are brilliant, however, these volumes keep getting shorter and shorter and I feel unfulfilled by the end of the story.

I've really enjoyed all the Lady Mechanika books. This one isn't quite up to par with the others as the plot is rather dull and it's very short leaving us without much character development. There isn't really any action until the ending. The illustration, however, is as one would expect. The steampunk outfits are gorgeous. The ending is non-finite leaving us with the distinct impression there will be a sequel. Not the best in the series but a fun diversion.

Oh, I like.

The mystery of the murders has been intriguing and I like that we get to know a bit more about the past of Lewis.

However, I'm even more happy that we got a bit more about the past of Lady Mechanika in the second story. It's a tiny glimpse but woha!

I love the art and all the details a lot!

Kind of a cliche story about revenge that doesn't bring anything new or important to the whole world of Lady Mechanika or genre itself. Art is great as always, but mostly focused on characters, less on steampunk world/inventions/architecture that brings a lot of potential and probably also challenges for artist. Small focusing panels are sometimes unnecessary and annoying...

Une nouvelle aventure qui vaut le coup d'oeil ! On découvre également des indices supplémentaires sur les origines de l'héroïne. L'enquête traîne un peu mais ce n'est pas dérangeant.

Lady Mechanika, Vol. 5: Clockwork Assassin is another great addition to Joe Benitez and his run on this book. You will be blown away by the artwork but what Benitez does so well here is tell the story. Each tale in the mythos that is Lady Mechanika adds to the overall brilliance of these books. Clockwork Assassin is a strong addition to the growth of this terrific character.

Lady Mechanika lives in a Steampunk England and her body has been experimented on to the point that her enhancements have given her speed and strength. She is more cyborg than human but still searches for her humanity. Her friend Mr. Lewis is an engineer/scientists whose past is finally coming to roost as mistakes and regrets have deadly consequences.

An old friend and colleague of Mr. Lewis is brutally murdered by a female assassin. An assassin who resembles Lady Mechanika. As more of Lewis' old workmates are killed he must reveal secrets of himself and his past to clear Lady Mechanika and help find the killer. But what he doesn't realize is that he too is scheduled to be killed by the Clockwork Assassin!

The brilliant and beautiful artwork will draw you into these books, Benitez also does the pencilling on these books, but it is the story itself that will keep you turning the pages and buying up the next books in line. Benitez is in full control here and the tales of mystery and thrills will make a fan of anyone who picks up these books.

Because these are Steampunk in genre, some readers may pass them by but that is a mistake. These are damn good comics and I highly recommend the read!

Lady Mechanika Vol. 4 The Clockwork Assassin collects issues 1-3 of the comic books series written by Joe Benitez and M.M. Chen with art by Joe Venitez and Martin Montiel.

A series of brutal murders that appear to be carried out Lady Mechanika, lead Mr. Lewis, Lady Mechanika’s trusted companion, to visit the ghosts of his past.

This murder-mystery adds some well needed backstory to one of the main side characters in the Lady Mechanika universe. The art in this series continues to be is strongest factor. If you are fan of steampunk art, you definitely be checking out this series.

The story in this volume reveals to us more of Mr. Lewis' past, which is something good and super interesting to see. The problems was that...
It is too short. With more pages that give us a more deep look in the psychology and story of the new characters and Mr. Lewis himself would have been infinitely better. The narration feels rushed and doesn't give me a lot emotion, honestly. But still is enjoyable in its manner.

One of my favourite series to read. Each volume is standalone but over the 4 story arcs so far we have slowly had the mystery of Lady M's origins teased.

Comics work best when the team make the best use of all the components, here entire sequences are conveyed through visual cues to give more impact to when the character dialogue is used.

This was maybe the best one so far. We get to see Lady Mechanika bested and flawed, her partner takes more center stage, more clockworks than before, and a great murder mystery unfolds. The art is flawless. The story moves fast. I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
