When one of Alice's best customers at the bookshop is murdered, she swears she's going to get to the bottom of it.
But between the new murder, her deepening relationship with Chase - and her guilt over not being able to tell him about her magical powers - and Grandma Cee moving into town to help get rid of the Others once and for all, has Alice finally bitten off more than she can chew?
One thing is for certain: things are definitely getting pretty intense in the normally-sleepy mountain town of Sapphire Village.
Pride and Premeditation is a full-length novel and the fifth book in the Magical Bookshop Mystery series of paranormal cozy mysteries.
Samantha Silver lives in British Columbia, Canada, along with her husband and seventeen-year-old dog named Terra.
When she's not writing cozy mysteries, Samantha loves travelling (she's most recently been to Egypt, Jordan and Florida) skiing, eating Dairy Queen, and complaining about how hard running is.
Highly entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series
This is a highly entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a fun and entertaining storyline. A young woman inherits her aunts a small bookstore in a small mountain town in Oregon. The towns main business is tourism. Mostly humans live there but there’s also a community of paranormal that live there. The young woman who inherited the bookstore once she arrives she meets family that she did not even know she had. Some cousins another aunt and grandmother. She also soon as finds out that she is actually a witch and so is her family. Along with her new powers that she must begin to learn she has a knack for doubling into murder mysteries and other crimes. Along with her cousin she helps solve the crime. As well as her new boyfriend the town sheriff. Even while all that is going on her family must battle a group of soul sucking creatures that attack and suck the souls of witches and their magic out of them. Will they defeat them or will they be destroyed by them. Redial to find out.
Once again Silver can't recall her characters or previous stories.
Repeatedly she refers to Alice having killed two Others yet Alice has killed 4.
Vanessa showed no reaction to Iris, who she went out of her way to get fired despite having known her from high school and knowing that she was in a relationship with Polly.. I find it hard to believe. That Kyle would run off with the person who killed his fiancée.. how could Vicky be sure Kyle was the intended victim? It could have been Iris, Polly or someone else altogether.. there's no proof beyond that Vanessa had the poison. That they assume that the entire group of The Others was exactly ten people.. the FOUR Alice killed in previous books and six more including the big one!! Seriously.. nothing better than the big one.. is Denise Williams loosely based on Donald Trump?? Claiming the election rigged if she doesn't win.. sounds awfully familiar..
A solid cozy but for me a disappointing one. After all the excitement of the previous books it seemed to end with a whisper and not a bang. Her bookstore is doing well and her new idea of a book club should have been a good one. That is until one of its participants end up dead. Was it a suicide or murder? The leads they find out seem to conflict with each other. What about the Others - do the girls have to live in fear for the rest of their lives? Will she ever be able to share the knowledge of being a witch with Chase? As mentioned the plot was good to a certain point and then it just lost steam. Plus the characters didn't seem a as good as in previous books.
The whole series has an excellent background and storyboard, but it just falls so flat. The amorphous Others aren’t scary because they’re never defined as anything but Others with capes. The relationships aren’t delved into, for example, Alice is all of a sudden in love with Chase? And we got to see one ski date and a few quick lunches? Granny Cee wants to be Amanda M. Lee’s Aunt Tilley but is just mean and not a bit endearing. I made it through the whole series but it’s not on the same par as Lee’s cozies. Good for a quick read and not-in-depth story.
I've read all 5 and loved all 5. I'm looking forward to the 6th in 2019. These are cozy mysteries. Not in depth "spy" novels or intricate police novels. Just simple, fun books. The logic is fine; the plots interesting and believable characters even tho the main characters are witches. Just good old fashioned fun to read.
The entire Magical Bookshop series is fun reading with interesting characters, and this one does not disappoint. My only question: because of the way this story ends is this the end of the series? I rather hope not. I'd like to see more about Alice, Cat, Peaches, and, especially, Grandma Cee.
This series is very enjoyable. The characters are all well written and likeable. A woman is murdered in Alice's shop so she and her cousin Cat try to find out who did it. This book has an interesting twist that I didnt figure out.
A mayoral election, the Others, a book club reading of Pride and Prejudice. Chase and Alice dating. Cat and Alice try to bring Peaches back to Sapphire Village. Quick and easy to understand. Read and enjoy!
This is the 5th book and I was hooked reading the series and cant wait to read for the last one. I love the part when Alice was with Chase. It felt like I was there as Alice as I described Chase as Liam Hemsworth XD
I loved reading this book. I like Alice and Chase together. Alice, Cat and Peaches make a great team. The parts with Denise always make me laugh. Thanks for making me smile. 😊😊
