Gena Showalter is the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of over seventy books, including the acclaimed Lords of the Underworld series, the Gods of War series, the White Rabbit Chronicles, and the Forest of Good and Evil series. She writes sizzling paranormal romance, heartwarming contemporary romance, and unputdownable young adult novels, and lives in Oklahoma City with her family and menagerie of dogs and cats.
Generally speaking, I enjoyed this series, but I must confess that part of the rating I gave to these books is based more on my predisposition to like everything Gena Showalter writes than in my actual valuation of each book in particular. Sorry, my bad.
In my opinion, Heart of Dragon(book 1) is not a very good book, it’s weak. It is unavoidable to compare it with other works of this author, and I have to say, this book is below par. Darius is not very attractive, and the love story doesn't really click. The plot has too much battle and unnecessary information. In addition to the main romance, there is secondary love story; I usually enjoy this extras, however, in this case the romance lacks credibility and it is tiresome.
Jewel of Atlantis(book 2) is much better than the first book, which is a relief really after the previous let down. Now we can see for sure that this series have potential.
The Nymph King(book 3) is better than the first book but weaker than the rest of installments of this series.
I think that The Vampire’s Bride(book 4) might be the Atlantis series’ book that I appreciated the most.
The Amazon’s Curse(book 5) is better than the first and third book but not as good as the second and forth.
If you are looking for a good paranormal romance I can only say that there are much better books to read from this writer than this ones. Personally, I am a fan of Gena Showalter so I think I will read pretty much anything she writes.
Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld series and Alien Huntress series have a more complex and interesting universe and on the whole I consider them to be superior to the Atlantis series books.
First off all I have been looking a good paranormal series to read an this is one great series! This series has five novels and I read them in like two days. As this was a real quick read for me. This book had sexy, swoon worthy alpha males and trust me i loved all the men. Each book in this bundle could be read as a standalone. I also liked all those strong women in this series especially the Amazon worrier.
Anyway i love stories with dragons and vampires. I also like that this bundle had supernatural creates that I have never read about. This is also the first book that I read from this author and trust me I will easily go and read more novels from her. I loved the men in this series but I especially loved Darius and Valerian. The guy I did not like was Grayson James because what he mostly thought about was sex and in my eyes sex is not all that is important! Also Jewel of Atlantis was a little obvious especially with that blurb. I liked The Vampire's Bride but it could have been better for me, i mean it was like a hunger games style with contestants trying to survive on a island.
my favorite book in this bundle was The Nymph King. I mean I loved Shaye is much because she is a strong independent women who did not fall all over herself when she first saw the nymphs. Especially when every women fall all over them selves when they are near a nymph. The nymphs and Dragons are my favorite characters in this series. What I love about this series is that even though it can be read as standalone the characters still intertwine with each other. These books are all told in dual pov and sometimes we got a narration from other characters in this book. Obviously they are the minor characters but I still liked reading how they got their happy ever after.
My Ratings:
Heart of Dragon~ 4 Hearts (I loved dragons so much! I would easily reread this book)
Jewel of Atlantis ~ 3 Hearts
The Nymph King ~ 4 Hearts (I loved this book so much!)
The Vampire's Bride ~4 Hearts (Finally happy that Layel found happiness again!)
The Amazon's Curse ~ 3 Hearts
Basically this is one good book that is a enjoyable read. If you need something paranormal then this bundle is a good enough book to read because you get something of everything. Anyway it is a quick read but this book you might either hate it or love it. I fall under loving it. And I cant wait to read more books from this author.
I think the characters in each of the books was so similar, very formulaic, and I probably would have enjoyed them more if they were spaced apart and the series was not read in its entirety. The Jewel of Atlantis started out kinda bad, the middle was better and then ended poorly. The Nymph King was probably the best one. The Vampires Bride was slightly disapointing. It was released after the Hunger Games and takes it's own spin with it's own games. I like Gena Showalters other series Lord's Of The Underworld much better.
Atlantis Series Complete Collection: A Paranormal Romance Box Set by Gena Showalter box set has the following titles Heart of the Dragon, Jewel of Atlantis, The Nymph King, The Vampire’s Bride, and The Amazon’s Curse. I’ll update my review as I finish each title.
Heart of the Dragon
Heart of the Dragon is the first book in the Atlantis series and it was just a great way to start off a new series. I just had so much fun getting to enter this world and meet these new characters. I just absolutely fell in love with these great characters and I loved getting to go along for the ride. I just couldn’t get enough of this story and I was sad to see it end. I will most definitely be reading the next book in the series.
Maybe I'm not a big fan because I read the books back to back. The characters in each of the books where so similar it was almost like the author used a template of what readers are looking for. Beginning-Middle-End. Not much in between.
I think as stand alone books they weren't bad, I have read much worse but they definitely don't rank high on the Awesome Scale.
I started this series when I had nothing else to read. Not sure if I was gonna like it but I ended up LOVING it and even bought them all in paperback too!
This is one of my favorite series Lords of the Underworld top this but I absolutely love this series it's fun adventurous romantic a different than what you might expect if you enter Atlantis you'll be going under the water and learning A Whole New World with mythical creatures Adventure suspense and romance
I have not even opened this bundle just yet but had already purchased a paperback from this series n waited patiently for a price drop. Gena is the reason I returned to reading books after devouring her Carpathian series. Also read some thrillers n her Air series. What can I say except that I'll have several sleepless nights as I enter into the lives of the immortal citizens of Atlantis. Aaah what a thrill. Heart of the Dragon features Darius en Kragen as a guardian of the portal to Atlantis charged with slaying trespassers of the "mists". One female he can't bring himself to slay because for the 1st time in centuries he can see color n taste food. He also begins to have emotions which he finds perplexing. Needless to say that he has found his soul mate in the mortal who wandered into Atlantis thru the portal. In The Nymph King n The Vampires Bride u find interference from the god Poseidon. While some may find this boring , I totally understood the plot behind this deviation from the norm. After all the Gods were the ones who created all the Atlanteans n banished them to the depths of the oceans because they considered them abominations. The Nymph King finds his soul mate in a mortal he abducts from the surface which angers Poseidon. Only guardians r allowed to enter the surface world n all guardians r dragons not nymphs. The Vampires Bride finds Poseidon n several other Gods transporting two of each species from Atlantis to a remote island for a game between them for exclusive rights to Atlantis. The losing team has to decide which member is to be executed. The vampire King Layel finds his soul mate in the petite Amazon but keeps trying to deny it because of his former mate who was tortured n murdered by the Dragons in front of him while he was bound. The Jewel of Atlantis was confusing at 1st but once u got into the story it got interesting. Imagine a creature who possesses not one but all the traits of every citizen of Atlantis. Mortals think it is a stone n send someone into Atlantis to retrieve it. I enjoyed every story in this Atlantis series just as I had hoped.
This entire series was just incredible. While stories have been told in the past of the creatures in the series, Gena Showalter takes each of the creatures to a whole new level. The creatures are the type of character you can just imagine. The imagery is fantastic. Battle scenes were so amazing, that I practically felt each blow to the narrator of that section. The love scenes are the type that make a woman feel loved herself. The entire series is magnificent. I have read it three times in the last month, and practically memorized everything from all the books.
I adored all 5 books in this bundle. All are packed with conflict, drama, suspense, love and wonderful sex scenes that leave you breathless. The characters in the books are amazing developed, and I was really thrilled to have most, if not all appear in each story even after they got their HEA. The intertwined worlds of Atlantians and Surface people "humans" gave the books a nice, refreshing twist. I can't say that I liked one book or character over another, they all were just that good.
I love ANYTHING Gena writes but I also loved this bundle because it gives us some background stories 4 her other series i dnt usually write long reviews and I'm not going 2 got this one since it was 5 sort stories bit if ur someone who loves Gena's wrk them I'd Def recommend this for u is fun, fast, and sexy. she writes these stories in a very vivid and Dangerous (2 humans at least) world that is so easy 2 very lay for fours in.
One word of warning though: If you read this book when you're single, you'll be extremely frustrated. If you have a partner, don't read it if your partner's away because it'll get you in trouble. Ha! Ha! Ha!
Some books were better than others but the final book which was a 40-page novella really sucked. The first two books I rated a 3-3.5, the second two books I rated at a 4 and the final book I rated a 1 and I felt I was being generous with that. Overall, I liked the series but didn't love the series and the novella could have easily been added to the end of book 4 as it was essentially useless.
I like the strength that Gena Showalter portrays in the females in her books. How strong and wise and smart and funny they are. This is why I like her books and would recommend them to everybody whose looking for a book where the woman isn't a damsel in distress but a smart woman who goes after what they want.
DNF. I thought that since this was Gena Showalter, this bundle would grab my attention and want to read the next book after next. Not so. I read the first book and thought, "That was it?" This is nothing like her Lords of the Underworld series. It didn't grab me as a "I have to read the next book" kind of series.
Interesting world building, but the characters and love stories were too formulaic, and the writing needed some thorough attention from an editor. It gets a third star because the last full book in the bundle was fresh. The author did a good job of characterizing the gods as capricious and bloodthirsty, although I think she confused or bizarrely conflated Hestia and Hecate.
Read this bundle in about 4 days. I did like the writing and humour in them, but i found them a bit monotonous. May be because I read them so quickly, did not enjoy this as much as the Lords of The Underworls series.
Fun when you are in the mood for a mindless trashy romance. Read the first and 4th book in this series a while ago, but could never find book 2 and 3 individually, and now I see why. Book 1 and 4 were much better.
I LOVED Gena Showalter's Atlantis series, they are what introduced me to her books. And they are really great! If you haven't read them (and you like adult romance) then I definetly recomend them!
