Variant: The Lieutenant Harrington Series, Book 4.
As the Miami Homicide Bureau's lead detective, Lieutenant Nash Harrington has seen just about every way one person could take another's life. Still, the latest scene is something new.
It isn't the woman who was violently stabbed to death in her bed. Nash has seen similar scenes countless times. It isn't the fact that there were no signs of forced entry, murder weapons, or suspects. He's seen that more times than he could count.
What is new to the lieutenant is the book lying beside the woman's body. The book, ominously titled and written by a local author, describes the very scene that Harrington has been called to.
And that scene from the book is just the first. As the body count rises, Harrington and his team must hunt down the person responsible for the grisly crimes before the entire work of fiction becomes a reality.
Unknown to Harrington, this story may have an alternate ending.

Fourth Lt. Nash Harrington "thriller" from author E.H. Reinhard. A very pedestrian thriller at best. To date all four books I've read in this series have been somewhat weak. Covering a bare 190 some odd pages I kept starting and stopping because the plot just didn't hook me. Protagonist Lt. Nash Harrington is somewhat one dimensional and shallow to be sure. The supporting characters are just as lifeless as Harrington. Even the villain left a lot to be desired in depth. Just two stars out of a possible five stars for, "Variant", from author E.H. Reinhard. What exactly in this book was a 'Variant' ? (1.50 stars more to the point on this thriller. Lucky for rounding ....) Weak book in a weak series. Just leave it on your kindle for a desperation read.
Reading a book by E.H. Reinhart. Each book is so different. This book You know from the beginning who the killer is. But it doesn't hinder the excitement and entertainment of how he's caught. Right from the beginning, the murders start and continue until the end. The killer stays one step ahead of the police. Very tense!! I would like to thank the author, for having his books, in Kindle Unlimited. I read pretty much two books a day, some days three. There's no way I could afford that many books, if it wasn't for authors, who use Kindle Unlimited. I highly recommend all of E.H. Reinhardt books. You won't be sorry!!
This is my fourth in the series and overall, I like them well enough. I generally read crime books when I don't have anything else to read and I mean that in the best possible way. I think he's a good writer...very detail, flows well and the plots mostly makes sense. Some parts of most books are overplayed and unrealistic, but that's part of the excitement and drama. I especially like Lt. Harrington and his crew, that's really important. I would recommend it, especially for crime lovers.
Lieutenant Nash Harrington I can’t wait until the book 5. So much suspense, this one had me on the edge of my seat. I love the book within the book story so Smart!!!! Great writing, great author E. H. Reinhard!!!
A police procedural without all the emotional drama. Again, Mr Reinhard lays the story out one step at a time, and the reader follows right along with Lt Harrington and crew. Concise and direct and full of a crazy plot. Excellent.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Variant and highly recommend it to anyone who loves reading great police action procedurals. Grab your copy today, you’ll be delighted you did!
This book kept you on your toes until the end. Lots of twist and turns. Loved the main character. Love this author and read all his books. Highly recommend this author you won't be disappointed.
Engrossing. Finished it in less that 24 hours. On a roll! Waiting for Christopher Rosow’s book 5 in his Ben Porter series; in the meantime read the first four: False Assurances, Threat Bias, Subversive Addiction and Vital Deception!
4.25 Stars. Another captivating novel in this crime drama series. I like an original storyline and this book was no cookie-cutter plot. I prefer a little romance with suspense, but none is given by this author.
I really like the Harrington series. He got a little super hero in the climax but it worked. I appreciate that Reinhard involves others from the department. It gives a more true vibe to the story line
This novel really kept me turning pages- the action just kept coming. I like the main character Nash Harrington a lot- he is human and has a life in addition to his police work.
Another winner R. H. Reinhard! I've been so captivated that I rushed to the next in the series instead of commenting on the second and third books. Sorry about that but also of them have been excellent reads! Keep it up!!!! Bravo!!
Couldn't Put it down Read it from page 1 all the way through. I liked the ending. Left me waiting for the person who left the other finger prints to eventually show up in an upcoming release.
In this fourth book in the Nash Harrington series a mentally disturbed individual is acting out the actions of the "bad guy" in a police thriller novel. Nash needs to solve the case before the killer completes the novel.
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that he never stops writing. His books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
I enjoy reading EH Reinhard books. Variant did not disappoint; good pacing, good police procedural, and a good storyline. I cannot wait to see what happens next.
This is a very intense read! I was holding my breath, flipping the pages, and praying for the maniac’s unlucky target. Can breathe now. On to the next case.
