Eighteen-year-old Garen has found his first sense of community, and he knows the sacrifices it took to bring them together. The Spellswords now possess four of the five elemental spirits.
Their power seems unrivaled.
But a war-bent host commands the final spirit. His followers draw from deeper magics than the Spellswords have ever faced. If Garen hopes to prevent a war, he’ll need to do more than slash and blast his way through every threat to the kingdom.
Subtlety doesn’t come easy to Garen, but he’ll have no choice but to learn. Secrets lay hidden between the Material and Spirit Realms—secrets that will determine the fate of the Spellswords. As war, doubt, and madness loom closer on the horizon, Garen’s time to uncover the truth is fading quickly.
Snell's second book does not disappoint. Snell mixes fantasy and the continued development of the hero into an interesting and complex world. My complaint in many young adult books is the inability to get past the immaturity or love story in order to focus on an interesting plot, but it's easy to forget that the protagonist is eighteen years old, there's a depth of character as he makes choices throughout the story. Snell writes in a way that creates feeling for even briefly introduced characters and will draw you into a world that is vastly different yet contains familiar fears and dreams. For any fans of the genre, this series is worth your time.
Note: I received an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Wow! Compelling! Raced through the book to see what would happen next. Many twists and turns are in this one. There is depth; it’s not just a story to entertain you. To me, this isn’t just for young adults. Has the feel of greatness; I can see this author advancing quickly.
