With threats of past captivity starting to haunt them, Jordan and his friends make their flight to the North to shelter in the home of Grace’s prestigious grandparents—who also happen to be Loyalists. During their stay, Jordan and Jake are enrolled by an American soldier to fulfill espionage monitoring in their new environment, and they find themselves dodging enemy threats and encountering suspicious characters. But as the fire of the Revolution’s fury continues to roar, raging battles, mutinous outcries, and plagues of prejudice threaten Jordan’s future and the welfare of those close to him. From working as battlefield medics to fighting the blazes of enflamed cities, will Jordan and his friends survive to see the war’s final end? And are the battles of without as real as the Battles of Within?

I am the firstborn of a rambunctious family of six children—plus a Chihuahua. I was homeschooled since middle school. Writing and digital art has been my passion since high school, including a bit of poetry. Although English wasn’t my early “specialty”, as a child, I oftentimes spent my time in the shower and playing outside telling stories by “talking to myself”—much to the bewilderment of my parents. My ultimate goal is to create safe yet adventurous stories for tweens and teens that will entertain and teach them how to live a life that glorifies God. I currently reside in the hilly regions of southwestern Virginia, USA.

WANTED! With a $500 bounty over Jordan's head, the Carter family realizes that the plantation owner is probably looking for the others also. (That story is in Book 2.) Where to go? Connecticut, to Mrs. Carter's parents, seems to be the most practical solution. Whilst certainly what most would think this a reasonable idea, one has to remember that this story is set towards the latter part of the Revolutionary War. Jordan and the younger Carters are very much on the side of the Americans whilst the elderly Carters are staunch loyalists! How will things work out?

Once in Connecticut Jordan and Jake are asked to be spies. Can they keep their "job" a secret from the loyalists? During the burning of New London the family, especially the boys, get a big lesson on loving your enemies.

As the story-line in this book takes the reader through to the end of the war and the final surrender at Yorktown, readers are given a glimpse at what life would have been like back then. The risks of spying are great, the casualties of war definitely not pleasant. This book makes learning about history easy. Yes, the characters are fictional but also realistic. The writing is clean although could use some editing in places. Of course, due to the time period this book is set in, there is violence and death.

We read this series (trilogy) aloud whilst studying this time period in our history lessons. Jordan, whilst only a teenager, has a strong grip on how he should be living for the Lord. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED but start at the beginning and read in order. I purchased this book for my Kindle. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz
