Kataoka Furuya Kanemaru
Eijun Sawamura is a funny character! Not only that he's full of life and determination, and he also has these hilarious and comic expressions that make me laugh so hard I felt like dying. I really adore the art style!! And the new kids are awesome and fun as well! I'm quite interested in the pinch pitcher though. I need to get to know him more!!
The first three volumes of Ace of the Diamond were just as good as the beginning episodes of the anime and brought back a lot of fond memories.
Eijun Sawarmura (mc) is a passionate boy who wears his heart on his sleeves. As loud as he is, Eijun’s high energy is infectious and draws others in. You can clearly see that in his interactions with his middle school friends. He’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer (and even less about baseball in general). But Eijun has raw potential and you immediately become invested in his desire to play baseball, his growth as an athlete, and his goal to become the ace of Seido High School’s varsity baseball team.
Baseball is one of my least favorite sports. I’d rather play it than watch it. However, Ace of the Diamond is an addicting series.
Seido’s baseball team has a lot of members – its freshmen count close to 100! The team is highly competitive and a prominent program. Their practices are grueling. To get one of the 20 sought after spots you have to work your ass off and then some every day.
All of the members are talented players who live and breathe baseball. Seido’s hard work brightly shows in the practices and games you get to see so far. Those illustrations were very cool, especially of the pitchers.
The passion and work ethic are admirable and you want Seido to succeed so badly and make it to Koshien Stadium where Nationals are held. It’s a lot of strong personalities working towards the same goal.
While there are a lot of serious moments throughout the story there are plenty of funny, light-hearted moments as you get to know the other main players/characters on the team. I enjoyed volumes 1-3 and can’t wait to continue this series.
Fun! I liked how the main character screws up all the time and has to build his way back up in the eyes of his coach, and how the side characters are memorably quirky and interesting.
Basically Seijun enters a new high school to play baseball at a high level, but he screws up his chances when he annoys the coach and fails a test to throw a ball a particular distance. Then, when the upperclassmen perform poorly at a game, coach gives the newbs a chance to play against the established team as a way to find talent among the scrubs, and Seijun gives his all to impress.
It's fun, with good art, and that's mostly what you need in a title like this. I wish it had some interesting female characters, though.
I for one don't really like sports, but I can't seem to get enough of Ace of the Diamond. So whether you like sports or not I would have to say Ace of the Diamond is a sports manga that you must read.
I love the character development especially the main character, Sawamura. He is a real delight and makes you laugh or cry depending on the challenge he faces.
This volume continued the story well. I'm properly into it now. Terajima introduces new characters, and makes you care more about the MC. Good stuff. 4 stars.
furuya!!! i love him very much :') the boy i root for. the burgeoning rivalries are fantastic. on this reread it's even more apparent that the title and theme interconnect: i believe eijun represents the ideal emotional personality of an ace, in that, his naivety combined with his pride, fortitude and possessiveness make him a befitting ace, whereas furuya's remarkable (yet still latent) proficiency and talent designates him as the pragmatically chosen/preferred ace
