The Firefighter's Twins by Heidi McCahan is a sweet Christian contemporary romance with strong themes grounded in God.
We all need to trust God in the good and the bad times. Too often we try to make it through life, being self sufficient or making decisions based on our fears. We can trust God at all times and in all situations. "You have to trust that God will provide, even if His provision doesn't look like you think it should."
The novel is community minded. "Incredible things happen when people pull together." A community works together to bless the family of a veteran. "Our congregation always pulls together when there's a need." This is the church functioning as Jesus intended.
Focusing our lives on grief and guilt is never a good idea. These are heavy burdens that we are not meant to carry. The past is an awful taskmaster. We need to give our guilt and our grief to God in order to move on into a brighter future.
The two year old twins are a delightful handful that will bring a smile to the reader's face.
The Firefighter's Twins is a fun filled and light hearted read with some serious themes. It's a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and I can highly recommend it.

The Firefighter’s Twins was a sweet romance in a great setting. I really liked Shay and Natalie. They had both been through some rough things in the recent past.

It was interesting to watch these two begin to navigate their feelings for each other. Both characters had the inclination to try to control things, whether it was Shay worrying over his son’s food allergy or Natalie being unwilling to accept help from her sisters with the management of the family farm.

Both characters experienced a good bit of growth throughout this enjoyable story.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

The Firefighter's Twins was a cute romance. I liked the characters and loved how the hero was a firefighter. I felt bad for Shay and how his wife left him - she sounded like a terrible and selfish woman to leave not only her husband, but also their twins. Ugh!

All in all, a great read!

4.5 Stars!

I stopped reading Harlequin inspired romances a few years ago because I couldn’t seem to find any that had a lot of depth to them or they just seemed too rushed for me. Lately though, I have found some really great authors in these lines! (I’m talking to you Jill Lynn, dana mentink, Ruth Logan Herne, Jan Drexel and Heidi McCahan 😉) Even though they are shorter books, with the right author, you can find stories that have depth and don’t feel too rushed.

The second Shay walked on to the pages of this book I was hooked! He is a single dad who sometimes gets a little overprotective of his 2 year old twin sons, but once you find out the reasons why, you totally understand.

I really liked Natalie too. She is trying to get over the death of her boyfriend and is running her family’s destination farm while hoping her perfect dream job comes through. There is an immediate attraction between Shay and Natalie, but they have a lot of issues to work through. There were a few scenes in this book where my heart was racing and I was wondering how Heidi was going to make things work out. But, by the last scene, which I absolutely loved, I was breathing a sigh of happy relief!

This is a well written book with a heartfelt story line. The author does a great job developing the characters and weaving a clean romance about faith, hope, forgiveness and love. Both Shay and Natalie are struggling with life's problems. Shay has his hands full raising his twin infant sons , Liam and Aiden. Natalie is overwhelmed with her responsibilities to her family. Both have guilt issues they've been battling for what seems like forever.I loved their characters as well as the adorable little boys , who steal every scene thy're in. The multitude of supporting characters help pull the story together ans flow smoothly. I loved reading their story and would recommend this book.

Great read about two people trying to move beyond layers of past hurts. The author did a good job of developing the main characters while providing supporting characters that you care about too. As you get swept up in the story you realize this is more than a 'get over broken heart and find love again' story, it is also two people learning more about themselves and the far reaching impact their choices had/have.

The Firefighter’s Twins by Heidi McCahan is a very sweet Christian fiction novel that definitely left me smiling! The characters are well written and very realistic, the plot of the story is engaging, and the messages are timely.

I’m going to be honest here. I struggle to trust. Trust is one of the hardest things for me to do. I struggle to trust God and others. I am MAJOR Type-A. I love to control my surroundings as much as humanly possible. When life gets crazy and chaotic, I tend to clean because in my cleaning I can scrub out what is rotten and dirty, and organize everything the way I think they should be. I can create order out of disorder. There is a moment where Natalie, the heroine of this novel, thinks to herself, “If she was brutally honest, she had put a lot of faith in her own abilities, because God certainly hadn’t cooperated with her plans…So she stopped trusting Him.” WHOA! Was this moment a major mirror moment for me.

Those of you who know me, and those of you who have been reading my blog for some time now, know that my best friend is dealing with a scary, horrible, no good, rotten form of cancer that is so bad it only has a Stage IV. You know that I’ve been desperately praying. Lately, I have been struggling. It seems like my prayers for healing are not working, are not being heard. I’m terrified. The other day I was in my car driving back from a movie date with my best friend. I was struggling hard not to cry. I hate seeing her so frustrated and depressed. Wouldn’t you know it — at that very moment Lauren Daigle’s song Trust In You came on the radio! I burst into tears. I am failing at trusting in God. He isn’t moving this mountain called cancer. WHY?! So because He is not bending to my will, I am struggling. I feel so dumb even writing this. My head totally knows that God has this. God’s got control over my best friend and her situation. But, my heart is hurting and that hurting has put up a wall I MUST take down with God’s help. Natalie slowly comes to realize this too over the course of the novel. She is so focused on herself, what she thinks she finally deserves, and how her changes will positively effect everyone else (so they must be the right choices, right?!) that she becomes myopic. She leaves God out. Her praying becomes stunted. Natalie realizes she has to change her heart…and, I realize that too.

Another topic that comes to the forefront in this novel is that fear parents have in regards to their children. We want so desperately to protect our children from literally everything that we become a little crazy. We stop asking for help because only our way is the right way. We can’t possibly believe the notion that it takes a village to raise our children because the village is filled with crazy people who want to let our children play on a dirty swing set with stranger danger lurking around every corner. Are they insane!? We start to see enemies in everything and everyone. Wash your hands before you even think about looking at our kids, Grandma! Did our daughter just sniffle? Do we need to rush her to the ER? Was that kid mean to our precious child? Do we need to visit the principal and the superintendent? This is exactly how Shay, the hero of The Firefighter’s Twins, behaves in this novel. Watching Shay parent is sometimes hilarious, often annoying, and completely relatable! Again, the issue isn’t really one of fear, but of trust. Our children are created by GOD. He used His two competent hands to perfectly create our children. They aren’t technically ours. They are HIS. As parents, we need to trust in His will for our children. We need to learn to not see danger around every corner, but instead allow our kids to grow up into independent, strong, capable adults who love and trust in God themselves. When we let our fear get the better of us, we are really just hurting our kids. We aren’t actually being the parent they need. What a truly excellent reminder for me as a mother!

So, I guess this novel pulled a lot out of me. I kind of feel like I just spent an hour on God’s counseling couch writing this post. When it came time for me to read this novel, I never expected that I was going to get anything other than a sweet and satisfying story. I got that for sure, but I got so much more. God really spoke to me through Natalie’s and Shay’s struggles. He definitely showed me a few areas I still need to work on! If you are looking for a really fun story with depth that gets you to look inside yourself and see who you really are as a parent and as a child of God then The Firefighter’s Twins is definitely the novel for you.

I received a review copy of this novel in eBook form from the author and Just Read Tours. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

If you enjoy books with a lot going on, The Firefighter’s Twins will not disappoint. And let’s be realistic here, the first time Shay steps into the pages, a single parent of two adorable twin boys, your heart will melt a little for this man.

Heidi McCahan manages to pack the pages of this story full of problems, revelations, adorableness, and romance. From the issues with Natalie’s family, Shay’s job and overprotectiveness of his boys, and the unique settings of the farm, wedding venue, and Habitat-type home, there is plenty to immerse yourself in.

Yet Shay and Natalie do not get lost in all of it. They each have issues they are dealing with (family, work, their smoldering attraction to each other). The decisions (good or bad) they each make affect those around them, sometimes to the extent it almost paralyzes them.

McCahan examines the themes of family, the importance of communication, love, and forgiveness in The Firefighter’s Twins.

And I’m hoping to see some more of these characters in another read from the author.

Adorable toddler alert! These two kiddos steal your heart quickly as we dive into Heidi McCahan's debut Love Inspired novel. The plot is fairly fast paced and keeps you interested and the characters are easy to like. An enjoyable read!

Event planner Natalie McDowell has been pulled in too many directions for awhile now as she tries to juggle her business along with overseeing her family's busy farm. When a dream job opportunity comes knocking at her door, she thinks this could be her answer ... but not everyone is going to agree with that. Especially when she meets a hunky guy and his adorable kids that try to steal her heart!

Firefighter Shay Campbell has been trying to keep his head above water since his wife walked out on him and their twin toddler sons. He'd do anything for those kids, but single parenthood is harder than he ever imagined. He lucks into meeting someone that seems to adore his boys as much as he does ... but she has other things on her plate as well. Can this turn into more than just an infatuation?

I hadn't read a romance novel in a very long time and this one captured my attention from the very beginning! Author, Heidi McCahan, brings you right into the story as if you are really living life alongside Shay Campbell and Natalie McDowell, the main characters. This book takes you through the feelings of loss, grief, joy, empathy, hope, love and ultimately the big one, trust. It's easy to find yourself identifying with one or more of the characters as you root for them. I didn't want this book to end and found myself glued to the story to find out which life path would be taken. An easy read with lots of heart and entertainment.

The firefighters twins

I love books with twins in it and one of the boys has a nut allergy so Shay has to be really cautious. Shay is doing a really good job at being a single father, he really has a lot to handle. Natalie has a lot to deal with too between being conflicted about her job and family. I really could feel her frustration and also her family’s pain in dealing with her dads health. The characters became so real to me. I really enjoyed reading this book. I received an advanced copy of the book from the author.

One of the things that I love about the Love Inspired series is that no matter what book you pick up, you know that it will be clean, sweet, and inspirational. This is a new author to me -- so I was excited to see how it was. First and foremost.... the cover just DRAWS YOU IN!!!! The kids on the cover are the cutest. The characters are so well written. I just loved Natalie and Shay. You can feel their chemistry, no matter how hard they try to notice it. Great story line, moves at the right pace. I am going to have to find more to read from this author.

Let's see, sweet romance, handsome firefighter, single dad of twin boys...what more can I say? I want more books like this! The cover alone is irresistible. Not only did this story have all the elements I adore in a romance, but I also loved the setting of North Carolina. I could just picture the lush landscape and Southern sunsets! Content-wise, this book did not disappoint! As I read of Shay's struggles to manage his two toddler sons, it brought back memories of when my boys were little. The author didn't gloss over the challenges of single parenthood, and many times in reading this, I wanted to step into the book and help out poor Shay! Natalie also had some difficult circumstances, as she pondered over choices that would result in big changes. The chemistry between the characters had you pulling for them throughout the book.

The Firefighter's Twins is a heartwarming, emotional read that will keep you turning the page! Don't miss this one!

For readers looking for a quick, sweet read, look no further than The Firefighter’s Twins by Heidi McCahan. It features a small-town community where firefighter Shay Campbell and wedding planner Natalie McDowell cross one another’s path again and again. Both Shay and Natalie have complicated circumstances in their pasts that cause them to reach for control in their lives, but it’s time for them to learn if they can trust God—and perhaps, open to the possibility of romance, too. Through all the ups and downs of their story, Shay and Natalie prove to be enjoyable characters, ones for whom I couldn’t help rooting, and I liked this delightful, little book. (Plus, it’s hard not to smile while reading as Shay’s two-year-old twins, Liam and Aiden, add an entertaining, adorable element to nearly every scene.) I recommend it to those in need of a fun contemporary romance to read this summer.

It isn't very often that I start out a review with a desire to simply—right away—share how much I enjoyed a book. Today is one of those days. I enjoyed The Firefighter's Twins by Heidi McCahan! I don't dole out five star reviews like candy; there are a few things that I'm looking for when determining how I rate a book (naturally, my opinion is mine alone and is subjective!).

Author Heidi McCahan hit one of those "things" that I look for right away, and I didn't even realize it at first. The first two chapters took off really nicely. They involved me right away, and soon I realized that I was going from chapter to chapter, fully submerged in the story. With three kids in a busy household, yielding to distractions is quite easy for me; when I arrived at chapter five and noticed that I was completely focused on the story, I had a feeling McCahan's story was a winner.

I was right.

Wedding planner Natalie McDowell and firefighter Shay Campbell both have their trust issues. Natalie's boyfriend passed away two years ago, and Shay's wife left him and their twin two-year-old sons. The two find themselves having to work together on a community project, and little by little they learn to trust again.

I was amazed at the attention to detail that author Heidi McCahan poured into The Firefighter's Twins. She beautifully described details of single fatherhood, the idiosyncrasies of two-year-olds (and accurately represented appropriate two-year-old speech, I might add!), the awkwardness of new love, and the frustration of trust issues. The flow of the novel was seamless and fast-paced, and I am thrilled to recommend Heidi McCahan's novels to you. This is an author that you will want to check out. It is clear to me that she puts tremendous effort into writing a memorable story, and I thoroughly look forward to reading her novels.

Reviewed at The Power of Words: https://bit.ly/2LZjsu4

With her debut novel for the Love Inspired line, Heidi McCahan has proved herself to be an author to watch. The Firefighter’s Twins has the sweet romance you would expect, but there’s so much depth and complexity to this story.

Set in the small-town community of Meadow Springs, North Carolina, we meet Shay – a firefighter with scene-stealing twin boys, as the title indicates – and Natalie, an event coordinator on her family’s farm. I loved the creativity of these events and was pulling for Natalie to achieve her dream of being able to devote herself to wedding events at Magnolia Lane barn.

Natalie and Shay have great chemistry and I enjoyed the way their relationship evolved beyond the heartbreaking events in their past. One strength of this story is the realistically-portrayed relationships that drive the narrative … such as those between siblings, parent/young children, and grown children/aging parents. Another strength is that of coming together in an effort to help, as church and community did in building the home for a veteran family in need.

I appreciated how spiritual gems are gently woven into the story. A thought that especially resonated with me is these words of Natalie’s sister, Tisha … “Sometimes you have to trust that God will provide, even if His provision doesn’t look like you think it should.”

Contrary to the way many endings feel rushed, The Firefighter’s Twins comes to a very satisfying conclusion, from the way Natalie and Shay get together in the last chapter, to an epilogue that takes place one year later.

Highly recommended. Within the Love Inspired line of books, 5 stars.

The Firefighter’s Twins by Heidi McCahan

Natalie had already lost a boyfriend to the dangers of firefighting and was determined to never again risk her heart in that way. Yet, she was powerless against the charm of Shay and his adorable twins.

Shay was everything a handsome fireman hero should be. He was also very insecure, having a wife who had left him for her career, and guilt that he held on to from his childhood. His deep love for his boys was precious, but it also had him obsessing over them perhaps a little overmuch.

The twins, Aiden and Liam, were so cute and well written. I always appreciate it when authors do a good job in making the children say and do things that are appropriate for their ages like this. The relationship that developed between the boys and Natalie was realistic.

The Firefighter’s Twins is a fun read with some inspirational elements. It had conflict and soul searching and sweet moments of spark and romance as Shay and Natalie struggled with fighting the sparks between them that threatened to burst into flame.

A contemporary clean romance with little adorable twins and a firefighter daddy?! Win, Win in my book. 😉

I love how Love Inspired books are short but deep reads. This story kept up the pace the way I like it, not too slow, not too fast. Shay and Natalie are the main characters that switch telling the story. I enjoy learning more personal things about the characters before they share it out loud with others. I understood more about the characters personality as their past and present experiences were told.

Natalie is fun, creative, and has been through the loss of a loved one. She doesn’t know if she can handle the risk of having feelings for someone again that she might lose. Shay has gone through a diverse and is responsible for raising 2 year old twin boys. This story is true in telling how young boys act. Believe me. I know. Their mixture of behaviors remind me of my boys at that age.

Heidi McCahan shows us the ups and downs of finding romance in real life situations, not fairy tales. I love the characters and the precious Christian romance! ❤

There are books you read just to get lost in. Not lost like - transport me to another world lost, but lost like "I'm bored and I want to read something but at the same time I don't want to read so I guess I'll read something that's easily forgettable and doesn't require a lot of brain power to read through".
This is one of those books.
I mean absolutely no hate to the writer (even though this will sound very hateful) but it's almost like the publisher let a WASP mom print one of her unrealistic bathtub fantasies.
The drama was created and resolved way to quickly, or it was created just as quickly as it was resolved - or my personal favorite, in places there was supposed to be drama it shone threw lackluster.
The grammar and sentence structure was atrocious as well.
The only reason I read this book is because I wanted to see what this "Christian romance" was all about and I thought the cover art was cute.
I've learned from my mistake.

The Firefighter's Twins by Heidi McCahan. Firefighter Shay Campbell moves back home with his twin two year old boys when his wife left him for a musical career. One of the boys has a peanut allergy. Shay is very protective of the boys. There is a farm just down the road from where Shay lives. He takes the boys there and meets Natalie McDowell who runs the farm and all that goes on there. Natalie is watching the boys one day and turns away at the park to take a phone call for her career. A lady is watching the boys with her two boys and gives them a granola bar with peanuts. Boy has to be rushed to hospital. Shay is agree with Natalie. Natalie decides for sure to move away. Shay has a change of heart doesn't want her to move. A very touching book.

I enjoyed Heidi's latest and the world she created on the farm. I haven't read many books with firefighters, but I liked getting to know a bit more about their world, without having the story get absorbed in details about firefighting. While I did like Natalie and Shay (and the twins!), I think my favorite character is the fire chief. He makes a few brief appearances, but I appreciate how he cares for his men beyond the job.

Overall, it's a lighter read of the quality expected with a Love Inspired author. I hope to get to know some of the other characters better in future stories.

I received a complementary copy of this story. All opinions are honest and my own.

One single dad plus twin toddlers…A formula for her new family? Since his wife left to pursue her dream of becoming a country singer, (fireman) Shay Campbell has focused on work and his twin toddlers Aiden and Liam. But the lovely (Wedding Planner & Family Fun Farm owner) Natalie McDowell is making him rethink that decision. She’s great with his boys, and they adore her. But he can’t go through losing someone again. Pushing her away after Aiden has a peanut allergy attack in her care forces the issue. Will a job offer win Natalie’s heart and have her pursuing dream job out-of-town, or does it belong to Shay and the twins?

This was a pleasant new romance for me to read. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a LIS this much! Shay and Natalie were a great team working hard to build not only a home but also the foundation for their friendship and possibly more. I adored Shay’s twins and remember how hard it is to help your young ones cope with a parent leaving. It isn’t easy but Shay did a fabulous job of being the full time parent. Natalie is working hard and yet finds time to add more to the tiers of plates she juggles, she was impressive and kind, a woman that many can easily love.

A very sweet and clean romance. Shay is a firefighter wth soul custody of twin 18 month old boys. As he struggles as a single patent, he meets Natalie, a caring and kind woman who is drawn to this firefighter and his boys. There are challenges that each are facing and both are afraid of the attraction between them. What results is a sweet contemporary romance with a Christian background. An enjoyable read.

Wonderful story line and great characters. I personally could relate to both Shay and Natalie; single parenting and juggling family business while working full time.
It was heartbreaking how both of their pasts interfered with the present and any relationship.
I haven't dealt with the health issue that was addressed with one of the twins, but I appreciate the awareness the author brings to the situation and the seriousness of it.
Overall, The Firefighter's Twins was a pleasure to read!
