The Wolf's Mate

Rate this book
When money got tight she put on an apron - and served coffee every day to the mysterious hunk

A wolf shifter keeping a low profile - but he can't stop staring at her body

If she was gonna be his mate, they would be in constant danger...

Life in Aconitum had been pretty bland for April Marino. Being a city girl didn't help either - when money got tight, she had moved to the small town and put on an apron. The only solace she found from her drab existence was the mysterious, quiet man who came in every day.

James Sullivan did not like attention - the Enforcers did not take kindly to his family's past decisions, and it could be a fight for him any day. How could he let himself get so distracted? Still, distraction or not she had everything he needed, and he would make her his mate.

James knew that getting April involved in his life meant she had to know all his deepest darkest secrets. She ached to know his secrets, and could only hope he trusted her enough to tell them to her. But what would happen to them if the Enforcers found them? Will they be able to face the danger together, or will theirs be yet another tragic fate?

A gripping tale combining romance, action, and a splash of magic & wonder. The Wolf's Mate is sure to delight fans of Terry Bolryder, Zoe Chant and TS Joyce!

Good short read but connection to Myre Falls still hanging by a thread. Multiple instances of mixing up James (love interest) and Jesse (diner owner). Self-published author needs editors or beta readers to help with these snafus. Sweet story that would have been better as a standalone novella.

It's very clear from this steamy one-night read that readers can expect to see a lot more of James and April. A power couple, brought together in a tidal wave of emotion that they feel but don't understand. He's a shifter who was left to raise himself. She's a big city girl who relocated to a small town in search of peace. Neither of them truly understand the shifter world or what it will come to mean for them, but they're on this journey now together. When an attempt on their lives comes from a Council they'd never heard of, they're whisked off to the woods and a community where they can both finally find what they've been needing. I am so excited to read more about them in coming novels!!

The only thing I would mention is that I feel the story would have benefited from more detail in the strength of April and James' feelings for each other. These books are so approachable, so easy for a single-sitting read, and that may mean attracting some readers who aren't familiar with shifter ideas. The concept of mating, and the sense of a couple "clicking," as soon as they lay eyes on each other, I feel could use some more exploring. For an unfamiliar reader, April and James may have known each other casually for a while, but one conversation in a diner booth, one day at an orchard, and one evening together should not equal true, life-long love. Without more exploration of the topic, it can be hard to maintain the fantasy of the story. It might just feel a little too far-fetched (no pun intended for wolf shifters!).

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. What a intriguing suspenseful story. April moved from NYC to a small town in Iowa and worked as a waitress at a diner. James owned the local apple orchards and was a known entity among the town folks. There were whispers that he was a shifter. April did not believe in superstitious talk. However, James had taken a serious interest in April and she was attracted to him as well. As they got to know each other outside of the diner they fell in love. James revealed many things to April. She was not put off at all. She embraced everything. Then danger appeared one day at the diner. Later all heck broke loose and James and April were helped by persons unknown. They had to run. These people who saved them were shifters. This was a page turner. It kept my interest from page one. I only wish it was longer and we could find out what happened next. A good read

Good Story

April left New York and landed in small town when her money was almost gone. Working as a waitress she is settling into small town life. James Sullivan, a handsome cowboy, has caught her eye. Her co workers seem to think she has caught his.
James has had his eye on April for a while. His wolf wants her. He makes his move. A day together and the quickly fall for each other. James as shares his secret. Their is danger.
James lost his family at a young age. Strange shifters are in town and they are after James. Help comes from. Alpha Paxton Christian and some members of his pack.
A short and steamy story. Loved seeing Paxton and London again.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book from Booksprout. A steamy short story is included as a bonus.

This was a pretty good afternoon read,
April works in the local cafe where the mysterious and oh so good looking James comes in to eat, she wants to get to know him more but he is guarded and so he should be if the rumors are true. Things start slow then the mating bond takes over and just when things seem to be going well strangers arrive in Town. This is a quick read and would have loved to have had more background about April and James and for them to have spent more time together before things went haywire but it was still a good read.

This was a great shifter romance. April is from New York, she moved to Iowa and got a job in a small diner. James is a wolf shifter, he is the owner of a large orchard. When he first sees April he knows she is his mate. There are rumors about James being a shifter but April thinks it's just gossip. Her and James become friends outside the diner. James wants to tell her she's his mate but wants her to get to know him first. Will April except that she's James's mate? Will the town discover that Makes is a shifter? Grab this book and find out! I voluntarily received an advance arc copy through Booksprout for an honest review.

This was a cute story that flowed really well. The main female character had spunk, though I wish I knew more about her past and what brought her to a small town. I liked James and I had sympathy for what happened to him and his family. The two play well off of each other and I liked that their relationship is more organic then just thrown together. The writing is good and clear and I like how the whole story comes together especially with how it ends. check out more reviews at underthebookmark.com

This is another excellent book by Anastasia Chase. April and James are very likeable. I am giving this 4 ½ stars only because there was one big hole in the story. Who is Corbin? He had a great impact on the story so it would have been nice to have a little more information on him. A little more of April’s move from New York also would have been interesting.

Who Raised James?

This was an engaging read. James is a wolf shifter who falls for a human. Apparently inter-racial dating is just as much of a taboo with shifters and some people make it among humans. Before the couple really get a chance to know each other they are caught up in fighting for their lives. I need to find more books because I sure have questions. Who exactly raised James and why did Paxton show up now? What was Corbin hoping to gain by attacking James?

This was a nice book but it went on and one then rushed through the rest of the book. And then it ended on a cliffhanger leaving so many questions unanswered. I really dislike cliffhangers and that is reflected in the rating. Perhaps if I read the first book of the series or the rest of the books in the series, I would like ti better but truly, I just didn't see a point to the whole thing.

This is a interesting, intriguing book with a wonderful story-line & plot. The characters are quite well-developed with individual personalities. There is enough drama, intrigue, suspense, twists & turns, danger, lust and passion to keep the readers interest. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and really would recommend it.

It was well written and a quick read. I was able to read it in a day.

I liked that the book tied back to the first characters Anastasia introduced me to, London and Paxon.

I look forward to the next story.

An enchanting storyline, great, realistic characters and exciting action scenes, what more could you want. James & April are two opposites who feel an instant attraction when they meet. When they finally act on their feelings, there are outside influences that are ready to tear them apart. This was a great story and a wonderful addition to the series.

I liked this story but I found that it had a bit of a cliffhanger in many ways. But the characters and the storyline was great. It is fast paced and sometimes a bit confusing due to it. It has lots of chemistry between the main characters. The mix of drama, danger, passion and twists makes it worth the read.

Good read.

A good read until confusion sets in when all of a sudden more shifters show up to help and I didn’t know why. Was lack luster after that. And after he mated and marked her the first time why did he have to do it again without turning her on first?

Very well written with building tension. I felt it ended short, but perhaps it takes up in a next book.
