Emily Holden has always been bound by one truth, and no matter how many times she wishes things were different, she knows they never can be together. She knew her love for Brendon Fletcher would never be returned. He’s an alpha wolf and she’s just a human girl he had barely even notices. One chance encounter sends her blood racing and makes her wish she could belong to him. Now it’s everything she can do to remember that she isn’t the girl who gets the prince and needs to walk away.
Brendon seems to have other ideas and he isn’t taking no for an answer. Now he’s showing up wherever she is and acting dominate like it’s his right, and she’s too weak to resist him. Will she find the love she’s always wished for in his arms, or will everything fall apart when a sinister force threatens the happiness they are trying to create.
This is a must read. Great start to a new series. Characters were very relatable. There were some grammatical errors. But not so bad it took away from the enjoyment of reading this book. Can't wait to see whose story is next.
Emily went through a complete personally change after being turned. She went from a quiet person to bossing people around. I would say it's an alpha thing, but later in the book she's told that it didn't change who she was. I built zero connection with any information the characters. An attempt was made with Emily, but it is absent with Brendon.
I also have to mention the editing/proofreading. The sample was fine, but the rest of the book was filled with run-on sentences that disrupted the reading for me. I would recommend this book but I also wouldn't discourage anyone from reading it. It just didn't hold anything great for me.
First off, it's surprising to me how often authors don't proof before publishing. There are many grammatical errors and word issues as well as duplication of sentences. It detracts from the work and undermines the credibility of the author. You're putting your work out there for the world to see. Take enough pride in it to run through it or have a friend do it. Other than the stated issues, the writing style is a bit simplistic with no real depth. There are avenues created that could have been explored in order to give the story a more rounded feel but were instead left open ended. The overall story was a classic one. The classics remain through time for a reason; they work. With a bit more time and love this could be a great book, but as it stands, it leaves much to be desired.
I usually only take the time to write a review if the book is very good or very bad. I like the writer’s story, but Brandon is not a good character. He is a spoiled boy who pretended to be an alpha. He is also sounds condescending when he calls Emily little girl or princess. He’s a complete tool. It’s one thing to be dominant and demanded as an alpha, but it is another when he just is acting like a brat when anyone tells him he is wrong. He is the most annoying alpha character ever and he never gets better. I would say read the book for yourself, but just know you will be grinding your teeth every time he opens his stupid mouth. Brandon is not an alpha; he’s a frat boy who gets mad when he doesn’t get his way.
I’m giving it 2 stars for the romance and taking three stars away for all the rest. Even the romance was rushed and weird and I hate when miscommunication is the main plotpoint of a book. But then, right as the romance sets in, there’s actually a subplot that was’t explain in the beginning of the book at all? Foreshadowing is key for me to care that there are wolves that are dying and that the h is being kidnapped or whatever. I can’t even remember if I finished the book..
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Filled with finding love, claiming it, suspense, and more love. ***Warring*** Use of Language is really bad! Not for those who are unwilling to overlook wording.
The story was decent but honestly dragged on for too long. My biggest issue was grammar issues and typos. The word is dominant NOT dominate. That drove me insane reading this book. Using words like purposing instead of proposing. This book needs an editor. Overall, it was simple but okay.
I enjoyed the story and plot just fine, but this book needs some serious editing. Using dominate for dominant when describing a wolf, spelling flour for cooking flower. Not to mention the run on sentences. Clean it up, please.
Shifter story of Emily and Brendon. Emily has loved alpha Brendon her whole life, but she is human and knows he will someday find his mate so there's no hope. All that changes one day, and now Brendon is everywhere.
This is a solid shifter book, it has all the typical stuff in an alpha /human book.
