Tina Redding is an international pop star though, as famous as she is, she has always liked to keep her private life to herself. She has always loved music and singing which was what drove her to this career but being in the limelight each and every day isn't really for her.
Misleading the paparazzi about her personal life is a goal of Tina's. So when the paparazzi think they catch her dating another woman, a waitress named Kayla, Tina goes with it. She asks Kayla if she would fake a relationship with her so people would stop trying to guess at her private life. If the gossip sites believe they already know who Tina is dating, they may lay off a bit.
Not only is Kayla a huge fan of Tina's but she could use the money Tina is offering her to fake this relationship. She has no qualms about getting paid to hang out with her favorite musician and pretend to date her. Until she starts to have actual feelings for Tina... feelings that Tina seems to reciprocate despite how complicated Tina's life currently is. There are so many things keeping them apart, but can love find a way?

Ugh... flat, predictable... the more I read the more stars kept dropping off my rating. This was my first book by Briar Lane, and possibly my last.

Tina is a famous rock star with a boyfriend who makes her keep their relationship a secret because, he tells her, he doesn't like being in the limelight. When a paparazzi takes photos of Tina helping Kayla, a waitress, up from a fall, a story begins circulating that Kayla is Tina's new girlfriend. Tina's boyfriend convinces her to persuade Kayla to go along with the story to maintain her true secretive relationship. But when the real reason that the boyfriend wants the fake relationship to be public surfaces, Tina is devastated and angry. All the while, she and Kayla have become good friends, and in the wake of her break-up, Tina wonders if her feelings for Kayla have grown into something more.

The book has a strong start. Fake relationship stories are all the rage now, and this one showed promise. But once the fake relationship becomes real (which is less than halfway through the book), we are stuck with a true love story that morphs into something a bit more dramatic and crazy. Since the book is short, everything is quickly resolved.

This is a quick read, with only so-so writing. We don't really get a good sense of Kayla. I'm gonna go with a 2 here since it feels a bit below average.

Sweet

The fake relationship that becomes real trope is fairly common . The reason for the relationship in this story is a bit different, and the twist that comes about because of it is, while predictable, well executed. The later plot complication seemed a bit forced. I would have found it more reasonable if it were related to the earlier storyline instead of being a completely random new character causing the problems.

Good book!

I really liked this book. I was rooting for Kayla and Tina the whole time! I kind of figured from the beginning that Andrew was hiding something. Loved the ending and the bonus chapter! Can't wait to read more books from Briar Lane
