If You Love Me, I'm Yours

Rate this book
‘If you love me, I’m yours…’

Maud didn’t mind being boring, not really. She had a sensible job, clothes, and love life… if you counted an overbearing ex who had thanked her, rolled over and was snoring before she even realised he’d begun! She could tolerate not fulfilling her dreams, if her parents would pay her one compliment about the only thing she was passionate about in her art.

Dot should have fit in with her flamboyant and slightly eccentric family of talented artists, but somehow, she was an anomaly who couldn’t paint. She tried hard to be part of their world by becoming an art agent extraordinaire, but she dreamed of finding her own voice.

Dot’s brother Nate, a smoulderingly sexy and famous artist, was adored by everyone. His creative talent left them in awe of his ability to capture such passion on canvas. Women worshipped him, and even Dot’s friend Maud flushed and bumped into things when he walked into a room, but a tragic event in his past had left him emotionally and physically scarred, and reluctant to face the world again.

Someone was leaving exquisite little paintings on park benches, with a tag saying, ‘If you love me, I’m yours’. The art was so fresh and cutting-edge, that it generated a media frenzy and a scramble to discover where the mystery artist could be hiding. The revelation of who the prodigious artist was interlinked Maud, Dot and Nate’s lives forever, but their worlds came crashing down.

Were bonds of friendship, love and loyalty strong enough to withstand fame, success and scandal?

4☆ A Wonderful Journey of Self Discovery and Art

If you love me, I’m yours is a wonderful story of finding oneself, expression through art, friendship and family, with a dash of romance and humour.

First of all I want to say how much I love the Cover. It really is cute and light.

Maud's passion is art. She is talented and her love for art just shines through. However her family do not agree with her becoming an artist. Maud isn't the most confident person and she doesn't come across as being content with her life at the moment.

Dot comes from a family of artists. However Dot just hasn't got the natural talent the rest of her family has.
Including her brother Nate.
Nate has a passion for art.

Dot and Maud become really good friends. However Maud has a crush on Nate. He makes her go weak. But does he feel the same?

Lizzie took me on a journey of self discovery with Maud as she grows and learns to become more confident, stronger and learns to accept herself. It was inspiring as I don't normally appreciate how much art can help someone grow.

Although Maud and Nate clearly have a connection it really isn't about a love story. It focuses more on change and acceptance.
Nate is just as flawed as Maud but together they work.

Although the pace was slower it flowed really well.
The characters were developed really well and the plot was intriguing and held my attention.
There was some great witty humour, some emotional points and a little mystery.

If you love art, Romance, books about self discovery, friendship and humour then you will really enjoy this light warm read.

This is the second book I have read by Lizzie both very different, both very good.
I am really looking forward to reading more from her.

Thank you to Rachel Random Resources for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

4 Lovely Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This was a delightful lighthearted story filled with wonderful characters... another charming quirky book set in the UK... I really do adore these books!

This is a book about friendship, love, and discovering who you really are.... Maud is a talented artist, but her parents do not approve... I really liked her and I loved how she went about getting her art discovered...Dot feels as though she is the only non-creative person in her family of artists... The girls form a lovely friendship along with a third friend... Maud and Dot really balanced out one another well... and in doing so taught each other something about themselves...

There is also some romance in this book although it plays a backseat to self discovery.... Dot has a dark brooding brother Nate... The romance between Maud end Nate was slow Burning... extremely slow burning... but I felt as though that worked perfectly for this book...

The perfect book to read at the beach or pool side, absolutely recommend!

*** many thanks to the author and Rachel atRachel’s Randomde Resources for my copy of this book ***

Maud's life has been overly controlled by her staid parents. With a perfect, dust-free home, Maud's mother has always regarded her love of painting as an inconvenience. Neither of her parents have ever encouraged her artistic tendencies and have steered Maud to a sensible job, a sensible house and a bit of a boring life with the result that she lacks confidence in herself. She even dresses down as befits a teaching assistant. Life - and Maud - is bland. Thank goodness for her art, even if she doubts herself.

Dot comes from a very arty family; indeed her parents and sibling are famous whilst her own artistic attempts fall wide of the mark. However, she is very successful at managing the careers of her nearest and dearest and it is a major showing of her brother's work that she first crosses paths with Maud. This sets the scene for what's to come.

An absorbing novel, this encompasses family, friends, mystery, romance and oh, so much more. It all adds up to a beautifully written story which completely enslaves the reader and allows us to bury ourselves in the lives of these marvellously created characters. Lizzie Chantree has a wonderful style of writing which draws the reader in and almost makes you a part of the story. Even if I wanted to, I could find nothing to criticise; from the stunning cover to the final page, the writing has drawn me in and made me a part of Maud and Dot's world and I have loved every moment. A splendid read and one which I'm more than happy to recommend.

My thanks to Rachel's Random Resources for providing my copy. This is my honest, original and unbiased review.

4.5 stars.

I’m thrilled to be part of Lizzie Chantree’s blog tour for her latest novel: If You Love Me I’m Yours.
Thank you to Lizzie Chantree for an ARC copy of If you Love Me, I’m Yours.
Please note: Receiving a copy via the author in no way influences my review.

I was delighted with the prospect of reading another novel from Lizzie Chantree as I really enjoyed Ninja School Mum. Here is a link to my review for Ninja School Mum: https://mjmallon.com/2018/01/07/abrsc...

What I didn’t expect was that this latest book If You Love Me I’m Yours is now my favourite!

What did I like about it?
Lovely engaging characters, I especially loved the main protagonist Maud and her relationship with Daisy and new friend Dot. And Nate is too cute and his brother Elliot is too! Oh, I could go on and on… Basically I loved all the characters and the characterisation was one of the strongest aspects of this novel.
It was nice to read a light-hearted romance for a change. And I really enjoyed the fantastic conclusion. Loved the ending!
I engaged with the art aspect to it – how Maud didn’t have much confidence about her creative talents – but then left her art everywhere for people to enjoy. This was charming and touching too. I’m not an artist myself but do enjoy funky, eccentric characters and If you Love Me I’m Yours really delivered on this.
It’s an uplifting, sweet romance – a great option for a holiday read and with summer upon us…
What I wanted more of!
I loved the sexy scenes between Maud and Nate but I wanted more! I’m greedy that way. This was quite a slow burn with Maud and Nate’s uncertainties and fears, holding back the ‘love action’ which had me desperate for more! I could understand why they were both reluctant but even so. Lol.
Overall a charming, engaging novel which will bring you lots of smiles! Definitely a recommendation.

This is a slow build-up romance. The main character Maud is a painter but because of her parents she lacks the confidence in herself. Dot is from a family of artist but she does not have any skills so she feels like she don’t fit in with her family. Finally Nate who is Dot’s brother who is a famous artist who has physical and emotional scars.

Overall the story was ok. I felt like the story had a great promise but it was missing something. I just felt like I could not relate to the characters. All of the main characters were constantly complaining about something or lying to each other. There is a HEA but it felt like it was rushed. I almost did not finish the story because it was slow moving and jumped all over the place.

I was given an advance copy of this book for my honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this slightly quirky romance. It did not always follow the classic format, the characters were believable, slightly flawed and were not always nice to each other. The descriptive writing was wonderful. I simply wanted to jump into each of the scenes as they were described and I certainly covet a pair of shoes with red roses on the heels. I include no spoilers but it was a perfect holiday read for me. I will definitely be exploring more of this author's work.

A very disappointing read. Heavy on narration, unrelatable and immature characters, and a plot with no magic at all. My first and last by this author.

Right, let me just get this out of the way first - I did find myself struggling with the first thirty percent of the book as I couldn't seem to find the all important 'hook'. However, I have never known a book to go from an 'okay read' to a 'finishing the book with the smile' type of read, as quickly as this one did. And by golly it did! There are a lot of characters to keep track of in 'If You Love Me, I'm Yours', especially as they all seem to mould together throughout the storyline due to how each of them are linked. I didn't get confused, but I did find it hard to remember who was who and where they fit in.

Once the story went over 30%, it was as though the characters came alive and the author got comfortable with her story, believing in herself and what she was trying to convey to her readers. I loved how completely black and white Maud and Dot were, as it highlighted the different walks of life we come across in our own lives, and how it is perfectly okay to be different. I realised that the story also highlighted how important it is to believe in yourself, and to try not to conform to other people's perceptions when it comes to what you wear, or where you work. I thought that Lizzie Chantree did a brilliant job of putting that message across in her storyline. It is such an important message, yet it is also one that is incredibly hard to put into practice.

There was one character in particular who made me see red. I won't say who, but if you have already read this book, I am sure that you'll be able to work out who that is. As for soon to be readers, I'm not being vague to annoy, I am being vague as I don't wish to say my opinion on something which could be considered a spoiler, nor do I wish to sway anyone's opinion with my own blunt one!

Despite my initial reservations, Lizzie Chantree, Nate, Maud and Dot, won me over by the end and I couldn't be more pleased. 'If You Love Me, I'm Yours' is such an energetic, charismatic, and poignant read which did in fact leave me with a massive grin on my face. I saw a lot of myself in Maud I must admit - I have always been made to feel as though nothing I do is ever good enough, and after years of the same old stuff being thrown at me, I cannot do anything except believe it as, shock horror, my confidence hit rock bottom. I guess I found those scenes with Maud to be quite emotional because of just how much I related to them, but I am glad that she was able to build up a support network. Some people aren't lucky enough to have one of those. On a personal level, I want to say thank you to the author for incorporating several in-depth topics into her storyline. People don't often realise just how deep their words can cut into others until it's too late. Hopefully people take heed of what the author is trying to convey via Maud and Dot.

'If you Love Me, I'm Yours' and I may have got off on the wrong foot, but I can safely say that this book has been a pleasure to read, with a conclusion that was heartstoppingly....wow.

I think the situation with the parents will be relatable to 90% of the readers. It was a slow paced romance in an artistic circle.
"If You Love Me, I'm Yours" by Lizzie Chantree is about a painter, Maud, who has been looking for her parent's appreciation for her art throughout her life, but hasn't been successful yet. Due to this, she has no confidence in her skill. Her life changes direction when Dot comes into her life, who is in a similar situation with her parents (as she thinks). Dot's brother Nate, who is a well-known artist is still captured in the past due to a horrific incident.
All these characters had to work on themselves. Everyone of them had flaws and negative emotions and had to overcome them.
There were some instances where there was less showing and more telling. Other than that, I liked the book. It was heartwarming and I was engaged in the characters lives.
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy from hidden gems.

As soon as I began reading If You Love Me, I’m Yours I was nodding my head in total agreement at Maud’s situation with her domineering/ungrateful mother! Because I could relate so well with her, Maud became my favourite character.

This is another light-hearted story with a touchy of quirky but also a dominantly artsy feel along with a little darkness involving one of the characters. All the characters, mainly friends or siblings are trying out their artistic skills and some are better than others. The whole concept revolves around no mater how good or bad you are at something so long as you enjoy it and try your best there will be some satisfaction.

There is some fabulous humour, some could be classified as cheeky banter but it’s all appealing. There is a love element, which is a very slow realisation that frankly makes a difference from the more than often wham, bam relationships in books. I found the whole story sweetly endearing, there were a few tears shed but ultimately it made me smile.

Perfect for a holiday break read, the cover gets my vote because it’s pink and sums up the lighter, fluffy side of the contents. I would pick up another book by this author if the cover and blurb caught my eye.

Thanks to the author, publisher and Rachel from Random Resources for my copy which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

I don't know if I can do this amazing book justice.

There is excitement, romance, comedy, friendships and so much more.

I am a sucker for a romantic story but I love how this novel brings in a comedic and sometimes frustrating side to romance because it's not always fairytale.

I love that Maud and Dot are both the black sheep's of their families because at first they just think that's what should be but through the book you can see them developing a growing into their confident skin.

I also love the friendship Daisy and Maud have. Maud, partly because of her parents dislike and partly because of her own lack of confidence, doesn't think her art is good enough, but Daisy has always been a fan and remains positive about her work and tries to help her realise how good it is.

This book has friendship and relationships themes running throughout it and I absolutely love it.

I love how Nate and Maud meet and I loved seeing what happens with them. Nate is so protective and loving towards his sister. This is so lovely because I have a big brother and know how this can make you feel safe.

I really like how the Lizzie Chantree describes things in this wonderful book, like the way Nate and Dots parents behave and react to things, they seem quite funny and eccentric and I'd love to meet them. At some points they are, like many parents, a little invasive and overprotective. Sometimes people just need to be left to make their own mistakes and follow their own path.

I have loved this book especially because I absolutely love art, my aunt is an artist and I have also loved creating and painting things.

Maud and Dot are black sheep and underdogs no more...

Thank you Lizzie for creating such a wonderful story for me to get stuck into. I couldn't not put it down. I also love that the title of the book is explained in the book and the idea for it is exquisite.

This is cute story featuring a young women with no confidence in herself or her art. With the help of some friends her confidence grows, not only in her art, but in her love life as well. It's written in third person POV, which is not my preferred writing style, so that kinda had a negative effect on me from the get go. I enjoyed the story itself, but had some issues with the writing (in addition to the POV.) I had a hard time really feeling sympathy for the Heroine. There were times when she came across as selfish and ungrateful. The Hero and the other side characters were better though, and more enjoyable. There was also a part of the story that felt unbelievable. (I don't want to give away spoilers) but there was a situation that happened that felt over the top of what would have happened in real life, in regards to her success as an artist. Overall I felt the plot was good but the execution was lacking.

*I volunteered to review an ARC of this book.

The author obviously has a love for, and knowledge of art in all its forms ...and human nature as well. Clever the way she shows the influence of parents on their offspring, who either try to live up to expectations or deny their true selves to fit in. I felt for repressed artistic Maud, who was impelled to express her talent anonymously and leave her works of art to be picked up by anyone who wanted to give them a home. ( I also loved the brilliant descriptions of her amazing bedroom and her hidden 'shed'. ) And then poor Dot, who only truly found her talent when she found Maud. The interweaving plot carries you along, willing and hoping for a happy ending for all these engaging characters. Another different story from Lizzie Chantree. It's as funny and compulsive as her Ninja School Mum. More please.

Beautiful and quirky with every turn of the page!

Nobody writes like Lizzie Chantree. If You Love Me, I'm Yours is another total triumph. The author effortlessly pulls together a colourful, eclectic and unforgettable cast, frames them in the exciting world of art, and weaves another wonderful story. A brilliant example of contemporary romance packed with depth, edge - and life lessons.

I liked the concept of the book, but everything else about it I couldn’t stand. The writing style, multitude of typos, the boring and honestly unlikable characters. The slow pace, I made it a third of the way through and there’s been little happening. I just couldn’t keep suffering through it.

Continuing in my pursuit of reading more British English books, I thoroughly enjoyed my first novel by Lizzie Chantree.

Maud has led an unspectacular life in an effort to maintain her parents' expectations; mainly her mother's happiness. Yet, she still manages to find time to paint, around her parental approved career as a teaching assistant at a local school. Over the years she's painted many pictures but does she have talent?

Coming from an artistic family, Dot has taken over the job of managing the careers of the artistic ones because she lacks the talent to achieve the success they do. When a new unknown artist begins leaving random pieces of art around a local village, she is determined to track the person down. Only, the artist becomes a friend who helps her to find the inspiration she needs to create artistic pieces herself.

Nate may be a highly successful artist, but events from his past plus his temperamental personality make him a challenge for those close to him. When he meets his sister's new friend, he's ready to try to rebuild his personal life, but life is complicated and Maud is unavailable to him...for now.

I heartily appreciated the humorous and sometimes cheeky banter exchanged between the characters. It's realistic, relatable and funny against a narrative that kept my interest one hundred per cent of the time. The power of friendship is ever present and I enjoyed how Daisy and Elliott were loyal to their friends and how a villain managed to worm his way into the proceedings from an unlikely place. The overall feel of the novel is light and entertaining but with a little bit of darkness thrown in too. It's heart-warming when Dot finally realises she is worthy of her famous family name and someone close is 'the' someone special who has patiently waited in the wings for her to 'see' him.

The author's writing caused me to shed a few tears as the mixed emotions shared by Maud and Nate find a satisfying conclusion. It was unexpected (the tears) but not surprising as they realise they both want the same thing...to be together...and who doesn't love an uplifting happy ending?

What more can I say? Reading, If You Love Me I'm Yours is a thoroughly pleasurable way to pass some hours in the sunshine. I'm also happy to have found a new author to follow too.

What a cute story! I stayed up until 1am reading this book, 1 because I could not sleep and 2 because Maud and Dot would not let me sleep!! I loved that the story was about two women finding their place in a world that had been carved out for them by their parents. Not going to lie, a couple of tears (I was yawning by this point due to the time of night/morning) did fall, due to the lack of communication and misinterpretation of things, but then it would not be a romance novel without it. Plus, when you discover the book title in the story and what it meant, well that is enough for even the most cold-hearted person to well up.

Maud, is a blooming artist, but she is constricted by the disappointment in her parents who want her to settle down, dress conservatively, find a nice man and have a good job, basically forget about art. Her bungalow is plain to the outside world apart from her bedroom, where she has painted a gorgeous mural and her studio at the end of the garden. To be honest, I want her bungalow. Maud’s best friend Daisy has however been her champion from the start.

Dot wants to be an artist to live up to her parents and brother’s talent. All outstanding artists, but Dot, in her mind, can’t paint. So instead, she is a persona of what she thinks her family want her to be, the crazy one, with outrageous outfits. She even wore a birds’ nest hat!!!

They find each other, well Dot finds Maud, due to someone dropping random art around the village with little tags on and it causes quite the stir. Instantly, the extrovert Dot and the introvert Maud become fast friends, both seeing the real person behind the walls they have built.

The love story between Nate and Maud was a slow one but it was two people finding their way to each other, and so the speed of it felt realistic especially due to their own present situations (the douche bag will not be named here!) and their history. I loved that the romance took the back seat in this story and it was the friendships of them all that took centre stage. The drama in the story was contained and did not overshadow the main theme of the book, it helped to enhance it, same with the romance.

When the story finishes, I felt it was a perfect ending for them all. I am assured, due to the writing, that they all had their happy endings, Nate, Maud, Elliot and Dot, I do not have to worry about them as they all have each other to keep them going on their creative, crazy journey into the sunset.

This book was a great read! I really liked the fact, that it was a slow burn, maybe even super slow burn and that the love story was not the focus of the plot. Instead we saw Maud developing from a caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly. And what a butterfly she was! It was realy nice to see her loverstory with men coming second place to her love story with herself (and I mean that in a completely non-masturbating context). She needed to learn to accept herself, her faults and strengths, no matter what her parents told her and she does that beautifully.
I really enjoyed seeing her character and personality develop and becoming a person with a lot more depth than in the beginning. The little notes she left with her paintings broke my heart and I so so so so hoped for her to find the acceptance and strength she needed to be herself.
The other characters were a bit dim next to her development, but since she was the main character, I didn’t feel as if that was a bad thing. Dot was colorfu and funny and brought the comic relief this book needed next tot he heavy topics and Nate, yeah, well he gave the smoldering bad boy of course.
I don’t give this book the full five stars, because some parts were a bit confusing andd sometimes I thought the timelines were a bit off, but other than that I really really enjoyed reading this book and will probably pick up other books by this author.
Oh and i really like the cover, because it doesn’t show the typical half naked cover model and suits the story perfectly.

if you love me i’m yours was cute and heartwarming, the storyline was really unique and interesting and the characters were quirky and well thought out. i really liked the contrast between dot and maud and the way they helped each other. i also really loved the play on the title throughout the book, especially in the ending which really surprised me and was cute.

i did wish the love story between nate and maud took place a little more in the beginning of the book, as i felt like it didn’t really start until half way and wanted more interaction between them in the beginning.

What a charming story :) I was intrigued to know how Lizzie Chantree writes after having met her and was not at all disappointed. I loved getting to know the characters, particularly Maud, Dot and Nate and this book took me out of my reading slump :) I devowered it in just three days, which considering I'm busy most days with one thing or another, is saying something :) I'm so glad that I picked up this book and would highly recommend it. Happy reading all and enjoy, as I am sure you will.

Lizzie Chantree has a unique writing voice that is fun and addictive. She also manages to create loveable and unlovable characters who are memorable and fully rounded – I’m thinking of Maud and her awful mother. Unlikeable as she is, Maud’s mother could be real – there are so many parents who refuse to recognise their child’s talent which therefore doesn’t get nurtured. So, this isn’t just a love story, the plot goes deeper into the psyche of families and the resulting lack of self-worth.

I enjoyed reading “If You Love Me, I’m Yours” and would be happy to read more of Maud, Dot and Nate.

Those of you who read this blog regularly will know that my favourite genre is crime fiction, however from time to time I stray into other territories. Often this is because of my book group or because I am given a book as a gift. On other occassions, I simply find an author whose work I enjoy. Lizzie Chantree is one of those writers.

Her novel, If You Love Me, I’m Yours, is about as far from my usual crime thrillers as it is possible to get – but it is well worth a read. The eclectice characters jump off of the page and into your heart.

Maud and Dot come together to support each other as they find their way in the world that has been created for them by their parents. This is a delightfully crafted story that I read in one sitting because I could not put it down. Read it, enjoy it, you won’t forget it!

I love you, you're mine!

I absolutely adored this book & venturing into Maud's World!!
Like a relatable modern fairy tale, you feel her self doubt & confidence fluctuations along with her, rooting for her every step of the way... I loved & hated different characters & was happily surprised a few times with unpredictable plot twists & oh my the ending...Just read/devour it!!!
Looking forward to reading more of this talented authors work
