And how thoroughly Shay mystifies Brownstone requesting waiters with white towels over their arms.

The Painful Learning Curve

If you come after Brownstone, pray that the Cops or Marines get you first. Even his mercy comes with a lot of pain. I very much enjoy the action on top of action. Snarky humor abounds as James takes on many enemies at a time. Shay is puzzled about James' feelings for her. Shay is a complete puzzle to Brownstone. He has no clue. Feelings for people are new for him. What do you suppose the amulet is trying to whisper to him? I look forward to the next book.

Oh my!

Talk about an action-packed, fast-moving, powerfully controlled piece of writing!

I'm used to Michael's writing style from his Kurtherian Gambit books, but this one beats even them.

I sat, absolutely spellbound, and unintentionally holding my breath for far too long, for the most part, as I read this book, and my jaw dropped at some of James's moves!

The confidence that this man has, in his abilities, no matter how well earned, made me shake my head in disbelief - but I enjoyed every single word of it!

Strangely, I don't find any kind of dichotomy in James's actions against those who deserve it, with the care he takes in Alison's wellbeing.

Even with Shay, as much as she's shown him that she can look after herself, there's still a caring about her wellbeing in his actions - and I'm so looking forwards to reading further about all of their relationships, as this series progresses.

James's life is such a mystery, and I'm really hoping that, with every book I read in this series, that I'll learn more - especially about the artifact he uses. I also want to know why he has no memories of being found, or of the language he spoke then.

I'd also like to know how his beloved Father Thomas died, and why.

To start to do that, I need to go on to the next book in this absolutely awesome series but, as I just looked at my reading list, for the first time since I started reading this series, I realise that I got so into it, that I haven't been following the chronological list that I should have been.

I should have been reading the series: ' I Fear No Evil,' and ' School of Necessary Magic', in between each of James's series 'The Unbelievable Mr Brownstone'!

As I'm desperate to keep on with James's story, I think I'm going to keep on reading it, at least up to book six, then start reading IFNE, and SoNM, alternately, until I get back to the proper reading list again so, until then, I'm going on to book four of TUMB,, which is: 'Bring the Pain'.

Once I've read this, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know if it stays just as awesome as I hope it will!

P.S: I don't actually remember eating Barbecue - that's Barbecue US style - in, my life, here in the UK, but I have to admit that James's addiction to it is making me very curious to try some, one day! 🤣

5 A Few Flashy Displays Of Ultraviolence Stars

Eye For An Eye is the third book in The Unbelievable Mr. Brownstone series by Michael Anderle.

What a way to send a message Brownstone! The perfect ending. I wonder if the Hiraken will accept their defeat in the United States, or try to move back in? Possibly continue going after James in some fashion, after taking such a heavy hit? I don't think the dishonor of it all will allow them to take the warning to heart.

Those AET guys, especially Lieutenant Hall, are out of their minds. She must have something against Oricerans in all forms, for her level of hatred. Given all the good that Brownstone has done taking out such heavy bounties, that she probably couldn't even touch, it's obvious at least a little of her distinct dislike is wounded pride.

I need answers to this freaking necklace he wears! It kind of seemed like it was trying to warn him about the Masamune sword being capable of wounding him, near the end there. Just because the voice from the necklace sounds creepy whispering at him, doesn't mean it's evil incarnate. I'm so desperate for information regarding his origins already!! But it's only book three, hopefully he will eventually accept his magical nature and actively search for information to discover his origins and how it ties to the necklace. Father McCartney told him he at least previously had recordings of the language he spoke when they first found him, that seems like the perfect place to start.

I wonder if Shay will keep the sword? It's the first gift he's truly given her, and while it might be collectively considered romantic. I think her reaction to jealousy is a perfect example of the type of relationship they'll share when they finally do reach that point.

Unexpected twist and turns and awesome dialogue gives this book a supreme rating!

Book 3 of the series really highlights how truly Unbelievable Mr Brownstone is. After his dressing-down at the clan's Japan home base, which included the loss of his hand, Jiro Ikeda returns to his position, still leader of the American branch of the Harriken. Tasked with taking James Brownstone out for the disrespect he showed to the Clan (killing the whole LA branch), Jiro puts out a bounty starting at a half a million dollars for Mr Brownstone's head. This brings every assassin out of the woodwork along with some assassin want-a-bes. James sends Shay to make sure Alison's safe in Virginia while he takes on, what sometimes seems, the entire LA underworld. Lots of action and adventure along with some unexpected twists that had me laughing out loud and cheering James on. Always love the Author's notes at the end of his books, sort of like the whip cream on top of a fantastic dessert. But including an interview with James by Michael within the Author's notes was like having a cherry and nuts 🍧 added too. Hope Micheal doesn't leave us waiting too long until the next book comes out! Bad enough having to wait for the next Bethany Ann series!! LOL 😄!!

OK., I have FINALLY realized that each of James Brownstone's books is essentially a focused episode of adventure, mayhem, etc. That makes it a bit difficult given the price of each book, however I will hang in there and essentially won't finish the series as fast as I'd like. I want to know how James ends up, how Alison turns out, and how Shay fits into the grand scheme of things.
I like James Brownstone. He is a super-focused man with few things on which to focus but apprehending/killing baddies for bounty, watching barbecue shows (I love that!), eating said barbecue, taking care of Alison, and I hope, finding another puppy dog (RIP Leeroy). He needs a doggie's cold nose and doggie smooches in his life.
One very positive thing about James Brownstone is his variety of friends; certain cops, a neighborhood gang, his favorite barbecue joints, and maybe most of all his church. They respect him and in turn he respects and for some, protects them. One could say he is a well-rounded person.
I like these books and will continue reading them.

Urban fantasy filled with action and adventure

As advertised. This is an urban fantasy action-adventure series. Also this is one of miniseries set in this magical world. It is earth in the near future and magic has returned. All of the mist and legends of wizards which is elves etc. that come from history past come to find out are true and have just been hidden for centuries. There are two worlds earth and another magical world that are linked by portals and magic is once again roaming earth. James brown stone is a class six bounty hunter who chases down criminals are use magic to do evil. I think dog the bounty hunter terminator and Rambo and mold them all into one and that is James brown stone. Awesome Siri check it out

Another adrenalin-filled action movie packed into book format. This one was very reminiscent of John Wick in many ways. The book is well written and has more than enough humor to help de-escalate things when it starts to get to much.

Sometimes though, it does get a little intense. Some scenes just are a little bit… overdone. Too many things go Brownstone’s way to often. Even the luckiest people I know aren’t that lucky. Then again they aren’t as prepared for trouble as Brownstone is.

Overall, fast paced and a fun ride. I enjoyed this book immensely, even though the signed barbeque books were lost, which is a horrible crime that Brownstone must punish.

More action than any movie!

This book will keep you in suspense until the very end. It even became plausible that Mr. Brownstone might die. Since there are several more books in his series, I assumed he had to live, somehow. Between laughing, holding your breath, putting off lunch and/or dinner, and not falling off your chair as you are sitting on the very edge of it, finally getting to the end of this novel let me breathe easier. Whew! What an exciting ride! Words fail me. Read this book. Better yet, start at book 1 and read the series. You will be glad you did.

Still enjoying his writing

I liked the story, and the way Shay took care of the PMC issue at the end. I look forward to how these 3 characters will evolve, and the various dances around relationships should be entertaining to say the least.

I enjoyed the interview epilogue, but I'm not sure how much I want to continue hearing about bar-b-q. Oh well, now I'm off to read the 1st Shay novel.

Ohhh Mr. Brownstone!

James has every bad guy on his fine backside and now he has to figure out how to kill them all or at least make sure they don't kill him. With the a little help of the professor, his police pals and a surprising group, he may just make it. Another wild ride with James and of course, during the fight of his life, he still finds time for BBQ. By the way, because I am reading these books and had a craving, my family had BBQ pork for dinner tonight!

Impossible!

James is just going to have to live with memories of his rare signed BBQ books. They were roasted in his house fire. Caused by Harrikken syndicate who thought it was disrespectful to turn kidnap squad into room temperature displays. Going back to Brownstones house to kill his dog Leroy was indeed a ill plan.

Brownstone strikes again......

This is the 3rd book in the series and it keeps getting better with each book. James Brownstone along with Shay and Allison all come alive on the pages. James and Shay find out that they each have a lot to offer someone, if they only would allow themselves to caring. Damn good book.

Good read thought ever page.

This was a very engaging story that fits in well with the two previous books and continues to develop the characters and the story line. I enjoyed this book and the ending fits well with a reluctant hero who does what has to be done, to save the ones he loves. This is a good read, I enjoyed every page.

I. LOVE. BROWNSTONE!!!!!!

I was laughing soooooo hard!!! 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you, Michael, for your awesome sense of humour to offset some of the heavier, gorier events.

The plot development is excellent, of course and as expected, with some fun twists, dark characters, and a very ticked off James Brownstone.

The author's notes are a MUST read. Also very entertaining.

Good Solid story

This is the third book of the series. It is a solid story with a simple plot: don't mess with Brownstone or his dog or his kid. A decent amount of action, zero sex, and a happy ever after ending. I enjoyed reading it on the plane ride. I look forward to reading more from this author. Warning, you do need to read this series in order.

This was a fairly simple all action story, but with enough twists to make it interesting. In fact it’s the simplicity and coherence of the story that make it such an enjoyable read. The characters are a bit ‘comic book’ and at times become caricatures, but it doesn’t stop me liking Brownstone, Shay and Alison.

Loving this series

This series is great to read, cool weapons and killing of bad guys and even a possible love interest to round things out.
This series is a great read for people that like a lot of action and bad guys getting what they deserve. If you don’t, if you want to read romance or something like that, find it elsewhere.

Quick and easy read

I started this book and ended it in the same day. The book was fun with a few grammar errors still in place. However, spoiler alert; Shay isn't here as much sadlyy. However because she isn't helps the end of the book immensely!!

Have fun! Oh!!!! And read the author's notes... Hilarious!

Just as entertaining as the previous two. Brownstone's method for dealing with an army of hitmen made me laugh out loud, even though I should have guessed it since I live in the general area.

The developing relationship between Brownstone and Shay is promising.

And, of course, lots of clever responses to simple violence.

If you enjoyed the first two, don't hesitate.

Started this series because of the narrator; was quickly drawn into the story by the plot, characters and entertaining writing style.
Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Woah, this one was intense, action-packed from the very beginning, there are a few moments where you question the outcome of James living or dying. I loved how Alison is at the School of Necessary Magic and starts calling Shay, Aunt Shay. Alison has her own series at the school and another series that takes place after. It had some hilarious dialogue and some twists and turns.

Excellent

Excellent as always from Michael. Our sense of humor is very similar. I enjoy a story, that makes me laugh out loud. With characters that come alive, not from their strengths but their weaknesses and flaws. That is the truth of humanity.

Go Mr. B

I absolutely loved the fight scenes...well ok the whole book was one fight scene after another. I'm looking forward to finding out if Mr. B is all human. Maybe we can have a reveal in the next book. Excellent writing and Death to all Harrikans.

A team?

Great job. Is there a possible team? Kinda think James, Sky, and Allison would kick ass. Will James find out his past, just who he is? All these things and others make this a story.

Another fun story

Great characters and good narrative writing. Strong language but it's needed in the story. James initiates some serious mayhem in this one and none of the bad guys go home. Need more Mr. Brownstone.
