As a phone sex operator, Annette Waincott knows how to tease to get what she wants. That is, until she teases the wrong man at a club, claiming kinky fantasies she doesn’t really have. It must have been too much vodka and his tantalizing Russian accent. Too bad he believes her.
When the Russian accidentally kidnaps her twin sister as part of an ill-fated sex game, things quickly get real. In a desperate bid to free her twin, Annette offers herself to him in trade. He both terrifies and excites her, but she knows she can never trust him. The things he wants will push her to her limits and beyond. And this time, she can't tell pretty lies and run away.
Note: This is a book in the Pleasure House world. The other books are: Guilty Pleasures, Broken Dolls, and Surrender. The books can be read in any order but this title occurs first chronologically and would be considered a prequel to the other books since Anton and Annette are already a couple in the other books. This is their origins story.
"If dark romance with obsession, danger, and just the right touch of chaos is your thing, Ruthless Devotion is a must-read. Aidan is intense, unhinged in the best way, and completely fixated on Maddie—yet somehow, you can’t help falling for him.”-Booksnliftsdiary, Goodreads
"Dark, Twisted, and Addictively Compelling.” – Good Booking Girl, Goodreads
"Maddie is strong, she is smart, and I love her. I’ll be honest I was not sure how Kitty Thomas was gonna get me on team Aiden but she did! I can’t wait to read more from this author!” – Katlyn, Goodreads
TL:DR version - I really enjoyed this book, even the bits that I hated had purpose, meaning, reason and built into the story, allowing character growth, self discovery and a truly consensual, loving relationship to emerge. You just have to wade through the sewers to get there!
Anton and Annette's story was incredibly compelling but also quite difficult at times. This was truly the darkest of the five books, though it never really went beyond dubious consent. At the end of the day, whilst Annette had chosen to be at the Pleasure House, it wasn't of the same free choice that others had been given.
At one point Annette tells her sister it was a game gone wrong, and actually this reason could very easily have been used at the beginning, rather than the crazy "I'll have to keep you forever" scenario. However at no point whilst the story played out did I roll my eyes or feel the plot wasn't a possible outcome of events.
There was one scene that scraped my nerves raw, I even made a note on my kindle that said "this is just too much!". It was regarding an encounter with Sergio under the stairs at the ballet. Two or three days into knowing Anton, and for a girl with a very limited sexual history, well it pushed MY boundaries. The sex scene, for me, was quite chilling, it made me feel uncomfortable, angry rather than lustful. I thought Kitty Thomas had got it badly wrong and gone too far.
Turns out I was both right AND wrong. The author had written it perfectly because it had, indeed, gone too far. I'm not sure if I was meant to enjoy the scene or not, but the fact that my emotions fed perfectly into the next part of the story blew my mind! In fact the story played out perfectly - even if Anton did need a punch in the balls for the Brian threat. What a dick move given the horrific incident that had just taken place. Still he did suffer for it, so I did forgive him.
I'm glad I read it last - only I could have started with the final book first 😂 - as it meant I'd had plenty of time to see their relationship in action, and how much they truly adored one another. I wouldn't suggest reading this first, even though it is first chronologically. I personally feel you need to know these characters, their situation, the whole set up, first in order to really appreciate their story.
I really, really liked Annette - even if she was slightly crazy and far too impulsive. At the end of the day she knew when enough was enough and she stuck to her guns. Like Gabe, Anton had felt like a halfway decent guy in the other books. On more than one occasion his moral compass slipped so far from North that I found myself wanting Annette to somehow leave him. However unlike Gabe he realised his errors - well most of them - and worked hard to make Annette a content slave. And much as I hated what Brian did, we needed that pivotal event as the fall out from it allowed the relationship to become what they both wanted and needed.
edit: I'm coming back to this review and articulating more on why I only rated this book 3 stars. In reality this was more of a 2 star read for me. I'm being nice and leaving it at 3 stars but the official rating is 2.45
This is one of Kitty Thomas' longer books, and I think what I'm noticing as I read more by Kitty Thomas is that her pacing seems to lag when she writes books on the longer side. I'm noticing I almost always enjoy her short stories or shorter books more. As I go through Kitty's backlog I'm probably going to pay attention to this. There were definitely sections of this book where the pace dragged big time. That was my biggest issue with this book.
Also, I've started getting a contemporary romance vibe from this series, it just seems so much lighter compared to Guilty Pleasures, which I find slightly hilarious since the premise of this series is basically women being sexually trafficked.
Original Review:
To be honest, I skimmed so much of this book I should put it on my dnf shelf.
It was better than Broken Dolls, but no where near as good as Guilty Pleasures. It didn't hold my attention, but I see others enjoying it. It was written well and certain parts were interesting. This is worth a shot, but I'm glad I only paid $0.99 for this.

Welcome to the start of Kitty Thomas’ The Pleasure House. Where a sweet girl gets caught with her pretty lies, and is in for a big surprise.
This is the true beginning. And we meet the men,who become Masters,as they set up their dream. Lindsay,Anton,Gabe and Brian are committed, that’s for sure....
On a night out,Anton meets a sweet girl,Anette. She seems to like the same things he does, but leaves before he can take her home. When he sees her the next day at his spa,the Dome,he just knows she came searching for him,only..... It’s her twin sister,Janette (can you believe those names? Lol) Anette comes to the rescue of her sister, and manages to “strike a deal” with him. But what Anton expects in return, will she be able to do what he wants?
The Pleasure House is off to a rocky start with all the things that nearly went wrong. Will everything turn out for the best,or are there casualties?
Will Brian do more harm than good,or can Lindsay keep him from doing more damage? He’s next on my list to read,i need Brian out of my system, because he’s haunting me.....
Well folks Kitty Thomas did it again. She has always been my top favorite author and have had the delight in reading. I'm honored to have an ARC of Pretty Lies and I did not put it down once I started. She captivated me with the details of the house and history of how it became to be. Anton Volikov is perfectly described and when I was reading I swear I sounded Russian in the back of my head. The purr of his voice and complete obedience he requires is titillating. Sometimes I did feel like he was an axxhole but it was very necessary to his character in the book, plus I do like a good fight with a sexy man. Annette Waincott to me was such a slut! I mean her profession was a sex phone operator but she couldn't get it up if she tried, for others yes, wink wink. But hey girl hey you be the best slut you can be(I sure as shit would). I did enjoy how she was eager and wanton like to just get off no matter who it might be assisting her. Annette to me seemed confused yet she was at peace throughout their story with the dynamic of their relationship. I was rooting for them to make it thru the book! I really loved the outcome of the book. I can not say it enough so I will say it just once more. Do read Kitty Thomas' books! She is extraordinary in her story telling and gives me solitude in my reading experience. I am grateful to have read and reviewed this book. Plus let's be honest I freaking loved it and knew I would. I bet she could write instructions on how to set up my T.V. and Id be captivated. ***MUST READ***
She didn’t speak a word to him. She begged him with nothing but her eyes.
I LOVE this author. She’s probably one of my favorite authors of all time, if not my #1 favorite. Whenever she has a new release I will automatically buy it and try to read it as soon as possible. It’s not even a guilty pleasure because her books are AMAZING. Kitty Thomas really understands the BDSM dynamic and I love it!
Pretty Lies didn’t disappoint. It wasn’t my favorite by Kitty but I definitely loved it. If you’ve been following the Pleasure House world you need to find out Anton and Annette’s story! I’ve been waiting for this one for a while.
While her writing style is quite simple, Mrs. Thomas manages to deliver a story that hits you right in the feels and knows exactly how to write BDSM dialogue – she’s probably my favorite BDSM author and I just adore the way she understands the relationship. (: I’m a huge fan and I can’t wait for her next book! I will pick it up the second it’s out. She very rarely disappoints. Kudos!
Would recommend for: fans of Kitty Thomas, BDSM romance – if you like captive books her stuff is a must read!!
As crazy as this sounds, I don’t read blurbs for most of my 1-click authors. I know there’s no point because honestly, they could write a menu and I still would read it. So, when Kitty Thomas has a book coming out, you are absolutely correct I will 1CTB and go into the book blind. Okay, not totally blind. I knew Pretty Lies was Anton and Annette story. I just didn’t know how much of a treat was waiting for me.
Holy crow! This is the beginning. Like beginning, beginning. I mean literally, how the men in this series start up the Pleasure House. Wow! I am floored. I knew this was a prequel, but I had no idea how far back it would go. It was quite fascinating discovering the origins. I know Ms. Thomas likes to say each book is a stand-alone and can be read in any order. Blah-blah-blah! Take it from a longtime fan, to get the full effect of the books in the Pleasure House world, they NEED TO BE READ in the order they were written: Guilty Pleasures, Broken Dolls, Surrender and now Pretty Lies. The layers that each previous book offers up is important because, without it, you may not get the full WOW! Factor that I have come to experience.
Now onto Annette and Anton. Oh my! I’ve always loved Anton in the series but if it is possible, I love him even more. I’ve always thought Annette was just one of the girls they’ve brought to The House to train and he fell for her. Nope! There’s so much more than that. A twin sister, a trade, a sacrifice. In fact, I feel their story can border almost on a love story. Okay…well, there are a few things that occur that you wouldn’t find in most love stories here but hey, this is Kitty we’re talking.
I’m kind of sad to know this is the last book I will get to experience in the Pleasure House world. Knowing that Ms. Thomas does not write series makes all four books that much more special. For quite some time Broken Dolls was my favorite, that is until this little gem came along. I personally would like to thank Kitty for giving us the one thing I have yet to discover in any of her other books that Pretty Lies gives. Closure.
Pretty Lies is listed as the fourth book in the Pleasure House series by Kitty Thomas. Each story in this series can be read as a stand alone. This one in particular can, because it is actually a prequel to the series, so it takes place first chronologically.
If you’ve never read Kitty Thomas, her books are not romance. Some of them are pretty dark. This one isn’t as dark as some of her other works. I will say this one does have a happy ever after, though many of hers really don’t, in the romance sense of things.
In this story, Annette is working as phone sex operator helping to put her identical twin sister through pre-med school. Annette comes across a very hot guy while she’s out and is really drunk and starts to flirt with him. That really hot Russian was Anton. Then her sister goes for a massage at Anton’s spa. He doesn’t realize they are two different girls. He thinks this is the same girl that flirted, heavily, with him the night before. He decides she should be the first woman to be at his pleasure house.
Anton and his friends decide to come up with this house to train women to be good little submissives for extremely rich men. Anton will use his spa to help try to find women who will be a good fit. They don’t want women who aren’t submissive. They aren’t really looking to break women, but they do want to train them. Dr. Lindsey will use his psychologist practice for the same goal to find women who would fit into the lifestyle (you can now see how this really isn’t a romance novel).
Annette makes a bargain with Anton to exchange her life for her sisters. She will willingly come to live with him and go through training, if her sister is set free. Anton does one better. He offers to pay her sister’s rent and tuition. The sister is required to work part-time at Anton’s spa, to help him keep an eye on her, because let’s face it. What he’s doing isn’t exactly legal.
This story has quite a bit of sex and sexual tension in it. There is BDSM, but that part is entirely consensual, though Annette doesn’t have a safe word. Anton doesn’t ever go too far with her, at least pain wise. I think some of the other stuff she might have safed out, if given the option. Though, she does end up enjoying it in the end. I think the lack of safe word really pushed her further than she would’ve gone if it was available to her. I think it really helped her figure out what she liked.
Kitty Thomas has a way with how she writes. Pretty much everything she writes really pushes boundaries. There is a lot of psychological stuff going on in all of her books (though some more than others. Check out Comfort Food, if you really want a book that will really make you think). There is nothing in these books I would endorse in real life. She often has kidnapped victims in her stories. There is also a lot of coercion in her books. I would never ask for any of her books to happen in real life, but as a fantasy, her books are pretty interesting, and extremely erotic. I’m amazed at how she is able to make like characters I shouldn’t like. Kitty’s books aren’t for everyone, but I think people who give her a try with an open mind, usually enjoy what they read.
DISCLAIMER - This book was "technically" written out of order. If you've read the series prior to this, consider it a bonus book. If this is your first time picking up this series, I would recommend you reading this first and then the series. Or not. To each his own and all that...LOL
Annette is a phone sex operator who's lied so many times, it's become second nature. She lies so much that she's even lying about the littlest of things, unnecessarily so. And these lies catch up to her. While meeting a mysterious man in a bar, she talked a big talk, forgetting that she was speaking to someone in person and not over the phone (we'll blame the alcohol). And although she ends up going home alone that night, her lies cause a chain reaction that will forever change many lives.
Anton is the owner of a spa. Ok, he's also extremely rich, gorgeous, Russian and loves the kink. So much so that he and his friends have started a new business. What's the business? If you're read the series, then you know. If you haven't, well...let's just say it's a training facility... of sorts. After meeting Annette in the bar and listening to all of her kinky thoughts, he was surprised to see her "show up" at his spa considering he never told her where he worked. And so the game begins...
Since I've read the series and this is a bonus book for me, I really loved diving back in to these characters. Seeing how it all began for Annette and Anton was a treat. Totally not what I expected considering how "obedient" she is in the other books. But that's what makes this so good. I was also reminded just how much I love/hate some of the other men (cough cough, Brian). But I digress.
Loved this addition. Gosh I've missed these dark reads from Kitty. So glad to have her back!!!
Not my favourite of the series but still interesting. I just found the plot and the relationship not as satisfying as the others so far. I’m also annoyed this book wasn’t the first one bc that would’ve made a lot more sense. Then it should’ve been books 1-3 to follow.
** I received an ARC (Advance Readers Copy) in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine, and mine alone.
I think I first read Guilty Pleasures back when I was sixteen (I’m twenty-two now), and with every book that’s come out in this series since, I’ve fallen more and more in love with this world! Almost makes you want to be a captive yourself in a house full of domineering men, who will bend you to their will, who will see to it that you exist for their pleasure alone while also bestowing you with as many orgasms as they see fit! Doesn’t seem like such a bad thing to me? ;) All jokes aside, I was so so happy to finally read about Anton and Annette!
If you are a fan of the other books in this series, this one is no different. In fact, I think it’s up there with my favorite of the series, Broken Dolls. (I will never EVER be able to resist Brian so I was so glad he was featured many times throughout.) This one features a cocktail of Kitty’s class formula: forced kidnapping (this one has a twist!), capture-bonding I.E. Stockholm Syndrome, and power exchange.
When I first started reading Pretty Lies, I didn’t really know what to expect. I’d always wondered what an Anton/Annette book would entail but nothing I had imagined while reading the other books in the series came out to be true. To be surprised in that of itself was surprising! And satisfying! I’m so used to reading books that have forced kidnapping incorporated with erotic elements that I’m able to, more often than I like, predict what’s going to happen right before it happens. Not with this one. Phew!
Moving onto the central conflict that occurs within Pretty Lies. This conflict lies between both Anton and Annette (duh!), how he wants Annette’s absolute loyalty and obedience, and how Annette knows she must hold up her end of the bargain to be his slave for the sake of her sister only to find herself falling too instinctively into the role. She’s doing what she must, but that doesn’t mean she should like it! (But really, can you blame her? It’s okay, Annette. I’ll take Anton if you don’t want him.) I was also really surprised to find how conflicted Anton seemed with what he had done. We see this side to him that’s unexpected, one that struggles with his moral code. Never before had he considered himself a monster, just someone who enjoyed the darker side of kink. Forcing Annette to be his ‘real’ slave satisfies a dark need in him he’s never before consciously addressed, and yet, he can’t let go of her. The ambivalence found in both Anton and Annette drive the story of Pretty Lies forward, with no dull moments in sight.
SEX! The sex in this one is, for the lack of a better word, LUSH. Jesus H. Christ. Plenty of new material for the spank bank. We see orgasm denial, F/F play, anal play, sharing, and public sex. Yes, yes to all. I expect nothing less from Thomas in this department. Bravo ;)
Some finals things: if you’re read Guilty Pleasures, Broken Dolls or Surrender, this one is a no brainer. If you just love Thomas, STILL a no brainer. Or just really anything having to do with forced kidnapping or capture bonding with elements of BDSM. I promise you’re gonna love this one as much as I did, and do.
This is the story I've been waiting for since I first read the books in this world. Anton and Annette had this wonderful, warm, settled relationship. You could tell how much they loved each other and how devoted to each other they were. Plus, I always wondered how the house got started, so that's awesome too. You never really think about what it takes to get an operation like that running smoothly, especially if you've only seen it running smoothly.
It was nice to see Anton, who always seemed to have things so together, falter in places and try to figure out what he was doing. We don't always see the Alpha types faltering and screwing up that way, so seeing it here was very nice. Just because they are the boss doesn't mean that they are perfect or know what they are doing all the time, especially in a new setting like the house is now.
I love the title. It fits so well with Annette's job. Pretty lies to make everyone happy and they don't hurt anyone, right? Except, sometimes they do. Annette finds that out first-hand when some of her pretty lies come back and bite her in the rear end.
I just need to say, for the record, that I don't like Lindsay and never have. Brian is still my favorite, even if he doesn't necessarily come off all that well in this one. He's always going to be my fave, but Anton has always been a very, very close second, and this book brought him even closer to a tie with Brian. So very, very, very close.
You now, I read every single KT book - probably multiple times - and this book just hard core made me want to re-read the books related to this world - like, I want more Brian - I want to relive the plant room - I want all of this stuff damnnit!! This book brought into view the creation of the home and program and I thought it was wonderful as all KT books are - seriously, read them - and also - she's an amazingly active author and always answers my stalking posts on Twitter - that alone deserves all the reading of the books..
This was wonderful to go back and hear the beginning of how Pleasure House came to be and how Anton and Annette's journey began. Anton is a hot Russian who oozes charisma and confidence. Annette plays a dangerous game when they meet and she lies and paints herself as someone she definitely is not. And those lies are very punishable. I loved hearing how Phyllis and Shannon came to be in the house.
Wow. It has been a while since I read some of Kitty's work but this so quickly reminded me why I adore her writing. This so dark and sexy and emotional you won't be able to put it down. "just one more chapter" doesn't come close!lol
edited 14 August 2015: Just finished this book again and somehow it was even better than the first time I read it!
Kitty Thomas has written another MUST READ. This was kinky and hot as hell. Be prepared with a dry pair of panties on standby.
First off, I know I’ve read the other books In this series and enjoyed each of them individually. It’s been quite a while so reading it was like visiting an old friend with a new story. I thought I knew what was going on, what was going to happen, what was next, and I was entirely wrong.
This is the prequel to the Pleasure House World. In those three stories, which can all be read as standalone books, Anton and Annette are already a couple. This explains how the Pleasure House was started as a game four friends went from joking about one night that turned into reality. It also sheds more detail into the backgrounds of the four main male characters in the series and explores more of their behaviors. The characters are well developed and the storyline was well crafted. The Author does a great job of weaving the secondary characters into the main story in such a way that makes you eager for more in the series. There’s also more than just the usual alpha Dom/kidnapping story. You get to know Annette and how even though she’s a pretty, little, liar who is a phone sex operator. She’s only been intimate with two men in her life. She never knew her self well enough to know what her desires or needs were, because of the string of lies and fantasies she role plays over the telephone all day, she is a blank canvas for others desires. When she meets Anton, the dark, dominating, Russian at the nightclub, the chemistry is so strong it’s on her mind even with the massive hangover the next day. When Anton mistakingly kidnaps the wrong twin and Annette shows up for a trade (sister for sister) that is an offer Anton cannot turn down. We get to see the strong, fierce, willing to sacrifice herself no matter the cost loyalty Annette has and you also see the scared, unsure, woman with self-esteem issues. Throughout the story she continues to evolve as the Dom/sub relationship between the two intensifies. By the end she has found her happy place where desire, love, and strength have blossomed from her trust and submission. The submission she will only give to one man, Anton. As far as the rest of the men in the house, she stands up and tries to protect the other women even at her own peril. You also see the evolution of Anton and how his character grows from not just the domineering, controlling, intense Russian but to the man who will do anything to protect the woman he loves an cherishes.
That was just an overview of the main plot, do not forget this is Kitty Thomas we are reading, so of course there are lies and deception, darkness that threatens to destroy the trust built between her Master and his kiska, twists and turns that had me holding my breath and flipping each page like a mad woman.
Thank you Kitty Thomas for making sure this was available. It is a Art to be able to write this dark with understanding.
When the man of your dreams turns out to be the man of your dreams?
Annette met Anton at a club and drank too much. She left him behind, but he is on her mind the next morning. She told him everything he wanted to hear, because that is what Annette does. To support herself and her medical school going twin sister, she delivers the fantasy as a phone sex operator. When Anton mistakes her sister for her, her fantasy world just became reality, and it isn't safe at all
Anton believed Annette when she whispered the things she wanted. He figured he was lucky, because he wanted all those depraved things as well. Finding out he'd been lied to, well, he doesn't take that well at all. Ever. At any time. It triggers his inner monster, and he finds out, he likes that monster to come to the surface sometimes. Suave and smooth most of the time, cranky Anton needs to be let loose. Anton never really let him out before, so learning to control him takes a bit
Anton and Annette seem perfect together, then they don't. They comfort each other, then they do their best to hurt the other. They seem to be in sync, then it goes horribly awry. In the end, they are discovering the other side of themselves, and eventually, that the both sides of Anton fit really nicely with both sides of Annette. The clash comes when the non-fitting sides connect, but they realize they can make that work too
Not for the faint of heart, because, *sigh*, Brian is here. Brian truly is evil, mean, and vicious, and wants to murder everyone, though he doesn't. A sadist to the core, he is too much for most people. He is essential to the dynamic of this group of men, and plays his part so well. Gabe is the sweet and gentle peacemaker, but not really. Lindsay is the predator in a suit, seeking out the weak, and offering them for remolding for the men's needs. The dynamics of the men are all over the story, and they are important in creating and maintaining Anton and Annette's relationship
The relationship between Annette, and her twin Janette, is just as important. It even tends to amaze Anton that they so willingly put themselves in danger for the good of the other. All these supporting characters transform as well in their thoughts on Annette and Anton. None wanted it to work, and then they all realized it was the only choice, and finally, they all saw much Anton and Annette needed each other
In the end, Annette and Anton fit together because they figure out what they need, and the other gives them that. They know what the other wants, and they give that to them. Their needs align, and they adjust and delight in letting the other have what they want, because it is what they want as well.
I've read a handful of Kitty Thomas' other books and found I enjoyed how deeply she delved into the psychological aspects of her characters. It's not a thing every author does, but given how dark the story can go, or how extreme, the internal workings of these people she's creating is more important to see. It's something she's very good at.
Pretty Lies is no exception. I can honestly say that while I've read some of her books, I came to Pretty Lies without having read any of the others in her Guilty Pleasures story lines. Given it's more of a prequel that didn't seem to deter my enjoyment of the book, and I brought a fresh eye to it then others might, others who've already read about these characters in other books. For others like me, it's easy to delve into this story and I don't feel like I was struggling to understand any of the people or events that occurred. I will be curious to read some of the books which come after it now and then go back to see what I might have missed, but all in all, it stood alone well and I don't feel I was lost or confused.
The characters were interesting, a realistic mix of flaws and virtues, and a nice, heady chemistry that I was curious about from the summary before I read this book, and was glad to see I liked how it developed. I don't think I ever considered the mindset or work of a phone sex operator before and how that might affect their personal lives outside of work, so that was a new aspect. I liked Annette's character. She didn't feel forced or flat in the writing. Her motivations were understandable. Her actions made sense. her development through the story was intriguing to read. Anton was more complex in some ways... is he bad... is he good... more like a bit of both, that I enjoyed watching develop as well.
By the end of the book I wanted more, and I anted to roll it back to page one and go for another time through, which is always a good hallmark of a book for me. I'm also more curious now about the other secondary characters. What wil Shannon do in the future? How deep do Brian's issues run? I'm curious about Lindsay, who wasn't as present in the book, and I would love to read more on Ivan or Katya... but given there are other books already out, I shall go looking to see if my questions are already answered by Kitty.
For new readers and experienced fans, this book is worth a read if you enjoy darker stories or psychological themes.
A Kitty Thomas masterpiece Wow. Wow wow wow. I loved Anton and Annette’s twisted story.
“It was so much nicer to tell a beautiful lie than a disappointing truth.” I really liked Annette. She’s perfectly flawed; a liar, loyal to her sister and hard working, and so, completely lost. “Where would she find the space to discover her own pleasure when everything about her was such a carefully crafted lie?” Annette is skilled at telling others what they want to hear, never knowing what it is she wants, herself. Yet what happens when she meets someone who sees through her lies? Who sees something in her he wants, but she doesn’t recognize in herself? “I want you to do whatever I tell you every single fucking day for the rest of your life.” Anton wants a “real” master and slave relationship where safe words don’t exist and comfort can be found in complete and total ownership. Where submission is not a role or play time, but the only way to live. “he held the power of life and death over Annette. He didn’t like that this was what excited him—knowing he could do whatever he wanted with her with no limits beyond his own conscience. That kind of power was intoxicating.” If you’ve read Guilty Pleasures, Broken Dolls, or Surrender, you’ll know Anton and Annette. But you can’t really *know* them until you read this story. And with all the little easter eggs spread throughout, it fits perfectly reading Pretty Lies last. Of course, now I think I’ll go re-read all of them. :)
I voluntarily read an ARC of Pretty Lies which in no way affected my leaving this review - that came from my love for the story.
My dislike for this book it's because of this: 1. He is a bad doom .. she was new in this lifestyle and insted of training her he goes with her at a party where he didn't tell her how she must behave and then he punishies her .. 2. He is not man enough to make her want her .. probabily to much efort to makr a woman want you .. so yes why not put some arousel creme on her

Another Kitty Thomas installment, and another reason to come back for more!
This time, we are back at the Pleasure House for more delicious training, but we are going back in time a bit to learn the origin of the House and how Anton and Annette got together. It's not necessary to first read the other Kitty Thomas books that take place in the same world ("Guilty Pleasures", "Broken Dolls", "Surrender") but if you have, there will be "ah-ha" moments that help you fully understand scenes in the previous books.
I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book, and of course it was fantastic. The writing flows smoothly, the story moves along at a nice pace, and there's always a delightful scene just around the corner. I couldn't put it down.
I'm always pleased by Thomas' depiction of D/s or M/s relationships in her novels. They are steeped in fantasy, bringing to life your darkest dreams, but they also feel realistic and gritty, not without ups and downs. Anton is the epitome of sexy...Russian accent, massage therapist, Master of discipline and pleasure. He requires complete obedience from Annette, a phone sex operator and professional liar, who fights against his control, giving in and pushing back the whole way through. There's no insta-obedience with this girl, and Anton has to show her who's boss. This is an element in D/s stories that I crave. Let us see the journey to submission, the struggles, the discipline, and the peace of obedience. Kitty Thomas delivers this dynamic in each of her books, and I will keep coming back each time. Highly recommend for anyone a fan of D/s, kidnapping, capture fantasy, dark romance, and anyone who enjoyed any previous Kitty Thomas books!
Kitty Thomas has never failed to deliver an awesome read and with Pretty Lies, the streak continues. The plot has a faint resemblance to a situation comedy episode identical twins and mistaken identity but this being a Kitty Thomas book you know this case of mistaken identity is going to have a dark twist.
Anton mistakenly kidnaps Janette not knowing that she has an identical twin, Annette. Seems Anton and Annette had met the night before and shared some pretty kinky fantasies. The only thing was that while Anton was into the “lifestyle” and wanting someone like Annette made herself out to be Annette was flirtatiously lying, his fantasies were not hers at all. Yup and that my friend is where the plot thickens b/c it seems that Anton and his friends/business partners are not above murder. Once the error is discovered, Annette offers to trade places with her twin in exchange for her sister’s life and that is all I am going to disclose about the plot except to say the origins of “the house”is revealed here and you’ll be catch glimpses of characters from the Guilty Pleasures world throughout the book.
Annette is brave, pragmatic, strong and cunning and no one's victim no matter what situation she is thrown into you know she will come out on top b/c of who she is. While there might be a few times when you might want to slap Anton hard with your pimp hand you’ll end up loving him too. Beware of Brian he is one scary guy in this book.
Pretty Lies is a fantastic read, I highly recommend it. Pretty Lies is a prequel in the unintentional Guilty Pleasures series but can be read as a stand-alone although I highly recommend reading the other books in the Guilty Pleasures world so you can get to know Anton and his friends.
At long last, we get to read Anton and Annette's story! It wasn't quite what I was expecting, since as the title implies, Annette turns out to be quite the liar, a trait that Anton simply won't tolerate once he gets his hands on her.
Some of the origin story, as we heard it in previous books, is somewhat true. It's just twisted a little...and by "little," I mean quite a bit. Pretty Lies tells the real story of how Annette traded herself for her sister. As with all of Kitty Thomas's books, this story is quite dark and probably not for the faint of heart.
Despite Anton's questionable characteristics, you can't help but love him. I'm not sure I would have liked him as much if I hadn't read the other three Pleasure House books, and already gotten to know him, though. Not to say that Kitty Thomas did a bad job writing him, but he did some pretty questionable things in this story. Pretty Lies can definitely be read as a standalone, but it makes more sense if you've read the other books and already have a feel for the characters (plus you'll catch all the Easter eggs hidden within the story.) Anton has always been my favorite of the men in the series -- must be that hot Russian accent.
I won't give away any spoilers, but I will say that Pretty Lies doesn't disappoint. There's plenty of sexy scenes, as well as some disturbing scenes (involving Brian, of course.) I loved that this story gave us an in-depth look at how Annette came to be Anton's pet, and no it wasn't as easy as she made it seem. Anton and Annette are probably my favorite couple from the Pleasure House universe (if I had to pick just one,) and I really enjoyed their story. Kitty Thomas did a great job, as always.
Excellent book by Kitty Thomas. Just like all her other books that I have read so far. This book is about Anton and Annette’s relationship. So what I understood, it is set up in the Pleasure House world. I have not read any books from that world yet. However all books are standalone and you can read Pretty Lies without reading the other books first (just like I did). And also they can be read in any order, which is great. With that being said I cannot wait to dive into the rest of these books as I really liked Pretty Lies. So it starts with Anton buying this huge house (mantion) with three of his friends. They are going to train women in this house and sell them as slaves, but these women will know what they getting into and they will be willing to do this. So I am assuming the rest of the Pleasure House books are in the same house and most likely about the other three friends of Anton. Annette came to the house as a trade for her sister. Anton really likes her and want her to be his pet (more then just a slave) and he is keeping her for himself. Anton is definitely a bad boy. But the way Kitty write the book I kept changing my mind about him. I couldn’t decide if he was really bad/mean person, or if he was good. Didn’t know if I like him or not and the same goes for Annette. The book is really kinky, dirty with a lots of sex, humiliation but at the same time tenderness and feelings. I really enjoyed this book and I recommend it to anyone that likes kink and hot dangerous alphas. Excellent job Kitty! I am now ready for the rest of Pleasure House books, can’t wait to see what you did with all of the other couples.
!This book contains Kidnapping, Coercion, Group Sex, Public Sex, and Rough Sex.
What’s wrong with a little white lie or two when flirting at the bar? For compulsive liar Annette Waincott and her twin Janette, the consequences for a single drunken night is life altering. A cruel twist of fate puts Janette in Anton Volikov’s path and he mistakes her for Annette and kidnaps her – in what he thought was a play discussed the night before between him and Annette. He takes her to his mansion and holds her captive until Annette trades herself for her sister and becomes the first trainee in the newly established Pleasure House. PRETTY LIES goes all the way back to the beginning of the world created in GUILTY PLEASURES and provides the backstory for some of the House staff as well as the establishment of the training house for submissives. Anton wakes up Annette’s desire to please him and she steals his heart, but events unfold between the trainers and the girls in the house that could destroy everything. This trip back in time is a treat for anyone that has read the other books set in the Pleasure House world (GUILTY PLEASURES, BROKEN DOLLS, and SURRENDER), but, just like the others, it stands alone on its own and the others are not required to get satisfaction from the story. As with all of Kitty Thomas’ books, this is for the mature readers due to its dark erotic tones and themes, though it is more toned down compared to Kitty’s other works in the same world. From start to finish, I devoured this book in a day because I could not put it down.
So here we are, at the beginning, where it all started. Annette and Anton, her the pretty little liar, him the dark Russian to whom a few little white lies told while drunk, turned into a situation.
If you have read any of the training house books before, you may have met the men in the house, but in this novel, it's at the start of their business enterprise, just when they all seem to have a little conscience, well everyone except Brian, because it seems he has been messed up from day one if his behavior toward Annette, Jeanette and Phyllis are any indication.
For me, without giving too much away, I can say this was well written, putting a few pieces of individuals seen in previous novels. the relationship between Anton and Annette started strange and as we read deeper, there are moments where Annette fights her body and her mind, and surprisingly so does Anton.
This novel for me was softer than any of the other books in the series. Written as a standalone, it works magnificently well and even i didn't already own the previous three, i wouldn't have felt i missed out on anything. The author has certainly once again done well with her characters and most people will certainly enjoy this novel. There are a few situations that some readers may find objectionable so if you are a reader prone to 'any and everything is a trigger' then read with caution.
This is a voluntary review of an ARC provided by the author. All opinions are my own.
I loved finding out how the Pleasure House came about. It also gave us all these little nuggets of information about some of the peripheral/secondary characters. Phyllis the lunch lady, well, my opinion about her has changed drastically!
Anton through the previous books seem the more level headed of the men, but boy did he go dark in getting what he wanted from Annette. Annette is actually the first woman taken to the Pleasure House. The idea these unethical men had was that they would manipulate vulnerable women in the kink world and offer them a way to live the life they want- be a sub (slave) to a rich man who would dominate them and take care of them. There are a couple of problems here. It is illegal to sell someone and two of the women decide they don't want to do it after arriving at the house, they have to be eliminated. Annette, well, she didn't come willingly and had no background in kink, so now this whole grand plan of theirs is already going off the rails. Anton wanted her and that was that. There is a lot of group s€x and sharing in this one, which added to the hot factor. There were times Anton pushed her too far, but he always found a way to justify his punishments and methods. Gabe was the only voice of reason. And Brian, oh man, I know he is a monster but even after the incident with Shannon I can't hate him. I think if I had read this book prior to Brian's story, I would definitely hate him for his behavior. I love everything about this series.
