The Dark Kings #4

The Wolf King

Rate this book
My name's Red. My friends call me Violet, but I was once known by another name, The Heartsong...aka the darkness of the land. Once upon a time, I was a killer, a hunter, with only one goal in mind. Ending the Big Bad Wolf and taking back my power. But somewhere along the way, I realized the real enemy was myself. We fell in love, we made a life. And then a curse came and ripped it all apart. Now my lover and best friend can't remember who I am, and most days I can't remember him either. The curse has shaped us back into the former versions of ourselves. The dark, evil, and worst parts of us. All I know is I need to kill. I need to hurt something, and the only thing I know to do is to hunt the biggest and baddest beast in all the lands. But something inside of me has begun to stir. Memories of another time, a different place. And a man I once loved more than reason or sanity should allow. I have to break this curse on me, on us, before its too late. But to do it I'll have to try and remember our once upon another time...

Finally, I have time to review this book. Sorry guys I've been a bit busy.
To start, this is another exciting installment to the Bad King series. I actually haven't read the stories published under Marie Hall so I will suggest you read those books before you start the Bad Queen and Bad King series. Even though I haven't read the originals I was still able to follow along rather well. Winters does provide a bit of the back story. The Wolf King was intriguing. You follow along with Red and the big bad wolf as they find their way to break the curse set upon them. You also have a few of our favorite characters make guest appearances throughout the book. To put it simply, if you've read all the books up to this one then you can't stop. So buy the book and enjoy the tale.

This series is my absolute favorite

Each story is so beautiful, and heartbreaking, and captivating. They’re filled with despair, heartbreak, and pain, but also beauty, and hope, and undying love. I must have cried 5 times whole reading this one story, and my family thinks I’m crazy. Oh, the pain Pyper went through for her Lleweyn, the torture Red and her Wolf inflicted upon each other. Ms. Winters is a world class story teller.

Note: I received an advanced review copy in exchange for my honest review.

Here we are: The Wolf King. Book 4 in The Dark Kings series...most of us have been waiting for this book. I'm sure you're a fan of Jovee Winters - and The Kingdom series/world/books. If you've been following since BOOK 1 then we've come a long way....If you're new I highly recommend starting at The Dark Kings book 1 but even better...check out Her Mad Hatter by Marie Hall. You'll thank me later -I swear.

On to THIS book's review. I'll tell you now, it's got a slow-simmering vibe to it as you progress. If you've read this series so far you know what we're up against overall. You have two people in love, who essentially have had their whole relationship and even parts of themselves erased. Bring in the "heroine" - She NEEDS to fix this and bring two soulmates together. The stakes are high!

The premise and the position this book has in the series is what I like to call the linchpin: If this story works out, the beginning of fixing the entirety of Kingdom can happen. We can begin to hope.
I love the characters, there's no reason not to and well it's The Big Bad Wolf and his Red. I won't divulge more as I've got a big NO-NO on SPOILERS. That being said - you may think the story is confusing or rather you aren't sure where you're going to go or end up as you read along. Trust me though it makes sense big time come the end.

I love this book. Jovee Winters does an amazing job writing a book that has to be confusing as that is the literal epitome of what the characters themselves are dealing with. A world of Chaos. The characters remain true to their essences that we fell in love with before, and yet continue to be complex. They grow and these new experiences bring a new adventure for us to follow.

Hands down if you Love Kingdom, Jovee Winter's book - READ THIS. Jovee Winters' writing continues to keep us captivated. Being someone who read the story from the beginning, it's a tough job and she manages to succeed with flying colours.

If you love Paranormal Romance, Fantasy Romance, love Fairy Tale genre, or any of the like: I wholly recommend reading ALL of the Kingdom books...all the way till The Wolf King.

This is another installment in the world of Kingdom and it centers around Red and her Big Bad Beast. Rayale is also front and center in this book and guides the two separated lovers back toward each other.....eventually. This book, man this book was gut wrenching and a lot darker than the others in the series. I think this was the hardest couple to watch get pieced back together, but in the end they do find their path. I will warn you, you will want to reach into the book and just strangle a character or two at random times, but it really is worth it in the end and makes me VERY anxious for the next book.

This isn't a stand alone novel, you really need to go back at least a few books to get an understanding as to what is going on.....it's no hardship, honest :)

I recommend this book (and series in general) for anyone who likes a bit of a twisted fairy tale with a happily every after, strong characters and feeling like your heart is getting ripped out of your chest at random points in the story.

The Wolf's Tale

Thank you so much Jovee for this book. I will say that Violet and Ewan's story is not one of my favorites from kingdom but I still love it and their large family. I cannot wait to see what happens with their cubs and have their family whole again.
I truly enjoyed Rayale's involvement with their reunion and am excited for the telling of her story (Fingers crossed it comes out soon). It was nice seeing someone outside the couple fighting for their love.
It's insane how everyone is connected now and I am baffled by how she can keep it all straight while writing!
The Hades additions were amazing too especially with the back to back releases.

Again, there were some minor grammatical errors but not bad enough that it took away from the story.

All in all, it was a beautifully written, fresh take on red and her wolf. A great lead to Hades and Caly's story which are my favorite characters.

When you go from fan to hero - that is really something special. And what a heroine Rayale is! I rooted for her right from the start and she's really really awesome. With so many people working together to overcome the curse it can't be long until it's finally completely broken and I read along with baited breath, fully enjoying the rollercoaster of emotions the author put me through. Red and her wolf are just made for each other, the first and this second time and their story makes my heart beat faster. I don't want to say too much so as not to spoiler anyone but I have to say one thing: THERE BE DRAGONS!

Must Read!!

This book is about hope, love and sacrifice!! What would you be willing to do to make sure the person or people you love were happy? Seriously, what would you be willing to sacrifice? Would you go to Hell and back? What if you were never promised your own happiness? Would you still go? Rayale has a choice; heaven or hell.
Jovee writes an incredible story about true sacrifice. You will laugh. You will cry. Most of all, you will be moved by this story. Unfortunately for kingdom, the curse must be corrected, but can one woman make a difference?? Read to find out!!

Oh Rayale

I swear this author is the absolute best in writing twisted fairytales, I've read all her pen names and she is by far my favorite. I marvel over how she brings these stories and characters to life and how each book flows into the next. The imagination and creativity to keep going is astounding and never repetitive or boring. She blows me away each and every time. I highly recommend you follow along in this world and on this journey from the very beginning, it's so worth it! This one about broke my heart but it's slowing mending. I can't wait to see what happens in Kingdom next.

Heroes are made and destroyed, all in time. Time is a vicious mistress, and she demands her due.

Rayale is determined to get her wolf back. To do that she has to make his parents relearn themselves. They need to not only find themselves but the love they had, that they still have. Now time has to be reshaped, lives have to be fixed and family released. Rayale delves into the darkness of Hell, the darkness of hate and shines so bright she can change the reality of Red and her Wolf. Read on and be amazed at what light and dark can do to fix the cruel curse that has ripped their world apart. I'm off to the next.

I want to live in Kingdom.....

I want to live in Kingdom. I have decided that is why I cannot put Jovee's books down until the words run out because we known the stories of Kingdom will go on just as the love of these characters will never end. So I want to live in Kingdom.......
You must read these books or just start with this one. But beware you will discover that these books draw you in and you will search out the first book of Kingdom. You will read them over and over like reuniting with long lost Friends or Family.

I received this book in advance for an honest review.
This is a great continuation of the stories from Kingdom/Dark Queen's and Kings. The buildup of the story was done masterfully, and I got so wrapped up in it, that I was disappointed that it ended (For the time being, of course). Jovee Winter's has a way of putting the reader right in there with the characters as they face their trials. Don't put this on your "to read" list, just go for it!

The beginning of the end

If you're at this point, you hopefully read all the books leading up to this point. This one was hard because the original story between these two had already wrenched at my heart. To see that all that they had gone through was torn apart made me hurt all over again. I'm so happy with the outcome but I'm still tearing up over the price Rayale had to pay. Definitely a good read and as always, can't wait for the next installment.

The best

It was beautiful. The story goes beyond from what I expect, using time line is just genius. Giving you something new and fresh. Yet making so much sense to the story. So if you want a good plot this is your book. However I do not feel the all consuming love from the main characters. I am not sure is because “I don’t remember you “ which will make sense or something else. But overall a great book

A great story.

I wa kept on edge the emtire book. Why was their daughter who married rumples right hand not mentioned. Was she saved or lost. This was a story was heartwrenching, full of shocks and surprises you don't see coming. The Sea Queen was my favourite so I am looking forward to their rewritten story.

Phenomenal

This series has taken so many twists and I was giving up on it making sense to me. This put it to rights and loved brought it all back to focus. Oh how I look forward to the Death King, should be a wild ride. Thanks for rekindling this most love series for me. Now let's see Rayale, Hades and Danika get their HEA.

Loved it.

Loved it, so much emotion, hopelessness and yet so much hope from all the characters. Their weariness was heartbreaking but even then they had the strength to move forward, to not give up. At times it was funny and yet with a tinge of sadness, I really liked this book, I do hope Rayale gets her HEA, now to read the next book in the series.

Loved this book!
Curses and lovers and Hades and Red Riding Hood and The Big Bad Wolf. Oh my!! Combine them all together and you have one excellent book! Violet and Ewan are torn apart by dark magic but how they deal with all that creates a really great book. Totally enjoyed it!

Gracious, this book was heartbreaking, invigorating, sweet, and full of surprises! The time loop was a wild walk down memory lane for the big bad wolf and Red. This series never fails to capture my attention and I’m looking forward to Hades and Calypso’s tale.

Honestly this story was time consuming even though it was normal length. The time travel helped paint the picture of their relationship well and I was in tears for most of the book.

This book was a whirl wind adventure! I absolutely loved piecing together all the pieces to the puzzle, and their are a lot, a few sentences before the characters figured it out.

This one was shorter at least. The time line/time loop stuff was interesting until it became confusing as hell. Onward to the next. If you like fairytale retellings, Red and Wolf in particular, and you've made it this far in this series then check this out.

Excellence in Every Word

Hope driven by love in a familiar setting. The bravery, internal debates, and creative problem solving of each character seamlessly moves the plot. The dialogue is raw, which brings each character to life.
