We are stuck in our backstory and can't get out. The sins in our story condemn us. The secrets in our story shame us. Today's stubborn strongholds come from yesterday's unhealed wounds. The sin patterns that have us stuck, are driven by yesterday's wounds that remain unhealed. God wants to talk about it and meet you in your story. This book will help you understand what needs to change in your life.
Overall: A great guide to dealing with shame resulting from failure in life. Featherston deals with the origin of shame and how we can deal with it and learn to enjoy an all satisfying relationship with Jesus. If shame is apart of your story, it is a must read. I plan on using this book as a guide to teach through this crucial topic.
There are chapters that sound "self-helpish" and the phrase "accept yourself" throughout could seem abrasive to some, if not understood in the complete context to which it is given. Don't let these issues distract you from the overall message of the author.
This is the best counseling book of my personal study I have ever read. Through tears of sorrow and joy, this book was consumed. Mr. Carter has a very personal and practical way of writing. Easy to understand, but deeply and personally convicting. God has used this book in my life.
