“He wasn’t a gargoyle. He was a grotesque. There’s a difference.”
Cassia and Stanley are confronted with the suspicious death of a grotesque. He was pushed from a roof in the magical town of Brimstone — according to the gargoyle who found him. The same gargoyle has a deep dislike for grotesques and instantly becomes a suspect for the investigating duo.
Cassia looks to the residents of Brimstone for help with the investigation, but to her dismay, she discovers they’ve been transfixed by the intoxicating tales from a storyteller called Quinn Ocean. Quinn captivates his audience to the extent they are unaware of the outside world. Stanley immediately distrusts him.
As their investigation continues, it becomes clear to Cassia and Stanley the murder of the grotesque is linked to the arrival of the storyteller. But how can they prove that when the Brimstone residents are in awe of him? Even when they have evidence, will anyone believe them? They have no option but to look for help elsewhere.

April Fernsby lives in the north of England in a county called Yorkshire. Yorkshire has its fair share of hauntings and supernatural events, including a witch called Mary Bateman, aka The Yorkshire Witch, whose skeleton now hangs in a local museum.
April loves all things supernatural and mysterious. Her favourite book as a child was ‘The Faraway Tree’ as it took the reader into a different world where unusual creatures lived. April looked for a similar tree near her house but never found it.
Her Brimstone Witch series involves the main character, Cassia Winter, going through a cellar door and into another world where magical creatures live, and mysteries abound.
A Grotesque Murder by April Fernsby is another cute cozy paranormal mystery with witches, lots of colorful characters of Brimstone, and our Guardian witch and her cat. Always a fun and easy read.
kindle unlimied but got it on a freebie day, last couple ones been a bit 'off' when reading just not quite enough to take a star or whatever off

The Grotesque Murder (A Brimstone Witch Mystery Book 11)
So far, so good. This was a great book. Cassia and Stanley did it again. They are starting (in book 11/13) to learn that they are not alone in their adventures, and there is a lot of people they can trust. After so many fiascos with Blythe and Esther, I understand now why Cassia never went to them - they are useless 9.5/10 times. Of course, if the "most powerful witches" are useless, you're going to feel you're the only one who can fix everything. Cassia has been deceived so many times before her trust issues make sense. Even Stanley let her down once. He was under a spell, but still. This has been a great adventure. I like the references between towns and how the characters are mentioned books later, but there are still some characters that seem "important" just to never be mentioned again (either in its or any other book). I liked how this one developed. The plot twist was something I had not even thought of. It was surprisingly well elaborated. The first 90% of the book is Cassia and Stanley's adventure and the last 10% is the mystery getting resolved with the aftermath but this is how these books are. 4 out of 5 stars.
When a storyteller comes to town, all hell breaks loose. The townsfolk think he's wonderful, but there's a hidden side to him that Cassia and Stanley will soon find out about. When they find one of the towns sentries killed, another murder mystery begins. Knowing it had something to do with the new storyteller, they have to prove. Finding a cave with a few thousand Golem, they realize the situation is dire. Hoping from town to town, they see that Brimstone isn't the only town that's been affected. In the end, they always solve their mysteries, and this time is no different. The difference is that everyone they love is in danger this time. Can they solve this one quick enough to ensure their safety and the ones they love? Read on to find out. I'm on to the next adventure!
The bird of happiness, or should it be the butterflies?
Another OTT zany book inn the series. Alright we know from the start who the "baddie" is, or do we? Lots of magic, deception and malice are interwoven into a quirky plot. The visit of a travelling storyteller coincides with the death of two grotesque brothers? Is it just a coincidence or is there a more nefarious plan afoot. As our justice witch delves deeper, she unravels a plot that has hurt other towns and now her beloved Brimstone is in the firing line. Quirky, zany characters and plot for all you lovers of this series. Possibly not as good as previous books but still a good read.
We're back with Cassia, her Gram and Stanley the cat. In Brimstone a traveling story teller by the name of Quinn Ocean has arrived in a chariot made up of black butterflies. Everyone in Brimstone seems to be enchanted with Ocean including Ester and Blyth. Nobody seems to have time for anything else, just listening to his stories. I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Another great Brimstone mystery! Me Fernsby has a great series. Stanley( whom I really love) plays an important part in this story! Cassie travels all over the place. Blythe and Gram aren't themselves. Cassie has a huge mystery on her hands,c and meets several new friends. I hope to see some again in future stories
April Fernsby never ceases to amaze me. She has done it again. Her descriptions of the differences between the gargoyles and the grotesques bring them to life. Relloc is an original with the temperament one would expect from a gargoyle. Highly recommend this series to one and all. ENJOY!
What can I say? I just love her books and I believe she did great job on them! She is one of my favorite authors! I am very happy with all her books! ☺💜💛💚💙! I am not disappointed, I have no bad thoughts about her books! I hope she write another books pretty soon! I can't wait read more books from her! ☺💜💛💚💙! I would give her more than five 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 for rate! ☺💜💛💚💙!
Cassia and Stanley have the best adventures. Every trip to Brimstone is so much fun. A Grotesque Murder is a great mystery that will take you by surprise as well as getting to catch up with Brimstone friends.
There is a difference between a Grotesque and a Gargoyle. Something very strange is going on in Brimstone! And what is a Gollum? Wizards and Life Givers weave a good tale!
Another cool cozy mystery from this author. with another strange twist. I so love the twists that come our way from her.. Can't wait to see what comes next!
Best book ever!!!!! The style of writing has changed so much. Gone is the overly girlie lovey feeling and replaced with a much more mature theme. Loved it x
