I really wanted to like this book bc it is the first in a series of "steamy historical romance novellas," but it fell flat for me in so many ways. Lonely Lord George (4th son of a duke) is searching for a courtesan along the docks of the Thames at the recommendation of his brother for companionship. Lady Florence (from Italy... so, she's named after a city in Italy?) is seeking transport back to her home country after learning that London a 24/7 ballroom and poetry party. The two collide (literally), trade insults, and then get chased by men engaged in a random riot. They end up in a small, dusty room that they barricade with the sparse items inside and decide to wait it out. Somehow they end up sharing their deepest secrets and desires, and when George goes to make a move, Florence rebuffs him by saying that making love should be for people in love. But then an hour later, she launches herself at him and begs him to take her.

This book was much too cheesy for my tastes. Somehow they become madly attracted to each other despite a total lack of chemistry. The love scenes were underwhelming (to say the least), and we are supposed to believe that the handsome 4th son of a duke (with 3 older brothers!) is a 30 year old virgin...? Then there was a clear condemnation from both MCs that seeking a courtesan was immoral and would follow George forever/change the rest of his life...? Huh? It was pretty common for men of the ton to seek out these "upscale ladies of the night," so I am not sure where all that came from - it felt randomly preachy, especially for a historical romance in this era. Not for me.

Read on iBooks!

Lost With A Lord was an OK read. I don't often read Regency romances, so I generally don't know what to expect from them. The pacing did feel a little off at times. Main character Lord George is searching for a woman on the shipyard docks one night but bumps into a different woman instead. Both of them at first insult each other, then try to figure out if their feelings towards them are romantic and genuine. As stated in my first sentence, it was OK. I wanted to see the romance and chemistry developed more.

A Chance meeting that turns into so much more! Lord George Northmere wants companionship because he is just tired of being alone. He decides to take a stand and seek out comfort. But what he finds is Miss Florence Capria looking for a ship to get home! Caught together trying to avoid a riot they spend the night together and sparks fly! But now that the new day starts, is there anything left for them? The journey to forever love is full of surprises and surrounded by some danger and even humor. Although a novella, I was delighted as I turned the pages of this story. With a very strong minded heroin, Italian born Florence, she pushes for her love of George and anything can happen!!! This is the start of a new series and I look forward to the next stories to come!!

This is such a fun story! It’s a bit shorter than a full length novel so the story moves along at a pretty fast pace. Perfect for a cozy afternoon or a relaxing evening read.
Lord George and the fiery Florence get trapped together in a small room overnight, after they find themselves in the middle of a mob fight on the London docks. Murdoch weaves a lovely story full of soul searching and intimate confessions, done in the dark of night. Two lonely people, thrown together by chance, find their soulmate. But in the cold light of day, awkwardness and uncertainty takes over leading to misunderstandings and a hurried departure. George and Florence both regret their hasty actions and things they left unsaid. Happily for both them and us, they find each other again and find their HEA.
Is this a quick story? Yes. Does it seem improbable that they fall in love overnight? Yes. Is it possible to find your soul mate in one crazy meeting? Yes! Is it impossible for two people to fall in love so quickly? Not at all.
You will cheer when Florence finally finds George again and they get married. Be sure to get the book so you can enjoy the story too.

Lord George Northmere and Miss Florence Capria are stuck in hovel waiting for the dockside riots to stop. they end up staying the night. I thought it was an interesting story. Two people in search of what they think they need, and end up getting their own HEA. I definitely recommend this story.

Eloquently written story about 'two lost souls finding refuge together'. A very unlikely pair, coming together in a very unlikely place; the London docks. But when they find their way again, do they loose each other?

This is an OK Regency romance, but I didn't really believe the couple was in love. They were definitely in lust, but their instalove was just too unlikely and unbelievable.

I liked the couple well enough, but their behavior didn't fit the time. No gentleman or gentle woman would have been alone on the London docks at night, because they would have almost certainly been robbed, raped, or murdered. I also thought it was a bit unbelievable that the H was a virgin, because very few men of that time period were -- the men were expected to be sexually experienced, while the women were expected to be innocent.

I did get a little irritated at Florence a few times, with her ridiculous temper. She got mad at many things George said, and much of the time it was undeserved.

I also thought it was very unlikely that Florence would have had sex with George that first night. With her history, she would have been completely against sex outside of marriage. She would have also worried that she might get pregnant.

***** Minor Spoiler Follows *****

There was one obvious error in the story. At one point, when Florence leaves, George throws money at her, and accuses her of being a courtesan -- but he knows she is not, since she was a virgin.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Lord George decides to go to the docks to meet this special courtesan. However, instead he runs into a riot & bumps into a Lady who is heading for a ship bound for Italy. Unfortunately the two get tangled into the riot & each other.

IT'S GETTING HOT IN HERE!!!
Hey guys, right here is where you want to be. Nope, no joke all kidding aside. This remarkable spin of a regency romance is refeshing and a slendid way to pass a few hours. If you're looking for excitement, suspense, action, steady paced with a strong plot to keep you captivated until the last word. Congrats my friends you've just stepped off in it. You have it all, all the heart pounding, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping and a chemistry so hot between the two main characters its explosive. The characters were intriguing and complex with a undeniable connection between the two main characters. Their bond is white hot, off the charts, it burns brighter than the sun and is hotter than an erupting volcano. The scenes were so realistic and believable with such vivid detailed descriptions that brought you back to ground zero in the regency era. Twists, turns and a multitude of unexpected surprises that will keep your attention on this page turning bombshell. Murdoch did a phenomenal job bringing this read together beautifully. Remarkable job Emily, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.

Emily Murdoch is an easy “go to” author for me when it comes to Regency Romance stories. That’s certainly the case with Lost with a Lord, the first of her new Ravishing Regencies novels. This book is, quite simply, beautifully romantic and well written. It had just what I wanted including a great plot. I frankly adore both wonderfully fiery Florence Capria, the tale’s Italian heroine, and her lonely English lord, George Northmere. It was s pleasure following along as their passion grew and romance developed. The rest of the cast of characters is pretty amazing as well. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next Ravishing Regencies book.

Two inexperienced people find that hearts are the only teachers they need.

This was a sweet insta-love set on the docks of London. George and Florence take shelter together for safety, and use that time to get to know each other ... very well, indeed. George is carrying around some heartbreaking issues from his youth, while Florence is trying to do better for her life than the example set for her. The test of their newfound relationship comes in the morning, when Florence is set to leave on the next ship heading to Italy, and George must decide if he can ask her to stay.

The story was more emotionally complex than just a summary would imply. Both George and Florence connect with the other on such a basic human level, sharing the highs and lows of their lives as only two intimately connected people can. It was very well done, and I enjoyed every page. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

As Lord George is out at the London docks looking for a courtesan little did he realize by running into Miss Florence would turn his world upside down. Miss Florence just wants one thing...go back home to Italy but that won't be easy to do with a riot just starting. Lord George and Florence soon find themselves taking refuge in a room along the docks and soon find their passion igniting for one another. With their one night of passion together will they find their happy ever after or will Florence return to Italy? Emily Murdoch has woven a unforgettable romance that brims with tension-building twists, remarkable emotions, characters that are well thought out that you find yourself drawn into their story and with a good plot! Lost with a Lord unfolds beautifully with drama, searing passion,  uncertainties and as the suspense escalates the desires builds and emotions abound that will keep you reading to the end and wishing for more!

Such a weird one...

This goes against every other book of the period... He's an anxious, depressed, lonely virgin, driven to find a courtesan to spice things up. Meets a woman at the dock--daughter of an Italian courtesan, of all things--and as they're set upon by rowdy drunks, hide out overnight and find what they think is true love.

Apparently, social class doesn't matter here, propriety doesn't matter, family feuds are instantly healed, and no one gives a fuck about what servants or the ton think.

Much as I'm weary of the reformed rake trope, I find this whiny alternative more so, and the speed this all happens is just silly. I do kind of feel sorry for her, though... The odds of him branching out from straight missionary sex (and a two-minute endurance) and discovering the joys of oral sex or even the idea of a clitoris seems unlikely.

This is a good story which reads easily and kept me glued to the pages throughout. Though it is relatively short it packs a lot into it.
I found this book quite different from Emily Murdoch's other stories and it is definitely more frisky than her others.
I loved that Florence Capria was such a strong character and ensured that she got what she wanted from George. I guess some guys need a gentle shove in the right direction from time to time (LOL!)
I am quite happy to recommend this as a very good read that will keep your attention and entertain you too and I for one am eagerly awaiting the other stories in this series.

A fairly short read, Lost with a Lord is about mistaken identities and potentially lost opportunities. When Lord George’s brother arranges an alliance with a lady of the night for his brother, Lord George finds himself in a very awkward situation indeed. Firstly he is in one of the worst areas of the London docks and secondly there is no young lady…… until there is. Only the young lady is not whom he thought she was and she gives him a strong scolding for thinking otherwise. There is humour and same danger in this story, but it is ultimately Miss Florence Capria who takes the reins in her hands and takes up the challenge. I enjoyed this sweet story and it filled an enjoyable gap. I received a copy of this book for free as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

The is a very entertaining read of two lonely souls. Lord George find himself in the docks of London at night searching for a female company his older brother told him about.
Florence is trying to find a ship to return to Italy, when George runs into her and almost deposits her into the Thames.
George is intrigued by the first beauty and when they are almost overtaken by a riot they take cover. While waiting on things to settle down they find themselves reveling things to each other that they would not have done with another soul.
They both must overcome insecurities to get what they want.

This is a very good read and Ms. Murdoch will not disappoint. I received this book for an honest review.

Excellent short read. Starts off a bit strange but that just serves to entice you into wondering about the second novel! Characters are well written, and you feel like you know them by the end of the story even though it’s so short. The interactions between the two before and after their interlude is realistic and believable, even for people who don’t believe in love at first sight. Which I suppose it wasn’t actually first sight, more like first night!

As an independent reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock, I give this book a full four hearts. As a short novel, it falls off the last heart since there simply wasn’t enough time to get fully enough attached to the characters to be emotionally involved. Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it highly!

3.5 stars. I'm rounding this one up to 4 because I just love how fiercely Florence goes after what she wants.

Florence is looking for a ship to take her back to Italy. George is at the docks to find a courtesan for the night. Instead, they bump into each other and then must escape a mob. They end up locked in a tiny room together and they share a lot more than they expected.

Honestly, Florence is definitely the best part of the book. George is a bit too defeatist for me, but at least he lets Florence take the lead and makes sure she consents to everything along the way. This is a short, fun read.

Thank you to Emily Murdoch for providing a copy of this book for review. All opinions are my own.

I think I would have enjoyed this book more if I had read it and not listened to the audiobook. Sadly I found the narrators voice very bland and when she was alternating between different roles, there wasn't much difference in how she talked.

The story itself was short and sweet with a little spice thrown in there.

Two lost souls happen upon each other and once they look past their differences they see each other very differently.

Forced Proxemity. Enemies to Lovers. Regency Romance.

It was a nice read but I think it needed beefing out a bit and more depth adding to the characters and storyline for it to be a better read.

I received an advanced copy and this is my honest review. This is a short story mainly with two characters chatting with each other as they wait for the mob to go home. I enjoyed getting to know George and Florence and watch as their attraction with each other grows. Really enjoyed the ending and would like to know more about George and his family. The author gives us a little tidbit about happened to the courtesan that George was suppose to meet, we will read more about her in the next book. Recommend this book to the over 18 readers.

An accidental collision on the docks of London, a near drowning, a riot, and a mob lead Lord George Northmere and Florence Carpia to find true love, but lose each other the next morning. Only through a lot of thought by both of them do they decide what is truly important for happiness. George and Florence and wonderful characters and this is a story others can enjoy. I look forward to the next book in this series. I received an advance reader copy of this book, which I have voluntarily reviewed and given my honest opinion.

George was the fourth son of a Duke and he was on the London docks looking for a Courtesan that his brother sent him to find, but what he actually found was Florence Capria the daughter of a Courtesan of Italy she decided that she didn't want to be like her mother so she had been away from home traveling when her mother died and she was on the same doc trying to find a ship to take her back home. She and George found themselves in a situation that they could not control. I voluntarily reviewed this book a gift from the author with no obligation.

I love this cover. It is very striking. The story was well written to a point, but the ending did not finish with acceptability of society. The only good point is the fourth son doesn't have all the social rules applied to him for marriage that is required for the first born. Florence is a spitfire and knows what she wants, that she wants George to want her to stay. She expects George to act like an Italian and George expects her to understand his English ways. Why do people forget that love is a two way communication? This story is great for an afternoon read.

Florence Capria is Italian, trying to find a ship to take her home. She almost falls into the Thames, being pushed by a man, an accident. Lord George Northmere, Fourth son of a duke, and so lonely. he feels no one wants him, not his parents, his siblings or even his friends. The characters were caring and giving and felt the attraction right away. The story has a few surprises, but keeps your interest and you can laugh, cry or just be happy. Excellent read, easy to follow and well written.

Sweet, endearing love story.

After first encountering the prequel in an anthology and never having read Murdoch's stories before I was pleasantly surprised just how much I enjoyed this quick read. I have come to love her spirited and strongly independent female characters and handsome and passionate (if emotionally tormented) male leads as a very welcome signature of hers.
Lost with a Lord is a heart warming love story with great leads, enjoyable banter and an emotional connection that kept me engaged and invested until the last page. Loved it!!

A very sweet and touching romance between Miss Florence Capria and Lord George Northmere. I loved the fact that even though they were ensconced in a dank room for shelter, running from a mob that was fighting on the docks, they managed to reach out to each other and bared their souls. It was touching how they confided in each other their honest feeling and their pasts. It was easy to identify with the characters as everyone I know has felt lost or lonely at least one time in their lives. A wonderful romance and I recommend it.
