We live in a time of remarkable discovery. The world of quantum physics is revealing that the sub-atomic, “energetic” level of creation relates directly to our health both physically and emotionally. Rapid and effective healing treatments of many kinds have arisen out of this discovery but they have been developed from a new age worldview. Subsequently, these advances have been considered off limits for the Christian community. But the Splankna Therapy Institute is changing that.
In this groundbreaking book Sarah J. Thiessen teaches us how to think redemptively in our current healing culture. Grounded in scripture, she walks the reader through the two main arguments against the Christian’s use of energy healing new age and witchcraft. She leaves the reader with new clarity and empowerment.
The energetic level of creation belongs to God. It’s time He got the credit for it.
“Being open to discover creative, non-conventional ideas and methods of healing is like discovering the earth is round when the predominate belief states it is flat. Read this book with an open, thoughtful, prayerful mind and heart to discover new understandings of holistic Christian healing.”
Dr. Eddie Parish, L.MFT, Parish Hermitage Inc., LA
Fascinating book. The author combines science and a solid biblical perspective toward healing. I love the redemption theme throughout the book.
For those conservative Christians who may have heard of Splankna, and are worried about the New Age factor, this book addresses those concerns head on, as the author herself explains her own journey through these exact concerns.
An uplifting, engaging book, that not not only intrigued me for its scientific purposes, but also encouraged me on a biblical, spiritual level as well.
Interesting information on energy healing from a Christian perspective. Thiessen devotes a majority of the book to the theology backing this form of therapy, arguing that it is fundamentally different from New Age and witchcraft, although it might appear to have similar methods. She claims this form of therapy has been incredibly effective for healing mental and physical traumas—in some cases healing issues in one session, whereas counseling can take years. Definitely thought-provoking.
Great book. Intriguing from the beginning and especially the section on witchcraft. Splankna is a redemptive healing therapy that should be investigated by Christians. This book is based on Jesus Christ as our healer. Very good read.
I read this book in preparation for the Splankna therapy I was about to receive. It was very helpful in reminding me how real the power of prayer is. It triggered in me a desire to be more prayerful alone with God and with my children. This book was the beginning of a shift in me toward believing in the power of prayer more than I ever have. Also, Splankna is amazing and life changing.
4.5 rounded up. Fascinating book with a thorough and easily understood breakdown of the neuro-emotional psychology of Splankna. The author covered not just the how, why, and what of Splankna, but she also gave great arguments in defense of it for people of faith who have honest hesitations about energy psychologies. She discusses her in-depth research of Reiki, Wicca, and New Age spirituality, and what she believes separates Splankna from these practices.
There were a few random opinions I didn’t agree with, but they didn’t have anything to do with Splankna, and didn’t impact the message of the book.
I do see a possible danger in the practice of Splankna, in how it could be used in a spiritually abusive way to blame any physical or mental health problems on unaddressed or unconfessed sin, or spiritual warfare.
Other than these two issues, I really enjoyed the book and learned a lot. I’m interested in continuing to learn more about Splankna.
This was such a breath of fresh air in the world of energy healing. This was written to defend it for the redemption of the kingdom, and I could not agree more.
I have had several friends question my reading choices lately, and I am so grateful for them and their loving concern--so good to have friends who will check on you and challenge you at the same time.
That being said, there were several quotes in this book, that resonated deeply with me, and is why I continue to be drawn to this line of thinking--despite many of the new age philosophies you have to wade through to get to the core of it. I share them in full below:
"We think that by huddling together in the safe zone of Christian culture, we have done our job. Now we just try to hold it together until we're rescued. The world discovers something miraculous in God's creation; all we can do is cover our ears in the name of holiness. We were never intended to live on the defense. The gates of hell shall not prevail against us. It is not only our privilege, but our responsibility to be on the offense in our culture. It is our birthright to forge out into the world and proclaim all things HIS. Science uncovers something new and the enemy jumps on it with his definition and stamp of ownership, and we are nowhere to be found. He has no competition. Why do you think he is so quick to claim it? It is not accidental that tools like these are so prospered by his camp. They are powerful. The enemy uses them because they work. They work because God created them to.

It is for very good reason that Christians write off energy psychology as new age. It is not an unfounded accusation. They are right. As a field, and in its philosophical underpinnings, it is almost entirely swallowed in new age views. The problem comes in the Christian's assumption that everything new age is false and therefore the whole "energy" concept must be evil by association.
We respond to new age assertions as if we're hunkered down with our eyes closed and our fingers in our ears crying, "that's all evil" rather than getting hold of ourselves and remembering that we are the children of the Creator of the Universe and that nothing observable in creation is inherently evil. Do we really believe we have discovered all there is to know about creation? Couldn't we still be surprised?
and...
Anytime we come from a position of fear, we embarrass Him. All things are HIS. Because we know that and know Him, we should be the FIRST to push the envelope, the boldest in discovery, and the loudest to shout out the mysteries and wonders of His inexhaustible creation.
I couldn't recommend this book more for anyone wondering how to reconcile energy work, speaking the word with intention, etc., with your Christian worldview. She covers new age thought, witchcraft, pantheism, and so much more. I was really taken with how many biblical examples she has of energy work, or even what some what might label witchcraft...it all depends on who you are worshipping, and what your heart posture is as you practice it. Again, highly recommend!!
Fabulous! The danger lies in the space between observation and conclusion, not in the practices themselves.
This book does a terrific job breaking down the philosophies of new age and occult so we can more easily recognize them to separate the ideologies from the practices; it unmuddies the waters of energy healing (like muscle testing, mind-body work, quantum reality and our ability to shape it) and frees believers to embrace the principles and truths at work, redeeming what God created in the first place. The overarching conclusion is that Satan is incapable of creating anything, the for all the principles, tequniques, and practices of new age healing methodologies are simple stollen from what God created, and He Himself declared His creation "good", so nothing found in nature is inherently bad. What distinguishes new age use of these ideas and techniques from a believer is the issue of Lordship, whether we conclude that WE are gods or the universe is god or whether we partner with a knowable, personal God who has given us astounding elevation and wild license for the sake of intimacy; a God who is found in and holds everything together, yet is separate and above the realm of His creation.
Clarifying, freeing, encouraging, and inspiring.
NOTE: The author makes a point about child sacrifice and that God sacrificed His own Son, this statement feels really icky to me and I disagree. Jesus went *willingly* to the cross, big difference. There are a couple other minor statements that I disagree with because I don't adhere to Penal Substitution atonement theory, but that was not the scope and purpose of this book.
I read this book because it was a heartfelt gift, but the content is far from biblical Christianity. In Christianity we have no power to redeem practices that are esoteric and occult. The redemption and healing sought by the practices outlined in the book are found only in being obedient to God’s Word and letting His secret will continue to be none of our business, while we are busy being obedient to His revealed will. The issues of emotional and mental healing and suffering, deserve discussion, but this book will only lead to further suffering and ultimately draw one away from ultimate healing in Christ.
There are many inconsistencies and fallacies within the book. A lot of conclusions are drawn from a misunderstanding of the scientific frontier of quantum physics, as well as a misunderstanding of metaphysics. IMO the author really doesn’t even understand or appropriately characterize the practices of energy healing.
Weird name, fascinating book. The author explains the world of energy and energy healing, then argues for why Christians should understand and utilize energy healing. I found the chapters explaining energy, energy healing, New Age, and witchcraft all especially helpful, and I appreciated the author’s take on why Christians should rethink energy healing. Definitely worth a read.
Thiessen does an excellent job of describing energy healing and providing background and context from a Christian perspective. Lots to like in this work, I especially like how she focuses on Lordship and perspective. Her description of observation versus conclusion is helpful when critics want to lump this in with new age or witchcraft.
I found this book super fascinating and was particularly impressed with the strong theological perspectives offered. I think when we hear the word energy we immediately thing new age. She did an amazing job really comparing and contrasting the new age and biblical sides. The science parts were a bit uber my head but I enjoyed attempting to understand. I will likely read again!
Read this as research after a well-meaning person suggested it for a member of our family. It is completely unbiblical. The author's intention to combat "common arguments" from the Christian community are not based in scripture and therefore, do not prove the point she believes she is making. Always good to see what type of thinking and false teaching is out there, though.
Don't just read it because you plan on going to therapy. Read it because the depths of which you need to understand Christianity are often not discussed. This book does a fabulous job of helping you to recognize your role in the Kingdom and The Warrior you were called to be.
I was a little disappointed that less than 10 pages at the end of the book actually explain what Splankna is. The rest of the book analyzes a number of energy psychology methods that could or could not be considered un-Christian. If you can get through the 130 + pages of analysis ( or enjoy that type of reading) it may be worth a read.
Just what I stand for BOLDNESS and TRUTH... We as Christians fear being bold a ambassador in chains breaking loose to stand on the front line. Speak the “TRUTH” and shame the enemy. Great book👋🏽
What a beautiful challenge to every Christ follower to take a redemptive posture in all of creation. Thank you, Sarah, for your obedience and fervor to see the Kingdom of God advanced in every way!
Thiessen does an excellent job of explaining what Splankna and energy therapy is/are and in distinguishing it from New Age practices. I can't wait to see it in person!
After reading the introduction of the book, I could not help but see where she went with her topic; I'm glad I did. To courageously admit that "I was never going to be this person" and then write an entire book about one's journey to that very 'person' is tremendously transparent and certainly a gift of one's heart. I respect that. Hats off to Sarah, for stepping up and sharing her exploration of the edges of the envelope in this topic and her view of the heart of God on it. "This is a call to the Christian community to redeem the world of quantum energy and it's applications for the Kingdom of God and a blueprint for how to go about it." Wow, what a bold and courageous statement of hope and faith. I will read her second book as I'm sure it will resonate as much as this one did with me. If you've ever read Dr. Henry Wright's book, "Exposing the Spiritual Roots of Disease" or any other book written with alternative health modalities as it's core, this is yet another one for your bookshelf! I gave it four stars, not because I think it lacked anything, but rather as in keeping with my own internal and very personal 5-star rating mechanism.
I've been getting these treatments for a few months and am stunned by the deep full effectiveness of them. God has given us an amazing tool for spiritual and physical wellness. My husband and I are going to a 3-day Splankna seminar this weekend and I read this book in preparation for it. It's the most spiritually eye opening thing I've read apart from Scripture in 30 years. Quantum physics on a practical level.
i wish there was a bit more science and info on the quantum physics as to why it works. it spent a lot of time talking about how conclusion is the difference between splankna and “new age beliefs” but that same logic could be applied to a lot of the things that the book calls “wrong” so in that sense it is a bit ironic and contradictory. i enjoyed the different perspective on energy healing
