AFTER A MURDER VICTIM IS DISCOVERED ON FOLLY BEACH, A RETIREE AND HIS MISFIT FRIENDS MUST FIND THE KILLER BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.
After Chris Landrum survives the first hurricane to hit Folly Beach, South Carolina, during this century, he breathes what he is about to discover to be an overly optimistic sigh of relief. When the body of his acquaintance Lester Patterson is discovered with an arrow plunged straight through his heartChriss formerly peaceful retirement on the tiny barrier island suddenly goes from bad to worse.
With the help of his remaining quirky acquaintances, Chris launches a relentless mission to stop an imperfect murderer who has already made one critical error in judgment. A weird boardinghouse and a country music bar are all that connect the victimsand now it is up to Chris to determine which one of his misfit friends is the killer and which one is vulnerable enough to be the next victim. Is it Country Cal, a washed-up musician; Harley McLowry, whose name matches his 99 Road King Classic; or songstress Heather Lee, whose friends think a half-dead hog carries a better tune than her?
When Chris discovers the police chief is bent on running him off the island, he soon realizes there will be no shortage of roadblocks to finding a ruthless killer who will stop at nothing.
Bill does a nice job telling a suspenseful tale of murder and mystery, but I especially enjoy being taken back to Folly Beach through descriptions of specific places mentioned. I'm ready to find out what Chris and his gang will find themselves in the middle of next. And of course to find out where the romance with Amber (or will it be Karen) goes.
I think The Edge is my favorite in this series thus far. The author did an excellent job with the hurricane theme in the story. It strengthened the plot and added color to the already colorful host of characters. If I were to say anything critical at all, it would be that this book just needed more Bob. I hope to read more about him soon. Kudos to Bill. This is becoming an awesome series. I highly recommend it.
The Edge is another fantastic opportunity to visit Folly Beach and its very interesting residents. Throw in a hurricane or two plus a mystery to solve and you have a winner. Read what life is like in the Low County of South Carolina when a murderer and hurricane decide to visit a barrier island.
Another great Folly Beach mystery with the usual characters and some new ones that I hope will show up again. Highly recommended unless you live in an area prone to hurricanes! Intense drama at the end so don't plan to put it down during the last few chapters.
I live on a bridge less island with characters that rival Chris’ cohort. I am glad to say this southernmost South Carolina island lacks the crime of Folly Beach but I am really enjoying the tall tales Bill Noel spins with these characters.
This series is just plain fun. The quirky group of friends are so likable you' d like to join them at The Dog for coffee. Just enough mystery who dunit to keep you entranced and reading. Sure, it might be easy to figure it out but the fun is seeing how they do it!
I always enjoy the Folly Beach books. The casual setting and the quirky characters are always good for some laughs and they always have a murder to solve but not in a conventional way. Read and enjoy.
"The Edge" by Bill Noel is a wonderful addition to the author's Folly Beach mystery series. A fantastic setting, unique and likeable characters, an intricate plot and lots of humor and suspense.
OK, folks. I laughed out loud a couple of times during this one! Noel's sense of humor and mine must be similar. His characters are kooky, but you can't help but like them!
I usually enjoy reading a series because you don't have to take the first couple of chapters to get to know the characters. This series has some of the most enjoyable characters I've met in a series. The stories are just right for light vacation reading. I don't usually read this type of story to solve the mystery. I like seeing how the characters go about solving the mystery instead. These characters are the most unique group of amateur crime solvers I've gotten to know in a while. I recommend this series to all light mystery readers.
I Found Folly a few months back and I am binge reading the whole series they are so great, . .the Edge didn't disappoint, such funny guys. Love all the characters, there are too many to mention. Bill Noel, is a great writer, I will be sad when I finish Silent Night, that just came out. Love the Series, Bill.
Full of quirky characters that I am dying to meet in person. I love the location. I have been to Folly many times so it is an asset to see the area through Bill's eyes and tales of mysteries.
