Mia Allerton is in need of a husband—for her sister. After her father’s imprisonment for theft of a duchess’s jewels, Mia and her aunt set out to marry off Mia’s younger sister before their disgrace ruins Angeline’s chances of making a good match—and they run out of money. They plan to sell the estate, send Mia's two younger brothers to university, then live quietly in the country. When a rich gentleman purchases the neighboring property, Mia’s aunt tosses their plans to the wind and decides he is the answer to their troubles. All Mia must do is seduce him. Magnus Forbes intends to live a quiet life far from the scandals that embroil his father and brother. Sir Stirling James mediates a deal to purchase land north of Inverness where Magnus can live as a well-to-do rancher and not as Lord Magnus, second son to the infamous Duke of Ballanton and his reprobate heir. Too late, Magnus learns that his beautiful golden-haired neighbor is daughter to Viscount Culross, a rake of the first order who puts his family’s scandals to shame and is currently in prison for theft. To avoid scandal himself, all Magnus must do is resist Lady Mia’s scandalous seduction. I purchased this as a 5 book bundle this author offered called THE MARRIAGE MAKER COLLECTION VOLUME TWO.
I also, purchased Volume One bundle and was disappointed in the first book of that collection called Redemption of a Marquess. Brazen is the first book in Volume Two and I loved it.
The character's made me laugh and I enjoyed the banter and how they met thanks to a pig. That wasn't the only part in the story, there were many that endeared this couple to me. They both were likable, had family that made them have regrets, and were kind and caring.
Even though this is part of a huge series, it can be a stand alone easily.
We have some bad villains, but also some great caring secondary character's. There is lovemaking, outside of marriage and heat level maybe 3 out of 5. Because I felt a connection to this couple, it was filled with love and passion.
We have no cheating, no cliffhanger, we do get HEA, some romance and laughter. I can't improve on the blurb, just recommending this story. (ljb)
Disappointing on several levels, few good passages at end
First, plot vastly differs from book blurb. The madcap scenes, painfully unfunny. Then editing+editing+editing. Ugh. Bizarrely, at the end of story character dialogue greatly improves. And author writes a wickedly good sensual scene. Overall still disappointed, 2.0 stars.
• Book varies greatly from its description. Mia resisits, not suggests, idea to pursue neighbor. Magnus buys estate on his father's suggestion. His feelings about Mia's disgraced father-not same. Even names, titles of families changed. • Story is filled with banter & madcap mayhem. Sadly most of mayhem was awkward rather than humorous. I cringed when reading some parts.+editing, editing, editing
This was a great buy for $.99. You can never go wrong with a novel by her. This Marriage Maker is a great find & I'm glad they keep on using Sir Stirling the actual matchmaker. The humor in The series is great along with all the characters. Enjoy.
Mia doesn't think she's as pretty as her sister! So she is promoting her sister to Magnus as he couldn't possibly be interested in her? A fall down the hill, a belligerent pig, and a scandal make for a humorous and delightful tale best one yet!
