Olivia’s curious. Jessica’s closeted. Can a lost dog lead them to love? After learning her longterm boyfriend cheated on her, Olivia Parker is starting over in the small town of Port Perry. More than ever, she's focused on finding herself and what she wants in life—until a sick dog wanders into her house and reminds her how to love. Dr. Jessica Grey leads a quiet, private life. After being rejected by her family, she’s convinced she only needs the animals at her clinic to keep her company. But when a beautiful new resident brings a stray dog in for a checkup, Jessica craves a human connection. The pair team up to find the dog’s owner and as much as Olivia enjoys Jessica’s company, she can't shake the fear of being betrayed again—and Jessica’s concerned about how a relationship with Olivia might out her. Will their pasts keep them lost, or will they find themselves in each other? Lost and Found is first in the Port Perry Girls series of stand-alone small town romances. If you like sweet, steamy, and pet-friendly romance, then you’ll love Gia Rose’s debut.
Gia Rose is a new author of lesbian fiction and animal enthusiast. When she isn't snuggled up reading with her two dogs, she's busy plugging away at her newest books. Gia lives in South Florida with her wife and their fur family—their two dogs, Idgie and Ruth.
I love books with docs and animals so this one appealed to me. Overall its an okay read. The story flowed fairly well, the characters were decently written, and things happened pretty easily. There are always things that could be better or things that may have been overlooked. Jessica is not closeted but she's not living as the saying goes "out, loud, and proud." She has a fear of being discovered, a fear of losing/disappointing her family, and thats just to name a couple. None of that is resolved; mentioned and alluded to a few times but never really addressed or resolved. Then there is the romance/chemistry. It just didnt seem enough for how quick everything moved. The spark just didnt feel ignite worthy. Maybe I am just nitpicking but its what I sometimes do. Like I siad it was a nice read...a good 3* and free on kindleUnlimited.
Lost and Found kicks off the Port Perry Girls series with a short and sweet lesfic romance.
Olivia Parker just moved to Port Perry, MD to escape a failed relationship back in Detroit, MI. Her ex-boyfriend cheated. Olivia returned to single life after spending five years together. As she finished emptying out the moving truck, she felt a cold, wet nose brush her elbow. Both startled and amused, she found a small black and white spotted dog. The dog was obviously older and lost. Without any identifying tags, Olivia had no idea who lost him or where he belonged. He was a new friend and kindred spirit that she named Houndini.
Olivia and Houndini settled into her studio apartment after a day spent running errands. The stray dog wouldn't eat any food. Rather than risk anything serious developing, she made a last minute appointment at Port Perry Paws. Dr. Jessica Grey added another furry patient to the end of her long work day. After talking to Olivia and examining Houndini, Jessica decided to monitor his stomach ailment overnight at her pet clinic. When his tests came back clean and he started eating, Houndini recovered completely from his sore tummy. Jessica gave Olivia the good news of his improvement and offered to help her track down his original home.
Lost and Found alternates the narration between the two main characters. Olivia and Jessica fast track a romance once Houndini brings them together. Jessica fails to follow the lesbian golden rule about dating straight women, because Olivia has faith in their budding relationship. The main characters depend on the help of Jessica's friend/coworker Sarah and an older woman named Marlene. Jessica's father and Olivia's mother enter the story briefly when things get complicated. Overall, I give this short novel 3 stars. I liked the sweet romance, but the writing and story lacked real depth. I'd make a small wager that Sarah features more prominently in book two of the series.
The two MCs did not seem very mature or maybe the writer is just young. I just couldn't drum up much interest in this book. I was glad when I finished it and I'm not interested in reading the bonus chapter.
Lost and Found (Port Perry Girls, #1) — Gia Rose (17 chapters + Epilogue) July 18, 2019
Olivia escapes Michigan to head to the east coast when she catches her boyfriend of five years in bed with another woman. As she's moving in, a dog jumps in the trailer and Olivia begins a quest to find the owner, which weaves through sexy vet Jessica. Surely Olivia isn't lesbian or bi, is she?
Although this is an endearing story that the younger set may enjoy (YA and 20-30 somethings,) I had some issues with the meandering dialog between the characters and the not quite believable ending.
Sexy bit is on chapter nine (avoid that if that's not your thang. I mean...the whole chapter can be skipped.) And then chapter ten Jessica is talking to her BFF about last night, so that can be skipped as well.
There is a lot of dithering going on between the characters. If the author would clean that up (and a little more than enough grammatical and spelling errors,) this might be a much better read. However, it was a fast read despite this.
Not my cup of tea (I am past the coming out sexy stories,) but WILL appeal to a vast majority of the younger set (or those who are young by heart.)
This is my first time with this author and it will not be my last. I really enjoyed the story and can see lots of windows for more than one follow up. I became invested in the character's i always think that this the sign of a well written book it you care about the people then you enjoy the book. I will happily wait for the follow up with fingers crossed for more than one book . I would not advise reading this in bed its 12 40 am despite me saying I was having an early night. P.s who could not 💘💘 💘 💘 Houdini no spoilers . Hope to be reading follow up soon thank you for a 👍 book. Highly recommend.
A cute story with good characters, but some technical issues. It seemed as if the section around the first two dates had editing errors or perhaps changes to one chapter that were not accounted for in the later chapter. (Such as a nickname being used, then later the character reacting to it as if it were the first time the other woman used that nickname for her or mentioning how much wine one of the characters had drunk as a reason for something when there hadn't been any mention of drinking prior to that in that scene.) But, all in all, it's a fun story with a cute ending and sets up the next character for a follow up novel quite well.
At least find a subject matter expert to ask if you're writing about something you don't know!
It's glaringly obvious that author Gia Rose knows nothing about veterinary medicine. Anyone who has owned boy cats could tell you that UTI requires antibiotics and sometimes surgery, but that only kidney failure needs dialysis. And a dog with a tummyache would be evaluated and treated, not kept overnight. The veterinary miscues make immersion in the story impossible for me. Next time, dear author, find a vet, or a lesbian with a bunch of cats at least, to read over your draft and help you avoid big blunders.
I enjoyed this debut novel from this author. It was a good light read. I liked Olivia from the start but wasn’t too keen on Jessica (too begin with) but as the story line progressed she grew on me. Enjoyed the story line and even though I prefer cats I fell in love with Houndini (the dog). There were a couple of grammer errors (not many). I look forward to reading more in the series.
Sorry - didn't really work for me - too basic, too short - the perfect book for a hangover as need no input - but unfortunately I was sober! Not one to look at prices after reading, surprised to find it was mid-range (£3 - £4) compared to longer, more complex books (eg: Diana Kane) which are cheaper. Then I feel "nasty" for raising such issues when writing is so hard and hardly anyone makes a good living at it. Just not my scene. Move on.
Olivia moves to Port Arthur after discovering her boyfriend of years was cheating. She finds a lost dog in the moving van. When he starts not feeling good, she mets the gorgeous Veternarian, Jessica. A new adventure of discovery begins for travel writer and blogger, Olivia. Great story.
This was a nice light read. I enjoyed the story and the romance, but the ending seemed off a little. And the epilogue had a few holes in it where things didn't make sense.
I read this using Prime Lending. I enjoyed the story itself very much and will most likely read the next. At times the the conversations felt strange, almost child like. All in all a good story.
Time continuity doesn’t follow story. The editing is lacking, missing words. Epilogue says six months later. Yet Sarah hadn’t named her dog? Felt like the author was rushed to complete this story.
I have mixed feelings on this book. While I did enjoy it, I felt the relationship was rushed. I felt it needed more time. I did enjoy both characters and I’m looking forward to book 2.
Very sweet story. It moved along pretty quick. I do enjoy the story and will read the next in the series. I'm sorry I missed out on the bonus chapter at the end.
