My Royal Surrender by Riley Pine is the last story in the author duo’s Arrogant Heirs series and finally tells the story of the mysterious ‘X’ who has been a central figure in the series. You don’t have to have read previous books to enjoy this one as it stands alone well. It’s an action packed and kinky reunion romance!
There is a secret society, The Order, that is made up of members from all walks of life. Two of them, Agents ‘X’ and ‘Z’ have an interesting and complicated history. As their real selves, Max and Lora, they were lovers at the same boarding school, but both became involved with the order (unbeknownst to the other) and lost contact. Lora was the one to discover first that Max and ‘X’ were the same person, and initiated an affair three years earlier, but Max never realized who she was as he was blindfolded in all their encounters. Now though, they’ve been tasked to work on an assignment together. They must infiltrate a BDSM sex club run by Dante Prince, a notorious arms dealer with the goal of taking him down. Posing as a Dom with his sub is the easy part, as is engaging in a steamy affair. But can they accomplish their mission and maybe get a real HEA in the bargain?
It’s great to see an older couple featured in this story! They are both in their forties and have experienced many things in their lives, plus as secret agents they have undergone many challenging situations that require wit, intelligence, training and split second decisions. Both are strong characters and they clash often but this just leads to more passion between them. The sex scenes are hot (as expected, since some of them take place in the BDSM club). There are multiple secrets that get revealed as the story plays out, so it’s one surprise revelation after another, mixed in with action packed scenes and the couple finally revealing their true feelings for each other. Lora is getting tired of the spy life and is ready to retire, but Max will have to make some tough choices if they’re going to get their happy ever after. It’s a fun, sexy ride!
