Ember has thrown the empire into upheaval. The entire realm knows her face, and her name is whispered in alleys and in the underground. Everyone wants to know what she'll do next, because it's clear she's the only person alive who can challenge their new, strangely powerful emperor. A massive battle is inevitable--and the entire realm is taking sides.
There's just one problem. Every time Ember uses her power, she loses a piece of herself. Fighting the emperor could cost her very soul.
Meanwhile, Stefan worries that Ember is slipping away from him. As she grows erratic and unpredictable, he's torn between his love for her and his desire to protect the revolutionaries. Can Stefan save the woman he loves? And can Ember fulfill the prophecy written in the stars before she loses herself completely?

This novel surprised me. I’ve found with most series that I like the first book the best. The reader is introduced to the characters and falls in love with them and the rest of the series is set up. That happened with this series, but I found that the farther I got in the series the more I continued to fall in love with the characters. A bit unusual for me, Ms. Rode’s final book in the series is my favorite.
This book is much more action packed that the first, which is another surprise as action books are not high on my TBR list. The inventive way that Ms. Rode finishes this series is wonderful. She also has a way to make you feel deeply for characters the reader and characters of the story have only just met.
Ms. Glemboski once again voices the characters very well. When listening to these books in succession it is amazing that the consistency never waivers and a reader has to remind themselves that they were likely recorded over the course of months or years and not in succession.
I certainly recommend the entire series, with a small warning. If you read and like the first book, make sure you have the second and third on hand before you finish. You will want to continue right away.
I was provided with a free copy of this audio book for my honest review. The views expressed here are entirely my own.
This is the third and final novel in Rebecca Rode’s Ember in Space series of scifi thrillers. This is one continuous story, so it’s best to read the entire series in order.
I wasn’t very invested in these characters at the start of this book. I was curious, but I didn’t particularly care what happened to them, and the story didn’t really hold my interest. As the story progressed, though, I became intrigued with the new aliens and wondered how the author would resolve the various conflicts.
Because there was so much brutality in the first book, it was nice to see the story reach a happy ending. I do wish we had a chance to get to know some of the secondary characters better and learn more about the various alien races.
This story works well as an audiobook. Stacey Glemboski did a nice job with narration. She’s easy to understand, her pacing is good, and I enjoyed the character voices. I especially loved when she sang as Ember; that was beautiful and really brought the story to life.
I was given a free copy of this audiobook by the author and volunteered to provide an honest review.
In this 3rd installment, It seems that all is lost. Ember is barely holding herself together, much less a rebellion. Old friends betray Ember, and friends we'd forgotten come back. As expected, good does defeat evil, but it does it with a minimum of bloodshed and in a way that shows Ember being the stronger person after all.
The appeal to this series as a whole is that it uses a Roma lead character. I hadn't read much of that before, and the character feels honest and researched. The world around her is so big that I could imagine other stories set in this universe even if not about Ember herself.
Because this was an audio, Glemboski's performance is satisfying. I still find Ember's accent odd, but as a choice, it is consistent through the whole work. I would listen to this narrator again and feel confident that I was going to enjoy the performance.
I really love Ember’s story. I love the universe in which she lives and the idea of Flickers and Flames. Overall, I enjoyed the series very much but this was probably my least favorite book of the three. It felt a little disconnected at times and I really would have loved to see the secondary characters developed and brought into the main story a little more. I had a hard time getting into it at first but began to enjoy it more toward the middle. As far as resolution of the story, it was perfect. I can’t really say more than that without giving things away. Would I recommend the series? Definitely.
I requested a review copy from the author and chose to review it.
I downloaded the first book in the series for free - but promptly bought the second and third books as I became captivated by Ember (a Roma gypsy). I thoroughly enjoyed her personal journey from a daughter who wanted to nurse her Dad back to health, to a prisoner who wanted to return home, through to a reluctant leader who didn't want the responsibility but cared too much to walk away. The story was well paced, captivating and had me turning pages late into the evening as I couldn't put it down.
After reading the 2nd novel Flare, I wanted to read book 3 ASAP. I was impressed that Rebecca Rode continued to advance the story and added depth to Ember's character while expanding upon the backstory of the Empire and the Resistance. The plot moved briskly and in unexpected directions, and I liked that other alien races were also part of this universe. My only complaint would be that the novel was short, and I wish more time could have been spent with Stefan and Bianca. After reading this series, I have placed her other series The Numbers Game trilogy on my to read list.
Awesome! This series is amazing and the ending book just brings everything together wonderfully! I was on the edge of my seat until the end to see what finally happened between Ember and Stefan and how Ruban finally came down! I went on a rollercoaster of emotions while reading this book and loved every single minute of it. I would highly recommend this series to all of my friends... and even ones who aren't! I requested a review copy of this book.
Amazing ending to this trilogy. The book started off a little slow, but quickly got interesting about 30% into the book. It gets really fast-paced. In this book we learn a lot more about others in the Empire, their lives and roles. It's good to see that it's not only about the Flickers and the Empire, but also about other planets and species/aliens. The ending was beautiful and I loved how the author finished it off.
Such an amazing story now comes to and end. It’s really an epic journey and worth every minute you spend loving &/or despising these characters. Ember is a wonderfully complicated character that has to fight her inner demon to make the world a better place. Her love for humanity and life in general will always win out.
This series would be good for teens as well. Narration was excellent.
I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.
Over the last month, I’ve been trying to finish up series. This effort could be better helped if I would stop starting new ones. Rebecca Rode’s Flame finishes the Ember series. Only the last half of the book was worth the read. The first half had to be plowed through.
Two dimensional characters, with no surprises. Evil is clearly defined. Plot, plot, plot. And there you have it. Even the plot wasn’t that interesting. But the series is done! Three stars.
I loved book 1 and 3. Book 2 frustrated me, but now I understand the importance of it to the ending to this trilogy. The ending was fabulous. Loved it. It was still a little frustrating before the ending how the heroine, Ember, kept her secrets and fears from Stefan, but even that was a meaningful contribution to how the trilogy ended. Reading these 3 books was well worth my time, effort, and the monetary cost.
I loved listening to Stacey narrate the final installment in Ember's trilogy. There was so much I loved about this story and it was so awesome to hear it all. I love how Stacey's voice made it all seem more read and I'd almost react throughout the book as if I was watching it all happen. This is such a great story and I especially loved the ending.
Flame: Ember in Space, Book Three was another great read by Rebecca Rode. Ember is the only person who can challenge the emperor. Everyone is taking sides and they aren’t always taking Ember’s. Stefan believes that Ember is slipping away from him. I absolutely loved reading Ember’s story and loved the conclusion to this great trilogy. I cant wait to read more by Rebecca Rode.
Thank you Mrs. Rode for writing a different type of sci-fi action series. Read the 3 book series in order. This will help you understand the characters and their importance to the storyline.
Ember finally got a grip, took the full book but she finally started listening to people. So glad someone told her how it was and that she wasn't this good hero but actually self centered bitch.
Loved the growth and the ending although feel like Ruben folded so fast.

This third book was everything you could hope for and more. Ms Rode weaved a spectacular ending to her trilogy and filled it with twists and turns that had me crying near it's end. Ember and Stefan have a had a long and hard time of it with the Empire hunting for them and betrayal around the corner waiting for them. But love has a way of seeing things in s different light... but will it be enough for the of then while saving the people relying on them.
I loved this story from the beginning and would recommend it to anyone who cheers for the underdog and loves a great story.
