A collection of three story arcs varying between fun, exciting, and even heartbreaking, this series continues to be the best TMNT iteration yet.

Volume 5 of IDW's hardback collection of their TMNT comics. As always they're collected in chronological reading order and include a lot more issues than a standard trade.

We start with Turtles in Time which sees the return of Renet as she causes chaos to the lives of the turtles. What I loved about this mini-series is that as good as it is the first time you read it it's even better on a re-read as you see the ramifications that will effect the story going forward massively. There's an interesting use of different art styles in each of the four issues which I enjoyed a lot.

Sandwiched between the numbered issues is the four part crossover with the Ghostbusters. This is made possible in a way that feels plausible from an in-universe perspective and also begins a plot thread that will take on a much more significant role as the series progresses. The interactions between the characters felt very natural and I'm glad there was a second mini later on.

It also made me regret not picking up more than a couple of trades of the Ghostbusters comic while IDW still had the license. Such is life I guess

A couple of highlights for me that don't effect the story are Donnie wearing a Proton Pack which is one of my favourite panels in all of comic books. And I LOVED the tongue in cheek conversation / reference about the turtles wanting their own van or a blimp.

The 7 main series issues brought a collision that has been coming for a while as well as mending fences, escalating conflicts and beginning a side to a main character that I personally hate and would continue to hate until it's inevitable conclusion. On personal note I was happy to see Bepop and Rocksteady look dangerous for the first time since their introduction by IDW and not just bumbling buffoons with no real direction. More of this would have been welcomed.

Excellent storytelling as always with some wonderful artwork all collected in a beautiful hardback book. I wouldn't have had April as the cover star as I think there is someone else who this volume is mostly about but that's not a big deal at all.

1 star. The first person to say Cowabunga was a ghostbuster.

(Was actually very good, but can't justify rating it higher after the atrocity committed above).

R.I.P. Donatello. No shame in getting clapped by the goated bromance that is Bebop and Rocksteady. I love it when a humanoid Warthog and Rhino just bro out and kill a humanoid turtle. (Don't worry I'm sure Don comes back, they got like 12 more volumes left and no way he actually stays dead).

Turtles in Time was ok. Turtles/Ghostbusters was a big yawn.

The rest, however, was freaking awesome. The best issues are the ones by Eastman and Waltz.

Still lovin the series... but not crazy about the side quests in this volume.

So much fun to read! These books keep getting better as the story gets more complex. Slash is officially one of my favorite TMNT characters. I may take a brief break from these to read something horror-themed but I’m looking forward to returning!

Another solid volume, marred by an extremely boring Ghostbusters crossover. The main story ultimately paid off well with a tragic wrap-up. Worth noting is the awesome Mutanimals mini-series included in this volume. It was almost better than the main story.

Main story continues to be a fun, thrilling ride. Everything in this volume really culminates with the last 4 issue arc in this series and it's a fast-paced blast that was a lot of fun. The cliffhanger makes me want to jump right into Vol. 6 (as I was warned by a friend). The crossover with The Ghostbusters was ok - maybe 3 stars (although it did make me interested in re-watching the original movie) - otherwise this volume might have been 4.5 stars overall.

Before I started this volume, I expected maybe the Turtles in Time and definitely the Ghostbusters crossover to drop my review a bit. Pleasantly, both of these series surprised me and I enjoyed them both a lot! And when it came to the main story, it was of course as great as it has been since the beginning. I’m shocked and in awe of what I just read and I cannot wait to read what happens here next! These TMNT comics seriously are incredible!

4.5. The main story line continues on a great pace..the ending is a great cliffhanger..makes me want the next volume now. The ghost buster story was a good change up for something a little different but it wasnt as good as the main story

Great addition to the series. No sign of slowing down. The Ghostbusters make an appearance for good measure. The garbage Turtles in Time mini knocked off a star.

A solid, if uneven, addition to the TMNT story.

I really love this series, and this is a solid book, but it is a bit of a mixed bag. This book contains two miniseries, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters. Turtles in time is fun, and the stories all add a little something to flesh out the universe, but they often felt a bit short. Basically the Turtles spend 4 issues in 4 different time periods, but each time period could easily have been 2-3 issues a piece which leaves the stories feeling a bit rushed. Still, they're fun so I can't complain. The Ghostbusters crossover is also kinda fun, but super inconsequential. It doesn't help it lands just as the main storyline is getting ready to heat up so it feels like an ill timed pause.

The main story fares better, but has some of the same problems. I really enjoy the Mutanimals, but the writers engage in one of my pet peeves with comics and make characters basically invincible. They manage to drop and entire building on Bebop and Rocksteady without really injuring them which seems a bit extreme. Still, it's a fun story and we're starting to see IDW delve into some of the wackier characters from the TMNT universe. The fact that they can make Herman Crab or Mondo Gecko feel even remotely plausible in this world is a testament to the writers.

Finally the last chunk of the book really makes things work. It's a cliffhanger, but it finally brings some much needed tension back into the action and has a number of surprising but believable twists. This volume won't always be your favourite, but in the end it will leave you itching to read volume 6.

The TMNT series with IDW continues to be some of the best Turtles story out there. It has decades of iterations to pick the best tidbits from to weave into a story that is familiar yet unique. The story is relatively deep for a Turtles comic, being more than merely "good vs. evil" with various factions and allegiances all with their own motivations that all come to a head in the conclusion of this collection.

Beyond the main storyline there are also some really fun detours. Things start out with the 4 part "Turtles in Time" mini series, which will absolutely appeal to anyone who played Turtles in Time for the Super Nintendo at home and wished they made a movie out of it... or who saw TMNT 3 in theaters and wished it had been better. Time travel is nothing new for our mutants, but it proves to be a real delight here.

Plus, there is the 4 part TMNT/Ghostbusters crossover. 8 year old me would have squealed in delight and well, 33 year old me kinda did too. I had actually read this before in trade paperback from out of the continuity of the rest of the series, and it held up fine, but reading it here after reading the previous entries of Turtles kind of helped me put it in context.

Simply put, if you have liked Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at any point in your life, do yourself a favor and read IDW's comic series of them.

Wow.

The main story of the IDW collection is awesome as always (and even heart wrenching in a few occasions), but this volume in particular is encumbered by two "unnecessary" sections: Turtles in time and a Ghostbusters crossover.

The Ghostbusters piece is too long, too boring and also, something is up with the colors here. It's not enough to read in the light of your bedside table lamp, you need actual daylight to see what's going on. However, the section is so boring that you won't care if you see the panels or not; you'll find yourself fastreading speech bubbles just to get it over with.

The Turtles in time piece is not as bad as the Ghostbusters one, but you kind of wished you were reading the main story instead. Even though it ties in with the main story at a few points, it comes off as incredibly panned and not worth your time (pun intended).

This volume continues the great story telling of the previous volumes.
The different art styles are a joy to see. The story lines so familiar but told in a new way. Whilst adding onto the TMNT story.

It's good to see characters taken seriously and great stories told with them.
TMNT opens it self up to many interpretations and there's room for all these interpretations. But, i am specially enjoying a "darker" take on the story.

Loved the Ghostbuster cross over. Two of my favourite franchises coming together. I hope it's the first of a few more collaborations.

Ends with the most shocking twists yet. And it has my mind racing on how the writers will get around this or fix it...

It kind of stings to score this low, but it is probably the weakest volume yet. The "Turtles in Time" and the Ghostbusters crossover mini make up half the volume, and boy were those issues a drag to get through. I get that they're supposed to be lighthearted, fun, all ages comics, but they really break up the flow of the main series signifcantly. The other two arcs, "New Mutant Order" and "Attack on the Technodrome", were substantially better, though even those felt like they were a bit too decompressed. The highlight of this volume probably has to be Bebob and Rocksteady, who despite their careless and goofy personas, end up being real threats to the Turtles. The cliffhanger at the end was also quite moving and does make for a nice hook into the next volume.

This volume was tricky and I think it was partly due to these collections containing EVERYTHING and I found some of the supplementary material hard work. For instance while I admire them making a Ghostbusters crossover part of the main continuity, I feel it's creating a bit of a chore almost forcing readers to go through what should be an optional gimmick.
The main story is still strong, with a great convergence of storylines, adversaries, and team turtle on attacking the technodrome. And the volume ends with a dramatic cliffhanger.
The art and writing is good and I think it's just the additional material that drags this volume down. In the initial volumes the extras fitted seamlessly but here it feels forced and a disservice to the main storyline.

The ghostbusters crossover was a bit naff, hence the star drop because it took up so much of the book. But the rest of the story was just incredible. Loved the turtles in time story arc, and Krang’s Technodrome plan comes to a head! I love how Donatello is characterised here, the way old Donnie reflects current Donnie’s fears in turtles in time, and his eventual fears of the Technodrome slowly being realised leading to him taking action make him a very proactive and sympathetic character. The three way battle between the turtles, Krang and shredder was pretty exciting, and the way the volume ended had my jaw on the floor!

Wow...just wow. This was great! I really enjoyed their choices of artists throughout most if this which is not always the case the way they switch up art styles as they go. The asides were fantastic, with a fun rump through time and a crossover with the Ghostbusters, both of which tied back I to their primary narrative. And they tied up a lot of important storylines in this one so it was very climactic. But where they left it...I will go nuts waiting for the next one. Just wow.

It's unfortunate that the Ghostbusters crossover was as bad as it was (I really really did not like it) because the main stuff is incredible. Turtles in Time to kick it off is pretty good, but the regular issues are so much fun and that cliffhanger at the end is nuts. If I was reading this issue to issue I would be so pumped. Even breezing through it like this is a joy. Just wish that Ghostbusters mini was just not here.

Volume 5 starts off with the Turtles in Time mini-series which is fun and reminiscent of the old games. The ghostbuster crossover is also in this volume and was fantastic. The main story picks up steam again and ends with one heck of a cliffhanger. The quality has not dipped at all in 40+ issues and I am excited to start volume 6.

The first real downturn. But it’s fully due to the two long side series. I didn’t feel the Turtles in Time (save the last issue) or particularly the Ghostbusters crossover really work at all.

That said the main storyline is still fantastic as usual. Excited to see where the story goes from this point.

Holy cow! What a turnaround. For like 2/3 of this volume, I was thinking that this was the weakest volume yet. Like, a LOT of it was filler or crossover, and the art varied wildly from each. But the Ghostbusters art was dope, and when the main arc came back, it really saved the rest of the book. That ending...what?!? Excited to continue!

I feel like it’s been a while since the series has gotten a big impactful series of issues, and the last 4 issues of this collection definitely delivered.
The Turtles in Time mini series was good, but I felt it had way more potential.
Ghostbusters mini series had great art and Easter eggs hidden throughout. Wasn’t my favourite mini series but it was very good.

Turtles in Time was a fun romp that took a more serious turn near the end, it was a detour I enjoyed. The same couldn't be said for the Ghostbusters-crossover, which felt very forgettable. In the main story there's a lot of buildup to a long-awaited conclusion, and it doesn't disappoint. Hard-hitting finale with a shocking cliffhanger. On to volume 6!

Best Krang Story Ever!?!

This collection has a lot of amazing surprises with the Turtles in Time series being near all banger after banger, the Ghostbusters crossover is a delight, and the build up and execution of Shredder and Krang's premise in the series and conflict here is MASTERFUL!!

Still great stuff for the most part. Turtles in Time has such wonderful art, especially the pirate story. I wasn't a fan of the art style they used for the Ghostbusters crossover, however. The characters look so different from the movie portrayals, but maybe they were extrapolating from the animated series instead?

Powerful part of the main arc with sweet, sad, and funny moments. Turtles in Time did a really cool job of connecting with the main storyline but wished the Ghostbusters crossover did it more than just a cursory connection.
