The best book I've read by Elle James, who is very hit and miss. This is a really exciting, action packed tale. Reese Brantley is an aspiring bodyguard who has been hired by a senator to accompany his son Ferrence Klein to the Congo to arrange deals over resources. It isn't long before the two of them are kidnapped by rebels! Dalton "Diesel" Landon is part of a SEAL team sent to infiltrate the rebels and rescue Reese and Ferrence. Reese and Diesel wind up on the run through the Congo, where the inevitable happens. No, not horrible death by wild animals. Love, of course!

It was very refreshing to get an Intrigue tale not set in Texas. In fact, it's in another country entirely, something Intrigue rarely does! The action hits the ground running and rarely lets up. There's the kidnapping, the rescue, a trek through the Congo jungle, a conference that gets attacked - there's always something going on! The plot is easy to follow, unlike many Elle James books I've read, and wraps up in a satisfactory manner. This is the first book in a mini-series, but it appears to be very much a standalone story. Hopefully, the following books can stick to this standard.

There were a couple of issues. Being the first book in a six book mini-series, all of Diesel's teammates are present here. All five of them. I could barely tell them apart. I imagine their personalities will be more defined in their individual books, but here they just kind of took up space. The final twist seems a bit silly and unlikely , but it was unexpected. There was also a bit of casual racism with the description of African characters and their skin colour.

But this was a rip-roaring action tale that kept me entertained from start to finish. It would make a great B-grade action movie. As for the romance, I guess it worked. I liked both the h and H and got a feeling for their attraction. But even if the romance had been a bust, the fast-paced exciting action certainly made up for that!

Elle James has done a fantastic job of researching for this new series about a team of Navy SEALs sent to the Congo on a rescue mission. Although the book is on the short side, it packs everything you need - action, adventure and off the charts sexy romance. Absolutely a fabulous book.

Reese Brantley is an Army vet and former MMA fighter, now bodyguard (babysitter) to the heir of a billionaire who happens to also be the current Secretary of State, Matthew Klein. She is tough but that doesn't help much you are unconscious. She and Ferrence Klein have been taken hostage by Congolese rebels and there isn't a thing she can do.

Navy SEAL “Diesel” Dalton Samuel Landon and his team are being sent on a clandestine mission to rescue Reese and Ferrence. Things go sideways and Diesel and Reese get separated from the rest of the Team. Now they are on their own and are facing not only armed rebels, dangerous jungle creatures, but a red hot sexual attraction.

This is a fast-paced story that kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters are interesting, strong, and likable. I hope to read more about the other Seals. There is something for everyone in this book. I look forward to reading what happens next.

One Intrepid SEAL by Elle James
Harlequin Intrigue. One of my favorite authors in this line. Strong heroine that has a habit of saving herself. Strong hero that’s not afraid to let the heroine do her own thing, nor afraid to admit he has feelings for her.

I instantly liked the heroine. I was worried about the intimate part of the story because she had a horrible experience in her past, but apparently that was just me and not the heroine.

I would have liked to know more about their relationship after the mission. Their intent is to see each other again and create a relationship beyond the storyline / mission. I hope they do. Maybe we will find out when more of the series is released. This is the first in the Mission: Six series that currently shows as a 4 book series.

>Book review – One Intrepid SEAL
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 1st in the Mission: Six Series and ends in an HEA. Diesel is a Navy SEAL sent in to rescue the son of the Secretary of Defense and the son’s assistant, Reese. Diesel doesn’t have much of a backstory, but Reese’s backstory is horrific. Reese left the army after being captured, raped and tortured. She then went in to MMA to channel her aggression. Posing as an assistant, she is really the son’s bodyguard on his ill-timed trip to the unsettled Congo.
>Reese and Diesel are separated from the rest of the squad and have to hide and survive in the jungle. The descriptions of jungle life (gorillas, dirt, bugs, heat and hippos) are very vivid. The Congo is being politically torn apart by the differing opinions of 2 brothers, one being the elected leader of the area. I liked the setting and the conflicts seemed very realistic, however, the way the conflict is settled is way too simplistic. One of the brothers starts a coup and just showing the brother the poor conditions of the mines in the country gets everyone on the same page?
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this story 4 stars. The chemistry between Diesel and Reese is electric. The adventure is fun and exciting, but the resolution to the conflict is weak.

What do you get when you pit a discharged Army soldier -turned MMA fighter- turned bodyguard against DRC rebels ? A rip roaring, frantic adventure for survival . But can she escape danger alone? Probably, but what's the fun in that:) Enter a super sexy, well-trained Navy Seal to help save the day and "what had started as an escape from enemy territory had almost changed into an exotic adventure." Get the picture? In One Intrepid Seal we go on a wild ride with Reese and Diesel through the DRC, evading armed rebels, surviving the deadly banks of the Congo (think snakes, mosquitoes, warthogs, crocs) , and even a troop of wild gorillas! After that, let's not forget Reese's client, Ferrence, whom she is there to protect as well as the minor incident concerning a possible coup in the country! There are a lot of elements to this story, but they all manage to work - we get gritty romance, deadly tension-filled adventure, emotional drama, and even a little bit of humor. Were there some unbelievable eye roll parts (he used his c.c. in the DRC while on a mission???)-of course-but overall a solid read. I received an ARC of this book to honestly review.

Sometimes a simple big game hunting trip in Africa doesn't end up so simple. Certainly not when body guard, Reece Brantley and her charge end up in the hands of hostile rebels. This is not the best start to Reece's new protection agency business. Guarding Ferrence Klein who is in Africa for a vacation and international conference and also acting as his assistant is Reece's first job. It may end up being her last.

Instead of sending the demaned ranson, Klein's very influential father who happens to be the U.S. Secretary of Defense sends Navy SEALs to Africa to recue his son and Reece. "Diesel" Dalton Landon leads the SEAL team to rescue them. That rescue was fairly easy. But it is only the beginning of lots of action with various twists and turns as the international conference begins. Diesel and Reece must think quicky and react event faster to stay safe. Along the way they find they have fallen in love. But can this work considering their jobs?

This is an action-packed, fast moving story. One Intrepid SEAL is the first book in author Elle James' Mission Six new series. I look forward to reading more of these stories.

This book has it all - action, adventure, suspense, romance, funny parts and sexy times.

My heart raced this entire book, I couldn't put it down. The way Mrs. James writes you feel personally connected to the characters. So when they are in a tight spot, you feel it also. You relate to the fear of heights and gorilla's.

I also liked the getting to know you stage between the two leads. They were interested in each other but yet in the beginning it was sort of in the background. I am not a fan of books like this were they are in these tense spots and all they can think about is getting busy with the other. It takes me out of the scene. However, the romance and sexy times pick up mid story. Their chemistry was off the charts.

Another part of the book that I really liked was the banter between the guys. They didn't play a huge role in this book, but when they were together you could just tell they were close. Some of the lines were laugh out loud! My husband thought I was crazy!

This book is almost non-stop full of action, suspense, and intrigue. There are a number of hold your breath moments as Diesel, Reese, and his fellow SEALS traverse the jungles of the Congo, and the associated politics. Let's not forget the other trials and tribulations that occur.

I loved the fact that Reese was so kick a$$, while still showing her vulnerability. The same goes for Marly, the helo pilot. Although we didn't get to see her vulnerable side, hopefully she will appear in an upcoming book.

Based on what Diesel and Reese have endured, their case of instalove is completely understandable. I would have loved an epilogue to read about what happens next with them. I am hoping the other books in this series will feature Diesel's SEAL brothers who we encountered in this book. Maybe we will get an update on Reese and Diesel then.

Fast paced and exciting, I devoured this book in one sitting.

I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

I really liked this story! It's well written and engaged me from beginning to end. I had fun reading it and there was plenty of action and intrigue as well. Reese gets into a bad situation because of her client. They end up kidnapped in the Congo jungle being held hostage. Diesel is part of the team that comes in to rescue them. Reese and Diesel end up separated from the team and making their own way out of the jungle while trying to avoid the rebels. They get to know each other. I liked that the story didn't end once they got out of the jungle. We got to get more of the story and figure out more about what was going on. The sex is fairly explicit but not frequent. I loved how the story flowed. It kept me wanting to turn pages and find out what was going to happen next.

This was an enjoyable afternoon read. It made a refreshing change for the book to be set in Africa (Democratic Republic of Congo).

The hero Diesel is hunky, dependable and upstanding doing the job he and his team are trained to do without fanfare. I could really get to like him.

The heroine is Reese, former soldier, former MMA fighter and on her first assignment as a bodyguard, guarding a Senators son on his mission to the DRC. As a woman I found her likeable but as a bodyguard I found it hard to see her in the job. She needed rescuing as often as her client. Diesel found her to be tough and resilient but I would have liked her to be a little more feisty and proactive.

For the above reasons I have rated this a 3 star.

This book was received free in return for my honest review and the views expressed are entirely my own.

Liked this story and I really want to hear more from Diesel's team. Reese is so strong and finds herself in a bad situation. After she and her client are kidnapped, Navy SEALs are sent in to rescue them and things don't always go as planned. The client was rescued, but Reese and Diesel were separated from the rest of the team and had to walk through the jungle where they encountered lots of wildlife and more rebels. Once they find help, you would think they were safe. Wrong! Now they and the team find themselves helping to stop a rebellion and a government take over. She is a bodyguard and he is a SEAL, not a good combination for a relationship, but they are drawn to each other. Will they be able to make it?

Diesel, a Navy Seal and Reese, retired Army, now body guard have a wild ride when they come into contact in the DR of Africa. Suspenseful, kidnappings, Congolese warring lords, extreme poverty, governments taking selfish advantage and romance; just to mention some contents. Combine these factors and you have a great story that's hard to put down.

I really liked this story. I have enjoyed this author before and I enjoyed her story again. In this story we meet "Diesel" Dalton Landon and his team who is sent in to rescue Reese Brantley and her boss. It was interesting to read for you get to learn about the Congo and how the SEALs have to go into a country without any backing. It was a good book that gave you an idea about what happens in places overseas. It will keep the pages turning to see what is going to happen next. Is a interesting book.

1. One Intrepid SEAL
Review:
5 stars
I purchased a copy of the Harlequin Intrigue romantic military based suspense novel One Intrepid Seal: Mission 6 series book 1: Diesel and Reese by Elle James and this review was given freely.
Drama and action packed from the start with some vivid violence and of course a touch of romance as it is Harlequin. This novel is a good introduction to the brotherhood of men in SEAL Boat Team 22 but focuses primarily on six of them: Diesel, Pitbull, Harm, T-Mac, Big Jake and Buck.
When former Army captive, MMA fighter and now bodyguard Reese Brantley takes her first job to secretly guard the lecherous son of the Secretary of Defense,Ferrence Klein, during his diplomatic mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa, they are kidnapped twice and only the US Navy's 10 man SEAL Boat Team 22 led by Texan Dalton " Diesel" Landon and private small plane pilot Marly Simpson can rescue them.
18+ contains vivid violence. Can be read alone but is best if read in sequence.

2.Two Dauntless Hearts:
Review:
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the Harlequin Intrigue steamy romantic military based suspense novel Two Dauntless Hearts: Mission 6 series book 2: Pitbull and Marly by Elle James and this review was given freely.
An alpha SEAL with a vulnerable side. A little Murphy's Law, fate and a few surprises turn what was suppose to be a leisurely one week Kenyan, African safari on Talia Montclair's All Things Wild Safari & Resort into unexpected and violent encounters for the six SEAL Boat Team 22 members with a human trafficking and poaching ring. After two short mission flights, sharpshooter Percy "Pitbull" Taylor finds himself again on Marly Simpson's bush plane fighting his fear of heights and fixed-wing aircrafts while also fighting his growing attraction to former Virginian Marly.
18+ Contains vivid violence. Can be read alone but is best if read in sequence.

3.Three Courageous Words:
Review:
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the Harlequin romantic military based suspense novel Three Courageous Words : Mission 6 series book 3: Buck and Angela by Elle James and this review was given freely.
An action and drama packed unexpected reunion in South Sudan with an abrupt but happy ending which ends where it began at the All Things Wild Safari and Resort.
Tasked with stopping Sudanese People’s Resistance Army leader General Ibrahim Koku's reign of terror, mass massacres, and divergence of US aide, the six Team 22 members finds their safari vacation cut short and themselves protecting then rescuing Doctors without Boards' Chicago native Dr. Angela Vega who just happens to be Navy SEAL Corpsman Graham “Buck” Buckner's long lost love.
18+ Contains some vivid violence and mildly steamy scenes. Can be read alone but is best if read in sequence.

4.Four Relentless Days : Harm and Talia Not purchased

5.Five Ways to Surrender: Big Jake and Alex Not purchased

6. Six Minutes to Midnight: Purchased in the Valiant Tracker two book collection
Review:
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the Harlequin military based romantic suspense novel Six Minutes to Midnight: Purchased in the Valiant Tracker two book collection: Mission 6 series book 6: T-Mac and Kinsley by Elle James and this review was given freely.
At times poignant, this action packed novel provides a good update on all the couples from the series while providing scenes of missions gone wrong, sabotage and arms dealing at Camp Lemonnier. The loan bachelor of the team of 6, Petty Officer Trace "T-Mac" McGuire laments his single status until Army Specialist Kinsley Anderson and her German Shepherd, Sergeant Agar, are assigned to his team and he finds himself falling in love with the targeted newbe he is ordered to protect.
18+ Contains some violence and mildly steamy scenes. Can be read alone but is best if read in sequence.

7. K-9 Defense
5 stars
I purchased a copy of the Harlequin Intrigue after military based novel K-9 Defense: Colter, Rebel and Kensie by Elizabeth Heiter in the 2 book collection Valliant Tracker and this review was given freely.
Easy flowing and suspenseful with a clean romance and some violence this novel features 27 yo Chicago orchestral violinist Kensie Morgan who rushes to Desparre,Alaska in search of her younger sister Alanna who was kidnapped fourteen years before. Although the story ends happily, Kensie, medically discharged ex-Marine MP Colter Hayes and his military working dog Rebel find themselves in many challenging situations.

Catches you from the first sentence and takes you on an exciting ride

One Intrepid Soldier is a fast-paced adventure full of action, suspense, humor, and romance. The characters are engaging and the storyline strong and captivating. This book is full of adventure from kidnapping, escaping from rebels, dodging bullets, navigating the politics of a foreign country, riots and evading gorillas in the jungle to adrenaline-pumping rescues, witty banter and sexy times. Who could ask for more excitement than that!?

Ms. James does a great job of drawing you into the story with the non-stop action and solid characters. I enjoyed the fact that Reese was a strong, independent woman who could take care of herself but also knew when to ask for and accept help when it was needed, and that she also kept a level head and thought situations through. I also really enjoyed Dalton “Diesel” and his team of SEALS. The guys did not have a huge appearance in the story but they made an impact, nonetheless. The banter between them was fun and light and you could tell they were close. As for Diesel, though he was a take-charge alpha personality he never disregarded Reese’s thoughts, opinions or feelings in any situation. He, and his team, accepted her as one of them and included her in their discussions and planning. Reese and Diesel also have the making of a great couple. I liked the fact that even though their attraction was mutual from the start it did not overpower the story and their developing relationship was not rushed. This book is definitely a page-turner you will not want to put down.

Oh dear, I appear to me in the minority here with my rating - sorry about that, but I didn't really like it that much once I got into it. This book has been nicely written, but unfortunately the story and the H/h failed to capture my attention. I just couldn't get a clear picture of them in my head and felt the character development was lacking. Also, some thoughts and events were repeated/recapped - minor, but annoying when you just read the same thing a few pages before. Editor's fault.

I liked the idea of the kidnapping/rescue and that the H/h were trapped in the Congo together but that section was over way too soon and events fell into place too neatly. I thought that the whole first part of the book's storyline in the jungle could have been developed much more than it was and the way they hid from the 'goons', wasn't believable for me.

The story involving Sam and her boss, once they were rescued, (as if nothing happened) moved along at a fast clip, as did her romance with Diesel (instant attraction for no reason). The kidnapping seemed a 'mere blip' in their life and my attention started to wander. Could be because I've read a lot of these type of 'special op' books and was expecting something 'meatier' and more confronting. I didn't feel the romantic connection at all between Diesel and Sam. The romance scenes were steamy to a degree but lacked connection in my opinion. The back story was a big feature in this book and there were quite a lot of secondary characters. I have some other books from this author on my e-reader, so I'll see how I go with them. 2.5 stars.

I loved this read that had me on the edge of my seat throughout it with plenty of action, some suspense, steam, an alpha SEAL, and a strong woman. Reese is hired as an assistant to the Secretary of Defence’s son, Ferrence, when in actuality she is his bodyguard, he just doesn’t know it. Their trip to the Congo turns out to be more dangerous than either of them thought, getting kidnapped and held for ransom, was not part of their plans. Diesel’s team is brought in to rescue the pair and they go searching for them through the jungle, what he doesn’t expect to find is a strong, capable woman who can keep up to him when the going gets real tough.
An amazing read with heart pounding action and nail biting scenes. A read with a beautiful strong woman, not only on the outside but on the inside, with a story of her own that had my heart aching and then cheering with everything she has overcome and conquered. A read with an alpha man who is like a dream and who will do anything to protect his woman. A read with a few chuckles and a hot SEAL team. A read with sensual scenes that gave me goosebumps and made my spine tingle. A read that was very hard to put down and the only thing missing for me was an epilogue (I love my epilogues) to make it complete in my eyes.

Diesel has been sent in after the Secretary and Defence's son, a bit of slimmer if I'm honest! He was undertaking trade talks and being assisted by Reese, ex amy veteran, ex MMA fighter and now bodyguard. Reese has over come some major trauma including being tortured and raped by Al-Qaeda. Her first charge as bodyguard however looks to have gone FUBAR before she even gets her business off the ground!

Diesel and the team manage to rescue them but he and Reese get separated from the team and make their own way to safety. They now have to evade warring factions in the Congo and those who profit from the warfare.

The jungle setting is so carefully created, it kinda leaps off the page at you. I was feeling bugs walking on me! Reese has overcome so much and whilst wary and watchful around Diesel, she soon relaxes in his comfortable presence. The love story and action are well crafted but the summit between the factions was unrealistic in how quickly they set aside their differences. However, I'm allowing for artistic licence!

4 1/2 STARS!

An exciting kick-off to a new series taking place in the heart of Africa! From beginning to end, Elle James blesses us with descriptions so raw we feel like we are there beside them among the glorious scenery. The action is exciting and the characters are fun to get to know. Looking forward to seeing more of the team in future books in the Mission:Six series!

Army veteran Reese Brantley was psyched to be heading into her first big job as a bodyguard with this trip to Africa, but when a hunting expedition turns into a kidnapping by a rebel faction, she finds herself and her client in big trouble!

Navy SEAL Dalton "Diesel" Landon's team is being sent in to rescue Reese and her client, but it doesn't take him long to realize that she is pretty good at handling her own. When the two of them get separated from his team, they have to fight the terrain and the evil that lurks among the wild in order to find their way back to civilization ... and along the way, attraction just might get the better of them!

Reese is former Army, now running her own bodyguard business. Her first job is to be the personal bodyguard for the son of a high ranking US Cabinet member, looking to meet with the president of a war torn country in Africa. She and her client are kidnapped and, she now believes that she will never be hired again until a group of Navy SEALS rescues them. Diesel rescues her, since her client takes off and, is grabbed by the other SEALS before she can reach him. Reese and Diesel end up hiking through the jungle for days until they finally find a town where they are picked up by the other SEALS. Problem is that more trouble is coming and, the relationship that is firing up between Reese and Diesel is hotter than the African Jungle. The constant stress and anxiety are bad enough but, add that to the emotions twining between the two and, you have a fast-paced, smoldering story!

The slam bang first installment of the Mission Six series. Reese is a survivor, now working as a bodyguard for the son of an influential politician. She and her charge are kidnapped by a rebel leader in Zambia, pulling them over the border into the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Rescued by Diesel and his SEAL team, they are in danger almost from the moment of their rescue. Diesel remains with the pair, splitting from his team. He and Reese give in to the attraction between them, until trouble comes again. Luckily, the team has also found them, even though they are officially nowhere near their actual location. The team finds their way to rescuing Reese and her charge, even after a faction disrupts an important conference in the capital. Lots of action here, with a happier ending than one might expect.

Reese has a history in the Army, as a MMA fighter and has now decided to put her skills as a bodyguard to use and is looking at opening a security business. Her first assignment is the Secretary of Defense’s son on his trip to the Congo until they end up being taken by rebels.

Diesel is part of the SEAL team that was sent to rescue Reese and her client but things go sideways and Reese and Diesel end up separated from the rest of the team. They must work together to escape the threats of not only the jungle but the rebels as well especially when their journey is complicated by the feelings that they develop for each other.

Their journey is filled with suspense, twists, action and romance. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

One Intrepid SEAL is a phenomenal romantic suspense by Elle James. Ms. James has provided readers with a well-written book that is non-stop action. The characters in this book are spectacular and perfect for this story. Reese is a bodyguard and her current client lands them in a heap of trouble. Diesel is a Navy SEAL and his mission is to get Reese and her client to safety. Reese and Diesel's story is packed with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and look forward to my next book by Elle James. One Intrepid SEAL is book 1 of the Mission: Six Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I read a print copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Reese got into trouble on her first bodyguard assignment in Africa and she needed to get rescued by SEALS. Way to start out her new business. She's tough, loyal and brave, oh, and she can kick your ass. She helps Diesel when he needs it and keeps up with him in the jungle. Gorilla's, trees, political formal party, hostage taking, saving innocent people, helping others. This book has it all and what great heroes they are Reese and Diesel.
