Nick Russell seems to enjoy writing about one thing then bringing a completely different set of circumstances in at the very end so that the reader has no clue as to what has happened in the previous 95% of the book. Lots of babble about John Lee's sex life, ex-wife, problems with the women in his life, and a little police work about solving the mystery. End the end, just like in the preceding book, the "killer" is exposed but has never been mentioned in the book previously. And, as in the previous book, the "killer" is not charged with the crime and John Lee let's him/her off the hook by pretending it never happened. Personal revenge is not something a police officer should be able to get away with, even in a book. Would have been four or five stars except for the weak ending which, in this book as well as the previous one, was not solved by any police work but by circumstance in which John Lee just happened to be there.
