Gerhard Richter: A Private Collection

Rate this book
The works by Gerhard Richter that Georg and Ingrid Bockmann collected in Berlin between 1960 and 2003 span all of the artist's important portraits, landscapes, still lifes, geometric color charts, abstract compositions. Thus the collection, comprehensively illustrated in this publication, provides a welcome survey of the central aspects of the artist's production. Statements and interviews from Richter's diaries exemplify his position as a painter who has repeatedly undertaken new approaches and found new formulations. Despite the ever-increasing dominance of photography and new media in art making, Richter has always foreseen a future for painting. For him, it is the lust to paint that is proof of painting's necessity.
