Thirty-eight year old Dr. Madeline Alleyn is a successful professor of Celtic History in upstate New York, but she is haunted by her past and the decision she made years ago to abandon her husband after learning of his strange heritage. When she discovers that she’s pregnant with triplets, she makes the decision to run to protect her children and, inexplicably, her husband also. Now, after nearly eighteen years of vigilance, the destiny from which Madeline has tried to escape catches up with her. As her daughters begin to develop psychokinetic powers, an attempt to murder them is made to negate an ancient prophecy. Escaping the murder attempt in the night, the triplets suspect their fate is tied to some ancient stones and their mysterious grandmother. But as they seek answers, they have to run for their lives. People are after them, some to finish the failed murderous act and others to protect them. Along the way, they seek to solve the riddle of the Stones of Sumer, a mystery with startling implications for humanity…
VEILED MEMORY, by Stanley P. Brown is well-written and well–paced, this paranormal mystery thriller will keep you enthralled and turning pages well past your bedtime. With believable, relatable characters (I particularly enjoyed Madeline and her 17-year-old triplet daughters) and an original, intriguing plot, this book will latch onto your curiosity and lead you a merry chase through numerous twists, turns and surprises as the mystery is unveiled.
VEILED MEMORY is a not-to-be-missed treat for all lovers of this genre, and for anyone looking for a great book to spend some quality time. Definitely worth a read, I highly recommend!
The description of Veiled Memory appealed to me for numerous reasons. I enjoy the topics of Celtic History and folklore. Though I’ve wanted to visit, I’ve never been to the book’s setting, New York – the closest I’ve gotten is North Carolina, and let’s face it, that’s not very close. Having a history of twins on both sides of the family, a tale with triplets fascinated me. And, with murder attempts, psychic abilities, and mysterious ancient rune stones, there was no doubt in my mind that I was in for an exciting, fun read.
I wasn’t disappointed. Best comparison I can come up with is a paranormal National Treasure with a more serious vibe. The action and tension are relentless and the story makes reference to multiple yummy scholarly subjects, including another fav of mine, astronomy.
The author has a deft hand when it comes to pacing and balancing the story’s multiple plot lines. It’s complex, but I never failed to understand what was going on nor did I lose track of who a character was, despite there being quite a few to keep up with.
I heartily recommend this book and eagerly await the next installation.
Pushed all the right buttons: Celtic, ESP, mystery, thriller, sci-fi, and fantasy. What more could I want. I'm now reading The Legacy. So far it's even better. Way to go, S. P. Brown!
Stylistically, this book falls somewhere between those written by Dan Brown and James Rollins. As with the latter, this author has used familiar historical sites and artifacts as touchstones for a real "page-turner" that is a suspense-filled, paranormal mystery
An unexpected lunar event leads to search of the cause. Not all have purely scientific curiosity; some groups inevitably offer agenda-driven interpretations in order to attempt to control Earth’s destiny.
The story is driven by a mother who suspected, 19 years before the event, that the key role of her triplets had been foretold. Once learning she was pregnant, she left her family and friends and reinvented herself as a single mother, attempting to raise her children away from the oncoming threat. After the lunar event, she is quickly brought into story to interpret certain events, while she continues to try to hide her children from the public view. The latter becomes impossible as her daughters gradually learn they aren’t your average teens, but possess special abilities. Being teens and newly aware of their abilities inevitably brings onlookers, and places them at risk as they learn of a past placing Earth’s future at risk.
It was fascinating watching how the author brought different pieces of the puzzle together from different points of view. Book 2 is on my 2020 reading list.
Take one presumed-dead scholar of runic symbols, Madeline, who has been hiding for nineteen years as a professor of linguistics in an Upstate New York university. Add her eighteen-year-old triplet daughters coming into their paranormal powers just as a secret clan of telepathic people is attempting to murder them. And, at the same time, the decaying orbit of moon is signaling to the world the fulfillment of a 1400-year-old prophecy that can end only in war and the takeover of the Earth. The key to thwarting the clan’s takeover is finding the Stones of Sumer that disappeared when Madeline’s mother was killed some thirty-eight years ago. Fantastic yes, but somehow Brown fits the pieces together so seamlessly that you are drawn into this suspenseful story feeling empathy for Madeline, fear for the welfare of her daughters, and dread for the future of the Earth. Not to be missed!
This is book one of a trilogy which deals with Madeline Alleyn, a linguist of archaic languages who has run away and is presumed dead. She is in hiding and wants to protect her triplet daughters from a secret clan and an ancient prophecy.
This fast paced novel cleverly mixes Celtic history and folklore with a link to astronomy and builds in tension as the secret sect tries to track the family down and the adolscent triplets discover that they possess psychic abilities. As the girls learn about their past, Madeline tries to complete her mother´s unfinished work and decipher the meaning behind some ancient runes. Tension continues to rise as Madeline and the girls do not know who they can trust.
As it is a trilogy, the book does not tie up all the loose ends. One needs to read the sequel in order to continue the tale, but the storyline is so good, you are impelled to continue reading the sequel.
Stanley P. Brown has weaved a complex story in a world that on the surface appears normal...but isn't. This is paranormal at its best. 'They' are amongst us, and humanity doesn't even know. Warning, there are multiple threads...don't skip ahead. The main one follows Madeline and her triplet daughters. She is haunted by her mother's death and in hiding from 'them' to protect her children. Add in an ancient prophecy, her mother's unfinished work deciphering runes on an archeological find, and you're in for a ride.
This is book one of a trilogy, so don't be surprised when the story ends with unresolved issues.
Suspense, right on the first page. This book will have you hooked immediately, and you won't be able to put it down. The characters draw you right in, and the story is suspenseful all the way through. Lots of mystery and had my curiosity all the way through the book. I recommend this book.
This book is interesting, enjoyable and well written. A very good mix of genres and themes, it's a lot of fun to read. Recommended! Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC
I’m not usually a huge fan of stories with a magical or paranormal element to them. I chose this book mainly because I grew up near where a portion of this story takes place, and that piqued my interest. That being said, I was genuinely hooked after reading just the first chapter. S.P. Brown has a wonderful sense of how a story should be told.
The story centers around Dr. Madeline Alleyn, a professor of Celtic History. She is a single mother who is trying to run away from her past so that she can protect the future of her three daughters. The problem is that she is unsure of exactly what she is protecting them from. Her daughters, who are triplets, are on a journey of their own as they begin to discover that they possess some sort of mystical powers that somehow tie into their mother's past.
If you’re into it, others have laid out the plot of this book in more detail, but I believe in allowing the reader to discover and enjoy the story as it unfolds. There is a lot going on in this book, so pay attention. But the author moves back and forth between storylines with an effortless pacing that allows you to stay fully immersed as you read, and smoothly weaves the different parts together so that the story’s climax will keep your heart pounding.
This is book one in The Stonehenge Chronicles trilogy. I only had one problem with this book – it turned me into a fan of stories with the magical and/or paranormal element… and that is going to lead to a much longer list of books I will have to read! Actually, a good problem to have, as I will definitely enjoy more of S.P. Brown’s work. 😊
A mother in hiding. Daughters looking for answers. When she finds out she's pregnant, Dr. Madeline Alleyn abandons her husband to protect her unborn children from her spouse's magical heritage. But his heritage is also his daughters and it catches up with her. This book is filled with twists and turns and is immersed in Celtic and quantum magic. Lots of fun and excitement. VEILED MEMORY is a mesmeric read.
