And it's not just that she can move things with her mind...
That, she could handle—had handled since finding out about her gifts. She'd even carved a real life for herself, with a daughter she adored and a husband who... Well, so what if the spark had died? Life was good.
But when an old friend shows up at her door, Lilly finds herself yanked back into a dangerous world by tales as outlandish as they are disturbing.
They walk among us, he says. Hiding in plain sight. Preying on anyone and anything they please. From the shadows, they rule the planet, unnoticed by all but a very rare few.
A few like Lilly.
Now, faced with a seemingly unstoppable enemy, Lilly must make a choice that will change the world.
If she fails, it could spell doom for us all. But if she succeeds, she might just find that monsters come in all shapes...
What would you do to protect your family?
Cursed Blood is a prequel novella to the irreverent, action-packed Harvesters Series. If you like wise-cracking dialogue, riveting action, and endearing outcasts, then this is the series you're looking for.
Luke is a storyteller whose dreams include learning the ways of the Force, becoming a sentient robot, and maybe even one day growing up. Also, lots of zombies… Don't ask.
After studying engineering science at Penn State and neuroengineering at Drexel, Luke finally decided to throw in the towel on actually building a working Iron Man suit, opting instead to simply make things up and write them down. Boy, is he having more fun now.
When he's not holed up in his cave trying to string words together, he can often be found powerlifting, video-gaming, reading, and/or drinking the darkest, most roasty beers he can get his mitts on.
You know what? Enough about Luke. He's not that interesting. But if you'd like to say hi to him for whatever reason, he'd probably be glad to hear from you. Contact him at luke@lukermitchell.com (kind of a silly email address, right?) with questions, critiques, or just a friendly hello!

Cursed Blood is a shorter prequel to the Harvestersseries which I think was written after some of the series was already released. I like to read everything in order, in this case chronologically, so I started here. It really set the stage for why things happen and how the dystopian world was created.
The author shared the story on his newsletter or site and I don't believe it is for sale anywhere currently. I'm really happy to have the background and insight it provided.
This short story is a good intro the the Harvester series. While Luke suggests reading it after the first book of the series, there are no spoilers for the series, so reading it at any time should work.
This story does a good job of demonstrating how enjoyable the characters are in this series and it has a plot that will draw you right in.
A quick read, but well worth it for fans of the Harvesters series! Off the top of my head I'd say this is probably the darkest of everything I've read by Mitchell, but only by a small margin. I definitely enjoyed the closer look at Rachel's history and how Earth ended up how it did by the beginning of the series proper.
It was nice learning about Rachel's mom and what her family was like. And, how she ended up being raised by John. Rachel was so angry at John for lying to her, but seeing the circumstances I can see his motivation. Good short story.
I received this book as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. This was an amazing read! I really want to read the next book and find out what happens to Rachel and Michael. Well done to the author on a really well written and engaging book!
