Well... I can't say this book was any better than the first one in the series.
I guess the first thing I need to say is, and this is a series killer for me, the main character ISN'T the main character. Chicky poo doesn't solve anything. All she does is stand around, cry a LOT, play stupid (or is she REALLY that dumb), do what other people tell her, naively fall for stupid things, and has ZERO sense of danger (does she even have a gut instinct when things aren't quite right?). As I said, this isn't HER story, it's Chas's. But I guess having a man as the main character of a cozy mystery breaks some unwritten rule or something, especially when he's a cop.
If you want to write a cozy mystery, there still needs to be some sleuthing involved. Sure, it's not going to follow the typical traditional mystery format, and lots of things are going to be glossed over, because cozy's focus more on the characters rather than the mystery, but still. You can't have your 'amateur detective' just stand there and let shit happen to them (and DEFINITELY not because they're too stupid to recognize danger when it's LITERALLY smacking them in the face) and then claim that they did ANYTHING at all to help solve the case.
Why am I still reading this series? Because I can blow through them in about 2 hours and it's an easy book to get one more tick closer to completing my 2018 reading challenge. Let's also not forget I like to bitch about bad books, and the best way to bitch about bad books is to read bad books... Yes, I'm a masochist.

This adventure had Missy, closely followed by Chas going out to Vegas. Missy had been invited to a baking competition and was disappointed that her old nemesis from high school was one of the judges. After Missy had lunch with her and the woman was murdered, the Vegas police of course thought that Missy was their culprit. That was when Chas came out to discreetly poke around and see what he could find out about the people involved in the deceased's life. The killer has their sights set on Missy and maybe Chas too, and it's up to both her and Chas to figure out what's going on before they both end up dead.
This time I did actually guess who was in on it, but it was interesting to see the reasoning behind it. I loved how Chas had volunteered to watch Missy's dog Toffee and would report back to her, but it was even sweeter how he flew out to Vegas when the police were suspecting her of killing the contest judge.

Missy is nervous but excited to fly to Las Vegas to compete in a baking competition. She's sure her Vegan Coco-Loco cupcake will wow the judges in the first round. However, Missy is dismayed to discover one of the judges is her old nemesis, Marta Cambridge. Missy is surprised when Marta asks her to lunch and seems to want to help Missy but when the reason for Marta's generosity becomes clear, Missy is upset. Marta wants to fix the competition in favor of Missy if Missy will allow her sweet little bakery to be a part of Marta's national chain. No thank you! The next thing Missy knows, a nasty detective is bullying her into answering questions. What's going on? Missy soon discovers Marta has been murdered and she's the prime suspect! She calls her friend Detective Beckett back home and together they try to solve the mystery before Missy is arrested for a crime she didn't commit.
This was so painful to read. The mystery is fairly standard to begin with. There are only two other contestants and no judges appearing in the story to flesh out this competition. Not one person seems to know or mourn Marta, who was a nasty, mean girl type. Missy is so insanely naïve. I don't understand why she didn't get a lawyer. She's too Mary-Sueish for me. Detective Beckett is a saint compared to the LVPD. Apparently, the LVPD aren't competent enough to solve a murder. I find that incredibly hard to believe. They keep trying to pin it on Missy with no actual evidence yet Beckett digs and finds all kinds of evidence against Missy being the murderer. I just don't believe that in a city like Vegas, the police can't solve a murder. Maybe in Missy's hometown of LaChance, Louisiana they would make mistakes but in Vegas?!
Besides Missy, the other competitors include Melody Vellman and Andrew Benson. Melody seems anxious and insecure while Drew is the opposite. He's confident, cocky and a bit flirtatious. Naturally Beckett hates him. The only real suspect is Marta's assistant, Taylor Whitcombe. Whodunit was a big shock to everyone, including me.
I don't think I'll be reading any more of these books. If I do, it will be because I need something short and easy to read.

A PINCH OF MURDER is the second book in the newly revised and re-released Frosted Love Cozy Mystery series by Summer Prescott. The protagonist, Missy Gladstone, is a cupcake bakery owner and is heading to Las Vegas for a national bake-off contest. Missy is a sweet, kind woman who has poured her life into her bakery. You can’t help but like her and cheer her accomplishments, despite how her long-ago nemesis makes her feel about her talents when Missy runs into her in Vegas. When she’s accused of murdering her nemesis and the police seem determined to pin the crime on her, Missy reaches out to Detective Chas Beckett from her hometown. He quickly rushes to town to help Missy out and I enjoyed their budding friendship and the reader hopes that perhaps romance will blossom between the two.
The plot flowed with enough suspects to keep me interested and the threads of the clues were wrapped up at the exciting conclusion. This is a quick read and while it is not a complex story, it’s entertaining with room for the characters to grow and develop in future installments. The author has included a recipe for Casino Caramel Royale Cupcakes at the back of the book.

This story was told slightly better than the first one with more details and a little more color to the characters. Still, it was lacking something like the middle of the story where information is found. The lead character, Missy, doesn't really have much to do except get caught by the suspect and wait for rescue. The facts leading to catching the suspect are not developed in the story by told all at once at the end as a wrap up - set up, murder, detective shows up, Missy is caught, detective wraps up the case and explains it. So far the first two stories have followed this path and both have been a neat and petite novel, but not a compelling one. I have a few more but I may save them for a time I want a quick and uncomplicated story. It is a bit like a 30 minute cop show with the neat wrap up explaining how the information came about. Still, some things are overlooked like how they found the remote cabin - who did it belong to?, what made them look for Missy there?, etc. This leaves you feeling like you skipped some chapters.

This is another enjoyable book in the Frosted Love series. Missy is off to Las Vegas for a culinary competition. Unfortunately, she soon finds herself wrapped up with finding another murderer. This book quickly grabbed my attention and had me turning the pages until I finished, including a few surprises. I like these characters and look forward to reading more!

Missy says this about her “nemeses” Marta Cambridge when investigators ask about her: She always seemed to be pretty pretentious to me, the kind of person who would smile to your face and sneer behind your back, but I really can’t say for certain.”
Melissa Gladstone aka Missy is in Las Vegas for a bakers competition and within only hours and shortly after Missy is out to eat with Marta, detectives are questioning her about her whereabouts. We discover pretty quickly that Marta has been murdered and Missy is the detectives number one suspect. Missy is so shaken up she calls Detective Chas Beckett - a handsome man in her hometown that she has recently been seeing and taking a liking to - because he’s got experience with the law. He actually flies out to Vegas to assist Missy in finding the actual killer. The two are at dinner and this is said about a Golden Retriever named Toffee:
“You know, your face just lights up so beautifully when you talk about that furry girl,” Chas observed, gazing at her with naked appreciation. Missy blushed from the base of her neck to the tips of her ears at his compliment.
It is obvious how much Toffee means to Missy and that shows in every book, so far, as I’m sure it’ll show in the next 30 reads. Do you know what else is obvious? Although Missy is completely aware of the fact Chas is “married” to his job and told her he is uninterested in a relationship with a woman, we can see that he is slowly coming to like her as more than just a friend and Missy is starting to feel the same way.
Chas begins his own investigation into who killed Marta and tries to keep Missy safe at the same time.
Bad things happen to both Missy and Chas by the killer and Chas winds up being found on the floor of his hotel room in a pool of blood….
Next is book 3 of 32 - Half Baked Murder.
As it is in each book, a recipe for a scrumptious dessert is included and an authors note of Prescott’s new Cozy mysteries writing journey.

This may seem weird but... Yay a series that takes the heroine out of their town. One of the issues that I have with a lot if mystery book was addresses in this book but I'm sure we'll go back to normal in the next book. I do like seeing the characters traveling, which I know would be hard when you own a store.
Chas was redeemed in this book. I didn't like him in the last book, but as he did come to Las Vegas to help her, he's been redeemed a bit. He was awfully sweet to Missy in this book.
How Missy has accidently gotten herself mixed up in a murder again is quite comical. She has done nothing wrong past being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Though I had a suspicion of who the murderer was, it was subtle.

Competition and jealousy
A good read. Possibly not as good as the first. The ending felt "off", almost rushed. Being asked to take part in a baking competition sounds great until she discovers that her old arch nemesis from high school is the main judge. Then when her nemesis tries to force her to sell her business, she knows that she was right for being worried. Things get worse when she is questioned about the woman's death. How will she get out of this? It is with great relief that she greets Chas's arrival. But who is responsible? Break-in, attacks and finally kidnapping are all mixed into a good plot. My one criticism is that the ending is very similar to book 1!

Marta hasn't changed and tells Missy that she will be thrown out of the competition unless she agrees to become a franchisee of her national chain.
It goes without saying that Marta is brown bread (dead) shortly afterwards.
And the main suspect is … Missy!
Well it stands to reason, she's always the suspect - the woman's a death magnet.
It's short, has a halfway decent plot, but the authors seem to have zero interest in anything other than pumping out hack work.

I liked this better than the first one. Missy has headed to Las Vegas for a competition. One night later, she is a suspect in the murder of Marta Cambridge, an old home-town rival and a judge in the competition. Missy calls up Chas for support and he flies to LV to help her. Awwwwwe. :-D These two are so cute.

This is a re-release with some touch ups and minor additions.
Missy heads to an out of town baking competition only to discover that her high school nemisis is one of the judges. During an uncomfortable lunch Missy realizes that the underlying reason she’s there, is so Marta can try to franchise her shop. Pure Love!
I loved this book! It's refreshing to read this series again. And while I enjoyed this book the first time this time I loved it. This story was written with pure love....love for the characters, love for the readers, and love for the craft. And, I'm using the recipe to bake some cupcakes!!

Melissa is amazing.
This second book is such a thrill ride. Her unkind competition is still the same person. Privileged, authoritarian and just plain obnoxious. Then she gets killed. Now comes the insanity of how, who, why, and then Melissa’s life is in peril. Her neighbor and friend policeman comes to help and it gets crazier. A must read.

A simple baking competition what could possibly go wrong, well one of the judges is your old high school nemesis who gets murdered, you're the main suspect and there are lots of strange things going on. Your detective friend flies out to help you out and that's when things get interesting. Lots of suspense and surprises but in the end the murderer is found. Great read.

I liked this better than the first one in the series. The POV changes made sense and wasn’t awkward like book one was. It just made for a more logical story/mystery. I liked the mystery, though a simple one it was a good one. I was highly invested because Melissa was the suspect. I liked that this was set in Vegas. It was just overall a good time.

So Missy ends up in Vegas at a baking competition, only to get involved in murder before it even starts. Her detective friend heads into town to help her out and catch a murderer. I thought the story was well written and easy to read.

A great second book in the series! The mystery was well-written and I love the direction the two main characters are going in. I will say with this book I had more than a sneaking suspicion as to who killed Marta, but enjoyed the story tremendously nonetheless.

Very cute short read. If you are a fan of quick cozy murder mystery reads you will love this series. The author doesn't drag anything out just gets to the point. The characters are relatable and make the story.

It’s Cozy Mystery, so what can one expect.
I like reading short books between longer ones and this one fit the bill. All Cozy books tend to be light reading, and to that, this one didn’t disappoint.

A Pinch of Murder
This was exciting. I had no idea whodunit and was surprised at the end of the book. Thank you for an enjoyable series.
This was exciting. I had no idea whodunit and was surprised at the end of the book. Thank you for an enjoyable series.

This is the second book in the Frosted Love Mystery series by Carol Durand and Summer Prescott. Melissa Gladstone (Missy), owns Missy's Muffins and More, a family muffin and cupcake shop in Louisiana. Missy is invited to participate in a National Cupcake competition in Las Vegas with hopes of winning $50,000 which would allow her to greatly expand her bakery business. A well-known celebrity chef and entrepreneur, Marta Cambridge, is one of the judges who has a long standing rivalry with Missy. Before the competition starts, Marta Cambridge is found dead and Missy quickly becomes the prime suspect. After intensive questioning by detectives from the LVPD Chas Bennett, the handsome detective from the first book in the series, comes to Las Vegas to protect and rescue Missy. Chad and Missy work together to prove her innocence, but in short order, Chad wind up in trouble himself. This novella is a great quick read for an afternoon and keeps you captivated until the end. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery and, of course, baked goods.
The characters are likeable with marked room for further development. The elements of a clean, cozy mystery are included; rivalry, food, a hint of romance and inclusion of a few recipes. I like this short cozy, a novella in length. It’s is perfect for a nice afternoon or evening read. This book would also be ideal for a teen or young adult reader that is interested in the cozy mystery genre. Overall, a good book with the potential to transition from a novella to a full length cozy mystery with enhanced character and plot development. I look forward to reading additional books in the series as the reader is left wanting more.
