Annabel Chase always delivers with paranormal cozy mysteries and this did not disappoint! This is the last of Bryn's Trilogy but thankfully the Spellslingers Academy will be back for more.

For paranormal cozies I always look at humor, paranormal and mystery aspects. I loved the great pops of humor the author always weaves into the story. As always, she does an excellent job with paranormal and includes a wealth of different beings. It fell apart a little on mystery. It morphed into more action based than mystery but it was definitely a page-turner so only a minor deduction on that.

Annabel Chase always makes sure to add more on character development with each book. It is one of my favorite aspects of her writing. The world building is consistent though in this case because it covered so much with so little time there wasn't the depth I'm used to seeing which is the rest of the deduction.

It still was an excellent read, definitely presents more than just a paranormal cozie, delving into friendship and life lessons. It leaves you both smiling and wishing for more.

Can't wait until the next trilogy starts! Highly recommend for this genre!

Professor Langley still seems to hate Byrn. It doesn't help that she could be responsible for the disappearance of Cerys.

Going back down to the underworld, losing three more people and maybe stirring up some trouble beyond that just adds to her difficulties. Could she get in trouble for killing demons? And what about Gray? Just how intense is their relationship getting to be?

Another really good book in the series.

Quick Trilogy great wrap up

Love the writing, love the characters, and really enjoyed the relationships. You could see a new series or books about the journeys of any of the girls.

I just finished Outlast: Warden of the West by Annabel Chase and I have mixed feelings.

We have again our fantastic pair : Bryn & Gray who are going to team up once again. The structure of the book is exactly the same as the 2 previous ones, but the difference is that this time Bryn searches, for her friend victim of a kidnapping, and not a murderer.

As I read this volume, I was really disturbed by how quickly everything came together. The characters are faced with an obstacle but quicly come out victorious. They then again face a new challenge but come out victorious again very quickly. I regretted a little this predictability, and the lack of suspense and the moments where we wonder: Damn, what’s going happen? Will they get out of it? Etc… Here already know what is going to happen (despite a small surprise at the end, which I didn’t expect).

Despite that, my reading was a pleasant moment due to the writing style of Annabel Chase. She knows how to write a story in a very fluid and pleasant way. This book also had a lot of action from the beginning to the end. Although everything happens too quickly, we must admit that it is rather well-paced, with the different encounters of the demons inhabiting the void. We also find a touch of humor proper to Bryn and his past in Terenne which brings a lot of lightness to the story.

I really enjoyed the fact that the romance between Bryn and Gray finally started. Even if it remains rather superficial. The two protagonists remain very shy but unlike the previous volumes, it finally happens ! But it wasn’t exploited enough in my opinion 😄.

All in all, this volume gives Bryn and Gray’s story a perfect closure. I think I would keep an eye out for the trilogies/duologies dedicated to Cerys, Dani and Mia.

This trilogy was really entertaining, easy to read and I liked reading it. But I think these books were for a younger audience.

Set in the same world as the Spellbound and Starry Hollow books, which I have devoured in a matter of 2 weeks, this trilogy (my review is for all 3 books in Bryn's trilogy) feels slighter darker and more gritty than the others and that is no bad thing. Bryn knows that she has magic but does not realise that there is an entire world which exists entirely of it living parallel to the human one. She finds herself rescued for a dangerous situation and in the Spellslingers school for magical training. There she takes neatly takes the place of a girl who led the school and finds herself on the path of future warden of the west, a concept we were introduced to in Spellbound. I am still hoping we get to find out more about that tie in. There are a couple small nods to the other towns in the magical world and it remains a fun one.

Bryn herself is a survivor and her whole character centres around this. From the very start she has to prove her worth and finds allies, but also enemies in unexpected places. The world has it's darker corners and Bryn gets to experience a lot of that. Her friendship with Gary, the troubled vampire, is a delight and I love that there is a slow burn of friendship before romance here. All in all a great read, I look forward to the next trilogy, although I am disappointed that we won't be continuing with Bryn's.

Outlast is the third book in Annabel Chase's Warden of the West series. This urban fantasy novel follows witch and Warden-in-training, Emma Lane, as she navigates the magical world and solves mysteries. When Emma's roommate goes missing, she must race against time to find her, testing the limits of her magical abilities and resisting the allure of a sexy vampire along the way.

Outlast is a fun and entertaining read that will appeal to fans of urban fantasy and paranormal romance. While the plot may be predictable, the action, humor, and likable characters make up for it.

This book is appropriate for young adults and adults. If you are looking for a lighthearted and entertaining read, Outlast is a good choice.

Pros:

* Action-packed: Outlast is a fast-paced read with plenty of action and suspense.
* Humor: Chase's writing is witty and humorous, making for a fun and engaging read.
* Characters: The characters are well-developed and likable, especially Emma and her friends.
* World-building: The magical world that Chase has created is detailed and imaginative.

Cons:

* Predictable: The mystery is somewhat predictable, and the plot is fairly standard for the genre.
* Romance: The romance is a bit cheesy and underdeveloped.

One of the roommates is kidnapped. The others are determined to get her back. With the help of some old and new friends, they enter an underworld (who knew there is more than one?) to retrieve her. For paranormal cozies I love those that are infused with humor, a variety of all things paranormal and a good mystery.

Annabel Chase always manages the humor well with any of her stories and this one is no exception. There wasn't as much of a mystery, as it quickly became clear what happened to Cerys (Kidnapped and taken to an underworld.) Instead of a mystery, this story was more an action adventure race to save Cerys, with the help of Bryn's usual gang of friends, Grey, Dani and Mia.

This story had an epic saga feel, with multiple trials for Bryn and her friends to overcome in their journey to save Cerys. It was definitely a page-turner and was just plain fun. Overall a great read and solid 3.5 stars.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

How to help friends.

Bryn Morrow is a Warden if the West in training but she also has a father with a reputation as evil and she fears she will end up that way herself.
While out having some fun with her roommates one goes missing and Bryn feels responsible. So with her friends she goes looking and to rescue her friend. The journey takes them to the nether world and some interesting things happen along the way.
Great story and conclusion to Bryn’s part of this journey. Cannot wait to read more in this world.

A story of friendship, discoveries and truths. For Bryn Morrow and Gray Mappleworth, a trip through the underworld, is not straightforward or easy. Each one discovers the truth about themselves. Acceptances of who they are and what they mean to each other. As Bryn fights to save her friend without turning to the dark side, Gray fights to seek revenge for his dead friend. The journey brings them full circle and a new life shared together. A fun read, some humor, some tension and above all some lessons learned.

I have read all 3 book (published so far) in this series; I am really enjoying it. Ms. Chase's style puts me in mind of Charlene Harris. I hope not to offend the author should she read this (eek!), I think her style is geared more to the young adult reader ... it's plainly spoken and does not take a lot of brain power to digest (like stay Anne Rice). I was engaged from the first page, and am greatly enjoying the lighter, comical prose.

A plus, is this is a series I can share / read alongside my mature Tween and us both enjoy

An accidental disappearance..

Cerys and Dani are caught out in the lake when Bryn's magic falters.. Dani swims to safety but there's no sign of Cerys at all.. Theo's investigation appears to show Cerys was taken by a kelpie and he's assuming that they are now searching for a body rather than a live witch. Bryn is determined to consult the Oracle and do everything she possibly can to find her friend even if it means entering the underworld.

Grey, the girls and Robin set off on a mission to find Cerys and experience more than a few familiar faces as well as some new..

Outstanding story

This is an outstanding story great cast of characters and extremely entertaining. Kind of an adult harry potter more stories in a magical world. This author has multiple series based in the same world. Especially yours is in magical University to teach the protectors of the magical world and the real world. I cannot wait to see the next group of stories from the spell slingers Academy. Check out all of this authors series and you will not be disappointed

Jumping in with both feet

Although this was again a good read, it just missed being great. Not really sure what was missing but it felt a bit flat. Kidnapping takes the whole group of friends to the underworld and try to effect a rescue. Lots of magic, supernaturals and of course our intrepid team. However the plot was missing something and the characters seemed to be a bit "out of character". Nevertheless a good solid read.

All 3 books in this series so far are very creative and entertaining from the first sentence to the last.

Annabel has written another series that just goes and doesn't let up, from the first sentence to the last. Very creative and entertaining characters you fall in love with good or evil. You never know what is coming next. I sure hope this isn't the last in this series. I want more, please.

Wonderful Paranormal Series

This was one of the best "short" series I've read in a long while. I do wish there had of been more involved with the blood magic and more of a story line developed around Bryn learning what she could do with it, but this was more of a paranormal mystery series than it was an in-depth witch series.

Very well written and was definitely looking forward top what was going to happen next. I was hooked. Read all three books within a day!

Excellent fantasy fiction.

This trilogy including the first two novels, outcast and outclassed are a fun, well paced story with none of the filler so often found in fantasy works. The hero Bryn is swept away into a magical other realm where she learns about her mysterious father. She has several adventures that tax her ingenuity and growing understanding of her own magical abilities, finding home, love, and happiness along the way. An excellent and we'll written story.

The hallmark of this series is that nothing is earned. Everything is handed out at the whim of the author with no effort to provide grounding. Had I not purchased all three books together in a sale, I would never have gone beyond the first book. That would have been no real loss.

This book is the best of the three, with an actual plot and actual stakes. That does not make it good.

Not recommended.

I love this author and this new series!

These books cannot be written fast enough for me. I read each one as soon as I can, even if I'm in the middle of another book.

The characters are all well-written and likeable and the storylines are interesting and funny. Bryn is a great protagonist with heart. I can't really think of anything I dislike about this series.

Wait...what?

I was thrilled to have book three so quickly. I really like the characters and the academy. However, when I read the author's note after finishing the book, I am sadly disappointed. As the end of this book was drawing closer it felt like an end. I like Bryn and Gray. There is so much more of their story to tell!!!

A Witch And A Vampire Walk Into The Underground

Bryn and Grey with others of Bryn's friends set out to rescue one of her roommates. Bryn is a competent compelling character who keeps getting stronger. I like the action, snarky humor, and budding romance. I look forward to the next book.

Cute trilogy

I liked this trilogy quite a bit. It had some similarities even similar sounding names as HP. Fred & George, evil wizard name similar to voldermort. Idk if that makes it like fan fiction, but I found it mildly distracting. The love interest in the books was truly well written and contained zero smut. The worlds were easily imagined. Well done. Very cute.

Yet another entertaining read.

Book Three is a worthy conclusion of this series. As sad as that made me, I was heartened to hear that a sequel series will be following soon involving the young witch Dani. I fully expect those books will carry forward with great characters and fun stories

I can't get enough of Gray and Morrow. I'm really enjoying this series, although I've loved Chase' other series, this is really captivating my attention. I think the setting helps, the college full of adults essentially, but the mysteries are interesting and the characters resonate with me more than Emma and Daniel. I want to be a warden in a way I never wanted to be in Spellbound.

Couldn't put it down

I highly recommend this series. This is third and final book in the Warden of the West series and I loved it. The story was fast paced and entertaining. The interaction between Bryn and Gray kept me invested in the book. The mystery, demons and action kept me reading all night. Will be reading more of this author.

Final book in the series

Continued on from the last book, with several references to the other books which I always tend to skip where I can (I hate 're reading the same thing over again) found the last few chapters a bit silly if that's the correct word to describe it. Over all was a good finish to the series.

Something lacking

I enjoyed the 3 books, but I felt i recognised bits of Harry Potter coming through each book. All the character's were so nice and there was even a bad professor who turned out to be a friend of the family. On the whole ok for free but I would not have bought the books
