Rate this book
After years of bad grades, brutal scoldings, and violent wedgies, Derek Slothman believes that there is only one way to escape middle school: to become famous. While his logic may be flawed and his self-awareness lacking, the former child actor will stop at nothing to become the world’s most beloved VideoTube star. With the help of a wannabe superhero and an overly-dedicated safety patrol captain, Derek films his visions of impractical stunts and reckless pranks. Nothing can stand in the way of Derek and fame, especially not his friends’ safety.

I loved this book! The quirky humor appeals to readers in the middle grades. Additionally, it is full of positive messages for kids, such as being yourself (even if others think you're weird), enjoying life experiences (instead of just capturing them for the views and likes), and persisting (even when it feels like the world is against you). I can't wait for volume two!

Gave my class some laughs and most of the students had much to say about the characters and what they thought. They very much enjoyed the antics of these video makers (what's a video - that box thing that old people used to use - lol). Even as an adult, I enjoyed the story.
