The pact is broken. The human world that Alex once belonged to is no longer safe. From every direction, lycans from other packs are arriving, forming an army that will hopefully be ready to fight Valkos and his werewolves. Assuming, of course, that they can stop fighting among themselves first. And that Alex can somehow find a way to lead them.

Before she can do that, though, she must harness the new magic that's awakened in her - magic that took her grandfather years to master. She has weeks to master it. Days, maybe. It doesn't help that she's never felt more alone, either, with her family on the other side of the world for their own safety, and Kael on his own mysterious trip up north.

Then Kael comes back. Only he isn't the same. And he isn't alone. He's brought members of the most ancient, powerful werewolf pack in existence - the only pack, rumor has it, that Valkos has ever feared. Aligning with these particular wolves is a desperate and possibly dangerous move, but a necessary one, almost everyone agrees. Desperate times, desperate measures. It makes sense. But still, Alex isn't so sure. Because if she's learned anything these past months, it's that things are not always what they seem - and power always comes with a cost. And this time the price may be more than she can pay.

As a kid, S.M. Gaither spent way too much time playing video games like Final Fantasy and reading every book she could get her hands on instead of doing silly things like her assigned homework. As an adult…Well, not much has changed. Her goal is to write books that distract others from their life’s obligations, too, thus creating an army of fellow procrastinators over which she can reign supreme. These days, her personal favorite places to procrastinate are in the mountains near her North Carolina home, in the company of her husband, their daughter, and their very spoiled dog.

This series just gets better and better! I was not too impressed with Descendant so color me surprised. I think it may actually be a re-readable series for me. I was a little bummed that Kael was MIA in the beginning because I was worried that he wouldn't be in Sacrifice much at all. I was very happy that he showed up. (I may have a bit of a crush at this point. I mean the whole sarcastic hero thing AND a chivalry challenge? Come on.. *Swoons*) And showed up he did. He brought all the drama and action with him. I don't want to say too much because THAT PLOT TWIST THOUGH but it does develop very naturally and cohesively. They are on a time line but nothing feels too rushed through. Alex does much more growing up in Sacrifice. At this point she knows her shortcomings, acknowledges them and actively tries to overcome them. She still has her woe is me moments but as her life has basically been in shambles for months I can't really hold it against her. She comes into her whole "champion" status a lot in the book. She is kinda forced but she holds her own and left me proud of her. I hope Ascendant is just as awesome and I cannot wait to start it.

Another good edition to the series. The story was interesting. You knew right from the beginning what was going to happen. I am amazed it took Alex so long to figure things out. I like the characters, but I do not feel attached to them.

SPOILERS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I really liked Anderson's role in this book. The fact that for years he has been under control. Loved it! After I finished it though, I went to go find the next book and it was so hard! I finally figured out that it will come out on May 15, 2020, but I think it is being republished because on the synopsis it said it would be published in 2016. Super confusing, but it should be out soon. I don't actually know if I will read it. This series is entertaining, but I am not really attached to it. I hate not finishing the last book in the series, but I also want to read something I am really in love with, sooo....

This is a great story I loved every minute of it and I am glad it doesn't end there. I will be patiently waiting for the next book to be released this summer.

Short. I feel that all of these should have been in one book.

Skipping to the point. Good book. I bought the next one so 5 stars. The character development is interesting. Alex finally finds a battle that she has no choice but to run from. So she does, regroups, and come back with a plan. Something first book Alex was incapable of doing.

Favorite quote:
“That’s the thing about losing people, I guess: you’re never done losing them. Because as soon as you start feeling like you’ve moved on the smallest most insignificant things... would come along and make you feel like you’d lost them all over again.”

Better then the first 2 books but I can’t get over the fact that the female protagonist is 16 oh wait now 17 yet in a relationship with a man who’s over 400 years old 🤢.

The storyline has gotten significantly better but I honestly don’t think I can keep going because as their relationship progresses so does the yuck factor as I don’t want to her about her loosing her virginity to a man that old regardless of the fact that they say he “looks” young.

3 and 3/4 stars. I think the only reason that I didn't give it a full 4-stars was because it's been a while since I'd read the first two books, and the author does zero recap to remind us of who these characters are and what they've been through to get where they are now. We are expected to already be emotionally invested in these characters. And it would totally work, and would be completely appreciated if, and only if, I was reading this series through from start to finish... but seeing as how the 4th and final book isn't out until this summer, that's quite impossible. Anyways, I did really enjoy this book. I had forgotten just how stubborn the h is. She doesn't always make the right choices, and that's ok - I appreciate that she is fallible, and that she's on a slow learning curve to greatness. I felt myself wishing that there was more chemistry between the H and h. There are a few times that they are playful with each other, and have intimate moments in which they share kisses.. but the writing wasn't strong enough in that dynamic that I was giddy with the warm-feels. That's not to say that I wasn't smiling like a dum-dum when they had their pillow fight. I'm looking forward to seeing how this story is going to resolve, and wonder if its somehow going to bring her little sister back into it. I guess we'll see this summer!

I really like this series but I was hoping that 3 books would conclude this. It did not, it left it w/ a lot more to go. I feel like kael is becoming obnoxious. He is so testy and I am really hopeful to see his personality come around a bit in the next book. Valkos definitely was a surprise, I won't post any spoilers since this is recently released. All in all...w/ out spoilers...it was a good read.

Another book in this series that I couldn't put down. I had a feeling how some of the book was going to go as soon as one of the characters was introduced. I did not see the ending of the book coming.

I love this series because the main character isn't always right in the way she does things and that makes her more human in my mind. The twists in this one are lovely. It made me keep guessing what exactly was going to happen next.

Intense!!

This was by far the most intense one so far! Wow never thought there'd be so much magic and Wilbert then this. I'm still passed that Alex and kael keep being driven apart, wow can they not get a break here lol well this is a great story that keeps on giving! And I can't wait for the next yay

The style and quality is the same as the first two books, so I think it is worth to continue reading. This book has a nice twist in it and it makes the story more interesting and creates suspense. Who is the true enemy? The answer is not as easy as it seemed in the first two books.

teen girl finds out about her family's hidden lycan history and has to live up to the legacy.

good story, clean, some swearing. kissing, but no sex. last book has one of the main characters pregnant and seemingly not married since the others don't know about the relationship. the main couple has some serious temptation but also have a conversation implicating marriage before having sex.

i did enjoy this series and read it to the end. each book is actually a story to itself and not one book cut into sections, which i appreciate. the last book leaves open the next series with the next gen.
