I came across this book on a Facebook ad. 🥴 I try so hard not to read those kind of ads, because I don't like the apps like dreame. Buuuuut the first few sentences sucked me in.
Ended up finding the whole book on wattpad and reading it in a few days. (Skipping over the author notes though)

The author is definitely a beginner writer.. apparently writing the whole book from her phone! So, there was a lot of mistakes, which is whatever for me.. might bug other people though. I definitely agree with another review that this book is fairly repetitive, regarding characters thoughts and whatnot. I think with some proofreading and editing it would be a decent book to have published though!

However, I really did enjoy the story overall. I HAD to finish it and I was invested in all of the main characters, which is important for me. There were so many times I bawled my eyes out. If she wrote another book regarding the children as adults, I'd absolutely read it. 🤷‍♀️

Super repetitive. And incredibly immature characters. The weirdest things was also villainizing Grace and then trying to make her good. None of it made sense. The author notes are also too much.

First of all this book is long. Like, LONG. Its hard to compare being a Wattpad book but buckle in for a big one that will rival all your favourites by the end. I've not been this impressed with an indie author for a long time. I read a lot of books but tend to stay away from the super long ones as I love angst, action and suspense and they just can't hold that energy for long enough, but oh boy can this author hold attention like no other, somehow without seeming gimicky about it. You know the kind that usually feels like a plot twist for the sake of it? That does not happen here. It's all the delicious angst you ever wanted, all the ow-drama but with characters that end up deeper than that, all the violence but not just for the sake of it, all the steam but where it feels authentic, all the heartbreak and torture of the fmc yet that forges her into something new.

If you like 'em dark, suspenseful, violent, and very shifter, this one's for you.

Trigger warnings (spoiler ish from here):
- You'll need to be able to tolerate a cheating MMC plotline because there are multiple elements of this even if there are 'reasons' on the MMC's part. FMC has a moment of doubt but is faithful essentially. Side characters are a mixed bag but it's all due to the culture so you need to really like dark VERY shifter stories, if you do it's AMAZING.
- Attempted rape of FMC and rape of side characters
- Loss of pregnancy in graphic ways, by multiple key characters you will feel close to
- Ow pregnancy (spoiler, hers is from before MMC and FMC knew they were mates, knowing this helped me and brought the perfect angst IMO BUT even I struggled with how many people openly wished for that baby to be lost, which culturally made more sense in their society given some beast side tendencies for all involved, I won't say more or it will ruin things but there are reasons, I still felt that one part could have been repeated less, like saying it a few times was enough).

The only thing I didn't like was how much the FMC collapses to the ground crying even after hardening up and becoming a badass, I felt in front of the MMC she didn't get to show enough how awesome she had become after her time away. But that was a small thing because I was busy eating up the angst and plot twists. And Penelope, I actually felt her wrongdoings needed to have been worse for the storyline attached to her later, like what she did was bad but probably not as bad as the witch who got killed, yet she was punished worse. But did I still absolutely devour every word anyway and love the darkness? Yes, yes I did.

If you love this type of book like I do, you'll get to enjoy:
- Angst galore
- Betrayal not just by MMC, and not just of FMC
- MMC + ow for 'reasons' > then MMC + FMC realise they are mates
- FMC tortured emotionally while MMC focussed on OW for 'reasons'
- FMC runs
- Great spice
- Second chance same asshole but both of them grow physically and emotionally
- Side characters way bigger in this story than others, so their plotlines add great depth
- Shifters, oracles, pack wars, intricate world building
- Red wedding type moment towards the end (GOT fans you get me, GLORIOUS).

Worth the annoyance of Wattpad to read this, but the author apparently has a book deal which they absolutely deserve so you might get to skip the annoying chapter notes/interruptions of having to find the spice chapters then go back to the main book, I despise that about Wattpad and it usually stops me from reading many of the titles. Also needs a good edit but I don't regret the effort here at all through!

If you are on the fence but love angst, READ IT. Stick with the moments when you think there isn't reasons for x/y/z plotlines, there are, they take ages to come out but they are there!

Fave book of 2026!

Very good read but also very repetitive. You will read the same thought a character has at least 10 times. You can literally skip paragraphs in every chapter an not miss anything lol And when you get to another character’s thought on them, you’ll hear it from their point of view at least 4 more times. Author painted a villain, Grace, very intensely to the point where the readers hated her wholeheartedly. Biggest downfall of the book was the author tried and failed miserably to paint Grace as a good person. More negatives than positives in this book which is okay but def not for 48 chapters lol. But the readers weren’t having it with the grace situation lol Awesome book overall

An amazing read full of ups and downs and what the heck moments. I truly felt every single emotion of the main characters right along with them. (so be sure to keep tissue handy) You don't want to pass this one over, its a beautiful read and well worth the tears!!!

Anyone know where I can finish reading this book? I’ve only been able to find it on “WhatsRead” app… but it’s over 60 for book one.

I liked the book. I was intrigued by it. I felt many of the emotions that the FL felt. I’m curious if there is still other books about the characters like the author mentioned.
