Gave up on this book at page 162. Felt the story didn't move along fast enough and kept hoping after the author got through setting up the plot, things would move along. It didn't.
The hero was Rory MacGrath and I was SO disappointed in him as a lead character. He was a--present day--bouncer in California, and in his early thirties (I think). Existing. Lifted weights in his sparse apartment and had dreams about a beautiful, mysterious lady until his dead grandmother paid him a ghostly visit and told him to "go home."
Home? That's Ireland where he was shipped away at the age of 12 to live with an Aunt and Uncle, but when he was asked to return, he never would/did. He became estranged from all his family members--including a twin sister that they used to share a psychic link. Ugh. I just wanted him to grow up! Found his internal thoughts annoying and he was too immature.
The heroine, Saraid, was from the past. When? I'd have to guess at about 1400ish. The author indicated "Ancient Ireland." She had the misfortune of being the settlement agreement of a feud between two families and was promised in marriage to the other side by her twin brother, with whom she had a psychic connection, but had not shared in many years.
There were turns and twists and a whole lot of extrapolation to the plot. Very lengthy descriptions including detailed clothing factoids. Ugh. I found the dialogue in the past very annoying to read. Yes, that's how they talked. I felt like some of this book was a history lesson in the making and I'm not at all wowed by foreign terms thrown about.
As I continued to become more and more frustrated with this book, I decided that I had too many other books that I wanted to read and gave up. Maybe it got better? In any event, it was not for me.

I am just in total awe of Ms. Quinn’s Haunting books. These first two books are some of the best I’ve read in the last year. Her writing has a haunting quality all its own to go along with the titles and the storylines she’s given readers. And her characters, especially the hero of this book, are intricate and simple at the same time. I’m amazed at her talent.
Though we have the same characters in these first two books, it’s really the Book of Fennore that ties everything together. This evil tome draws these people to it for its own purposes. It has torn them apart over the years, but in doing so, it has also given them their destiny and the happiness with which to live that destiny.
Rory’s life came apart when he was twelve years old. Literally. The night his father disappeared with the Book of Fennore, Rory nearly disappeared right along with him, but his sister, Dani, used her power to bring him back. Though he was safe after that, he was significantly changed. So much so he was eventually sent from his home in Ireland to California to live with his aunt and uncle, his mother not able to deal with him.
The plan was for Rory to eventually go back home, but he never did. He found he liked his new and simple life, with no other worldly goings-on to give him the creeps. And he’s always known his family has been better off without him and his troublemaker attitude.
Now out of the blue, however, his grandmother decides to give him a little haunting after her death, telling him it’s time to come home, his destiny awaits. He wants to ignore such a crazy idea, but the next thing Rory knows is he’s back in Ireland, back where memories assault him, as does his dream lady who has haunted his sleep for some time now.
Saraid isn’t a dream, though. She’s from the distant past, and she calls Rory to her after she also receives a visit from his grandmother. Rory is the salvation of her people who have been under the rule of a cruel, evil father and son team. Finding himself thrown into Saraid’s time, Rory discovers the other half of himself that had been torn from him that fateful night he lost his father. That other half is the Bloodletter, the evil son who kills without conscience or remorse.
Destiny takes over, reunites two halves into a whole, and Rory and Saraid begin their journey of trust, survival, and love. Saraid is a woman of courage, descended of royalty, and she and her brothers lead the last of their people the best they can. It is the call of peace that may lead them down the road to destruction, but with Rory by her side, they both unravel the mysteries surrounding themselves and the Book of Fennore.
And having said all of this, I’m not even coming close to what’s in this book. The story is much more complex, has much more depth, so many layers that are shorn away one at a time to give readers a haunting tale they will never forget. I know I’m not doing this book justice. You have to read it to understand, to get the full effect of what Ms. Quinn has done.
In the end, you will be left haunted.

With her sophomore novel, HAUNTING WARRIOR, Erin Quinn solidifies herself as a must have, must read author. One who shatters all the molds with her sweeping epics of tangled fates and unforgettable characters where not even the monumental pressure of the decades past can barricade those that wish to transcend them. Instead, time is a vital conduit, one that is as essential to Quinn's characters and their survival in the fight against the evil that conspires against them as is the romance that binds them. The Book is never something to be tampered with or bound to, but Saraid, in her desperation to not lose Rory, unwittingly speaks the sacrifice that will cost her more than she ever thought possible.
My Thoughts:
HAUNTING WARRIOR is exactly as the title implies: Haunting. The magic, the time travel, the betrayals, all of it will become a hovering thought in your mind well after you turn over the final pages. Erin Quinn excels as a writer in this second effort of her Haunting Series with her incredibly tight plotting and completed story arcs. My brain scoured the novel looking for holes as its want to do after reading and penning so many reviews, but alas Ms. Quinn indulged my questions and each were solved knowing that they're to be continued on in subsequent installments. Yay!
Rory is a reluctant hero but one that grows exponentially from the anger consumed man-child of the beginning into an unparalleled and fearsome leader by the end. And while the love between him and Saraid is soft and slow in growth, its also vastly complex and it takes every bit of page time to explore all the nooks and crannies that make up their combustible passion for one another.
The Book of Fennore. Its as much of a character as Rory and Saraid and the parallels that were drawn between the three were incredibly frightening but wonderfully engrossing. The history that is unveiled in HAUNTING WARRIOR brings the Book that much more to life as an unstoppable entity with dark and evil motives.
For paranormal lovers who long for sweeping epics as well as a certain level of complexity to their reads, look no further than Erin Quinn's Haunting Series.

On the heels of Haunting Beauty comes Haunting Warrior by Erin Quinn. I have been trying to find more of a wide variety of romance novel authors and I plan to keep Quinn in mind for the future. Help me out here a bit if you will and drop me a line and suggest some of your favorites please, I would appreciate the input, thanks. Back to today’s Flavor of the Day here @ Gelati’s Scoop: Looking for paranormal, time travel, passion, action, suspense….Okay this novel has a little something of everything. One other question I have for you romance readers, where do they get the guys on the front covers? Is there a factory somewhere that turns them out? Amazing!

I guess you can see this is a very busy novel from the description. Boredom is not a component of this novel. I haven’t read Haunting Beauty but I didn’t feel lost or totally left out of the storyline; I like that. Erin Quinn has created a very nice character in Rory, one that I am going to enjoy following in future novels. I am beginning to enjoy reading the paranormal /mystical novels and this one was a good one to kick off the New Year. If you enjoy this genre of novels, don’t pass this novel or series by; you don’t want to be haunted by the memory of a good novel passed by.

To start off, the cover is what drew me in - if there's hunky warrior on the front, I am hooked! This was my first read of Erin Quinn's and while it did not blow me away, it did pique my curiosity enough to follow the outcome. Haunting Warrior blends a story of time travel, magic, war against families, romance and suspense.
Rory is a man who left his birthplace of Ballyfionuir, Ireland, some 25 years ago after his father vanished from earth while uncovering the ancient Book of Fennore. He began a new life in the Pacific but has continued to dream of a beautiful woman who appears to be real, but is out of his touch. She is beckoning Rory in the dream to return home to his Irish homeland. One evening, after closing the club he works at, Rory's dead grandmother comes to him in a vision and tells him that he will return to the land of his birth to fulfill his destiny. She tells Rory that he will find the Book of Fennore and the woman in his dreams. When Rory returns to Ireland and to the very castle ruins from which his father disappeared, he is thrown back in time into a war between families. He takes form of the body of Ruairi, The Bloodletter, betrothed to Saraid, who just happens to be the woman in Rory's dreams. What is intended to be a marriage union of families to end a war becomes a full on battle with Ruairi and Saraid on the run to find the Book of Fennore.
I found that Saraid's character was well developed. She was a strong, courageous heroine who would do anything to protect her family of brothers no matter what the cost to herself. And Rory who started out as a cynical, lost man, at odds with everything he was became a changed man who found his purpose of life in a woman who had called to him over barriers of time.
I have never really cared for stories with a time travel element but what I did like about Haunting Warrior is the author did not have you going back and forth, as it was set mostly in Ireland. I felt like it did drag some through the middle and at times was a chore to continue but not to the extent to turn me completely off. The plot was developed enough to keep me intrigued to see how the relationship of Rory and Saraid would end. Anyone who enjoys a mixed undertone of Chronicles of Narnia and Laura Croft Tomb Rader will appreciate the journey Haunting Warrior takes.

I just wanted to skip to the end...
This book came off more as an origin story and a transition between books 1 and 3.
Pros:
- This was way less confusing than the first book
- The idea behind the two Rorys was interesting
- Quinn has the ability to make me see her descriptions
- Rory is called Ruiri
- I love how the excerpt for the next book is the rough draft and not what Quinn uses in the final product, it was interesting to see what she changed and kept
Cons:
- Was this book even relevant?
- Plot wise nothing really interesting happened which made this a tedious read
- Everyone was so hard on Tiarnan, even Tiarnan was wallowing in his self loathing, I just wish that had been toned down because it was depressing to read and it felt excessive at times
- I usually love the side pairing, but here I couldn't route for the couple, the girl was just too innocent and naive for what was going on
- There were still some confusing things (time travels always confusing though)
- Rory travels back in time to ancient Ireland which is not what I was expecting to read or even wanted to read, I personally prefer a modern setting
- I wish the whole situation with the villain would be resolved already. Is it really necessary to keep dragging that storyline out when there's another bigger villain around?
- I wanted more closure with Rory and his family
Shades of grey:
- The relationship between the leads felt like instant love and there wasn't much development there, but it kind of worked I think?
- Having read three books by Quinn I'm starting to wonder if she has something against fraternal twins, at least the male sibling
- Was it really necessary to kill off Trevor?
Final thoughts: This book was okay, if I hadn't already checked out books 3 - 4 and really enjoyed book 1 of Quinn's new series I'd have dropped this series and never looked bac

Haunting Warrior (second in the Haunting series) is the story of Rory/Ruairi and Saraid; it also tells the beginning of The Book of Fennore. Rory keeps dreaming of a beautiful woman calling to him. After he returns home at the death of his grandmother, he sees the woman even when awake. Following her call, he finds himself back in ancient Ireland and in the body of his 'twin', Ruairi, and being married to his dream woman, who is very unhappy with the situation. He also finds his father who had disappeared when Rory was five but his father, Cathan, has turned cruel and evil. Rory/Ruairi and Saraid have to join together to save her clan from being destroyed.
Haunting Warrior has it all - complex plots, Irish magic, colorful characters, adventure and romance.

I really enjoyed the second book of the Mists of Ireland series. I was not expecting this story to be about Rory, I thought it was going to be a continuation of Haunting Beauty. I enjoyed the internal battle of Rory, the acceptance of his new destiny and life with Saraid. When picking this book, just be aware that this book has a lot more fantasy than Haunting Beauty.

I have always loved time travel stories and this one does not disappoint. Rory is a dissolute man. Working in a dead end job, he goes through the motions of living without any hope.
All he has are his dreams. Dreams that leave him terrified but wanting. Then his grandmother's spirit comes to him with a message. It's time to return to The Island Of Fennore. Only he can finish what was started so long ago when his father and the Book vanished. When Rory arrives home, he finds his twin sister Danni concerned and frightened. She knows he is going searching for the Book and fears the results. For nothing good comes to those who possess the Book. When Rory goes to the ancient castle where his father vanished he is pulled back in time to medieval Ireland and finds himself married to the woman of his dreams. Literally. Rory sees Saraid and knows this is the woman he has been waiting his whole life for.
As Rory and Saraid are pulled into the battle over the possession of the Book we watch their love slowly but passionately come alive. Rory is a true hero of times past. Strong, determined, and loyal he fights all odds to keep Saraid by his side. Saraid is courageous, brave, and very intelligent. She is willing to make difficult choices to save those she loves.
She too has seen and met with Rory's grandmother's spirit and even though she is scared by the encounter she moves forward with purpose and does not forget what she was told. I thoroughly enjoyed Rory and Saraid's love affair. While it was more implied then shown; their heated mixture of glances and soft touches accented their romance to swoon worthy degree. There were some trust issues that seemed to stall the romance at first. They soon resolved themselves in a satisfactory way. The supporting cast of characters are a unique mix of strengths and weaknesses that add to the story's over all appeal.
The plot is a delicious mixture of intrigue and mythesism that left me flying through the pages to see the outcome. I really liked how she immersed and mixed the Book of Fennore and it's powers with the characters in the story. Ms. Quinn has a brilliant prose to her writing that brings a sense of truth without the unbelievable aspect that sometimes occurs with time travel stories. The ending is unique but a worthy ending that enchants you and offers possibilities of what is to come in her next book.
I did feel that the story over did it a bit on the description of certain events as it tended to drag the story down a bit. But it would pick right back up and I would find myself drawn back into her world engrossed and intrigued as before.
I give this book 4 stars and cannot wait to read her next one. I will also be picking up the first in the series, Haunting Beauty, as I have been told it gives a better understanding of what led up to the events in Haunting Warrior.

With HAUNTING WARRIOR I felt Erin Quinn was like a bard of old time who kept me mesmerized with a story of long ago. A story where a warrior finds himself on a quest, where a woman discovers her inner strength, a love that ignites through time, where a book wheels its untold powers and a villain is on the heels of the main characters with nothing but revenge pounding in his blood. The mystery and the mysticism really brings the vibe of an ancient Éire, eerie in its magic and Druid ways, to the forefront. All of these elements gave voice to a sweeping romantic tale that kept me bound to the pages.
To understand the full family dynamics and back story I feel HAUNTING BEAUTY should be read previous to HAUNTING WARRIOR. Rory MacGrath is a man who seems lost, dreams of a woman he doesn’t know and when he is visited by his recently deceased nana he is ordered to return home, to Ballyfionúr. His reunion with his family is short for the woman from his dreams and the Book of Fennore have other plans as he is casted back in time. There he stands face to face with his father who disappeared when he was a child and looks at a man who could be his twin.
All characters are vividly drawn in the mind’s eye and they are a combination of individual strengths and vulnerabilities. Rory is the kind of hero who doesn’t give up, who fights till the bitter end and who fiercely loves. Sariad, the heroine of this tale, is courageous, loyal and a woman who has a will power to do difficult things. The four brothers of Sariad; Tiarnan, somewhat stubborn yet his own mistakes cut him soul deep, Eamonn is the man who I couldn’t get a grasp on but in the end he showed his colors. Michael is the healer, a beta man who knows his value and Liam, the benjamin of twelve years old yet already very known with the ways of his world.
The cast of characters is rich like the mystery that plays an intricate role. I feel if I told a singular thing more than I already have regarding the plot that I’m already revealing too many significant plot points, so I’m not going to say much more. Rory travels through time which makes the setting a historic one in Ireland/Éire, he then faces the man he once called father and looks at The Bloodletter, who could be his twin. Both these two men reign havoc on the Kings of Ireland and their people. To say the mystery is incredibly well put together would be an understatement. In a gradual pace Erin Quinn allowed me to connect the dots and though it isn’t an easy to follow mystery it still is one that demanded my utmost attention.
The Book of Fennore plays a huge role too, I read about its origin and how it constantly kept luring the characters to make use of it. It was a danger right alongside a man who lost his soul bit by bit in the past and who ultimately became an evil, power-hungry villain. He preyed on the clans, crushing them and their ways to leave desperate survivors in his wake. Those survivors were fighting against overwhelming odds but showcased their indomitable spirit. It was every aspect, the book, the villain, the truth Rory and Sariad had to uncover and a survival of Sariad’s clan that all interconnected. While this book definitely had a few weaker moments when descriptions took too much pace out of the story it never lasted more than a few pages before I was fully grabbed again.
Another thing that really grabbed me was the romance, it was poignant, endearing and sweet, and completely fitting the characters Rory and Sariad are. I think at first it was trust issues that needed to work itself out between them which made the romance feel subdued to the plot at work. Still, unknowingly I was getting attached to these two unique characters that when the stakes were high I only wanted them safe, I only wanted their love to survive, not knowing whether Rory would return to his own time or not. The emotions are fierce between them, their passion made me sizzle while it isn’t a large part of how the romance is voiced it all emphasized on the love growing between the two leading characters. The end was one that I didn’t expect for Rory and Sariad but it worked like a charm and I closed the book with a very satisfied sigh.

Book Two in Erin Quinn's Mist of Ireland series. For those who read the previous book, Haunting Beauty, we heard of Rory but never really got introduced to his character. Sure we did get glimpses of him as a child but not a man grown.
Since the day his father "disappeared" from his life Rory felt bereft, like a giant hole or piece of himself was missing. He truly did not feel apart of anything, family included. So he spent much of his life away from Ireland, from his family, and destiny.
However no matter where he went or hid, destiny did not forget him. Oh no, it had it's plans for Rory. Destiny just needed a little meddling help. Bringing him to cusps of what it needed him for.
Saraid - I was so exicted because I had seen this name once in a Celtic name site! So I was not certain what to make of her. Okay okay! I had a secret hope she would be a secret druid. Lol. I know. I know.
For some reason I found this book considerable slower than the first. Perhaps it was the heat that made things drag. But once you get to the middle and slightly over that the pace of the book picks up. Saraid shares the secret she'd been harboring and Rory admits his own.
Though I was sicked at the betrayal. Eamonn's. Though, in a roundabout way, Quinn shows us how the island that Danni and Rory were born on, how it came to be populated, of Danni and Rory and the people they know and love's ancestors. How Benny (sorry cannot spell it) came to be. That was so neat.
Also... I hope in the future books we learn more of what happened to Liam!! He was a cool little boy. And Tiarnan!

Haunting Warrior has a strong atmospheric quality to it. The writing evokes great imagery that sets the scene and the sense of place well and transported me with ease into a complex world. It is a magical and dangerous world ripe with warriors, ancient magic and secrets.
Rory MacGrath has spent in life denying his heritage and trying to put behind the mysterious circumstances of his father's disappearance, which is linked to the Book of Fennore. However, he can't escape his dreams and the woman who haunts it. He is about to come face to face with his destiny and Saraid, the woman of his dreams when he is taken back in time. There he will uncover the secrets of his past, but he must defeat his foes before he can claim his destiny.

I thought the 1st book was good with Danni and Seans journey - Rory's is even better in book 2 of the 4 book series. Book 2 takes you back to the midevil days with battles, betrayals and struggles of 2 Irish families one trying to dominate while betraying, the other trying to survive and use integrity. The families are brought together in a very unlikely way. Quinn shows us how characters of the furture can impact the past and change the course of the future and also set them on the path to their destiny. She spins a tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat and reading into the wee hours of the night just to find out what happens. The only disappointment is that each persons story in this family ends as another begins. You only hope they show up in the next book somehow. I can't wait to find out what happens next. Fantastic adventure, action, romance and smoldering desires what more can you ask for. Don't pass this book up - its a truly wonderful thrilling tale. This book is not for young teens - more for adults due to sexual content.

I wrote a rather long and thoughtful review for the first book in this series. Although the second book lives up to the first, I find myself with very little to add to my previous assessment.
The second book picks up with Rory, brother of Danni from the first book. He's been living in California - first with his aunt and then on his own - since his father vanished in the cave with the book of Fennore when he was a child.
He has been living a very hand-to-mouth off-the-grid style of existence, and shows no intention of returning to Ireland until he gets in his car one night and is confronted by the ghost of his newly deceased grandmother. Rory's grandmother tells him he has a destiny, and it involves the woman he's been dreaming about. He gives away his car (at his grandmother's insistence) and hops a plane for Ireland.
Once again you get a complex story involving a magic book, individuals with special psychic gifts, dream lovers, ghosts, and time travel.

Haunting Warrior is a follow up to Haunting Beauty. Start there if you would like to read this series. The book of Fennmore is a seemingly evil book that makes the people who come in contact change. they get something they need from the book but it takes away something from them as well. Rory has been living a half life since he was 5 and touched the book with his father. Torn in two you might say literally now years later his deceased nana comes to tell him what he must do to change things. Saraid has been haunting his dreams for years and he suddenly sees her in flesh and blood and he starts the journey that will get him back home he hopes. But where is home now??? This book is a complex plot with alot going on but not so much you can't follow plus it keeps you guessing as to how this whole thing might play out. Awesome finish as the end then there is a excerpt of Haunting Desire that is the next book in this series. It gets you right at the edge of your seat!

I liked this book, but did not love it. There are many fabulous things about Haunting Warrior; the setting, the time-travel, the plot. Yet, the characters did not fully work for me. Rory and Saraid had great potential, but ultimately failed to bring me into their lives. I sort of blame it on Rory; too hunky,and not enough finesse, I guess. At times, his lingo felt out of place, and as such, would jolt me out of the world. Saraid, she was a bit better, but not by too much. She is a strong woman full of fabulous capabilities, so it was a bit nauseating at times when she expressed such devotion towards Rory. Beyond all that, the book was quite fun to read. I did enjoy my time spent with Haunting Warrior. Like I said, I liked this book, but I just did not love. I must add, Erin Quinn does craft unique mystical plots, and my first Quinn book, Haunting Beauty,blew me away. Go read that book. I am a fan of Quinn's writing style so I do plan on reading Haunting Desire.

'Haunting Warrior' is book 2 in the Mists of Ireland series by Erin Quinn. This is truly an amazing book! This will appeal to readers who enjoy paranormal romance, time travel and fantasy. There's plenty of action and adventure, deeply felt emotions and passion, and Erin Quinn is truly gifted at painting vivid pictures in the minds of readers. The evil "Book of Fennore" is a wicked character all on its own, and as I was reading I couldn't help but think to myself, "Hmmm... very 'Army of Darkness'." I'm a sucker for a good time travel romance and I found myself not wanting to put it down. Now I want to read the rest of the books in this series, because I can't imagine them being anything but spectacular.

Dianna Gabaldon remarked on the cover of Haunting Beauty, "A complex, mysterious, and very satisfying story!" That sums it up for me too. I loved this unique time travel/ghost story. It reminded me of the old fashioned ghost stories that grabbed your interest and kept you guessing throughout - kind of like how the movie "The Sixth Sense" was unique and grabbed your attention - you couldn't believe what was happening.
I love the style that Erin Quinn writes, having chapters end with a shocking revelation. Her prose is very sophisticated, which I really admire and appreciate. Her characters are filled with such depth and passion that you don't always get in paranormal characters. I also really enjoyed her unique spin on time travel. I also loved how she weaved Irish folktales of magic with mystery.
I highly recommend this series!

June 6, 2013I couldn't finish it. I could handle the magic and the 'bibbity bobbity boo' and parallel-ish universes, but the thing that got me was all this talk about a Book we're told nothing about!!
Why is it important? Where did it come from? Whose was it? What does it do? Are we supposed to believe it's something like the Ring from LOTR? So maybe the Book has a mind of its own -- what does it want? The Ring wanted to "return to the hand of its master" and the Book...?
I got about halfway through and my interest simply stuttered to a stop. I didn't want to stumble my way through any more half-explained, semi-magical Irish warmaking. (That sounds a lot more harsh than I mean it to... I really like the premise - a lot - but I don't think the book quite realized its potential.)

I love, love, love this series! Ireland, mysticism, magic, time traveling, sword fights, and love between a hunky guy with attitude and a no-nonsense woman. What more could you ask for? I highly recommend this entire series to any and all readers (and my fellow Irish friends are already buying it off the shelves across the country). My only pointer would be to read the books fairly close together and not wait a few months in between the books [like I did between one and two :( ]. Once you start the book, you won't want to put it down!

Part 2 of Erin Quinn's series this time it follows Danni's twin Rory. His gran's spirit comes to bring him home. Begrudging he goes and ends up vanishing into the distant past. There he finds his other half, literary, and his father. The man who's been missing since he's five is there in front of him ordering his doppelganger to marry and bed a woman he's been seeing in his dreams.
The book is fast and action packed.

An interesting twist on the whole time travel thing but enjoyable though it does start rather slowly. The main character, Ruairi is not a likeable person and it takes a very long time for the H/H to lose their distrust and fear of each other. I liked the overall back story which flows very well from the first book. I'm interested in seeing how Saraid's brothers fare in the future.
