Exes and Woes! Christy’s ex-husband, Robert, is getting death threats, and he’s convinced Mom and Christy to cater his record release party to find out if he’s in real danger or if it’s a hoax. But when Robert’s girlfriend gets in an auto accident, everyone is sure Christy caused it.
Can Mom and Christy solve yet another whodunit? And will Christy’s burgeoning relationship with a certain handsome detective survive?
You’re the bakers who do the investigations,” he said. “We prefer catering crime solvers,” Wenling said.
Christy and Jo are back from the Philippines and find themselves trying to figure out who's threatening Robert, Christy's ex. When Robert's girlfriend, Honey gets into a car accident , Christy becomes the main suspect. Thankfully her mother, Wenling, Dar Dar and the mystery readers book club are going to help solve the mystery.
Liked all the action of the first chapter. The mystery was good. Hated that DC Cooper presented so many red flags in their new relationship. But glad Christy called him on his behaviour.
Hard to believe there are only two books remaining in the series!
Another Christy and Mom story that I enjoyed very much. This time Christy’s ex-husband is featured and being a major pain in the neck. Makes for a very good novella!
I love this series! Only one more to go but I hope Christy Murphy will write another soon. They are such fun and I love her Mom and Wenling's friendship...the two of them make me laugh as much as I do with Christy's antics. I just found out the author is writing another series and I will be sure to check it out as well!
Mango Cake and Murder #1- Heartwarming and funny. I love the relationship between the mother and daughter; they reminded me of other m/d relationships like Joy Luck Club, etc. The mother is wise, caring, sensible, a matchmaker (her daughter's) and is loved by all. The daughter realizes how great and loved her mother is and there's the extended family, too. A love interest and a cat with personality. Can't forget the murder and the characters involved with that family. A funny, quickly read suspense.
Apple Pies and Alibis #2 - Another funny book. A well written comedy with a wonderful cast of characters supporting Mom and Christy as they solve another mysterious death, find a sandwich thief and the employee selling company secrets; while they successfully caterer parties and luncheons. When you finish the book, you're sad, but still happy from reading, that the book is finished and you don't have Milkshakes and Murder on hand.
Milkshakes and Murder #3 - They're at it again! Another well written, fun filled story with our favorite ladies and a well thought out plot that keeps the reader immersed in the intrigue, suspense and now, a touch of romance. The characters are interesting and the dialog real. Some of the characters are developing into their full potential and it's fun to watch the growth. There's new characters that will be seen more in future books. Ms. Murphy doesn't disappoint the reader with her writing and sense of humor.
Mocha and Murder #4 - This is a pretty good story! Well written, funny, intriguing and a different path followed than in previous books. Add a PASSEL of new characters, interesting and entertaining, along with a plot that keeps the reader interested. The reader isn't disappointed with the author's writing style and her sense of humor.
Coconuts and Crooks #5 – A well written, interesting, serious but informative story about Christy and her mom’s trip to the Philippines to solve the murder of her mom’s sister. Things go as usual and there’s another murder to solve. The characters are well developed and their dialog is realistic and interesting. The plot keeps the reader immersed in the story and Ms. Murphy’s descriptions paint interesting views of life there and their problems with the murders. This story doesn’t disappoint the reader. The note from the author is interesting on it’s own and worth reading. I contacted the author to review her books.
Honey Buns and Homicide #6 - This is not my first book by Ms. Murphy, but I had so much fun reading it. Not only that, but I caught myself immersed in the pages waiting to see what was next and if I was right about the baddie. This book reads so much like a conversation between friends, drinking ice tea on the front porch. It's well written, interesting, well thought out and filled with humor while being a substantial read. I'm always looking for the next Murphy book; there's no disappointment or stupid formulas, but someone who writes an interesting humorous story. I contacted the author to review her book.
The Secret Truth of Time - I've read Mango Cake and Murder, and Apple Pies and Alibis, and was surprised at the difference between those books and The Secret Truth of Time. Totally and completely apples and oranges. This well written paranormal book is fast paced and difficult to put down. I read it in one sitting. The characters are interesting and the plot is intriguing. The Time Travel alone is a major character! Ms. Murphy is one heck of a storyteller. Don't expect humor and lightheartedness in this story. It is spellbinding!
Christy and Mom (and Wenling and Dar Dar) are on the case to find out who is sending Robert, Christy's slug of an ex-husband, death threats. Christy wrote the lyrics to Robert's one and only hit song and now he wants her back and someone wants him dead and Christy in jail! To prove her innocence, the gang decides to find the real culprit.
Christy is a level-headed sleuth who doesn't rush into danger...well, only to make sure Mom, Wenling and Dar Dar are okay. She is relatable and down to earth. I have enjoyed seeing her develop more confidence in her investigative skills through each book.
The Christy and Mom series have great "whodunits", humor, quirky and lovable family and friends you'll want to get to know better! Christy Murphy's writing style makes you feel like you're visiting with old friends when you read each book! Reading Honey buns and Homicide is like coming home! Get comfy and ready to be surprised, laugh, gasp and enjoy another adventure!
Mystery, humor, romance, killer bees, bands, honey buns and an eclectic group of sleuths make Honeybuns and Homicide a perfect cozy mystery! I'm impatiently waiting for the next book!
Kindle Unlimited {well #1 is not showing that, but may have been at one time or was a promo with giveaways somehow since showed 'bought'. Little bit too short for me {86 pages, the other 2 a little longer but still on shorter side of 'book'}. Not sure is writer is english speaking etc or what, or maybe just lousy proofing from whoever and where ever but...it's manner not manor in some cases, flees vs fleas in others, and so on. Cardboard silly characters, unbelievable plots. Only reason bothered to do read/review is because saw had them all from freebie days except last one, where just when you thought, maybe, it couldn't get any silier, there's #6.
Exes and Woes! Christy’s ex-husband, Robert, is getting death threats, and he’s convinced Mom and Christy to cater his record release party to find out if he’s in real danger or if it’s a hoax. But when Robert’s girlfriend dies and he decides he wants to reconcile with Christy, everyone is sure Christy’s the killer. Can Mom and Christy solve yet another whodunit? And will Christy’s burgeoning relationship with a certain handsome detective survive?

More from mom and Christy, the amateur sleuths, along with Wenling and Dar Dar. The group are calling theirselves the Nancy Drew Crew. This little adventure sees them coming home from the Philippines where they solved a case. Christy finds herself being pursued by her ex husband, Robert, who manages to make her look like she’s the one pursuing him. It’s full of laughs and detective work and a little bit of real work as caterers.
This was an interesting mix of narcissism, power plays and distrust but at the same time Mom and Christy make it an amazingly fun read! The chaos of self entitled ex’s and pressure from people who abandoned her early make it a hard read at times but it was amazing seeing her stand up for herself and actually try hard to find her own path and clear her name. It was a great mix and I wish DC would trust her more.
What a fun and enjoyable story. Love the characters. They are original and very likeable. The situations they find themselves in are hilarious. Christy and the Nancy Drew Crew are great. She is growing and becoming more self-assured. Looking forward to reading more books written by Christy Murphy, they are funny and very entertaining.
This is the 6th in the series. The main character is Christy along with her mom and her mom's friend Wenling. They are just back n the states from solving their last case. Now they are being asked to take on another case to clear Christy's name in a case that involves her ex. They get the job done but oh the way that they do it. Really enjoy her stories.
I gave it an overall 3.5. It was funny though. Some of the content had me in tears. Robert, the ex husband was the ultimate jerk. Poor Christy couldn't catch a break. I would read Murphy again just so I could laugh. The hallway in the hospital scene had me in tears. I read it a couple of times and even called my sister so we could laugh together.
So, four-fifths of the way through the sixth book in the series, the author suddenly forgets the name of a recurring supporting character. How does that happen? For the record, Christy's ex-husband is named Robert, not Richard.
A funny, down to earth girl with a crazy but sweet Mom and an ex-wife husband you love to hate. The characters are so quirky that the mystery is less important than what they will say or do next. I'm hooked on the Mom and Christy mysteries!
I really thought it was the end for Christy and Dc. But, it all came together in the end, as usual. My favorite line was “ Apologize and take me home to meet your fish “. That made my day. Go Christy!!!!!
What a refreshing book! Loved it! Wacky characters, funny fights, weird ex, jealous boyfriend, and mom, her best friend, daughter and friends that solve mysteries, while baking! A cute plot, wonderful story with lots of drama, fun, and excitement. Lots of laughs! Fantastic!
Christy is one of my favorite cozy mystery narrators, as she feels so much like a real person who runs into real situations and reacts to them in a very real way. I'm going to keep reading this series mostly to make sure she ends up ok.
I liked the story over all and the interesting characters. Some things I felt were just short of obvious, but to say which falls under spoilers. I also like the direction Christy is taking as she gets a little older and hopefully wiser.
Someone is threatening Christy's ex, and harms his girlfriend after she has a fight with Christy. So of course she is a suspect. And the Nancy Drew Crew has to solve it.
I loved this story. Christy and D.C. the nancy drew crew. I like when i read a book and get to laugh out loud ( there was a spot about hurricane winds) that had me rolling.
Pure fun. It needs a bit of editing but is worth reading as is. The main characters are well developed and likeable. You soon feel like you know them well and want to know them even better. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
It wss interesting and funny in places. I liked the mother. She has good head on her shoulders. The story was very short, had drama, and was good. I would have liked to see n the story be much longer.
You never know what this heroine , mom and friends are going to get involved in next. A good clean mystery with a hint of romance. I will read others from this author.
This book is beyond funny! I love Christy's new attitude, and she going not going to put up with Robert anymore! The Nancy Drew Crew once more figures it all out.
