Great for lovers of Sci-fi and Paranormal with elements of romance.
Susan McKenzie is an Australian author who loves to create worlds of fantasy and science fiction with adventure and intrigue and a big dose of healthy romance. Her books are full of interesting and relatable characters who use their psychic abilities or magical powers to fight their way out of trouble. She loves stories that hit you in the feels. She's not a typical author coffee addict - but chocolate? Now that's a different story. When she's not writing, she loves to paint, draw and play the guitar.
Tamisan by Susan McKenzie was an epic, action-packed, sci-fi fueled novel!
Action. Adventure. Sci-Fi. New Adult. Thriller. Suspense. Fantasy. Supernatural.
All of those terms can directly be applied to this magnificent novel by Susan McKenzie. Seriously, I didn't know what I was in for when I picked up this book! The synopsis makes this seem like just another fun, sci-fi novel yet it was so much more than I expected! Zhenna/Tamisan was a lovely character to follow along her absolutely insane journey and I can't wait to see more of her!
Zhenna is traveling to assist in some space science experiments when things go horribly wrong. She's the only survivor of her crew, but that's not the only thing wrong. Her soul has also been moved into the body of one of the gorgeous natives to the planet. This disturbing science experiment changes her life forever and sends her on a troubling journey in a foreign land. Slowly, she discovers the powers this woman held and all of the magic that goes along with being supernatural. Oh, and there's a little romance in store for her too!
This book had a lot packed into one book, and that's why the book is so good! But that is also the book's weak point - I felt like this book could have been split into two or three novels. I seriously loved every minute of it, but there's was just SO much. Most readers will be okay with this, since Susan delivers with a fast-paced and thrilling adventure, but some may not be as fond of it.
Whether you're looking for a fantastical book or a science fiction, this book is definitely worth the read. It has a lot of marketing potential with the various genres it holds inside. I like that it didn't just stick to one genre because it did make this book far more unique. If anything, I felt like I was most confused on which age group it should be marketed too. The genres was easy - it mixes fantasy with science fiction and thrills and suspense. There's so much in there! But at times it felt like it was moving close to an R rating (with potential rape scenes and some harsh violence) but then it slowed back down in the romance department and felt like a Young Adult novel. My best guess was it was going for New Adult and it seems to fit well there.
Overall, this book was one solid thrill ride! The positives of this book far outweigh the negatives and I'd highly recommend it! It's a little on the longer side but it's worth every word on every page!
Four out of five stars!

In a future universe, humans are cloned, then slightly genetically adapted to be somewhat dissimilar from their "originals." Zhenna is one of these, a clone, with no parents, no siblings. After training in computer programming at the Academy, she leaps at the opportunity to travel to "the Fringe," those edge-of-the-universe planets, where scientists are sent to explore. On one such planet, the shuttle develops issues, and it lands temporarily in the jungle instead of near the underground station. An attack by space pirates destroys the young scientists who traveled on the shuttle.
Zhenna wakes up three days later to find herself in a laboratory hospital, in the wrong body: the doctor explains she had actually died, but due to continued brain activity, her consciousness was transferred. What he doesn't realize is that the memories of the host are still active, as well as Zhenna's own memories, so now she has the schizoid experience of seeming to be two individuals.
This is appealing YA Science Fiction with characters who easily elicit empathy, a "mad scientist" up to no good (of course), tons of action, adventure, and gentle romance. TAMISAN is the first book in a Duology, followed by ENIGMA.
I’m having a hard time describing Susan McKenzie’s Tamisan, the first of her series by the sane name. I’m not going to even try to summarize the plot as I’d fill pages in the attempt, but the publisher’s blurb does a good enough job to give you a strong idea. Instead I will simply say that if you want something that’s highly imaginative, highly adventurous, highly suspenseful and just plain fun scifi then this is the book for you. Great world-building, great plot, a great lead character in Zhenna, and a great supporting cast of characters results in a book that is, well, great. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series
Since the book began with an action scene from the beginning, I was a little puzzled, because I didn't understand what was going on, but I am DEFINITELY glad I stuck with it. This book is one of my new favorites. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. It was a very intriguing and unique story line. I had such a hard time putting it down once I got into it.
This was such a great book! There is suspense, a little romance, and a high dosage of science fiction. I hated to put it down. I look forward to reading the next book.

I loved this story! Action Adventure on every page of the book! Zhenna is transferred into a planet natives body and Tamisan emerges. Jungle life is crazy and scary. The natives are not nice at all. You won't see then ending coming! Wow!
I was gifted an ARC in return of an honest review.
This book hooked me right away. Very interesting the way it was done. Lots of implications to think about in it. Will be reading the second one. Great imagination Susan!
This was a very entertaining book. I enjoyed the duality of the main character. The way she managed to adapt to the constant changes thrown at her and the frailty of her was captivating. An excellent read.
Would recommend for those who enjoy an action-packed Sci-Fi This is a nonstop action-packed read Zhenna, with a group of fellow specialists, is bound for planet Althar-3 when their journey is unexpectantly interrupted After being attacked Zhenna wakes to find she is no longer Zhenna but now Tamisan - her mind has been transferred to the body of one of the natives of the planet When secrets are uncovered and plots exposed Tamisan escapes the researchers in hopes of finding help - This is one fabulous adventure after another as Tamisan journeys through the wilds of planet Althar-3 Loved the world building, the events and the "people" she encounters along the way Strong character development - really enjoyed the details that made their personalities pop to life The storyline flows smoothly and easy to follow My copy of Tamisan was through Hidden Gems
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Although I enjoyed the story of this book, i did not care much for the characters. I couldn't stand Tamisan at all. She spent almost all of her time wallowing and dwelling over crap she couldn't change and couldn't get back. This book was very repetitive and I felt a lot of it could have been cut out. I did enjoy all the action in this book and enjoyed the world they were on.
First job after graduation. Leaving mundane Earth. What an adventure! Crash landing , destruction, and pain. Fear is rampant. So this book begins, and then there is the mad scientist. Anyway enjoyable book.
Enjoyed the beginning.Really started disliking The heroin.I enjoyed the new body and powers. Then had watch flail around not using them. And the constant winning and self analysis.Skipped headphone end missed Nothing !
4/5 STARS! First off, this book is addicting! I couldn’t put it down. Such a cool & unique plot. Interesting characters & world building. The plot is an adventure from start to end. This has everything you need for a bestseller! Amazing work. Only complaint is I felt it did drag a bit in the end, but nothing that kept me from loving it still. Ready for book 2 now!
