5 books2 followersA. K. Lohithadas was an Indian screenwriter, playwright, director, and producer known for his extensive work in Malayalam cinema. Lohithadas was known for his rich, detailed, and realistic screenplays. In a career spanning over two decades, his films have won a National Film Award, 6 Kerala State Film Awards, and 14 Kerala Film Critics Award for Best Script.
Lohithadas was introduced to K. G. George by actor Thilakan. It did not help Lohithadas to start a career in Malayalam cinema. But it was K. G. George who gave the basic core idea of the story, later which was developed by Lohithadas to make the film Kireedam. Later, Thilakan introduced Lohithadas to director Sibi Malayil when Sibi was searching for a good writer for his films. Thus Lohi's first movie screenplay Thaniavarthanam was directed by Malayil and became a success. Together, Sibi Malayil and Lohithadas later produced several memorable Malayalam movies.

One of the best screenplays. It’s the ease with which Lohitadas is able to deliver the lived experiences and social conditioning of the characters through the dialogues especially.
Achu is a character who is both proud of being from the fishermen’s community but is ashamed enough at the same time to advise his daughter that it is okay to not identify him in college crowd if he arrives shabby. Kochu Raman’s essential quality of being content with anything is also which makes him blind to the class differences that education could bring.
It’s the nuances with which he is able to tightly pack a simple story. Brevity is the soul of wit but brevity and vaccum should not be confused. Lohitadas definitely was one of the master storytellers who knew how to tightly pack the narrative with subtleties and layers and later unpack with utmost grace and devastating punch.
