Baller

Rate this book
When Kenley Mitchell loses her job and her boyfriend all in one week, she decides to cash in her severance pay and book a week-long trip to Florida. A relaxing vacation by the beach is just what she needs – she’ll lose herself in the sand and the sun, doing her best to forget all her problems. But on her first night there, Kenley runs into star baseball player Jake Easton. The only problem? She has no idea who he is -- until after a paparazzi camera catches her in a, uh, compromising position with the hot first baseman. Jake’s trip to Florida was supposed to be business only. He’s just about to land a multi-million dollar endorsement deal with Expera Footwear, and he doesn’t need any distractions. But when paparazzi pictures of him and Kenley surface in the tabloids, Expera is not happy. They don’t want Jake’s dalliances messing up their family friendly reputation – so Jake does the only thing he can do, and tells them that Kenley’s his girlfriend. Of course, now he has to somehow convince Kenley to go along with his plan. Kenley wouldn’t have even been in those stupid pictures if Jake hadn’t been acting like a manipulative womanizer, and so at first she says no way to his crazy scheme. As far as she’s concerned, he doesn’t deserve her help with anything. But when he makes her an offer she can’t refuse, Kenley somehow finds herself signing up for a stint as his fake girlfriend. She knows it sounds crazy, but whatever. It’ll be strictly business, right? But when the sparks start to fly, Kenley and Jake are going to have to figure out what’s real, and what isn’t. And they just might be surprised at the answer…. Baller was previously published as Heat Of The Moment.

This Part one got me hook have to know what happens. Leaves you begging for more, see this part one is a teaser but boy it hooks you good, And gives you a great visual of the story as you are reading it. I read it within a few hours and I meant to give my review right away but things in life happen. (I have MS) Back to the story. Kenley Mitchell and Jake Easton they have a lot of sparks going on with their first kiss that leaves Jake wondering what just happened? Being a famous baseball player he assumed she was someone that could help him land a job but he was so wrong. But he finds out when he goes chasing after her. That is when the story gets really interesting. I gave this part one of this book series 5 stars since it has great potential to be an awesome book. Now to get a hold of part 2 and part 3. I was given an ARC copy voluntary by the author on book sprout, and my review in my own opinion.

It started with Kenley Mitchell losing her job and her boyfriend in the same week. Kenley took her severance and saving on a vacation to Florida. That is where she meets Jake Easton famous baseball player.

Kenley was at the bar drinking a Pina colada writing down all that went wrong, 1st she lost her job working as a mortgage broker in a bank, 2nd her boyfriend Jeremy broke up with her. Bartender notice what she was writing as he placed another drink in front of her and stated "you lost your job" Kenley was devastated someone else knew, she was feeling sorry for herself. To lift her spirits the bartender gave Kenley a folder that so suits left that was marked Expera Footwear, stating look at this and maybe you can get a job with them. And thats how she met Jake Easton, Jake notice the folder as he entered the bar and decide he would seduce her and when he had the meeting with Expera Footwear the next day he could have an ally.

Jake propositioned Kenley "cause he thought she was an Execute at Expera Footwear" to meet him in his penthouse room. Kenley had no idea who Jake was and Jake believe she had to if she worked for Expera Footwear, so if she wanted to play this game he was in. Things where going great until Kenley got scared and boated out of the room, she was not a woman who does one night stands. Jake followed her and thats when Jake heard the flick flick flick of a camera and knew they were caught. As Jake spoke to the bartender who was the one taking the pictures is when he revealed he was only sleeping with Kenley because she was an Execute from Expera Footwear and it was an endorsement meeting he was taking in hopes of gaining her trust for the meeting. Jake revealed he ws a famous baseball player and that is why the pictures were being taking. Kenley was outraged left Jake and told him to never contact her again. In reality Kenley had hope something different.

“Playing his part in the next big game…”

I received an Advance Reader Copy for Baller (Part One) written by Locklyn Marx and voluntarily reviewed this book. This is a novella, which basically sets up a tale of crossed intentions between two people. Jake felt the woman he spotted at the bar had some real nerve to not recognize him, so he settles in to play her game, the way she seems to want to run it. But Kenley is at staring at the crossroads in her own life, with the loss of her job and her two-year-old boyfriend, so the potential for her decisions to work out for her right now meeting Jake just doesn’t seem as…lucrative as it does for him. The cliffhanger leaves you wanting more in terms of their developing chemistry, so it will be up to this author’s next three installments to follow this relationship to where it can end up.

Be forewarned this book is only 37 pages and ends in a cliffhanger. The book is well written and the characters likeable. Kensley who lost her boyfriend and job in one swoop decided a trip to the beach would be a mood changer. There she finds herself in the throws of the paparazzi after meeting a famous ball player. Throw in an unhappy sponsor, lots of drama and a fake girlfriend situation. a cute short read that I read as a reader copy and voluntarily chose to write a review.

This has the potential to be a good book, however I have the same complaint as most books from this publishing company, it's NOT a book!!! It was 4 chapters, that is not a book or even a novella in my opinion. What I read was well written and seemed like it could go in a great direction, but why make 4 books and frustrate your readers when you could publish one that we would all rave about. I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book provided by Booksprout

Cliff Hanger!

Hate cliff hangers. If the first book is good you get sucked into a trap. Well I am stuck in a trap!
Kenley is on vacation. A life is messed up, might as well go somewhere warm vacation. Jake thinks he knows who Kenley is. He'll play her little game of, who are you. Of course being a cocky know it all comes back to bite him in the arse. Now Kenley's gone. And that's where we've been left. Guess got to get book 2!

Baller by Locklyn Marx is the first book I have read from this author. This is a short read and does leave you with a cliffhanger. When Jake and Kenley meet they have chemistry they want to explore. This was suppose to just be a one night stand but when circumstances change decisions have to be made. Look forward to finding out what happens next.

This is a first time author for me and I can safely say that I am impressed, I do not normally go for cliffhangers, as I am usually impatient and want to know what happens straight away, however I can make an exception when the writing is good. All I need now is the next book

This is a quick read and only part one. Kenley lost her job and boyfriend on the same week and decides to go to Florida where she meets Jake. When the paparazzi catches them, Jake might lose a lucrative deal if he can’t convince Kenley to pretend to be his girlfriend. Just okay, wish there was more.

This is an excerpt, not a book.

Four chapters does not a book make.

The story starts off interesting enough to hold your attention, but then ends. I'm not paying to read Part 2 or any other part when it should all be in one book. It wasn't that spellbing.

Enjoyed reading part one of the Baller series. When Kenley loses her job and boyfriend, she goes to Florida for a much needed vacation. While she is in Florida, she meets a sexy guy who invites her to his penthouse. Read the highly recommended first book in the series.

This is a really cute book that I got a chance to read at the last minute. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer than 37 pages because I felt that there could have been more story. It does end on a cliffhanger but still a cute read.

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

This was a short ok read. Jake was superficial and Kenley was a mess. I don't usually read short stories or serials. I signed up for the next book so will see how it turns out.

I'm not sure about this.

It seemed to start off ok, but then jumped quickly and then ended just as fast. The "cliffhanger" if you will, didn't really grab me enough to want to go onto part 2. I can't find any chemistry b/c the H/h nor any real meat to the story.

Baller was really good. I like sports themed romances. It has a really good story line with some very steamy fun. It’s a must read.

Well written story. Have potential to be a lot more than just a teaser of four chapters or 25 pages. The characters are likeable. The story has a mix of mystery, passion and twists.
Enjoyable read.

This is a new author for me. I enjoyed Kenley and Jake's journey. This novel kept me guessing, but is part of a series. I enjoyed the chemistry between Kenley and Jake.

I really liked this book. I just wish they were longer and are released closer together. The two character obviously are attracted to each other but both aren’t sure how to handle it. I look forward to the next book
