Belejring

15-årige Caspian er under belejring i en tilværelse, hvor der hverken er plads til at vise sårbarhed eller have ambitioner. Og da en helt almindelig skoledag ender i katastrofe, konfronteres Caspian for alvor med livets brutalitet.

Belejring udspiller sig i løbet af én dag og er fortalt i én lang køre af Caspian selv til en navnløs ven i telefonen. En monolog, som fletter sig ind og ud af den skæbnesvangre dag og ind og ud af Caspians liv. Med en far, som forsvandt ud af hans liv, og en nedbrudt mor, som lever i falsk forventning om, at han en dag vender tilbage.

About the author

Hassan Loo Sattarvandi is a Iranian-Swedish author who grew up in Hagalund in Greater Stockholm.

His debut Still (Style) was published in 2008 and depicts the lives of a few young working class men in Hagalund. It received the Swedish Katapultpriset i 2009 for the best debut the previous year.

His second novel Belägring (Siege) came out in 2011.

Kniha nejvíc asi zajímavá formou, kdy vyprávění je monologem hlavního hrdiny, který někomu popisuje po telefonu svůj den. To, co je plusem, se ovšem v některých momentech stává i minusem, protože děj se slívá v jednolitý proud, který jsem se snažila místy proplavat hodně rychle (až měla tendence přeskakovat). Vyprávění funguje stejně jako v opravdové mluvě, Caspian tak přeskakuje sem a tam, od jednoho k druhému, i když ve skutečnosti se vlastně snaží držet lineární nitky příběhu, kdy nás od rána postupně vede až k nočnímu zvratu a cestou se s ním seznámíme podrobněji, s jeho názory, rodinnou situací, školou, kamarády. Občas mě příbeh bavil, občas nudil, mnohokrát jsem si říkala, že podobné téma jsem už četla i daleko lépe zpracované a několikrát mě napadlo, že za čas už si zrovna Caspianův příběh ani pamatovat nebudu. Chybělo mu možná něco, co by razantněji vtáhlo a vrylo se.

This book is worth a read - it's named the "The Catcher in the Rye" of this generation, and I fully agree. Caspian faces a different kind of hopelessness and doom that is what we offer the boys of socially challenged areas today. As a substitute teacher at a school that teaches a lot of these kids, I felt that the book was true to the reality I witness, and also that it helped me understand these kids and what they face, better.
