C.C. Jameson is a Canadian author, ex-military officer, and citizen of the world. After leading a nomadic lifestyle for years, she had to stop her wanderlust ways due to the pandemic. She now lives somewhere along the west coast of Canada. Spending time on or near the ocean, learning new languages, and writing fiction are some of C.C.'s favorite activities.
C.C. Jameson is not the author’s real name but a pen name inspired by her favorite drink. C.C. enjoys her whiskey and always has a bottle of Jameson nearby. The C.C. part corresponds to the author's real first initial, but doubled because it sounded better. Plus, that's what many people call Canadian Club.
Did you know that whiskey is spelled with an “e” when its country of origin has an “e” in it? Ireland has an “e” so it’s Irish whiskey. The same rule gives us Japanese whisky, Canadian whisky, Scotch whisky, but American whiskey.
Interesting fact, eh?

I enjoyed this book. The fact that Kate‘s life is fleshed out in her job, her marriage, her family and her past makes it so engaging. Her experiences at work and home with bullying brings to the forefront how abuse can be experienced by many of us. This being part of the authors purpose according to the notes. I do hope if any reader is experiencing similar abuse that they will reach out and get help.
The story is engaging and interesting. The mystery of the animal deaths will wrench the heart of animal lovers and give much satisfaction when the culprit is caught.
C C Jameson, ‘The Last Lies’ (Kate Murphy Mystery, book 1)
As an ARC reader I received a free copy and promised an honest review. Here it is. English isn’t my first language. Sorry for errors.
Rating: 4,5 stars (of 5).
In general: Original crime story.
Main characters: - Kate Murphy. About 33 years old, married to Matt for some years. She’s a female officer in the Roxbury PD, Boston, with the ambition to become a detective. - Uncle Kenny Murphy. When Kate was 13 years old her parents and her little brother were brutally killed. Kenny and his wife Lucy adopted Kate and they did what they could to give her a loving youth. When Kate was 23 years old her aunt Lucy died of cancer. Now Kate helps her old uncle as much as possible.
The Boston police department is a man’s world. So an ambitious Kate is frowned upon by many male colleagues and she has to deal with some harassment during her work. In addition she has problems with her husband Matt, who wants a devoted wife, producing children and living at home. Before their marriage Kate already made clear to him that she had other ambitions, but Matt believes that - now they are married - she has to do what he wants. During a routine surveillance Kate gets involved in the killing of some animals. She takes the case serious and is laughed at by her boss and many male colleagues. But after a while it appears that a serial animal killer is terrorizing Boston.
The author C.C. Jameson then describes how the investigation in the killings develops. In the meantime Kate’s private problems escalate. And after some action scenes, the sketching of a few credible extra characters and the exciting private investigations of a tenacious, talented Kate the serial animal killer is arrested and Kate’s marriage situation has become clear. For me it was a pleasure to read this introduction into the Kate Murphy Mystery series.

Received this book free via bookfunnel. A compulsive read from this new and talented Author. Really enjoyed the story line and characters. The author writes the story of Kate who is a police officer who wants to become a detective. Her ability to get involved solving crimes is really well done. Really well written story and suspenseful to the end. Warning: Miscarriage, animal deaths Looking for more books from author C.C.Jameson
I have read all three in this series - and enjoyed the second and third books far more than the first. I felt the author hadn't quite got into her stride. I struggled to believe that an ambitious and intelligent, albeit flawed, woman would allow her husband to treat her as he does, that she would not check on the joint account for the planned home. Having said that, it was a not unenjoyable read with some interesting observations and insights. The writing and conflict much improved in book two, so much so I looked forward to book three. I was fortunate to read this series in return for honest reviews.
I didn’t like the book at all. I didn’t care about Kate, I thought she was a very boring police officer and her job details were so boring too. She didn’t do anything exciting. The only excitement I got while she was doing her job was her running after a suspect....boring.
Her husband’s name was Matt but was also called Max once. I guessed right what he was up to and his attitude was from the 1950s.
I didn’t like this author’s writing style, the story didn’t seem to flow and I found myself getting bored. I skimmed the last few chapters as I just couldn’t be bothered to read them. This author or series is not for me.
I loved it. An action packed story about new rookie, Kate Murphy, as she fights the other officers for her place on the force and as she finds out what her husband is up to.
Canadian author. I thought she was so real! I KNOW I'll gobble these down quickly. I deliberately didn't read the excerpt for the next in series or I'll end up having to stay up all night to read it. Would I ever die to meet this author!! 🤔
I received this book through the author in exchange for an honest review. Here it is 2:30 a.m. On a Sunday morning and inspiring tears from my eyes so I can write my review! Love Kate, her uncle and hated Bowers and her husband. Her husband is a real creep! Bowers is the token was she works with that delights in harassing her. I enjoyed the fast pace of the book, the story flows and the characters are so well developed you have a love/hate relationship with them. Really enjoying her style! Starting book two after a few hours sleep! Bravo!
Nothing makes life suck more is knowing you are the only one in a relationship that is trying to make it work . Kate Murphy , thinking she is the one dropping the ball , finds out some things are not as they seem at home and the hazing activity from a veteran officer is not helping . Kate has tried to better herself at work and the test shows it , she just needs the experience . Juggling a police officers life and a marriage is a hard task and often one suffers more than the other. Tune in to see if she can keep either one from exploding .
I like it! It took a bit to acclimate to the story-telling-style, but the story itself was good. I wish there had been a few more editing choices: a little more backstory with the uncle/adoptive father; more about the husband, too, instead of the few 'bad' things we learn. However, the small drips about him (husband) accumulated and we were clearly able to see his control ~ but did he switch out her birth control pills? Or didn't he? Overall, a decent book. It missed the 'magic' mark so it didn't get 5 stars, but it certainly wasn't a bad book!
I enjoyed this book very much. It is a down to earth story about Kate, a cop, and Matt her husband. They have a very rocky marriage and it's getting worse. Kate gets crap from a coworker and her husband. She is living paycheck to paycheck and trying to help her uncle financially. She is investigating a series of animal deaths that are increasing daily. Something has to give and it might be Kate. I am looking forward to read more of this series.
An excellent story of a detective (Kate Murphy) who encounters many emotions and difficulties at home and on the job. Kate is a strong female character who is very likeable and deserves to be treated with respect. The story has a great storyline with strong characters and plenty of action and suspense. A very quick read that I highly recommend. The Last Hope is the next book on my list to read.
She is working in a man world as a detective in the police. She is hoping to put her past behind her when she marries. Nothing can be further from the truth. Animals are being killed and life gets very complicated. Can she find out what is going on? Can she stop it? How will she feels when it is finally over? See if she solves it
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A good introduction to the Kate Murphy Mystery books. This novella jumps from her marital problems to her difficulties at work, to the mysterious and increasing deaths of several animals. It could have used more details in some area, but all in all, a good, quick read. I am looking forward to reading more in this series.
This book tells the story of the beginning of the Kate Murphy Mysteries. It is written with underlying themes that are so common. The mystery is full of the background that makes the next books even full of more depth. This book has great characters! So much so I read it all into the wee hours of the morning. A must read series for all mystery lovers!!
In this the first book in the series, we meet Kate Murphy an officer in the Boston PD hoping to become a detective. Following the murder of her parents and baby brother, she is raised by her aunt and uncle. She is married to the abusive Matt, handsome but not caring, and who wants his wife pregnant and home not out fighting crime in the Boston area. She relies on her uncle for some of the emotional support lacking in her marriage.
As with most of the female protagonists we read in novels currently, when all else fails she runs or in her case, jogs. While out jogging one night, she is attacked and ends up in hospital.
While this is going on in her personal life, she is working on becoming a detective all the while having to contend with male officers who don't make fitting in easy for her. This may be because she has little empathy or sympathy for others and doesn't really try to fit in.
And then there is a spate of animal killings in the area that the mayor insists is investigated. One day. off duty, she is in a park and discovers the killer.
The book dwells much on Kate, her horrible childhood, her abusive husband, her constant mistrust of others and her desire to be promoted from patrol to detective. It took a while to even like this woman but I began to warm to her particularly when I found she was pregnant and what had led to that way of being. As I read more I was keen to read the second book.
Move over, Rizzoli & Isles, there's a new badass female cop in town! The Last Lies by CC Jameson is a fun, fast read that is perfect for readers who love police procedurals/detective fiction that feature strong female protagonists that aren't afraid to kick ass and get things done (think: Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum or Kathy Reichs's Temperance Brennan). It's also not exceptionally gory or explicit, so readers who are turned off by that kind of content shouldn't take issue with this series. I loved that Kate Murphy was so driven and didn't take crap in her personal or professional life, yet Jameson also gave her enough depth and struggles that she felt like a real person with baggage and issues rather than a fictional saint that no one could relate too. I also like that this intro to the series had a lot more depth than I think you find in most standard procedurals, as it included not just a main criminal mystery, but a domestic storyline that really felt meaningful and will give many readers plenty to think about. Not to mention the intriguing backstory for Kate that is set up as well... I can't wait to see how Jameson tackles that in future books & I'm also really looking forward to reading about Kate's future cases as well!
I got a copy of this e-book elsewhere and finished it yesterday the 26th of April 2018.
Apart from the romantic aspects of the story, the mystery seemed to be original and could possibly happen in a city like Boston. The heroine -Kate- is much better at deductive reasoning (which she uses to protect the city she loves {Boston}) than she is at seeing her “husband” for the 2-bit piece of manure that he is. I thought that I d heard almost all the excuses that a cheating husband would use. I was wrong, but I still find it hard to believe that some women would think that they did something to deserve that trash.
Thankfully, it s just a story and all that Kate lost was money (can be replaced), and some excess baggage (controlling, abusive, crappy husband).
What man would let someone/anyone beat up their lady then act like it s the lady s fault because she has a career instead of being a baby making machine i.e.: bare foot and pregnant.
I look forward to reading the rest of the series. I think this might make up for losing the * Rizzoli and Isles * series, both the books as well as the television show.
{22 June 2018, FYI: I just found out that Amazon pulled my review of Last Lies because it s now politically incorrect to be biased against abusive spouses. I ve reached this decision because I personally believe that people who would abuse their spouses should be taken away from others —permanently and not in a jail cell}!

Kate Murphy, A hardworking policewoman with aspirations of being promoted to detective. A husband who thinks women are only good for making babies and running the house. He constantly is very disrespectful to Kate and the marriage is rocky. How can this marriage last; or will it? Kate discovers she is pregnant and it certainly wasn’t in her plans; how and why did this happen?
Animals are showing up dead with no explanation or suspect in custody. Who is doing this, and how far will they go to avoid deduction. She suspects her husband of cheating, but how can one know for sure.
As if things can’t get any worse, Kate is attacked while jogging and ends up in the hospital. A little R&R while healing gives her the opportunity to confirm the changes she needs to make for herself. Stumbling right into the animal killer while still off duty and not healed turns out to be a painful experience.
Excellent book! C.C.Jameson captures what it's like to be a female in a predominately male profession. Kate Murphy is trying desperately to become a detective. While coping with harrassment from some fellow patrol officers at her precinct, she goes home to a disintegrating marriage. All while trying to solve a mystery that is close to alot of people's hearts. While the subject matter may seem like everyday occurences, Mr. Jameson has made the characters so real that they could be your neighbor, your friend or even yourself. Kate is so real that you want to pick up the phone to console her. And that is what creates great writing.. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I finished this book in one sitting.
‘The Last Lies’ by C.C. Jameson is a can’t put it down goodread. In the beginning, I didn’t like main character, Kate Murphy. Her husband was hateful and non caring, but she was just too naive to think he could be unfaithful and deceitful. She was trying to make it in a man’s world as a police officer with aspirations of making detective, but she was failing at that. It was maddening how she put up with so much abuse at work and at home. Great reading begins when she takes charge of her life. I look forward to reading more about her in book 2, to see if she has what it takes to make a good detective.
Received this book free via bookfunnel only yesterday and never heard of this author before but so glad l did. Fast paced and gripping from the very first page. Kate is a female police officer in Boston BPD and working twice as hard to prove that she's a good, if not better than her male counterparts, she loves her job and joined the police to help and protect the public and follows the rules by the book, this makes her unpopular with her veteran male officers and becomes a easy target for bullying, but it's not just in work it's a home with her husband who isn't as prefect as she first thought when she married him. Looking forward to reading more from the author.
As a female officer on patrol, Kate Murphy finds herself constantly running up against misogyny. An investigation into the death of many animals staggered around Boston allows Kate to use her street smarts to close a case that baffled others on the force.
Though there were times when I really wanted to give Kate a reality check, she was a sympathetic main character. I wondered, too, about an urban precinct in these modern times that employs only two female officers, one of whom is a desk clerk. Those issues aside, I tore through this story in a late-night marathon because I had become so involved. I'd happily read another Kate Murphy Mystery.
Kate is smart. Smart enough to ace her Detective exam. Why then did she let her lying, cheating, controlling husband disrespect her so badly? Can she continue in a man's world? Is her determination strong enough? Will they catch whoever is bating the animals before a child is poisoned? I have never disliked a character as quickly as I did Kate's husband. He is lower than a snake's belly with no redeeming qualities. It still makes me angry just thinking of the things he said and did. I hope he goes to jail.

"From the very first page, I want to say that this story moved me deeply. It is a narrative that simply stays etched in your memory. The tension in every single chapter left me truly speechless." "The mental and psychological abuse the main character endured is something that just tears you up inside. Furthermore, the death of the animals at the hands of a killer—because I must call anyone who does that an assassin—is a harrowing and deeply sad topic." "This is the first book I have read by C.C. Jameson, and truthfully, I am extremely pleased. I give this story a well-deserved 5 stars. The ending left me feeling satisfied, yet with a genuine desire to read more from this author."
While I enjoyed CC Jamesons other book the Last Amen this novel seemed nearly laughable in its storyline. Katie Murphy is trapped in a controlling marriage, broke and suffering from her own traumatic history when a spree of animal killings strikes Boston. From a dead cat sparking a call to 911 to a charity race resulting in news coverage of the death of its canine participants this novel just seemed off the rails. Katie Murphy of course solved the case in a very Hallmark Murders and Mysteries ending...
Excellent straight up crime mystery. I like that the author brought in the idea of emotional abuse and psychological abuse, between the constant bullying at work to the way her spouse tried to place her in a typical woman role in the household.
While dealing with person stuff she still manages to investigate a local crime that involves the killing of random animals. The story shows her strength to carry on despite the lack of support at work and at home, yet she sticks her heart and is determined to keep solving crime all to make the world better in her one special way.

At times neither home, work or the streets are fair. The streets aren't safe anymore it seems even in books. From breaking the law, traffic stops, killing of animals, being constantly pranked by a vindictive officer and being beaten so horribly you end up in the hospital for weeks. Life isn't always fair and when you are married to a manipulative, unfaithful man, life can be even harder. This was a fun, enjoyable fast book to read and I'm glad to have received it. I will be looking for more of C.C. Jameson books to read.
This is a story about a woman who is a survivor. She has no intention of being a victim and so she pursues her dream. Things don’t go to plan in her personal life and she meets resistance in her professional life. She’s a tough and is used to surviving. This is a great story, well presented, a bit rushed at times but a great read! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
