Book 4 of Rose Pearson’s series of Standalone Regency Romance Stories, The Duke's Daughters. The youngest daughter of the Duke of Westbrook, Harmonia Seaworth is gentle, beautiful and sweet. She has never expected her life to be anything but ordinary and, as the last daughter left at Seaworth Manor, had thought it would consist of nothing more than caring for her ailing father and watching her sisters' children grow. Surely she wouldn’t be expected to find a husband before her father’s passing as well. But it seems her father’s dying wish to see his daughters married well before he passes extended to her too.Only, left on her own, she isn’t exactly the type to foster a social life helpful in finding a suitable husband. As always, her father, the Duke, is more than ready to see to things himself. Equally as common, as it seems for the Seaworth sisters, is that just as she relents to settle for the quickest and easiest match, the least likely suitor comes her way to make her feel things she never thought she could. Now, pursued by Luke Seaworth, a distant cousin, Harmonia finds herself inadvertently falling into the arms of Philip Marshal, the newly-instated Earl of Swansea. But can she trust Philip? Or is all that she has been told about him true? And what about her father's wish to see her wed to Luke? Could he really be as terrible as Philip says he is, or is Philip the real rake, out to take advantage of her and the possible passing of her wealthy dying father?“In the Arms of an Earl” is the 4th book in the Duke’s Daughter’s series. Each book is its own historical romance story with its own HEA and no cliffhangers. Read them all to see how each of the sisters find love in their own way.
Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother.
She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her.
She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.
On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!
Finding love as the youngest of four sisters is not as clear cut as the family believes. Harmonica Seaworth is to pick a groom or be picked as a bride by the end of the season. Her father is ill and wants all his daughters taken care. Lord Darnsley wants Harrmonia’s hand but he also wants her money. The new Earl of Swansea, Phillip Marshall discovers Lord Darnsley’s intentions but is Phillip trustworthy?? Will Lord Darnsley stop at nothing to obtain her hand? Is the Earl a rake? What will Harmonica do? The story was plotted out flawlessly. There were sub plots within the main plot and lots of twists and turns. The scenery of the various areas was described so vividly that the reader feels like they are right there. The characters are vivid, colorful and well defined. Will they be able to overcome what they face? This is book # 4 in the Duke’s Daughters series. It can be read as a stand alone. I volunteered to read In the Arms of an Earl. Thanks to Booksprout for the opportunity. My opinion is my own.
In the Arms of an Earl book 4 in The Duke's Daughters by Rose Pearson. I thought this was a good book, and I loved the main characters. My free opinion ARC. Thanks
Rose Pearson has brought us the fourth book in the well loved The Duke's Daughters series. We have come to know her as a special Regency Era author who produces well developed characters and a love story the reader does not want to put down! Her books are well written and she has a way of taking the reader to the heart of the Regency period by the way she works in the details of the social graces, fashions, events and the intrigue that always seemed to be a part of the era. Each book can be read as a standalone, but reading the whole series is a real treat.
This is Harmonia's story. We witness her transformation from a shy young lady into a confident married woman.
If you like Regency romance, you definitely want to read In the Arms of an Earl.
Harmonia rushed across the room to hug her oldest sister, Amelia. All three of her sisters had married and had children, so Harmonia found it very lonely with only her father, the Duke, to keep her company. The sisters discussed the upcoming Season where Harmonia would hopefully attract a suitor. Unfortunately, her cousin Luke continued to write to her that he was interested; but both sisters had discussed the fact that he was not a good choice. Amelia encouraged Harmonia, reciting her fine qualities that would surely attract a worthy gentleman. Then they went into town to shop for gowns for the upcoming balls.
Arriving at the ball, Amelia repeated to Harmonia that she was to avoid cousin Luke as much as possible. But as soon as they stepped in, he shouted her name and asked to sign her dance card for numerous dances. Amelia reminded him he was family and there were other gentlemen Harmonia may want to dance with. She specifically told him to not sign up for the waltz, but he defied her and did so anyway. Harmonia looked up and saw a handsome gentleman with gorgeous blue eyes looking at her and he smiled. Something about him just seemed to draw her to him. When he attempted to introduce himself, Luke pulled her away, loudly insisting that it was his turn to dance and he would not give that up.
Luke was pressuring Harmonia more and more, even going to her father and asking to court her. She and Amelia spoke to the Duke and told him that Harmonia did not want Luke in her life. Her father agreed with her wishes. But Luke was not done with her. He had a secret and his marriage to Harmonia would solve all of his problems. He would simply not take no for an answer! And in his desperation, he would do absolutely anything – no matter how deadly -- to get his way. Her dowry would be his! Lord Newford would not stand in his way!
I absolutely love this series! The author does such a wonderful job with such a straightforward story line! This book, like the previous ones, was wonderful to read. The dialog was good, and the main characters were very caring and supportive of each other. Lord Newford was so admirable that his character made Luke’s evil nature stand out even more. The reader cannot help but take sides and eagerly read on to see what will happen as Luke’s desperation becomes blatant. I can’t recommend this series enough – it has been wonderful to read and get to know this family.
Lady Harmonia is the last of her sisters to start her Season (though not fresh out of the schoolroom) and find a husband. Her father, the Duke of Westbrook, wants to see her married and well taken care of by the end of the season. He has not been doing well, and his girls are everything to him. But he will not make the mistake with his youngest he made with her older sisters, it was to be her pick, for love and joy. Luke, Lord Darnsley, a cousin of theirs, determined it would be he who would marry Lady Harmonia. He needed her dowry, his gambling, and other, debts were coming due and he was broke. He had spent the summer trying to woe her in letters, and she had been ready to give in. Her sisters stepped in and told her she deserved a full Season and not to make any hasty descions. And her father told her he wanted her happy, not just married to the first offer. Cousin Luke is not taking no for an answer, espeicially as he watches her fall in love with the newly titled Lord Phillip, Earl of Newford. It is a sweet romance, with a few stolen kisses, a shooting of an Earl, house arrest for our heroine, a kidnapping (or heiress napping), an challenged issue for a due…. Sigh, a lovely happy ever after. This book was delightfully written. Our hero is determined to save his love, protect her, and marry her, but he is not overbearing about it. Just story crafted to keep you turning the pages with a villain that you do not exactly hate, but seriously don’t like. I give it five stars, and look forwarded to more from Ms. Pearson.
This was the story of the youngest of 4 sisters, Harmonia Seaworth, and her season to pick a groom/be picked as a bride. Her cousin, Lord Darnsley, has made himself a nuisance in the past by monopolizing Harmonia. It is becoming increasingly obvious he intends to marry her, whether or not she wishes it. At the start of the season, he makes his intention clear to Harmonia, then her father. As it happens, she has seen, not yet officially met, Philip Marshall, a man that grabbed her attention. She is wanting to learn more about him as a person. No other males stand out to her during the season. Lord Darnsley has ulterior reasons for marrying Harmonia-he wants and needs her money. The story revolves around getting that information to th people concerned and then preventing Lord Hansley from forcing Harmonia to marry him. Philip Marshall finds out damning information about Lord Darnsley, and brings it to Harmonia and her sister’s attention. As Philip becomes more involved with Harmonia, Lord Darnsley becomes frantic and begins terrorizing Harmonia. Philip comes to the rescue again and again, as Darnsley’s sanity is lost, building to a peak with his dramatic kidnapping of Harmonia. S The characters are fairly well depicted, but the plot seems predictable. I would give it a 3.5, as it is a clean story with adequate composition skills. But the predictability lowered the score for me. It does have a HEA ending.
In the Arms of an Earl is the fourth book in Rose's "The Duke's Daughters" Series. The book's heroine is Harmonia Seaworth, the youngest daughter of the Duke of Westbrook.
As the last daughter in the Duke's household, Harmonia felt she would be the one to take care of her sickly father, destined to be unwed the rest of her life. Her only alternative was to wed her distant cousin, Luke Seaworth, who seemed very eager to wed Harmonia. It was the Duke's wish to see Harmonia married before his passing, and it seemed that inevitably would be to Luke.
That is until Harmonia literally falls into the arms of Philip Marshall, the Earl of Swansea, who had just arrived into London town.
I received a free copy of the book as an ARC. And I am so glad I did!! This is the first book I have read by Rose, and it will not be the last. Her writing blends great visual style along with just the right flavor of language for the historical period without being overly so. She combines romance with suspense, and excellent character development that makes the reader want to know more about the people.
I highly recommend this book!! It is a fast read and entices the reader to turn the page to see what happens next. Enjoy!!📖
4. In the Arms of an Earl 3 Stars I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance In the Arms of an Earl in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson, and this review was given freely. A lengthy instant attraction romance that is filled with violence. Obsessed, desperate, and indebted, Harmonia’s cousin Luke becomes violent in his multiple attempts to separate Harmonia from Phillip Marshal the new Earl of Newford and thus marry her himself. 5. The Reluctant Marquess: The Series Prequel 4 Stars I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance The Reluctant Marquess: The Series Prequel in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson and this review was given freely. Not what I was expecting given the rest of the series. I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of violence and by the checkered past of Lord Seaworth, the future Duke of Westbrook, in this lengthy reformation of a rogue romance. My curiosity was finally satisfied as I learned the reason behind the daughter’s names. Under his brother’s supervision, the carefree and indulgent Lord Seaworth is pulled from his life of overindulgence to chaperone family friend, Miss Newton’s first Season in London.
In the Arms of an Earl by Rose Pearson is the 4th book in the Duke's Daughters series. It tells the story of the Duke's youngest daughter, Harmonia. With Harmonia's three older sisters marries and her father in ill health, she is faced with the dilemma as to whether she should marry her cousin, Luke, whom she does not feel any affection toward or should she look to the coming "season" and possibly find someone that she can truly love. Her sister's were fortunate to be able to find happiness, so why not at least try. Luke was not for her.
There is a lot more going on with Luke that what originally seems to be. Can the mysterious blue eyed handsome stranger be someone Harmonia could love.
This book is filled with suspense, and it had me turning pages to find out what would happen next. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I received it as a gift and I always review every book that I read. I highly recommend it.
In the Arms of an Earl is book 4 in The Duke's Daughter's series. This book focuses on the youngest daughter, Harmonia. Harmonia is getting ready to attend her first season. Her cousin, Luke, has been corresponding with her and expects Harmonia to marry him. But when Harmonia meets Philip Marshal, Earl of Swansea she begins to think twice about marrying for convenience. Phillip is also attending the season and hoping for a wife. He is immediately drawn to Harmonia because she is unlike all of the other women of the ton that he has met. The two begin to have feelings for one another but Luke is determined to make Harmonia his. Luke's motives are less than honorable. When that comes to light, Luke becomes more desperate. How far will Luke go to get Harmonia to marry him and how will Phillip respond to Luke interfering in his courtship with Harmonia.
In the Arms of an Earl was face paced and really held my attention. I loved the whole series.
ONE FANTASTIC READ!!! If you're looking for a fast paced, easy to follow, dangerous, suspenseful, nailbiting, smooth flowing read that captures your attention from the start. Congratulations my friends you've found it. Lady Rose has the unique ability to catapult us back through time to the regency era. The characters and scenes were realistic and believable. With such amazing detailed descriptions that brought the read to life before my eyes. My only focus on the pages as well as on the edge of my seat. I followed the characters along as their personalities transformed and blended. Twists and turns abound with nerve racking ferocity. Unexpected surprises lurked around every corner. Lady Rose's talent seem effortless and endless as she pulls us into the world she created. A phenomenal job Lady Rose. Thank you for sharing.
Intriguing story line, filled with suspense, romance, and even danger! Harmonia, the last of the Duke’s daughters, is urged to find her husband, this Season. She is nervous about her cousin Luke not believing her, when she tells him that she is not interested in courting. Her oldest sister, Amelia, is attends the Season with her, and helps her prepare for it. The first ball she attends, she notices someone, only to have Luke rudely interrupt her chance to be introduced to the new man. This book quickly builds with light to moderate suspense, and creates amazing scenes with in it of romance, intrigue, and danger. The author has finished the series with the strongest descriptions, characters’ personalities, and romance of all of them, so far! I recommend you read this; and, watch for other books from this author!
This book is the newest of the Duke's Daughters series. Each one has been so enjoyable to read. (I wonder if the writer will consider finding the Duke a new love interest, as well, now that his daughters have all wandered through the marriage mart. That would be great!) Daughter #4 has been content to enjoy the debutante world through her sisters' whirlwind romances with all their ups and downs. Harmonia considers herself a quiet mouse of a girl, not realizing that she is lovely, talented, intelligent, and quite as popular as any of her older sisters. She seems to be resigned that she'll marry her distant cousin, who is in fact, heir to her father's title, as the Duke has no sons. Her attitude seems to be, "enjoy the season; there'll be plenty of time to marry later." Well, that may be true, but her cousin, Luke, has different plans. And what about the new guy on the scene? Wonderful book. I couldn't put it down. Thanks Ms Pearson, for a very good read!

I enjoyed this book much more that the last one. I liked the romance was more visible here. Harmonia was a sweet and shy heroine, she has some moments of self-doubt but she stood up for herself whenever necessary. As with the previous book, I loved the relationship between the sisters, I’d have love to see the rest of the sisters in this history but Amanda was great and really supportive of Harmonia, a bit of a badass defending her from their cousin. Phillip was a terrific hero, I was kind of worried that he’ll be the typical hero who'll denied his felling till the end, but he didn’t. Once he realize he liked Harmonia, Phillip start to pursue her. He was kind, gallant and sweet, just perfect for Harmonia. I love the book and I’ll b looking forward to anything Rose Pearson write. I received this book as an arc through Booksprout, and am voluntarily sharing my thoughts on this book. I have read several books now by Rose Pearson, and really enjoy her stories, as well as her wonderful characters. I met Harmonia, the youngest Seaworth sister a few books back, and really like the family love and involvement in this series. Besides the characters, romance, intrigue and deception, I loved seeing how Harmonia learned to stand up for herself. Between her growing love for Phillip, her sister, Amelia’s encouragement, and her father’s and Phillip’s faith in her, she began to realize her own worth, and that she truly deserved happiness also. She then surprised even herself, I think, with her determination to stand up for herself, instead of just letting life happen to her, as she had allowed herself to become accustomed to doing.
Harmonica was always meant to be the daughter who remained home to manage the house and look after her father in his later years. A situation that seemed custom made for her until her father decided that before he died, he wished to see ALL his daughters settled in marriages. Unfortunately, having always thought she'd be a spinster, Harmonia never sought society or to meet potential husbands, so when her cousin, a man who's company she can not abide, seeks to court her, Harmonia is unsure of what to do. Her father sees no problem with her awful cousin, so is likely to invite him to dine with the family or in other ways accommodate his desire to court. When Phillip spears on the scene, things begin to change. But can they change quickly enough to give our heroine a second option? A wonderful story. Enjoy the fast paced tale!
This is a charming, gentle, sweet book - my 2nd from Rose Pearson. The main characters are very likeable and the plot is interesting. My main problem was with the writing style. The grammar was correct, but it felt that there was too much "telling"; i.e., too much explanation of how the characters felt even when it was already obvious from their reactions. That meant my attention was continually being drawn to the narration, which took away from the immediacy and the "realness" of the characters - so that even when exciting things were happening I felt emotionally distanced. But nevertheless it is a sweet book and worth the read. :)

'In the Arms of an Earl' by Rose Pearson is the fourth book in the Duke's Daughter's series. Harmonia is the youngest of the Duke of Westbrook's daughters, and he expects her to wed - before he passes on, - just like her sisters before her. The book does not disappoint. It is a well written story and an engaging, light hearted and captivating read. The plot is well thought out, the characters are well defined and believable, the family dynamics are interesting and there is also a villain who, in the end, gets what he deserves. The scenes and settings are described in a realistic manner and there is suspense, intrigue, some action and danger. A must for readers who love Regency romances. Gifted with a copy via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The book relates to Harmonia, the youngest daughter of the Duke of Westbrook, who is in search of a husband before the season ends. The Duke’s wish is to see his last daughter secure and happily married. Luke, a cousin, has convinced himself that they will marry and her dowry will save him from his creditors. Harmonia, who is unaware of Luke’s debt does not wish to marry him but seems unable to get him to accept her decision. In the meantime she meets and falls in love with Philip. There is an attempted murder and later a kidnapping occurring in the book. This is a very well written story that is quite enjoyable. I would highly recommend the book.
Harmonia, the youngest of the Duke’s daughters, is having her Season and with encouragement from her oldest sister, Amelia, is looking for a loving husband. However, her relation, Luke is still planning to be her suitor. Harmonia has always been the quiet, dutiful daughter and Luke believes she will suit him. At an event Harmonia meets Philip Marshal, Earl of Newford. They have an instant attraction and Harmonia feels hopeful she may have a marriage like her sisters. However, there are forces at work intent on stopping this relationship. This was an enjoyable read, it emphasises how importantly was to have a close and supportive family. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Harmonia is the shy daughter in the family and the last one on the search for a husband. Her cousin Luke is determined she will wed him, but when Harmonia meets Phillip at a ball, sparks fly. Will Luke accept defeat or has he something else in store? I think this is my favourite book of the series, I couldn’t put it down. Such fantastic descriptions of the balls, the theatre, London society, you actual feel that you are there with the main characters and experiencing everything as it happens. Rose has a wonderful way with words and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
“In the Arms of an Earl” by Rose Pearson is a sweet novel set in London during Harmonia’s season. Her married sister Amelia returns to her father’s London home to chaperone Harmonia during her season. Although Harmonia is doggedly pursued by their cousin Luke, she shows very little interest in him. Instead her interest is captured by a blue-eyed stranger named Phillip Newford. Fortunately, he is just as interested in her. But Luke just won’t give up and goes to terrible extremes to keep the two from being together. This is a clean romance set in Victorian England. I would recommend this to any lovers of books from this era.
This the fourth book in the series, and I must say Harmonia is probably the most sensible one. Of course, she knows what her other sisters have gone through and she holds out for love. She finds she doesn't like her feelings or what she wants run over like her cousin Luke has been doing. She wants a man that cares about her. The picture on the book does not do the Earl of Swansea justice. I can't imagine that man on horseback searching the streets for a carriage before it leaves London. I can imagine a woman who finds strength in herself to stand against the tyranny of an evil bully. I think this story is the most well-written story of the four books.
This was a delightful and suspense filled read. Lady Harmonia was the final daughter of the Duke of Westbrook to have her “season”. Her distant cousin Lord Darnsley is still determined to force her to wed him, even though he has been told repeatedly, that she has no interest. In this story, his true character and situation is revealed, and as Harmonia meets Lord Phillip Newford, his actions become more threatening and desperate. This one will keep you reading to see what will happen next. Full of suspense, love and and honor.

Harmonia Seaworth only ever expected an ordinary life as the fourth and youngest daughter of the Duke of Westbrook. She thought she would care for her aging father and watch her sisters’ children grow. At one time she was willing to settle for a distant cousin, Luke, but her sisters had talked her out of it and she realized that he would not bring her happiness. But Luke wants her and goes to great lengths to get her.
Then Philip Marshal comes into the picture. Who will win Harmonia’s devotion? What dangers will have to be gotten through before there is lasting happiness for her?

This is the last book of this series and I’m going to miss reading more about these sisters. I enjoyed this story as much as the first three. I felt for Harmonia as she tries to decide who the best man is to be her husband—Phillip Marshal, Earl of Newford, or her cousin, Luke Darnsley. There are enough twists, turns and suspense to keep you guessing what will happen next. I would certainly recommend this book, as well as the other books in this series, to everyone who enjoys clean, Regency romances with wonderful characters. I received an advance reader copy of this book. I have voluntarily reviewed it and given my honest opinion.
In the Arms of an Earl is the fourth book in "The Duke's Daughters" Series but it was my first of Rose Pearson's books. The Book can be read as a standalone and I hadn't any problem with the story. Actually I loved it and I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.
It was a very enjoyable, clean romance and very hard to put down. I loved the sweet and caring harmonia and hated her cousin Luke so much!

This is a fast paced, suspenseful and romantic story. Phillip is caring, chivalrous and charming. Honoria is quiet, sweet and naive. It's love at first sight for both when their eyes meet across a dance floor. But Honoria has a cousin who is determined to have her. And gets more desperate the longer she tells him no. Things get dangerous after Honoria throws him out of her life. This is a book that captures your attention and is hard to put down. It should be added to your TBR list. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
Lovely romance. But it is not a relaxed read. You keep on edge because of a worry what the crazy rejected cousin might do... I have not (yet) read the first 3 books in this serie, but that was no problem. I could still enjoy the story very well. For me Amelia was 'just' the big sister, but for readers who have read her story it probably is a delight to see her again. If only as a side character. I'm looking forward to reading her and her sisters stories as well.
