Sometimes it's hard to let go of that hope of one day reuniting with the one who got away and after twenty-five years of separate, but equally challenging lives, Sutton and Liz have their second chance.
THE CAPTIVATING WARRIOR picks up right where THE PROTECTIVE WARRIOR leaves off, so I would suggest reading that one first to get the fully understand some of the characters.
Liz is in a terrible marriage, but she is so amazing in how she rises above all of that. Her selfless is admirable. As for Sutton--he's pretty awesome and easy to crush on. His bravery and flawless planning makes the heart flutter. I loved seeing glimpses of other characters in the series, as well.
Cami Checketts really is a master at creating a suspense that gives me major anxiety, yet wraps me up a comforting and tender romance that's full of emotion. And the twists! I loved them. This one is definitely gripping and full of tense moments, yet the promise of peace glimmering in the distance got me through.
This is a beautiful story of true love and forgiveness as soulmate find their way back to each other and heartwarming romance with charming characters .
These books by Cami Checketts are catchy and the plot is fine. Too many errors with English slang and the way in which she uses it. There’s a huge division between classes, and the area of England in which these words are used. As an English reader it just ground on my nerves way too much. American readers won’t be bothered by it I’m sure, but it just got annoying for me.
I loved The Protective Warrior, and highly recommend reading that story before reading this one! The Captivating Warrior picks up right where The Protective Warrior left off, but now we get more of Sutton's story.
This is a beautiful Love story about second chances. I loved the suspense, the storyline and the introduction to those chunky Navy Seals. This book is recommended for those that love sweet romance.
Loved this book. These two authors are great story tellers, especially together. I could almost see the action happening. Can’t wait for the next round of books.
This is the first book I read in this series and it was edge of your seat amazing! Dan and Cami are an amazing team. This collaboration between the 2 of them was pure genius! You will find yourself on an emotional rollercoaster and as any good book should you’ll be cheering, screaming and maybe even gasping or close to crying at some point. Can’t wait to read more from these 2 and the rest of this series as well!
Love it! It had it all, romance, suspense, and good guys winning!
Sutton been in love with Liz forever, he help Her and her daughter get away from an extremely abusive husband and father. With the help of some powerful friends, they help expose the Duke of all he has done.
I love this book! It is so well written. It shows depth to the wonderful characters and has great suspense as well as the reunion of lost loves. A very enjoyable book!
Liz has only one wish, that her daughter Ally be happy and safe! After 25 years of being married to the Duke she hopes that when Ally is safe from her father, that he will kill her quickly! As long as he leaves Ally alone she doesn't care anymore what happens to her. The ball Lord Kingsley was throwing was the perfect cover for her plan. Then she sees him, Sutton Smith, oh how she has dreamed of him these past 25 years. Liz is talking to Poppy when he comes right up to her and asks for a dance. It may be the very last time she will ever see him so she agrees. She can feel James' eyes on her and for the first time doesn't care what he thinks, since she knows he will met out her punishment when they get home. Only Sutton tells her she is going to be coming with them when they leave! When Sutton delivers her back to James, he puts his arm around her waist and not lovingly! Then something amazing happens, Ally and River are in the middle of the dance floor announcing their marriage. Wait, River? But he's dead, James had him killed in Kauai, how is he alive? Oh Liz is so happy, her daughter is marrying the man she loves! Not Henry who her father was trying to force her to marry! Then Poppy, who happens to be Rivers mother asks Liz to show her where the "potty" room is. James is about fit to be tied. First Sutton and now this marriage and the American woman who doesn't know what to call the restroom? He calls after them not to be very long. When they get there, Sutton is waiting and escorts her to the garage. What happens next? Oh my so much action! Will Liz and Sutton get away? Will someone betray them? Will Sutton be able to exact his revenge on James for stealing Liz from him? Only one way to find out, read this great story by Cami Checketts and Daniel Banner.
I haven't read every book in this series but I have read most of them and this is my favorite among them. I was just going to read a chapter or two before going to bed. Ha! Finally dragged myself to bed at 2:00 am after finishing the entire thing. I just couldn't find a good lull point to stop reading. I was invested from the beginning since I'd already seen everything that happened in The Protective Warrior and with just a bit of overlap this one picks up Liz and Sutton's end of the story. I sooooo wanted to know how they could bring the Duke down because he was a horrible, horrible person. I love it when the bad guy gets what is deserved. So, to bed at 2:00 and then I couldn't sleep as I laid there savoring the story. Yes, I'm tired but it was worth it I think.
I don't really know enough about English slang but some of the stuff used in the book felt off to me or stuck out in any case so that might be one complaint I had. And there was a touch of repetition in the main characters' thoughts. And even a description that had already been given. Those would be my negatives.
I love a second chance romance and that is probably one of the reasons I enjoyed this book so much. Decades later, they get their chance again and clear up misunderstandings. But really, the intrigue in the book was the highlight for me. I love a good sting operation even if there are setbacks. And this one read like a movie in my mind. I could see it all happening as I read.
Sex: some leering and crude remarks Language: no Violence: yes
My review today is on the Christian Romance, The Captivating Warrior. This is book two in the series Navy SEAL Romance. I really enjoy military books as I am a military brat myself and was married to a military man. This story is well-written, action-packed, and full of drama. I know you are going to love it.
Sutton Smith lost all twenty-five years ago. He was stripped of his rank in the British Royal Navy and lost the woman he loved. She married another, a scheming Duke. Now he has become a billionaire, a James Bond, and a force to be reckoned with. When he learns she has secretly divorced her husband he asks her to leave with him and his team. Will she trust him?
Duchess Elizabeth Gunthry married a man she hated to protect the man she loved twenty-five years ago. Now her husband is trying to force their daughter to marry. She secretly divorces him. At a ball to announce her daughter's engagement, Sutton's men rescue her daughter; as she has one last dance with the love of her life. He asks her to trust him and leave with him.
A horrific journey of two broken souls. God has a plan for these two, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a plan for peace and not for destruction. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life.
The Captivating Warrior: Cami’s Navy SEAL Romance Book 2 is by Cami Checkers. This second book is just as good as the first one or possibly better. The characters are so realistic and the plot is believable as well. The intense suspense never lets up. River and Ally from Book 1 are married and off on their honeymoon. Liz has her divorce from James and is leaving the mansion to go with Sutton. James, however, does not know about the divorce yet. That is for another day. Meanwhile, Sutton has taken Liz to his home in California. He has his SEALS and other men there to watch over her. He plans to take Liz and Agatha to his island and leave them there while he takes care of the business of ruining James in London. Before they can leave California, a bomb goes off destroying his house. Someone in his employ is a traitor. He sets Zane to finding all he can about everyone who works for him and who has been at the house to find the traitor. Once things are settled on the island, Sutton leaves for London and his chance to clear his own name and destroy James’s. Hopefully, all will turn out as planned.
This was my first book by Banner. I have read a few from Checketts. I enjoyed this book. I loved the action. There was a good plot and twists in the story. The reason I only gave it a three was because I felt that the two main characters had two much of an inner battle with themselves over their feelings for each other. That wasn’t the problem so much as it felt very repetitive. Also, I know this may seem silly but who throws a million dollar ring in the ocean. It reminds me of the scene of Titanic and of course the character is a billionaire, so what is a million dollars compared to the symbolism of control and greed. I just felt the money from the ring could have been used to help even more abused woman.
So great to get Sutton's story to go along with the Navy SEAL stories! This is a must read after The Protective Warrior. It picks up right where The Protective Warrior left off. I actually read The Stealth Warrior before both of the other books. The Stealth Warrior is the third of these three chronologically. It worked for me to read them out of order though. These SEALs are amazing. Sutton is the "James Bond" that leads them all. The love of his life was lost to him 25 years earlier. So fun watching Sutton rescue Liz from a life of misery and pain. Liz is spunky and a perfect match for Sutton. Lots of action, adventure, and a bit of mystery. The story definitely kept me engaged and wanting more.
This is a book that should be a "must read" for every Cami Checketts fan. So many of her book series are connected by the James Bond-type billionaire, Sutton Smith, and his team of retired military special forces and private security specialists. This is the story of Sutton Smith winning his first and only true love, the former duchess of Gunthry, Elizabeth -- informally known as Liz. This is a powerful, suspenseful, tremendously sweet and swoony story you will simply adore. Now you too will have the inside scoop on this power couple's long lasting love affair.
I purchased a copy of this story from Amazon individually and as part of bonus material in a special edition boxset, and voluntarily chose to share my review.
Sutton Smith has a plan to save the daughter of the woman he has loved over 25 years and that same woman from the clutches of her abusive husband, the Duke Gunthry. Elizabeth Gunthry wants to get her daughter away from her father. Duke Gunthry has abused Liz for 25 years and has sworn to kill her if she or their daughter ever try to leave him. He's already killed everyone who tried to help them escape, including the man that Ally loves. When Liz and Sutton meet again will their love for each other survive or will the long separation be too much to keep them together?
The Captivating Warrior is the 2nd book in Navy Seal Romance series by Cami Checketts. This was a well written fast paced military romance filled with suspense, danger, old flames, secrets, and love. Sutton is a disgraced former Commodore in the English Navy who now is not only a billionaire but also has his own well known private security company made up of former Navy Seals. Elizabeth is an English Duchess living in a real life nightmare with a manipulative and abusive husband who longs to escape and reclaim the love she thought she lost years ago. Readers will not only love this book but be on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
Loved this one. It's been my favorite of the series so far along with the Broken Warrior. I loved delving into Sutton's mind and feelings. It was tense, romantic, and sweet. Clean. Throughout the series, I have a hard time not thinking of Sutton as a 60 or 70 year old man because he had such a presence and was so looked up to and respected. This book helped me see the character he was supposed to be from the beginning. Nice ending. Loved getting to know each of the SEAL's and their stories. Can't wait for more in this series or a spin off series. I would read this one again.
Great read, all the love intrigue and mystery as to who you can believe or who to trust. The fact that Sutton ran the most prestigious seal operation of seal warriors who fought for the good of others. He also fought to save the love of his life from her disastrous marriage of 25 years to a man who abused her both mentally and fiscally . This was such a great read in the series of seal warriors. Another great one by Cami Checkers. This was a Free read as well. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
A great romance with lots of suspense. This is the first book I've read in this series, and while I was able to follow along, I could tell I was missing some information. If you don't like spoilers, I suggest starting this series from the beginning. That said, I love Liz and Sutton. Sometimes it is harder to connect with older characters, but I didn't feel that way with them at all. They were great and their chemistry was great. I was drawn into the story quickly. A good clean romance thriller.
The man behind and in charge of the best and most secret security force. His name keeps popping up in the various books I read. Finally, Sutton's story. Trials galore causing many learning experiences and character development. Great example of positive learning from our experiences both positive and negative. Exciting adventure and romance. Loved this book.
Long lost love, escaping an abusive and over controlling relationship. Finding a way to communicate and trust. Liz and Sutton have to work through all of these in different ways before they can reconnect. As James works his evil and control to keep money and power over Liz who keeps on trying to gain her freedom. The mole who’s playing both sides is an add twist
James had been courting Elizabeth trying to get her to marry him, but she refuses. Then James tells Liz that Sutton is in major trouble and that he will help Sutton if Liz agrees to marry him. Not long after the wedding Liz learns that James lied about everything. He doesn't love her, he wasn't helping Sutton and he was an abusive man.
Now it's 25 years later and Liz see Sutton again what will happen now?
Finally! I have been waiting for this book since I first started the series with the The Resolved Warrior! Even in River and Ally’s story( The Protective Warrior), I knew there was more to the story but had to wait for this book. It is an awesome clean romance that is suitable for anyone and I’m so glad that Liz and Sutton finally got their HEA!
The more of these books that I read, I was going crazy wanting to know more about Sutton Smith and FINALLY I got some answers. It was great to have some answers to behind the scenes questions and learn more about the Hawk brothers in the process.
I was so glad when I started reading this book because the full story would come full circle. The story of Sutton the leader of the Ex-Seals was finally released. It did not disappoint me.
