Known for her exotic tattoos, peace sign T-shirts, and master interrogation skills, Scarlett Knight rounds up the crew of Black Rose Investigations for an evening of drinks, but Fiona is nowhere to be found—and nothing keeps Fiona away from an ice-cold beer. Something isn’t right, and following her gut, Scar goes to Fiona’s last known location, which leads her to a creepy librarian rumored to be part of a witches coven, a missing teenager, and a dead body—but no Fiona. Fearing the worst, Scar makes a secret deal in return for Fiona’s location, but can she trust the source?

After a split-second decision cost him his career in the Army Special Forces five years earlier, Luke West accepted a position at Devil’s Den Police Department, only to lose his first case to the interview queen herself, Scar Knight. Luke still catches crap from the guys about it, so when he hears about a missing girl, he’d be damned if he let Scar outshine him again, even if her striking beauty could outshine any woman in town, or the tristate area for that matter.

Scar has forty-eight hours to solve the case of the missing teen and find Fiona before it’s too late, and she’ll do whatever it takes, even if that means putting herself in harm’s way…

2.5 Apathetic stars

Scarlett (Scar) Knight is meant to be having drinks with some of her friends/colleagues from Black Rose Investigations, but one friend/colleague is no where to be found, and isn’t answering any of Scar’s calls or messages. Scar knows something is wrong so she goes in search of her missing friend, she goes to the last known location of Fiona, - the library which blows up just as she gets there. Add in a creepy librarian, a witch’s coven, a missing teen and a dead body a cop (Luke West) who refuses to leave her be, and Scar has her hands full.

When Luke is first introduced in this book, I really, really disliked him, his attitude towards Scar and the reason for it made him seem like a big jerk to me. In the latter half of the read my impression of him did get better, but only a little, his earlier behaviour blemished his character for me.

This story was ok, not bad but not great/not that good. The heroine is meant to be a badass PI, but whilst I liked her the kickass and fierce heroine, I was hoping for didn’t manifest.

It is best to read this series in order, due to one key stand running throughout each book.

Evil Eye is Excellent!

Another wonderful addition to the Black Rose mystery series! We've all heard the metaphor of something snowballing...Well this series just continues to snowball into greatness! Amanda McKinney's writing is just captivating. If you can be on the edge of your seat while reading, then you definitely are when you read each and every book in this series. The character development is phenomenal and the story is simply addictive. I can't wait for the next installment. If that's not the sign of a great series and a terrific writer, well then I don't know what is!

OK so I took away 2 stars due to various reasons.

First of all, the story was just nice. Not good, not bad, just nice. The romance was good too. Just that it got in the way too much, and somehow, I have moved on from cheesy budding romance in this past year.

Secondly, the flaws, there are many. The author seems to be quite amateur with her writing style. A lot of 'what the hell' has been used in this novel that actually ruined the experience for me up to an extent. The romance was of course, quite predictable, the heroine shown as typically badass but with a jelly feet as soon as the tough guy comes in the scene. And then there was so little of the witch, I was hoping she would have some more role in the book but she was actually no where to be found. And then what was the climax all about? I understand readers will have to read the next book to unveil the surprise but 'what the hell?'. It's as if I only read the draft, and not the real book. Then the officers, both the protagonists I mean, how could they simply not look into the obvious clues and find that out laaaterrr? You know that was a turn off.

Anyways, I am glad its a short book, got over quickly. Readers who like quick mysteries should try this one out.

Marden Balik, aka the witch Krestel, is the glue that binds the Black Rose mysteries together. She hasn't made a personal appearance since the first in the series, "Devil's Gold" but is responsible for much of the drama.
This time round the focus is on Scar (Scarlett), yet another of the indistinguishable Knight sisters (she's the only one with multiple tattoos if you ever need to pick her out of an identity parade).
Much of the story can be explained in this short excerpt: "It had been the craziest twenty-four hours of her life, starting out with panic thinking Fiona was burning to death in the library, to now, Officer Luke West telling her that he was crazy about her. And the kicker of it all? She was head-over-heels, weak-in-the-knees crazy for him, too."
There's a linked secondary plot concerning a missing girl - if Scar can find her, Fiona's location will be revealed by Athena's mother.
Finding Athena opens a can of interesting worms but, typically, the author doesn't spend too much time on it.
Like the first three books there is a better book trying to get out, only to be bludgeoned into submission by Amanda McKinney (I suspect that she is a better author than she lets herself be).

Evil Eye is an awesome romantic suspense by Amanda McKinney. I just recently found this author and OMG...it's like an addiction. Soon I'll be caught up on all her series and then turn into one of those readers tapping their foot waiting for the next release. Yes folks, the books are that good. Scarlett is the tattooed Knight sister that excels at questioning people. Luke is a cop for Devil's Den PD and not a fan after Scar showed him up on his first case. Scar and Luke's story is loaded with drama, humor, action, suspense and woo-woo (the scary type and the sexy type too) along with a fantastic cast of characters. I laughed when I finished this book because I thought to myself....did you even blink. I was that wrapped up in the story. Yes, I will read more from Amanda McKinney. as soon as I get todays reviews written it's already waiting on my Kindle. Evil Eye is book 4 of the Black Rose Mystery Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Tattoos, peace signs, meditation and guns!

And that is just Scar!
It is a fine line between love and hate and Luke honestly thought he hated Scarlett, but the more time he spends with her the more confused he is and the deeper he falls. She is strong, fierce, threatening and sassy one minute, then the next she is calm, angelic, soothing and protective. He is attracted to both of these but to find them all in one woman is not just sexy...it blows his mind, messes with his concentration and destroys his control, beautiful to watch unfold.
Another cracking book in the Black Rose series, this is Scar and Luke's book but the plot/story is a continuation that follows on from book three, it's actually a plot that begins in book one, so I suggest you read these books in order to get a complete understanding and the most enjoyment, the whole series is available on Kindle Unlimited.

Scar and Luke

Evil Eye is a fast pace story, this is the last Knight sister to fall. Scarlet aka Scar is the main female lead in Evil Eye. Officer Luke Weston is her leading male, chemistry between them is off the charts. Absolutely loved the banter between these two characters as they find a missing girl and Fiona PI/Roxy's assistant. Well Roxy is laid up with a broken ankle it will be Scar's job to find Fi with the help from a sexy officer who pushes Scar's buttons and gives her the feels. Overall a good addition to the story. Happy Reading 📚

I'm feeling everything you are....

Officer Luke took a beating when PI Scarlett got information from a witness that he should have gotten. When their paths cross again, he starts seeing her as something more than he ever dreamed possible. Scar just wants to find her friend and keep her family safe, but the witch has other plans. Loving this series! Wonderful romance and mystery to you on your toes and wanting more. Super read! Enjoy!!!

Missing Friend

Scarlett and Luke's story begins with the disappearance of Scarletts's admin is missing after the town historical Library burns to the ground. They have 24 hours to find the Librarians daughter and then she will tell them where Fiona is. Adventure, murder, and love are in the mix along with witches. Truly enjoying this series. One book left.

3.5 Stars. There was definitely unexpected chemistry between Scar and Officer Luke, especially since their first encounter was such a disaster.
As with all the books, the curse by Witch Krestel continued. I am not really into that theme, but the plot of two missing girls held my attention. Once again, the author was able to surprise me with the reveal of the murderer.

Evil Eye

Love the novellas. Just wish they would be released sooner. Sometimes it's hard to remember events from previous books. The Sisters and Ace are strong characters.

Its not a 5 maybe 4.5

I didn't read any of the previous books in this series. That may be my fault.
It was an easy three hour read. Some spice, and some suspense.

Another great read. This book in the series centers around Scarlet Knight the ‘hippie’ sister of Black Rose Investigations. When her assistant goes missin Scarlet pulls out all the stops to find her.

A great romantic suspense that could be read as a stand alone book.
