Mail Order Mounties #23

RNWMP: Bride for Bryce

Rate this book
A true love story never ends. But first it has to start.

Nettie Smith is a writer in search of a story. When her editor gives her a chance to write a salacious exposé about a madam who caters to Mounties, she knows it will be her big break. There’s only one catch: She must go undercover as a mail-order bride.

The more time Nettie spends with Miss Hazel and her fellow brides, the more she realizes how wrong her editor was about the woman’s intentions. When the Mountie she was supposed to have married dies before her arrival on Prince Edward Island, she knows she should return to Ottawa. But the charming Scottish Mountie who replaces her “fiancé” gives her an idea for a very different type of story.

A love story.

Now she just needs to convince him to be the hero.

IT’S IMPORTANT TO MAINTAIN YOUR JOURNALISTIC INTEGRITY

The stories are the creation of talented multi-authors and each focus on Miss Hazel Hughes, a self-appointed matchmaker and the mail-order brides she locates for single members of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police. Each story in this series will read as a standalone. The story is a clean historical situated in Canada with a great cast of characters and plenty of humor. This story will take the reader on a journey of discovery and will bring the con-artist and law enforcement together in marriage.

Nettie Smith wants to be a journalist, investigating and reporting on stories, but the best she has been able to manage is to write a household column under the title of Mrs. Nettie. But even that is a farce in itself because she has no clue how to run a household, cook, clean, and must inquire of her parent's housekeeper for answers and recipes.

Mountie Bryce Muir is between assignment and visiting her family in Ottawa. It seems his family thinks his career as a Mountie is fleeting and that he will stop and join his father and brothers in their accounting firm, but that isn’t him. Then at dinner, there is a former girlfriend, and apparently, the family thinks they will get back together. Lucky for him, he receives a telegram telling him he needs to report to his newest duty station of Prince Edward Island.

The plot will have Nettie’s boss telling her that he has the perfect assignment, one that only a woman can accomplish. She must sign up with Miss Hazel to become a mail-order bride for an RNWMP at a remote station. He assures her she will not have to marry, but just get the story, because he is sure this is a scam, that these women aren’t brides but used for something more nefarious, maybe prostitution.

The train ride will include Miss Hazel, three other brides besides Nettie, and at the last minute, a Mountie by the name of Bryce Muir. During the trip, Nettie will record in a fancy journal, like a diary everything she sees, hears, and encounters for her story. But nothing seems out of place, Miss Hazel is a sweet woman, and the three ladies are excited to marry. But what happens when after the train and ferry they arrive there are only three Mounties and learn that Nettie’s intended, Timothy, was murdered the night before?

Nettie may have her reprieve from a bogus marriage, but she learns quickly that the other three ladies were indeed to be brides to the Mounties that Miss Hazel and arranged. Not only that but that Miss Hazel is genuinely concerned about the shock that Nettie must be experiencing to learn her intended groom has passed. That only adds to her guilt in deceiving everyone.

There is volatile chemistry between Bryce and Nettie, but they are also as different as night and day, while he loves everything about the outdoors, she detests it.

“I always seem able to make friends where I go. Besides, as long as I can get outside, I’m never lonely. Nature is my best friend, my mistress if you don’t mind the language.”

What happens when Nettie makes her confession to Bryce about her true reason for being sent to Prince Edward Island as a Mail-order Bride? They had had a rocky friendship, and just when she realizes she has feelings for him, she must be honest too. Will he understand, or will he despise her deceit?

“Never wanted to deceive anyone? Of course, you did! That was your entire mission! I think you should leave. I mean Bison Bay. You should go back where you belong.”

The story will take on a danger that places them in a life and death situation. What will be the outcome of their treacherous adventure on the water with a killer? Will they live to see another day, or will this truly be goodbye?

Nettie was supposed to be writing up a story about Miss Hazel and her brides for the mounties. Her boss thinks there is more than what is really going on so she agrees.

Timothy, the mountie she is supposed to marry is waiting on her but she will not go through with it. She has made up her mind.

On the train she meets another mountie Bryce, who is going to the same station. They can’t keep their eyes off each other but Nettie is helping her friend Kathrine from being sick and knows she has to meet Timothy.

When the ladies arrives they learn that Timothy has been murdered so what happens now to Nettie?

The characters were great and it was nice to see some antics that are usually in all the stories. The flying squirrel and to see what will Nettie do.

What a fun read full of smiles and laughs, it is a book that will hold your attention keeping you invested until the last page. I read this at one setting I just couldn’t put it down. It is a unique story with a fresh look at mail order brides. I really enjoyed how the author spins this with some wonderful twists, it is engaging, well paced and a delightful read. The characters are easy to get to know, they are likable, it is well written as the author grabs your attention from the start until the finish.

There are secrets Nettie is hiding, poor Bryce doesn’t want to get married Nettie wants to make her family proud they have some high standard that this trip should be able to make her dreams come true. Once she gets to know the people her views change. You have to wonder just what the outcome will be when her secret comes out.

I found this very entertaining, the author knows how to pull her reader in giving you an exciting fun read that is thrilling and exciting. I laughed so hard as these two work through the issues and filled many hours for me of a very pleasant read that I will re-read again. Each book in this series is a stand-alone by some very talented authors I hope you pick one up and see the new world as the Mounties take wives and all that goes along with it.

Nettie has a dream. To become a journalist. But stuck in the rut of her column writing as Mrs. Nettie she would do almost anything. And when he boss comes to her with a job only she can do she jumps at the chance.

Bryce is on to new places. New postings with the Mounties he's excited. Nothing he loves more than being out in nature. With no plans to wed on the horizon he is ready for his new place in life.

Nettie arrives expecting to play her part and for stall a marriage but she finds her husband to be murders, and Bryce in his place. After meeting on the train they were intruiged with one another but never did they believe it could be more. Until they are thrown together and grow closer.

But with their relationship starting out on lies, can Nettie make Bryce forgive her and find her place away from her family in the city? Will Bryce believe in love and overcome his hurt and distrust? Always love the Mail Order Mountie books and this one was ever so clever and sweet! Can't wait for more!

Uncovering a new story of love!

Bride for Bryce is a well-written and unique story. The story line is fresh and moves along at a steady pace while being engaging, appealing and attention grabbing. This story hooked me from the very start and I could not put it down. The characters are easy to connect with and well developed. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and like that the author doesn’t make the relationship easy.

Cassie Hayes knows how to create a story with enough romance and action to keep the reader entertained and fascinated. This is another brilliant book from a remarkably talented author. Cassie Hayes is one of my top go-to authors. She writes incredible stories that do not leave me disappointed. Even though this is part of a series, each book can be read as a stand-alone. I am anxiously waiting to read more in this series.

If you are looking for an outstanding romance then I recommend any book from Cassie Hayes. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a heartwarming and sweet romance with the happy-ending we come to expect.

Cute story of an aspiring journalist, currently writing a household hints column, who goes undercover as a mail-order type bride for a Mountie, along with a group of three other young women. No letters are exchanged; instead, the mother of a Mountie arranges the marriages after interviewing potential brides.

Nettie, the aspiring journalist, arrives in Bison Bay on Prince Edward Island. Already fairly certain that her editor was wrong—he believed the woman was running a prostitution ring—she learns on arrival that her potential groom was murdered the previous day. As she watches the other young women and their potential husbands, she is attracted to the Mountie who travelled on the same train and ferry that she and the other brides did.

After the first two young ladies marry their Mounties, Nettie nurses the third one, who has been ill. She, too, intends to marry when she recovers. Her story mostly written, and not what her editor is expecting, she considers taking a job as the town school mistress, believing she will lose her newspaper job when her editor reads her story.

But fate has something else in store. Will Nettie find more than she expected in Bison Bay? Is a happy ending possible for her?

There is a lot of telling, and some showing, in this book, but more of the latter would have made the story more believable.

Cassie Hayes did it again. Nettie sets out to expose Miss Hazel because her boss has browbeaten her into a story in order to become a reporter instead of a columnist. Can she do it? Mystery, a little intrigue and a ton of laughter bring you another great story set on Prince Edward Island.
Bryce comes on the same train as Miss Hazel and the 4 women set to marry Mounties. He is not one of them. He was sent here for a very different reason to replace someone. He has declared he will not marry. The moment he lays eyes on Nettie electricity sparks. Throughout the story You will be delighted, frustrated, and laugh a lot! Rocky the flying squirrel is a HOOT.
Sit back and enjoy the latest Mail Order Mountie book. You are going to love it!

It's a delightful book. It is different from the other Bride's story. Nettie, writes a column for the local newspaper.
She wants to do more than write puffed pieces for the paper.
Nettie is asked to write an article on Miss Hazel. Her editor
thinks there's more to her "matchmaking", then meets the eye.
Bryce is home for a visit. Ready for his next assignment.
His family is pressuring him about his job, & getting married.
He is asked to report to Prince Edward Island. While traveling on
the train, Bryce see's the most beautiful woman. Nettie.
I really enjoyed reading this story!!
A MUST READ FOR EVERYONE!!

Ms. Hayes had once again created a good story with humor mixed in.

Nettie had no intention or interest in marrying a Mountie. She headed to PEI for a story and a way to further her career.

Bryce isn’t interested in marriage either. He is looking forward to doing his duty and enjoying all the nature that PEI offers.

These two are going to find out that life throws you curves and Love is one of them.

Great story that leave you with a happy feeling.

My favorite so far

I've been busy binge reading all the books in these series. I have to say that those written by Me Hates are by far my favorite. Although the books are short the character development is well done and allows them to develop without feeling rushed. The humor keeps me smiling as well. Although Monty the moose will always be my favorite Rocky's antics are also fun. I look forward to reading other books by this author

Nice Story!

This is the second story in this setting, Prince Edward Island. The story arc is a bit different because the lead female is on an undercover writing assignment. The lead male character has sworn to never marry. Rocky the flying squirrel makes his appearance. As typical, there is a job for the Mounties , in this case to catch a murderer , and that part of the plot is added to. It's quite an interesting series.

An unexpected twist

This mail order book has a little twist from the usual stories. Bryce is a Mountie who has no desire to marry and Nettie is a mail order bride with a secret. Cassie Hayes brings us a story of lots of the unexpected . Things often don't work as planned but this made for a different sweet read. I really enjoyed the book.

Bryce and Nettie
Another great story in this series. This story has a satisfying HEA. I won't say complete because I feel that this story was slightly incomplete. Did she continue to write? What happened to the McDonald family?
