Chapter 81: Kaguya Wants to Touch - Wow. Kaguya was a genius since day one but this trick to calm her racing heart was something else. Haha but Shirogane stumped her there for a while. Oh, these twoooo! This chapter sure was a good start compared to the underwhelming-ness of the previous volume.
Chapter 82: Kaguya Won't Refuse - A filler episode I did'nt care much about.
Chapter 83: Kei Shirogane Won't Talk - Oooooh Kei's curiosity about her big brother Shirogane's crush was adorable.
Chapter 84: Miyuki Shirogane Wants to Dance - Oh god. Enough with the never ending list of things Shirogane is bad at. I get it. The guy has flaws and is still lovable. Move on. Give me Shirogane-Shinomiya moments, I wanted to say. And right when I was about to have one, Fujiwara strikes again. I just can't catch a break here.
Chapter 85: Kobachi Osaragi Wants to Supervise - ANOTHER CHARACTER I DON'T CARE FOR.
Chapter 86: Mr. Shirogane Wants to Pry - Wow. Kaguya meets Shirogane's father? Yes please.
Chapter 87: Shuchi'in Sports Festival - An end to this arc that I didn't much enjoy.
Chapter 88: Thus, Yu Ishigami Closed His Eyes, Part 3 - Back story was good but I could've done without it.
Chapter 89: Miyuki Shirogane and Yu Ishigami - Ishigami, I like you. But if you don't stop stealing the show, I just might stop liking you.
Chapter 90: Kyoko Ootomo Doesn't Realize - More of Ishigami. *sigh*
Chapter 91: Chika Fujiwara Wants to Make It Swell - A fun game. But basically just another filler chapter. Am I losing interest in the manga????
Kaguya is the vice president of their prestigious academy’s student council and she's in love with, Miyuki, the president, and he with her! BUT both are well aware that in love there is always a winner... and neither wants to be the "loser!" As both are geniuses and quite proud they spend each day laying in wait for an opportunity to get the other to confess without losing face... only Chika, their secretary and Ishigami, their treasurer, seem ready to innocently mess up their careful machinations.
The Premise
Kaguya-sama Love Is War vol 9 is an Ishigami heavy volume where we learn about his backstory as a social outcast. This is the first time where Love is War focuses so singularly on one particular secondary character and I loved it! Actually looking back over the chapters it was still pretty balanced with Kaguya and Miyuki getting their fair share of chapters but I think this was just the first time spent so long with Ishigami. All of this goes down at the athletic festival this year! And boy is it a monumental occasion...
The Buzz
Because we also meet Chika and Miyuki's dads!! I love meeting the parents of high school kids (in manga). I'm not sure why but they are always such fun characters and derivatives of their children. And Miyuki's dad even goes so far as to tease Kaguya!! I loved this part of the athletic festival!! There were also some odd one page comics of the festival. They were okay but I wasn't really a fan. I hope they don't become a regular thing.
There was also a really boring chapter in Kaguya-sama Love Is War vol 9 about the disciplinary committee and boy was it boring and unfunny. I think there must be a better way to learn about the rumors about Ishigami. This is the first time I've run into poor chapters in this series so I was a little shocked. But I put it down to the mangaka trying new things... and new things don't always work.
The Feels
Kei is back in Kaguya-sama Love Is War vol 9!! GAHHHH I've been waiting to see her again. And I love her teenage rebellion with her brother. She is too curious about Miyuki's depression, haahaha. I just loved this little interaction. I hope there is more. We also get a little time with Ai!! Hahaha she helps Kaguya create a calming ritual. It's too funny. I love how sensical this girl is. And the tug of war between Kaguya and Chika was hilarious!! I just couldn't stop rolling around on the floor. I didn't blame either girl because come on Chika has always been Miyuki's teacher.
The Visuals
Miyuki does a whole dance routine for the athletics festival that was too cute! And Ishigami shows all sorts of sides to himself in in Kaguya-sama Love Is War vol 9. How he looked when he was young was so clean cut! I didn't expect that with how edgy he is now. Even though I didn't love the short comics part I DID love getting a look at Chika's sister!! This series is sure to bring the funny to high school situations. I never know what to expect but the art highlights the best parts.
Kaguya-sama Love Is War vol 9 takes us on a journey to the past... Ishigami's past. It's unexpected and yet so perfect for him. And we get to see how far Kaguya and Miyuki will go for their subordinate. And I have to say that they do me proud!!

The most hilarious and fun enemies to lovers trope manga/anime series, even if (as I keep reiterating every time I finish a volume) I wanna bash the two main characters’ heads together sometimes 😅🥲 Kaguya actually ends up her admitting her feelings for Shirogane to his Father by accident - thinking he is just a stranger. Plus, there’s some character development here for Ishigami here too. Detailing a time when he was younger when he was accused of stalking a female classmate. But was this true? It explains his distrust and dislike of people, but just how good the student council can be. Chika Fukawara and Ai Hayasaka are my faves! 🥰
I don’t know what it is about this series that keeps me coming back to it. It puts me in such a good mood and makes me happy. I have no other way to put it. Following these characters around and getting to see their day to day activities allows me to escape for the daily grind of every day life.
I think that the other characters added to this volume. This has been my biggest complaint about the last couple of volumes. I felt that the new characters did not add to our core. I didn’t get that in this go around. It felt like these characters were finally finding their voice and adding to the overall story. I just think it took a couple of volumes for me to really get into their characters.
The artwork, once again, is pretty simple. However, it does work. I love the way the author shows us the characters’ facial expressions and how it adds to the story. I don’t know how else other than to tell you that it just works for our story.
This review is short, I know, but I don’t have anything to say other than what I have been saying.
Besides being the typical funny as hell manga it is, this one gets pretty serious at parts and damn emotional. I'm wondering if it'll be even more emotional in the anime when I get to that point but I felt a little teary eye here. On top of that some funny as hell undercover dad moments, and great ending for my girl. Overall a 5 out of 5 for this one.
I'm going to say this right now, this is probably THE BEST volume of the series. Everything was great, from the humor, to the drama, to the characters, EVERYTHING WAS AWESOME!
Ishigami's backstory took up most of the volume and it was heartbreaking, if I'm being honest. Yes, he should have handled the situation better, but the manipulation on Ogino's side and his classmates' hatred towards him was difficult to read. His backstory cleared up why he's so afraid of girls, why he's single, as well as explains some of his more sexist thoughts towards girls (EXPLAINS, not EXCUSES). What made his story shine, though, was the buildup and the payoff. Seeing his perception of his female classmates, then Osaragi's perceptions of him helps set up his backstory, along with him joining the cheer team and his interactions with them. Most of the cheer team is drawn without clear faces, which to me symbolizes Ishigami's unwillingness to see his teammates for who they are, possibly out of fear of rejection. It's only when his teammates continue to include him in activities and ask him for help that he slowly starts to trust them. It's only after his backstory is revealed, he decides to move forward, and his teammates comfort him that his teammates' faces are more detailed because he finally sees them as good people and is willing to give them a chance. Also, Miyuki and Kaguya's involvement in lifting his suspension made my heart swell and shows what awesome people they are. This whole story was utterly amazing and I absolutely loved reading it, even going back to certain parts.
The chapter after this helped break the tension in the best way and it was a perfect slice of humor to cut through the drama of the previous chapters. Akasaka knows how to pace his series properly so that there isn't so much humor that nothing can be taken seriously and there isn't so much drama that the humor can't take the edge off it.
I don't know how long this series is going to be, but I'm curious to see how the next few volumes are going to stand in comparison to this one. The volume was amazing and I loved every second of it.
This volume was a bundle of 'aww's while also going into Ishigami's past and character development. Most of it concerns the school sports festival (obviously, Chika is training Miyuki again), and it is an exciting arc. First, Kaguya gets her feelings under control by training herself not to react to Miyuki (who has started to think she is avoiding him). Ishigami joins the pep squad to be more 'normie' and initially he feels he won't fit in again, due to the rumors surrounding his first year, but he actually gains friends by the end. While Miyuki is learning dance from Chika, Kaguya offers to help, which means we get to see Chika being petty towards Kaguya for the first time LOL. (I still giggle at 'I raised that boy') But the main storyline is Ishigami's past, and how he was vilified by his classmates; obviously the Student Council and the Disciplinary Council intervened on his behalf and supported him, but they also respected his wishes. Overall, it brought the characters closer together and delivered some good relationship developments, so a win!

May mà cũng thành công há há.
I really liked how one particular story arc gave a lot of backstory to one of my fav characters, and this volume did a good job at balancing heavier topics with the humor I've grown accustomed to ending on an amusing note. Also, I have a big reading gap because I put this one on pause while I was waiting for the next volume to get ordered at my library, nothing to do with the content and once I resumed pretty much finished the book.
I LOVED how Ishigami's arc was done. It was so moving and really got me in the heart. I wasn't expecting to ever get into Ishigami's backstory and the source of why he is the way he is (I also wasn't expecting him to join the cheer team), but I'm so happy we did. It was so upsetting to see how traumatized Ishigami was after the incident and people turning on him so immediately and how he just crumpled and believed that the horrible things and names they called him were true. I loved that the first people to consider his side, rather than just blindly take the words of that awful boy as fact, were the student council. Seeing Ishigami make those first connections and continue to make connections with the cheer squad was so heartwarming. The parts where he didn't see anyone's face clearly but after he lost the race and they came to comfort him, he sees them for who they are. Also him repeating Shinogane's words and saying "go to hell, jerk!"
I think it's interesting that no one ever revealed what actually happened to the girl, due to Ishigami's wishes. He would rather be unfairly hated than have the girl traumatized over what her ex was capable of doing. Other stories would have the girl find out and be remorseful and have the students apologize with Ishigami being publicly accepted. Instead, Ishigami makes peace with his decisions and has friends who know the truth and respect his wishes and moves forward with his life, understanding that he doesn't need the acceptance of the entire school. He just needs to be understood and accepted by his friends.
I think this is one of my favorite arcs of the series so far. I really love and care for the characters and really enjoy learning more about their backstories and how being in the student council has changed them.

Kaguya is having a hard time with her feelings of love, as her heart goes crazy and she thinks she must be dying. So she's trying to find ways to cope, including finding rituals to calm her mind. In this volume is also the sports festival. This includes some competitions and odd miscommunication. We get to meet Shirogane's father, and Chika's father and sister. This explains some things, and creates some issues for Kaguya. In a surprising serious-ish plot, we find out some of Ishigami's history, what led to him being on the student council and why people seem to have a misunderstanding of his character. His new understanding of it and coping with his new reality after it all, leads to him opening his eyes to the world again. It's an oddly sweet plot, and I think will give Ishigami more to work for. He's finally starting to see the people around him. This is a fun series, and I'm glad it's expanding the plot lines a bit more.

I read a bunch of these over vacation and enjoyed them a lot. There's the occasional eyeroll-worthy dialogue about boob sizes, but otherwise the female characters are treated more sympathetically than they usually are in shonen manga. The stories where Chika gives Mizuki intensive training in dancing, singing, etc. crack me up every time.
Kaguya-Sama Love is War is hand’s down one of my absolute favorite manga series. I absolutely love catching up with these characters. I would highly suggest reading the series in order, because you truly get to see how these characters grow and progress. This particular volume featured Ishigami’s backstory throughout most of the volume, and the heavier elements were well balanced with the humor this series is known for. It definitely explains certain character aspects, but it also demonstrates growth for Ishigami (and even the others as well). One of my favorite things is watching their relationships with each other.

Hijinx continue for the entire student council. There is a continuation of the drama involving the president and vice presidents' sports equipment mishap that almost resulted in the two kissing. From love confessions to learning dance moves to cross-dressing (You have to read it to understand it) there are tons of mini adventures throughout this latest volume of Aka Akasaka's love war! I found this to be another fun and entertaining volume.
This volume proves what the series has at its disposal. The backstory of Yu is put on display and it is far more intense than one would originally think. The emotional element is so palatable it will actually tug at the reader's heartstrings. Moments like this will keep readers going for the long haul.
What a fantastic volume! This volume had its usual funny moments as well as really sweet and cute romantic moments but the really plus was the backstory of ishigami being revealed as well as some development of him as a character which has been needed for a little while now!
